There is actually something quite offputting about the face of the one on the right, due to the double sets of teeth. It makes it somehow harder to focus your sight on it even irl. It's quite strange.

And here's the current project I'm working on in larger scale sculpts. Haven't had time for any of it since I started 40k again a few months ago, barely even have time for 40k with all the time I spend on work.

Well my girls are already on the fringe of the Galaxy.

They have Bulkier armour because the Cannoness won a tarot game against the Magos that supply their armours. Since he is a massive salty sore loser he sent my Sisters bulkier armour.
Resulting in Inquisitors coming to check the Church Heresy only to be greeted by very piss off Sisters, in armour that makes them look fat.
Some rumours say that unusual amount of Penitent psykers are Interrogators that asked too many questions
>>
So, I'm probably late to the discussion, but knight armies still basically break the game, right?

>You can take an all Lord of War army, it's not just battleforged, but gives you a fair number of command points (especially since each command point goes further when you are playing a small number of units).
>You still need specialist tools to deal with them effectively.
>Those tools seem to be more expensive than last edition.
>They aren't even vulnerable to being surrounded any more.

Why didn't they just roll them into the Adeptus Mechanicus faction?

Also, I guess ion shield now not bothering with facing means that facing is gone entirely.

Were DEs a nid-tier shit in 7 edition? I have never been interested with them but my girlfriends want to start playing 40k with me. I know that Eldars are top-tier and Harlequins are amazing Kill Team faction but actually I know nothing about DE gameplay
>>
>>53328377
To be fair the ion shield is now 5++, while the 3+ of the armour it's not that impossible to get through

not to say we can wound it on 5+ with str5 weapons and it's going to get procedurally worse as the wounds are chipped

I don't know how punitive its stomp is, otherwise it looks very weak to being swarmed in melee

what is the battle canon now

also do we know what ordnance does/if it's still a thing? hopefully the defiler will become unfucked this edition, currently it's useless because ordnance means it can't fire its other weapons which is A+ retarded design. I want to shoot a battle canon, heavy flamer, reaper autocannon, and havoc launcher from the same crab all at once.
>>
>>53328456
Not really, just always liked sculpting, drawing and painting as hobbies. Found my interest in sculpting the first time I bought some GS back in my early teens, then kept sculpting non-warhammer stuff after I quit the warhammer hobby (just got back into 40k ~4 months ago when I heard of the Traitor Legions book)

DEldar in 7th were pretty low tier, and also really focused on sticking dudes in venoma to use as gunboats.

The good news is that Raiders seem better, and depending on how their basic gun works Gunboat tactics might be better than ever. They're also going to be really fast now, though I expect they'll still want transports.

As long as point costs pan out and melee is decent I think they'll find a place.

/40kg/ finally hit some threshold where even the dark mods where forced to take action. Wow. Any who… I have some write faggotry where my chaos lord Beornwulf attacks my homebrew Chapter, but before he lands his troops planet side he activates a demonic construct he devised called The Choir. It basically consists of a large chamber, the walls lined with Thousands of lobotomized psychers. When The Choir is activated they all emit psychic screams into a large mass of Eldar Spirit Stones that act as a focusing iris, which then transfers the psychic energy into a captured hive tyrant. The device is meant to replicate the psychic presence of a hive fleet making the gene stealer cult he planted flip shit and throw the planets defenses into chaos. On a scale of 1 to perpetuals how fluff rape is this?

Are people being retarded about the guns on purpose? Or is this genuine short sightedness? You give up the large blast, which under the best of circumstances could hit 9 or 10 models, and in exchange for MAYBE hitting those 9 or 10 models with a PERFECT scatter, you can now hit one target Fucking 6 times. This turns large blast weapons from 100% anti troop to highly versatile weapons. Blast weapons can now be used effectively vs everything on the field

The GW previews seem to make a big deal about vehicles being more durable, but is that actually the case? Seems like the ones we've seen need fewer lascannon hits to knock out. >>53328310
it's a difficult one anon, cause there rules (especially now that chainswords are a specific weapon with their own rules) are going to affect who I start in for 8th.

If Deathwing get decent rules and aren't just relegated to being terminators in white armour then I may resurrect my old models and maybe will try to get some dark vengeance squads on the cheap, but of course Deathing are Deathwing, not much I can do to make them /my_dudes/

If Fallen/Alpha legion rules are reasonable then I'm keen on picking up some of the 30k boxes and forgeworld stuff and starting up a Fallen themed (possibly chaos) army.

