What would you wager in a high stakes sabacc game?

Does anyone else use Tabletop Sim for playing X-Wing/Armada/Imp.Ass./Rebellion?
I feel like nobody actually plays Armada but me.

While bounty hunter droids are fairly common, how much leeway are they given to do their tasks? Is it just a matter of checking their guild membership and letting them on their way?
>>

I don't, but my friends who went to Worlds for Imperial Assault said they used a simulator (I think Vassal) to get practice games in.

Vassal's always been more trouble than it's worth for me. At least it was whenever I tried using it for 40k.

Well, my friends wanted to get a feel for what people were playing outside our local meta -- and what worked and what didn't -- before Worlds. It went pretty well for them. Both made top 16.

TTS I only use to play with friends who've moved away.

Vassal is great for experimenting and playing with lots of really good players.

Anybody have storage suggestions for X-wing? My current collection is getting too big for my Plano and I want room for Large ships.
>>
What are some good 2-3 person starships that don't necessarily have a ton of cargo space? Basically a nice non-freighter ship that would be suitable for a party to cavort around the galaxy in.
Ideally one with a nice gimmick to make up for the lack of cargo space.
>>
>>53287541
Make one up.
>>
>>53287111
How many ships are we talking?
>>
>>53287541
What sort of hull size, maximum cargo load, and price range are you looking for? If it's starfighters, the BTL-S3 Y-wing and B-Wing E2 can carry 2 people right off the bat, while the ARC-170 can load 3. Z-95s have also been modified in Legends to carry 2 people. YT freighters can also be modified to have their cargo holds replaced with other stuff--the Wook lists YT-1300 cargo capacity ranging from 25-100 metric tons, presumably depending on aftermarket modifications.
>>
>>53287541

Make one up - better yet, draw up a deckplan.

Better still, let your players have some input into the starship design process - that way, they'll feel even more connected to it, like its an extra party character which they all worked on together.
>>
>>53287541
Patrol and scout ships tend to be like that
Generally have decent sensors, bit more firepower

I've got a touch of mental block this morning, brainstorming new ideas for content.

What would people think if I did a video showing off some of my favorite X-wing repaints from across the web? (credit given to the painters of course).

I've got another list-breakdown video planned, but I already did one of those this week and don't want to get so repetitive with the type of content I'm putting out there all at once.
>>
>>53279643
I should have not read this on the way to work.
>>
>>53287541
Y-wing, refitted Hwk-290, Z-10 scout ship.
>nice gimmick
couriers are usually fast and nimble, when they're not made with blockade running in mind.

>>53288325
Book of Judgement for Dark Heresy had a collection of law. It fits a federal system very well.
Remplace summary execution by forced labour and it should be adequate for Star Wars.
>>
>>53288566
Yeah bro, repaints are a great idea. Kind of fishing for content, but it can make an interesting vid.
>>
>>53288936
Yeah, I've seen some popular videogame channels do similar vids about fan art and stuff like that. Figure it's nice and cheap content for a slow news period.
>>
>>53288566

Repaints are fun.

You could also do some more game videos, just showing like actual matches. TTS would be super easy to record for that, but tabletop would be cool too.

You could do stuff like how to build an effective rebel team at different point levels
How to make 'canon' squads work, which for the rebels is actually hard since the Xwing is pretty underpowered at this point
>>
>>53288956
Its honestly a better solution then a lot of other filler or repeat content.
Store champs season started and wave XI is soon so you shouldn't have to fill much more.

>>53289078
I really like the idea of showing matches. Even highlight reals with key decisions where you explain the viable options and maybe why they picked the choice they did.

It protects them well enough.
>>

Also, was anyone else getting posting errors just now?

I have a couple of questions for the veteran Imperial Assault players in this thread.
I'm a noobie and I still don't know if I'm playing the Campaign mode correctly.

I know that in the box it says the game is for 2-5 players. 4 Rebels and 1 player as the Empire.

Each Rebel hero has 1 activation token, ok... what is the corect way to handle a day when you have 5 or even 6 Rebel Players?

Allowing them to activate all their Heroes every tunt? or just stick to the 4 activation Tokens and let them manage that resource?

