>>

I'm more disappointed about no salamanders, but in my opinion, the unit list is really good. I was worried we weren't getting the Old Blood, but it seems we are.
>>
>>53270228
Yeah I can see them adding the remaining units in the inevitable DLC with the Skink Oracle as a new Lord
>>
How do conflicts in the Empire works? Got a party wanting to be mercenaries for an upcoming game during the Age of Three emperors
>>
>>53269856
Does it ever annoy anyone else when they include units without shields, that are clearly inferior and will be skipped over? Just adds unnecessary padding to the roster.
>>
>>53270760
Cost less in MP and Campaign and have different roles such as missile fodder and tarpits
>>
>>53270803
But units with shields are better at both roles, and sometimes the cost difference is as little as a hundred gold.
>>
>>53270742

Check out what Mordheim fluff you can.

As i recall the basis of that game was set in a succession schism between Marienburg, Reikland and Middenheim. Though now i think about it it's probably pretty irrelevant to the actual game so probably little info on that stuff.
>>
>>53270853
Different builds tho

Some builds call for a weak ass frontline while you send hulked out Cav or Skirmishers or a fully upgraded caster lord in

That 100 gold builds up and is usually better spent on Chevrons or Items
>>
>>53270853
a hundred gold means you can buy more xp on your actual heavy units.

What are the chances of gw releasing new beastmen minis? I feel like they're the least popular Warhammer army but I just don't want them to stop selling the current set half way through my army build.

I wouldn't worry, I think the range will now stay stable for the next few years.

Am I correct in assuming that beastmen are the least popular army? Mwg YouTube channel has 200 battle reports for 8th and only one beastmen army bat rep
>>
>>53272917

Yeah, there was a poll a few years ago that ranked all the armies and I think Beastmen were 2nd off bottom behind Tomb Kings.
>>
>>53272917
>>53272969

To be brutally honest, I was always of the opinion that Chaos should have stayed as a common books, ie. demons, mortals and mutants all in one book. GW seem to be going back to this and I think beastmen will therefore always have a place in the future, it's honestly better for them this way, it means they won't get left behind and many of the monsters are interchangeable anyway.
>>
>>53272917
I love that beastmen are in the game to fight against, and they'll wreck my shit if I'm not fast enough to catch them when they do pop up. I just never ever play them.

Might give them a few goes on multiplayer to mix things up.

Tomb King "necromancy" is priestly magic granted by their gods. Its closer to Light.

Necromancy is Dark Magic, a volatile mix of the darker magic lores, mostly Death.

Once you give an Ogre a mark and a GW they're about 45 points, a Troll is 35 points, has regeneration and strikes at S5 which is pretty much the same as S6 against 90% of stuff.

how dare you both prove me wrong over the internet,

the real question is regarding total warhammer lizardmen have a berserk mechanic (which was in older total wars, where they stopped listening to commands and just killed stuff)
shouldn't orks have had this to replicate animosity?
I wonder if the developers will spruce up older factions since they are incorporating them all into the battle royalle eventually.

We should have destroyed Norsca, every man woman and child, many years ago!

*shouting*

Enough! Dietershafen is lost, and our northern allies have failed us. Where was the last report of his whereabouts?

My spies tell me that his forces have moved to the east, we must expect an attack on Erengrad!

This is nonsense, no attack is coming - Kislev controls Troll Country. He's not attacking, he's making allies! At this very moment he courts the One-Eye, the Beastmen! The warherds will rise up against us and the Drakwald will be lost once more!

Ridiculous! Middenland won't stand for it! Our forces have sole military access to their forests. I believe the attack will come from the Chaos Wastes themselves - he intends to travel across the World's Edge Mountains, and into Ostermark - Sylvania will revolt, and sweep across from the east

Thats wild speculation!

He will come not from the north, nor the east - our traders in the south report that he has forged an alliance with the tribes of the Bjornling. He intends to circumnavigate the Empire and sail his army-

To the Badlands perhaps!

He would lose half his army to attrition alone! The other half would desert!

We must defend Blackfire Pass!

And do you expect the orcs to welcome him when he arrives?

I suppose he will bring with hem, an army of Chariots!