Fluff:
My dudes are a Storm-wing assault company that believes that they were ordered by the Lion to garrison Caliban under Luther's command because there was a very real threat of the Imperium falling to Chaos and that they were among chosen to defend Caliban if the Lion failed at Terra.
Prior to the return of the 1st legion fleets return, intelligence reports were circulated stating that Terra had fallen and that chaos forces intended to invade Caliban using captured 1st legion vessels.
They never discovered the truth, they spent the early battle in reserve under radio silence to avoid detection. By the time they were deployed all hell had broke loose and no-one really knew what they hell was going on.
Before they reached their target [the Strike Cruiser Porksword of Girlyman or something] Their warhawk was pulled into the warp with all hands.

10k years later they get spat out of the warp on a Knight world, along with a bunch of hungry daemons.
The survivors spend three days defending the wreck of their crashed Warhawk from daemons and other things before being discovered by one of the Local knights errant sent to investigate the disturbances up in the mountains

about to run up against character limit.
>>

One is filled with Nurgle Daemons, the other one is the Militarum Tempestus box.

I have all 4 Assassins painted up, and have about a random box of Plaguebearers of Nurgle and a single box of Slaaneshi Daemons that I collected over the past decade for random reasons.

The promo won't last long, I'm really torn between the two forces. Any advice?

Get the Nurgle Daemons. There's a sister game, Age of Sigmar, that uses daemons as well, and it's the same models. Even if you don't like 40k, Daemons make for a decent Age of Sigmar force, so you're hedging your bets while supporting the squads you already have.

Go with nurgle - daemons can be used in both 40k and AoS and they are the most idiot-proof, newbie friendly AoS faction. With two start collecting boxes you have a legal 1000pts army. Death Guard will be a part of new 40k starter set box so you will be able to make a pretty fun universal army

They're making a big deal about EVERYTHING being better. They hyped up the Battle Cannon too and without some special rule to make it better, it's seriously lackluster. Remember that even new-GW is still a company, and whilst I applaud their new approach of community engagement, they still want to sell you stuff. They're hardly going to stand up and say "Well vehicles are a bit flimsier this edition!"

Only dudes I have who would be affected are pretty traditional, focused on the codex, and subscribe heavily to the idea that the Imperium's history and relics are better.

Doubt they'd like a bunch of new shit showing up, even if it's from a Primarch. Probably roll their eyes when the new guys can't fit into the chapter's relic armor sets and have them permanently stuck in the 10th company on technicality.

Maybe I'll have them end up on the far side of the rift, and have them send the new recruits off to fortify terra or help Guilliman or something

I'm not sure what is in the militarum box but I know that the Nurgle Daemons box is an excellent deal on its own. The 3 plague drones are worth 60 bucks alone and you pretty much get everything you could want for those guys.

Makes you wonder if Eldar could get away from Slaanesh by dedicating them to another god. Khorne seems the natural choice, as the guy kicked Slaaneshs ass the first time, and an Eldar sure could collect a lot of skulls. But the again, wouldn't that be just another trap? They still would fall to Chaos, and who knows if Slaanesh won't just snag them from Khorne anyway.

cont.but brief cause I'm already bored of typing

Long story short, they resurrect "The Order" and supply initiates with weapons and armour in so far as they are able to manufacture it. This rubs the Knights and mechanicus up the wrong way because a) Social change as The Order is competing with the knights and b) Non-Mechanicus plebs manufacturing arms.

Cypher Turns up just in time to stop resentment turning into fully fledged conflict and is all like
>hey you're going to get yourselves killed if you carry on like that, Also meet Captain [whatever] he's a rogue trader and he's going to get you off this godforsaken rock before you start a war
My guys join up and leave taking members of the Order (represented as cultists) with them.
Sudden power vacuum coupled with an armed citizenry causes the knight world to fall into civil war and openly rebel against the Imperium
Dark angels investigate and find a whole bunch of Order of Caliban paraphernalia and gear knocking about and eventually shrine comprised the wrecked war-hawk surrounded by trenches and a pavise wall made of the Storm wing boarding shields.

a bit rough around the edges but there's the outline of my guys fluff if I go Fallen

Well, starting with the living psyker device of thousands of living things incited to pain and screaming from their souls turned into a weapon.