Thank you for your help.
>>
>>53292128
You alternate activations and the Rebel side has 4 activation tokens. Normally, each character gets 1. If you have 3, the 4th token is a floater that gets passed each turn so 1 character can activate twice. If you have 2, each character activatea twice per turn.

The game isn't designed for 5 or more Rebels, so you're gonna have to wing it there.

What woyld it take to not only make a come wars LAAT space capable, but stick a hyperdrive on it?
>>
>>53298386
They can do space stock if you keep the doors closed, and if you use the majority of the cargo space up, I think you could fit a small shitty hyperdrive and larger reactor in.

>>53298386
'Early LAAT were in-atmosphere-only vehicles, requiring cruisers to land somewhere on the planet in order to launch. Although, with their range, it was common practice for cruisers to dip into the atmosphere, let the LAAT fly to the target zone, and be gone before combat even started. Later versions allowed it to fly through space and actually be used for boarding in ship-to-ship battles.'
-Wookiepedia article on LAATs.

As for a Hyperdrive, I don't see why you'd even bother. It would take up a lot of space, which is pretty bad considering the LAATs purpose is literally to be an assault transport. Max troops and support equipment. And, what you could fit in would be pretty weak. Just get a larger carrier ship that can contain a LAAT, or even multiple.

Some normal harness-seat set up should work just fine, but the troops are gonna need spacesuits and jetpacks.
>>
>>53298949
Actually, the troops would need to be protected during hyperspace. So just have basically the same sliding door system but air-pressurized, or something.
>>
>>53298949
>but the troops are gonna need spacesuits and jetpacks.

They actually wouldnt - magcon fields are a thing.
Hell, in old canon, Rebel pilot suits had a basic magcon field they could project which would keep them going for a good while.

Tried to post this yesterday, but I guess the tubes were clogged. Would any Imperial Assault players care to give their thoughts on my newest squad?

With 7 figures capable of making 3-dice (or even 4-dice, in the case of BT-1) attacks, it should have plenty of punch to deal with even the toughest enemies. It also has pretty tough figures of its own, and Zillo Technique should make their health go even further -- as long as I remember to use it.

It works rather well. Terro and the Jets do lots of damage, a good chunk of unavoidable damage at that, and the whole list is reasonably tough and quick. I only went 2-3, but a few decisions/cards/dice going differently and I could have gone 3-2, 4-1, or 1-4

I don't think anyone's ever really quite figured out what combat engineers/sappers/pioneers do in games.
They sort of figure out what some of the things they do, forget a whole lot of other things and sometimes they just get it all fucking wrong.

Does anybody know the specifics of FFG's contract concerning the Star Wars license? Is there any chance they'll lose the rights like they did with 40k?
>>
>>53310442
>Is there any chance they'll lose the rights like they did with 40k?
It's possible but I thought they had a pretty good relationship with the story group, up to and including FFG material being put in other SW products (like the raider corvette in battlefront and FFG writing the species info for the Kyuzo and Kallerans)
>>

So, /swg/, I'm in the process of putting all the TIE from WEG into EotE/AoR. There are a few inconsistencies.
Which solution do you prefer:
>try to make it all fit with the existing FFG profiles
>redo most of the FFG profiles to have a coherent line of ships
>>
>>53310442

I would assume there's some time elements involved, like how EA has an exclusive 10 year contract, so it's possible LFL could choose not to renew when the time is up but this would be unlikely as I think X-Wing is the most popular minis game in the world right now (in terms of sales) - which is probably why GW pulled their relationship with FFG.
>>
>>53310442
From what I understood when the news broke, GW pulled out of the deal with FFG due to the latter announcing the Runewars minis game, since it was seen as a direct competitor to Age of Sigmar and maybe 40k.