Elector Counts, I dare say that would be quite a feat, even for the great Surtha Ek.
>>
>>53274324
Also, for the Lizardmen, that was limited to units outside the General's aura (or Skink Chieftain's)

the Orcs are the ones who really needed something like that from the original races, tactics are for pansies, as random animosity is not happening any time

54mm is just a scale, it's usually seen as the largest scale of miniature war-gaming, very few people use it now but in the early days (1900's) it was more common as people war-gamed outside or on the floor. .

They seem more intent on creating kits for the god specific Beastmen. Of course they may have simply done this for Tzaangors because they fit in well with Tzeentch. What they've shown of the upcoming Death Guard seems like they're going to rely more on cultists and/or Plague Zombies than Pestigors.

>>53272986

They're only really doing that with god specific books and in some ways I think it's a step back because the books seemingly either focus more on one side or the other or give middling attention to both sides.

Likewise would a Saurus Scar Veteran work on a 20x20 base if he's in a skink battalion? If not, why? Is it really game breaking?

I know about 54mm as a scale. I've got Britain figures in my collection. But this is specifically suggestions in a 1984 rule book to use existing 54mm fantasy miniatures. The Colossi talks of a using a plastic Dwarf, and if it's supposed to be gigantic, and the layout looks very much like 2nd Edition, then this can't be referring to the Fantasy Regiments box set.

You can probably just call it Reikland rather than Reikwald. Altdorf isn't technically part of Reikland (It's an independent city-state but since it's ruled by KF as well the distinction is meaningless).

What other plans do you have for the mod? It's a shame that the map itself is basically hardcoded. I'd love some kind of retardedly lore-accurate mod. It rustles my jimmies that Kemperbad is part of Talabecland.

If I wanted to put together an army based around The Black Prince, would it be your traditional Vampire faire, human units since he's technically a Border Prince, a mixture of undead and living?

What would it look like?
>>
>>53299073
I noticed that in the lore he's careful to ride out alone, and wants to keep the truth of his state hidden - he wouldn't want any of his subjects to see him as a vampire. So I would actually avoid human units at all, but focus on mainly what a lone Strigoi could possibly raise/gather on the way to an engagement. Some zombies, some ghouls, maybe grave guard that he'd hidden around the borders of his domain, wolves, or spirits that he gathered up on the way?

Anons, fellow autists, I intend to run a Warhammer Fantasy rpg game with an all dwarf party.

The goal is to try and retake a dwarf hold, the group starts as slayers, and when they die they role actual dwarf characters rather than a slayer.

anyone else feels intense regret that WHFB was killed off without exploring most of it?
I feel a bit jealous looking at AoS as its getting some bizzarre fluff, even if most of it is shitty, and that makes me wonder what could've been in the wide Warhammer world had it not been killed
Fyreslayers may be crap, but couldn't there be other dwarfish cultures in other regions of the world? Or elven enclaves, like Athel Loren? Or whole new races?

Can't seem to find any real clarification on this in the book or google: can I have a standard, bsb, champion, and general in the same unit
What if my front line is full, can I move a champ or musician to the second row? The situation is I have my general on a Rogre bonebreaker in a unit of storm vermin with all of those. It's a 50x50 and with all that shit, I just can't get it all in the front row of 5, so am I forced to lose a rank in the back and make it ranks of 7?
>>
>>53303025
yes, you can have them all in one unit, some Bretonnian and Ogre builds rely on that.

technically, musician and standard bearer take precendence over characters in regard of being in the first rank (which is handily exploited by Ogre Gutstars), however the characters have Make Way rule, which allows them to move into base contact with enemy unit in combat... which translates into them being in the first rank when it matters. No one will care if you keep the Bonebreaker in the first rank all the time.

tl;dr
yes, you can have them all
yes, musician and standard bearer can go second rank

> I love to consume other people's stories and make up my own.

You seem to have contradicted yourself.

Warhammer is a setting like middle-earth and like middle-earth it was impossible for them to detail every inch of the world in any great depth, and why should they and rob the readers of any sense of creation?

Lord of the Rings and the many Warhammer novels are narratives in that setting.