Thumbs up! Grimdark, over the top, you've arrived at 40k station.

Focusing all of that massed psychic energy for the purposes of a particular goal in a convoluted way, aces.

Eldar soulstones don't really make sense to trigger a mass nid reaction though. Why not trapped zoanthropes, or actual bits of hive ship brain.

Also, why plant genestealers in the first place? Chaos and nids don't get along, Shadow in the Warp and all that.
>>
>>53329354

>>
So now everything is basically impossible to kill, are we going to basically spend 6 turn having a nice cup of tea, and talking things out?
>>
>>53329403
Well, I guess it works with Ynnead because that's an Eldar-only club, while Khorne is...well, Khorne. and the powers of the god are ever waning and rising, so there's really not much they could do if Slaanesh gets more powerful and just drags their souls back to the Smutthrone. Meanwhile, Ynnead seems to work, and it can only get stronger by getting more Eldar-souls.

They're the evolution of a Xanatite Explorator fleet, who were out of the Imperium's territory when the Horus Heresy broke out. They got shot at for being from a Traitor system, decided fuck it and returned to a cushy system they'd found in their trip, dug in and started terraforming the place with their overly large complement of Magi Biologis/Genetors.

The fleet is still there, dug into a system that would be a fortress by cosmological standards, even before it became a collection of Forge Worlds, gun platforms and energy farms. The Genetors continued their experimentation, slowly developing research paths that were sealed in the Vaults of Moravec for good reason before, combined with some of the Vodian research from their last homeworld, and before too many centuries had passed could be considered the equal of any in the Dark Mechanicum. Strange corrosive bio-weapons, living ships, creatures of the Warp bound screaming to flesh as the Soul Forge did to metal. Occasionally, a rumour would spread of the "Old Mechanicus" beyond the Ghoul Stars, but aside from a few missing ships little was found besides worlds picked clean and poisoned more subtly than the Plaguefather tended to. Inquisitorial attention had been planned, but was dramatically disrupted by the onset of the Thirteenth Black Crusade.

Now, with the onset of the Cicatrix Maladictum, their fleet is rearming for was once again, sensing the onset of a new Ruinstorm. They serve no gods, no masters, but they sense opportunity. The new rifts hid their fleet from the Space Marine chapter guards of the Ghoul Stars, and now they move south towards the path through the Great Rift, bearing weapons not seen for a dozen millennia. The Pale Wasting has returned.

cause the nature of the gene stealer cults make them good at infiltrating every aspect of a society, but the main point is that his chaos cultist already worked hard to infiltrate the chapters serfs and worked with the local chaos sorcerer to open up a warp portal to actually get his space hulk to the planet. his cultist send messages to the inquisition saying that the chapter has fallen to chaos and they're planning to open up a portal to flood the world with daemons. these encrypted messages are decoded far to late.

Cause if a space marine ever does something morally dubious, such as, oh, say, declaring himself the new emperor, there would never be tremendous backlash from loyalists.

All those high lords, those warrants of trades, those planetary governers and officials inside the inquisition and the echlesiarchy, they would bear no further scrutiny. They would not twist under the thumb of the new emperor, why, his rule should not chaff them one bit, now will it?

That just couldn't happen in the 40k universe.

they really aren't.

In fact, you might say they are the main reason the Imperium continues to function the way it has. By supporting the Imperium blindly and allowing it to continue to function the way it has, they are the most ardent supporters of fascism in the 40k universe.

They are the reason the system is broken, because instead of directing their efforts at Terra, they focus them on outward threats.

ITS NOT FAIR
>>
>>53330054
The problem with knights is generally when you field a whole army of them. They aren't overpowered per se, it's being able to field an entire army which can only be killed with specialist weapons which causes issues.

So long as no more than about half your points are in vehicles / other stuff which is near immune to small arms it should be fine.

Of course, your local meta may have a different opinion and knights are an easy target to point at for whiners who like to blame their losses on game balance issues.
>>
>>53330226
>they focus on outward threats
No fucking shit.
They're super SOLDIERS, not super politicians.

When the thing is climbing in through their window and the legions of hell are crawling out of a trap door in the basement the last thing they have on their minds is to lecture the high lords on "fascism"

>Peasant Farmer says "Fuck the Imperium."
>No one cares cause they're having cool space battles.
>>
>>53330279
Considering Agriworlds are actually a pretty sweet deal? Yeah, that's less likely.