The only way I see FFG losing the license is if Disney decided to start publishing those sorts of products themselves, and that's pretty fucking unlikely. The contract may run out, but I would imagine Asmodee (FFG's parent company) is greedy enough to do an EA/NFL type deal to ensure they still get SW.
>>
My GM offered me to be a Gray Jedi via Holocron. He said he will let me use dark side pip without any penalties in some circumstances (my guess if i roll FR2 and get 1 dark and 1 light - i can use both). He said i should control my emotions and be in "balance. And here is the trick. There is a mandalore bounty hunter who I, as a player, think will turn me once i use my force powers, when he is near (move for example). What to do? How do i handle this situation?
>>
>>53310733
Dark side is mechanically shitty and I'm wary of homebrew when there's an alternate official option, so I would just become a regular Force sensitive.
Anyways, using the Force does mark you, so try to keep some plausible deniability if possible.
>>
Any advice for dealing wtih bind? I have a jedi in my force and destiny party who's hyper specializing in it and its just shutting down any encounter that features either an enemy that is even slightly dangerous.
It's not a big deal when the fight is, say, a squad of soldiers, but this does mean if theres going to be any kind of serious fight with just one or two guys this player can just lock them down pretty completely.
I know you can resist force powers with discipline (or other skills as required) but it's very rare that an enemy will have a higher discipline than this jedi, as he's cranked it so that his powers are very hard to resist.

I don't want to make his powers useless of course, he invested several points to do this, its just at the moment he's trivializing about 2/3ds of the fights that are supposed to be a challenge.
>>
>>53310819
It's not that shitty. Your force powers are more consistent. 7/12 chance per dice, instead of 5/12 for light side. Same average number of pips for both (0.66667)

>>
>>53310887
A big part of increasing the difficulty is to change the environment. He might be able to lock down an enemy in an empty warehouse, but what if the fight happens in a shot-to-shit spaceship hurtling down from orbit while the alarms are blaring in his ears and the nearby console is on fire and he has to resist the pull of a hull breach on the other end of the cabin?

Hey I have a question about EotE, if anyone could help me out with this.

In Special modifications under the Droid Tech spec tree, what is the mechanical difference between Speaks Binary and Improved Speaks Binary? I honestly can't puzzle it out.
>>
>>53315249

From a quick glance, Speak Binary says it grants the droid a boost die.

Improved says that the droid *grants* a boost.
>>
>>53315283
So does that mean that if that droid helped me craft something it would grant 2 boost die?
>>
>>53315430

Binary seems to grant the droid, whilst improved the droid seems to grant.
I think the way it works is that when you have Binary, you can grant the droid a boost die - so if it's trying to do something, then it gets boosts.
But Improved means that if its helping someone else do something, they get a boost on the roll?

I think?
It's also early and I might be going full retard, but thats what it's implying to me at least.

Vino comes across in conversation as level-headed, reasonable, and even genial, as long as one hasn't crossed him, another rarity for Hutts. It's a facade, of course. Those who cross him or fail to pay his loans back tend to take sudden walks out of airlocks. Vino's ultimate ambition is to become head of his kadijic and own his own shipyard over Nar Shadaa.

He's used the limited resources available to him to strong-arm his way into control of an Old Republic era refueling station in an asteroid belt, which he uses as a smuggling station, chop shop, and shipyard. Stolen parts, illegal goods, and pirate-claimed ships filter into and through his home station, and Vino takes his percent from every bit of it. The cash-strapped can make a deal with him to buy a ship with a sketchy history for a sweetheart rate and a generous loan that can be paid in fuel, ship parts, or other ships. It's just a pity that many of those contracts contain hidden clauses to extend the loan nearly indefinitely...

Hey /swg/. Figured this is the best place to ask. Once my group's 5e campaign is over in a month or so it will be my turn to DM and people are expressing interest in a Star Wars game.

I love Star Wars and have consumed a lot of the EU content, but know practically nothing about the tabletop systems. Could I get a quick rundown? Basically down with any time period.

>WEG
Oldest version, focused on using d6s to determine a skill check. I've found it the easiest to teach and work with, and its got a ton of material connected to it.
>D20
DnD for star wars. Got its good sides and its bad, I remember some of its source books focusing on areas the WEG system never got to cover like the prequels and some of the EU that came after it. If you like DnD you'll like this I think, though its the system I'm least experienced with.
>FFG
D8 system where you use custom dice designed to help a GM tell a story. Very star wars feeling, where you can fail but still have a triumph or advantage gained, or succeed but all the problems aren't solved because a despair was rolled, adding new problems. Its also the system that's still in print, and helps encourage players more with duty/morality/obligation. Not especially hard to teach but the custom dice throw people off sometimes.

