This, quick, lethal and unforgiving. Friday Night Firenight has its flaws but can be mostly fixed with a few house rules.

get some other people to play the enemies and take everybody to lazer tag

Savage Worlds. Say what you want about it, but it does shooting well.

Seconding this. FFF was specifically designed to be as "realistic" as possible. IE, if you get hit you are pretty well and fucked if it does anything more than graze you.
The main issue the system has is that armor has some weird quirks to it and it has a LOT of bookkeeping. It's not terribly complicated, just a lot to keep track of.

Toon?

>shotguns get +2 to hit which is literally equivalent to a +8 in the d20 system
>three-round burst also gives +2 to hit as well as +2 damage
>M1 Garand does LESS damage than an AK-47. Same with G3, even though both fire more powerful cartridges
>all guns have the same recoil
>2500 dollars for ammo that can literally soak a .50 cal shot consistently
Yeah no.

These are the right answer. Either GURPS or FNFF. I prefer GURPS personally but FNFF is an excellent little game. I've considered adapting it for my own purposes.
D6 Adventure using the wound damage system.

Throwing my vote in for GURPS. Plenty of ways to do plenty of styles of firefights, all of them great fun.