Agriworlds don't have peasant farmers. That's for feudal worlds. Agriworlds have small populations that get to use pretty advanced farming machines, live somewhere lush, and generally not have to do backbreaking labor or get conscripted, since machines do most of the work and their tithe is paid in food.
>>
>>53330261
And they did.
Back when GW first started, you think they went unopposed? You think parents didn't flip their shit? You think people didn't think of us the same way they used to view heavy metal and satanists?
>>
>>53330115
if you want a knight just get one, fuck what people say. knights are cool, who doesn't actually like them as a concept/model?

it's just obnoxious when people abuse them. know what kind of game you are playing and you will be fine. just don't do shit like field it in a 500 point casual game against a new player.
>>
>>53330279
They should have a problem with it. The enemy is at the gates. If your country was being invaded and your government decided to conscript you or make you manufacture munitions that'd be understandable. The troublemakers who want to talk about unrealistic utopias need to be put down, there is no time to negotiate wages when Chaos could destroy all of humankind.
>>
>>53330180
The nice thing about GW is, they don't give a shit what people think. They don't care about their customers' opinions, never mind some middle-class american pearl-clutcher.

No, but most stuff which used to ID marines will do multiple wounds now. Battlecannons do D3 for example, so every failed save has a 2/3 chance of killing a primarine.
>>
Sup /tg/, I decided to start Ultramarines for 8E. You might of seen me mention my shit before but, anyways, here's the situation.

I bought the collector's box, some scouts, and have pieced together decade+ worth of odds and ends to come up with the following...

1x Terminator Captain
1x Terminator Chaplain (the nice old metal one, found him in a shoe box!)
50x Terminators, approximately, enough bits for nearly any build
60x Marines of varying sorts, enough to make squads out of but not devs
5x Scouts
1x Rhino
1x Whirlwind from 2E

I plan to kit the scouts out with sniper rifles given the new edition's IC rule set likely meaning sniping characters is a thing....

That said: How should I build out things, do you think? Or should I wait for full 8E to drop before I start modelling... I have a limited window of time, and by the time they drop 8E I may not have long enough to get done before Fall.

Any ideas on what do?

When you start exploring the boundries of your world, you will find there is a certain point past which you can not travel. I saw someone suggest in a previous thread that they'd each be a sort of pool of 5 wounds that had a chance to replenish each turn.

So, for example, you'd have a Titan with 40 wounds or whatever, and then 2 Void Shields. If you shot it with a bunch of Lascannons, you'd need to essentially kill two 5 wound models before actually starting to damage the titan itself. Then those might come back on later turns on a 5+ or something, and also heal to their full 5 at the start without a roll to make them resistant to small arms.

That might be a little extreme, but I could see that sort of system working out.

Still, I do think a similar system could work for the terrain as well. Make it so that any unit shooting something under its radius has to target a T 10 5 wound blob with a 4++ invuln save or something.

You don't have to die to live under Tyranny. In fact, you're probably much safer in a Dictatorship living under an Empire.

Republics are in a constant state of turmoil. We trade some small measure of peace for our freedoms, and everyone knows that.

Consider a book called "the Science of Making Friends" by Elizabeth Laugeson.
It provides proven and effective methods of training social skills, heavily researched and verified at UCLA.
Hell, I know the author through work stuff and if you asked her, she might send you a free copy.

If you're already involved in an IRL social group, such as a wargaming group, that's a good start already.

If you need to know anything else, what you describe is within myarea of expertise.

What I think bothers me most about 40k, is that there are NO democracies, NO republics, NO popular representation of any kind amongst ANY of the factions.

not in 40k proper, but he RPG stuff talks about different systems on different kinds of worlds. They pretty much all have a planetary governor but beyond that the worlds themselves are pretty independent. The Imperium is largely disinterested so long as the Tithes continue to flow

Worlds can run themselves however in the Imperium so long as they pay their tithe.

It could also be that a decentralised system of government like democracy is completely unsuitable for the distances involved in an inter-system state.

It's just to inefficient on that scale, especially in times of crisis, which is all the time in the 41st Millennium.

I could see Chaos cults in general having democracies, however twisted they might end up being.

A Tzeentch republic in particular could get crazy. Really short term limits, constant campaigning, constant corruption scandals, and backroom dealings.