can someone clear up to me how the clone trooper felt about order 66? in the movies and bf2 they seem to rather dislike the jedi, but the clone wars series shows them needing to be forced to obey, and liking the jedi. is this a case of the new canon overwriting older canin, including aspects of the third prequel, or is it more dependent on which clone trooper or regiment?
>>
>>53320637
No, TCW was a plain retcon of the "old" Order 66.
Before that, as seen in Battlefront 2 and Republic Commando, they were just soliders obeying an order from a higher authority. Some were more reluctant than others to do it, but it was just a simple command.

Now TCW introduced the concept of the biochip, and Order 66 was like some kind of mind control to override any form of attachment to their jedi generals.

>Our only hope was Aayla Secura, our Jedi commander. Without her iron will, none of us would have come out of that mess with our sanity, or our lives. When her death came, I hope it was quick. She earned that much.
>When the 501st was finally rotated out of Felucia, Aayla Secura made a point of seeing us off personally, calling us the bravest soldiers she had ever seen. It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eye.
>>

Republic Commando's ending also suggest that the Deltas could straight up murder Yoda without being under the effect on the biochip
>>
>>53320902
i didnt really see any reference to biochips in republic commando or bf2. have to say i like the inclusion though since i can see clones as good people now, and relationships between jedi and clones seem more realistic now
>>
>>53320960
>i didnt really see any reference to biochips in republic commando or bf2
That's because the biochips were made up by the TCW writers to make Order 66 more plausible with how they showed the clones, as having distinct personalities and respect for the Jedi.

It also makes it that much more of a tragedy. The clones are learning to be unique people with their own thoughts and actions, and get that taken away from them.

Also, I wouldn't exactly say that the clones were unfriendly to the Jedi in the films. We didn't really see them that much, except in situations where they're actually fighting - so of course they'd be all business, that's what they're there to do.
>>
>>53320960
I think he meant that Delta team would have murdered Yoda if given the order, even without chips, due to him ordering the team to abandon Sev.

I don't like the biochip; it's a cop out.
>The child soldiers bred for war by a sith lord? Totally not evil.
>The regular joes that replaced them a couple years later? Absolutely evil, and follow orders better.
Kaminoans are shit at training, apparently.
It adds nothing of value to the story, and undermines several themes by saying that soldiers never follow bad orders unless they're mind-controlled.
>>
>>53313144

>the pilot
Oh god we're all gonna die.
Crew card though...
>>
>>53321073
i take your point, but order 66 isnt really a good example of soldiers following bad orders. its pretty odd that they would fight with jedi through this hellish campaign watching each others backs, then suddenly shoot your commander on the orders of the politcian who had you created just to go through hell. if you want clones following bad orders, i would beleive a jedi going sith and taking his unit with him, getting excellent results because genocide becomes an option for that unit, until anakin and rex have to deal with them. it could also be used to show on a micro level how war can turn the most dedicated jedi to the dark side, which i think is an overarching theme of the clone wars

Imo it's worse because in the first episode of the series proper, the clones are all "we're just meant to be expendable anyways" but Yoda's like "Nah man don't beat yourselves up you're people too."

Also what the biochip does to Fives in s6 was crazy. I loved that whole arc.

Well, to some extent they're kind of 'sensible' in a really cold, clinical kind of way that you'd have an inhibitor chip of some sort for those 'just in case' moments.
Basically the clones are humans capable of choice, making decisions and behaving independently, that's sort of why they're good. But they have no:
>Cultural attachments
>Very little moral coaching
>No choice in their job

There was some esprit de corps cultured in their environment, but you drop them onto the nearest shithole to fight and protect the local space boogas being oppressed by droids, there's not a huge motivation to do it unless they really have some compulsion to actually fight. In reality they'd do that kind of job where its a fucking garbage job with shit pay, high chance of death/injury... we'll be out the back shirking and do as little as possible!
>Didn't really want to come here, don't fucking care about the boogas, droids are hard-gay, this job sucks, my feet hurt and now some fucking genius space wizard cunt has made a teenage girl with a light bat our 'commander'