>warning label against facism
1. they aren't fascist fascism a vague term for a total war, socialist state.
The empire is a theocratic oligarchy, it's just an unenlightened one like every other government pre-1800s Europe.
>he thinks there are so many people in the mainstream that they would actually be offended by seeing an authoritarian society
you need to get out of the bay area and live among the normal people.
>>
>>53331243
>they aren't fascist fascism a vague term for a total war, socialist state.
Don't tell that to Mussolini.
Fascism is SPIRITUAL!
>>
>>53331220
Well, the usual method is to run them alongside the other toys that Guard get. There isn't really a good way to fix their range, since the best they can do there is a Command Squad with Hot-shot Volley guns for a mini firebase.

Tanks, artillery, and long range firepower would be the best inclusion for them I'd say. Then the focus of the Scions is to drop in and blast away with their shorter range guns.

Not sure how that'll work out in 8e though, since deep-striking seems to have a 9 inch minimum now, and Scions really want to get closer than that to their targets for proper alpha strikes.

Something you could also consider would be running Imperial Guard Veterans. Can't deep strike, but they're generally more versatile. Mixing the two could offer some good options.

He had a weird public private merger.
it was a bastard form of socialism.

but that's besides the point

>>
>>53331321
How short are they in Brazil? Because I was talking like, once a year minimum, with the potential for another vote to be called at any time by popular demand.
>>
>>53331278
Hmm, I see.
That's rough.

What army would you recommend for elite normal humans? Apart from MT.
>>
>>53331396
Sisters of Battle are probably the most elite you could get, but that suffers from it's own host of issues with models and stuff.

Imperial Assassins are pretty badass and elite, though not really normal.

Inquisitors might be more your speed, since they can have pretty tricked-out retinues, though again, models are difficult there.

I'd probably suggest just waiting for 8th to settle, since while right now Scions aren't in a great place, they might get better.
>>
>>53331364
You are absolutely right.
It's just that Mussolini wouldn't see it that way.
What he claimed it to be and what it was differed significantly.

From the very beginning of the Doctrine of Fascism:
"Thus many of the practical expressions of Fascism such as party organization, system of education, and discipline can only be understood when considered in relation to its general attitude toward life. A spiritual attitude (3). Fascism sees in the world not only those superficial, material aspects in which man appears as an individual, standing by himself, self-centered, subject to natural law, which instinctively urges him toward a life of selfish momentary pleasure; it sees not only the individual but the nation and the country; individuals and generations bound together by a moral law, with common traditions and a mission which suppressing the instinct for life closed in a brief circle of pleasure, builds up a higher life, founded on duty, a life free from the limitations of time and space, in which the individual, by self-sacrifice, the renunciation of self-interest, by death itself, can achieve that purely spiritual existence in which his value as a man consists.
The conception is therefore a spiritual one, arising from the general reaction of the century against the materialistic positivism of the XIXth century. Anti-positivistic but positive; neither skeptical nor agnostic; neither pessimistic nor supinely optimistic as are, generally speaking, the doctrines (all negative) which place the center of life outside man; whereas, by the exercise of his free will, man can and must create his own world."

Just did a tally of assembled / salvage / loose bits / sprues....

Terminators total 31:
8x Hammers & Shields assembled and ready to go
1x Metal Chaplain
1x Captain Severus Agemman
21x mix of painted/half finished/bits thrown about
Now, I'm usually a heretic guardsman and don't bother with marines that are loyal. Such a gathering of 1st Company Terminators constitutes a significant gathering of force, fluff wise, right? Thus it makes sense Agemman would be present for 1/3rd of his Company? Especially when I throw in Venerable Dread & some Stern Guard (waiting to see what rules are before I buy new shit like that.)

Fluff-Wise would it be a reasonable force composition for:
- 31 1st Company Terminators + Dread
- 36 2nd Company Marines + Rhino
- 13 8th Company Bikers
- 5 10th Company Scouts

Or what could I make? What do I need? Land Raiders? Etc.

Would 2nd Company use Drop Pods at all or is that going to be 3rd exclusively?

>trying to fluffy my list

Dont get us wrong, tempestus are good at what they do, they just need help with heavy lifting like any guard infantry. Running a scions platoon as the main drive of your infantry in a guard army is completely fine.

They also look mean as fuck in the new edition with no scatter deep strikes and AP-2 across the board