Fuck that!
You would literally need that proverbial gun to the head, just not an obvious one.
>>
>>53322633
clearly you know nothing about how much islanders like to fight. also janissaries were trained from birth as soldiers and they did alright
>>
>>53322633
>droids are hard-gay

Thanks for the keks, Anon
>>
>>53322633
I think you underestimate what a good old fashioned brainwashing is able to achieve (or simply defending the values of the Republic; like people did in almost every war known to mankind). Not to mention that stormtroopers face the same things without being indoctinated from birth and don't fold.
>>
>>53322760
Lots of people like to fight, Islanders, Slavs, Africans, Arabs... me! But on a larger scale of a war, its really not so much about fighting, but winning that war as expediently as possible.
Janissaries where fraught with problems, culminating in the "Auspicious Incident" and then the Russians went in and beat the the crap out of the Ottomans for a while. That kind of scenario like the Ottomans faced, is essentially why the clones would need a last-resort kind of device just in case of mutiny or deciding that this fight wasn't theirs any more.
>>
>>53322885
Conditioning, esprit de corps, motivation and all that has a certain life span.
You can train people to keep busting through barriers of hunger, thirst, pain and all that, but after a while everyone has a breaking point. Some are much higher than others and willing to endure more hardship than anyone else would, after all. Someone willing to fight for their home and family will generally endure a lot more than their opposition, simply because they have their cultural and emotional ties to that place and people.
All the poor old fucking clone really has is his unit.
>>
>>53323043
Are you saying that their education didn't include courses about "the reasons why the Republic (and the chancellor) is good, the CIS is evil, and all traitors must be elimitated" at a level that would make North Korea jealous?
It's a setting with COMPNOR SAGroups. Having some billion kids that you can train for war from birth with no external influences is like a dream come true for someone like Palpatine. And if he managed to slip something like Order 66 (or control chips) in, you can be sure he put the loyalty-o-meter up to eleven.
The clones should be more indoctrinated than young pioneers on steroids.
>>
>>53323158
Oh its cranked up to 11 for sure in their indoctrination, but like I said, its got a life span and for the most part it does the job by itself.
Like the Clone on Felucia who lost all of his unit, realised there really wasn't anyone to fight for any more and went to to snuggle with a twilek. On a larger scale, that's a fairly good success rate really, but its something they would need to culture and instil into troops as they go, otherwise they'd need those contingency orders if shit fell off the rails.

Stormtroopers and SAG are something we've not really been given a lot of info on how they're indoctrinated. We've got some, but not a lot of real specifics that I can think of off the top of my head right now.
I guess in a pinch if you didn't mind offending a lot of people- WW2 Japan and their willingness to fight for their Emperor until death might be a good place to start.
>>
>>53314908
ESB. Lando uses Lobots implants to quietly arrange an ambush to free himself, Chewie, and Leia.

Rogue One. Ignoring Saws ambush since they're more dubious "good guys", the start of the battle on Scarif was a rebel ambush.

Heck, even in ANH when Han and co. smuggled themselves aboard the Death Star, they ambushed first the scanning team, then the scanning team guard for their stormtrooper outfits.

Also, RotJ against Jabba was an ambush. Really, you're hard pressed to show where ambushes are shown as evil in Star Wars.

Have something of a shadow war maybe?

>Large Rebel force in one area
>Large Imperial force in the other area
>On a very sensitive, highly important pro-Imperial world

Trick there is the rebels must quietly sabotage as much Imperial stuff as they can, without blowing their cover because they'll get discovered and horrendously murdered by the local population. The Imperials have to cover up and obfuscate as much rebel activity as they can because if they don't, the Empire will look incredibly bad for actually having a Rebel force in one of their most sensitive areas.
That sort of minimises the amount of military force one side can bring to bear on the other which would otherwise end up an insane shooting match

Do what I did with Arda.

Give them several campaigns to develop emotion and attachment to the base and characters. Maybe add in a few characters not relevant to the plot.

Then you send in an absolute massacre, killing allies not relevant to the plot left and right and the players could choose to save them, or help defend the base. If they choose defend the base enough, most of the Rebels manage to get off world and continue the story. If not, only significant members manage to escape.