Remember the distinction between them.
>>
>>53303530
Not the one your responding to, but your an ass. If we go by what your saying, then you may only play whfb (or any gane) so long as it is a reenactment of an already won battle, to which you know the outcome.
I know I'd feel pretty shitty if we were replaying the battle for lustria, and my skaven actually won, but you wall in and say "well...since in the books lizards won, it dosnt count.". You better believe we are having a campaign set with lizardmen reclaimed against skaven with old god tech. You can just sulk if you want, but we will be over here having fun with timeliness that don't end in AoS.
>>
>>53303421
So some material gives Karl Franz the title of Prince of Altdorf and some gives it as Grand Prince. Which would imply that it is the Principality or Grand Principality of Altdorf. However, Reikland is also sometimes called the Grand Principality of Reikland so that adds to the confusion.

Historically Altdorf would be termed an Imperial Immediacy. You could also call it the Imperial Free City of Altdorf.

Basically it's not set in stone, so you can pick which one you prefer. There isn't a separate name in any case - the lands immediately surrounding Altdorf come under its jurisdiction
>>
>>53303747

In oldhammer, all continuity is "canon" because the rulebook specified the core setting is nothing more than a base for your own FLGS continuity.

Furthermore, White Dwarf used to feature the fan creations and make them canon. The one that stands out in my mind is a Von Carstein a guy made for 5e, which was ripped off and became nuMannfred.

Resolve the hits one at a time along the ball's path after the bounce. If it ever fails to kill the thing it his, it stops. Otherwise, yes, it hits everything along that line.

Dunno about the body but for the head I'd recommend the helmet the chap on the farthest right in the front rank is wearing.
The unit in question is the great looking Warriors of Pestilence with Great Weapons from Avatars of War.

Pretty sure if they are not in the direct path (being that the front arc is a cone) you can place the shot normally (unless you have expendable rules or life is cheap rules, then fuck the slaves).
BRB pg. 112
>Nominate a point within the war machines line of sight and not outside of its maximum range. Your target does not have to be an enemy model; It can be a point on the ground if you wish.
>Note that you are not allowed to make a cannon shot in any way that would hit a friendly unit or an enemy unit in close combat.

It's really hard to say, since there's so little lore on Cathay, and most of what little does exist is vague or very old - and even then, almost no pictures. We have more text about Cathayan forces than pictures.

I mostly guess it's Ming/Qing (and that's personally what I prefer), since that is about the right time period, but it could easily mix up a bunch of things from various Chinese dynasties, and even a little of Korea. Japan it's harder to say - at some points it feels like they're referencing it, but Nippon also has a fairly established place in the lore.

I also wouldn't be surprised if it was just 'fantasy China,' in that it's barely based on anything actually Chinese at all. Written lore about them does include a lot of references to things far beyond real history.

Hey guys, anyone interested, or know of an online skype or chat based Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (2nd edition) game going on? I'd love to get in on a new group or new campaign atleast. I haven't played the RP game yet, so the group has to be willing to take on a newbie!

Anyone know of any? OR better yet, perhaps looking to start a group with me? I live on the East coast, and would love to get something going on weekends, or times after work if on a weekday. Anyone know of anything?

Ming/Qin is indeed the best period to base Cathay off, though mostly because I'm sick of Three Kingdoms stuff.

And in any case, with the lore of terracota soldiers you could easily make those in the shape of Han dinasty soldiers, sort of like how Vampire Count skellies wear armor from pre-empire tribes. Delicious anachronism that makes sense.

The only range that could be used a proxy is the Perry's Choson Korean and even then that's stretching it.

Shame there isn't actually any 28mm Ming/Qing ranges to kitbash with(I don't even want to think of making brigandine/lamellar conversions).
>>
>first box of minis and paints coming in tomorrow

>>
>>53316926
I agree with you pretty much completely; Three Kingdoms stuff can be great for getting a fantastical feel, but sometimes it seems like people forget that there's more to China's history. Even the Song Dynasty could be reliably meshed in, especially if one wanted to make it feel just a little archaic compared to the Old World - like how Bretonnia is often set up as being, with magic supporting outdated knights and peasant levies. Only Cathay seems to have a lot of statues and fireworks and such.

>>53317255
Congrats anon, what are you getting?
>>
>>53315681
That is a extremely highly stylized brigandine, which was the armor of choice at the time of the Ming and early Qing. As for elements, I'd say he has Tzeentch elements, not Japanese...

Its mostly a matter of whatever the hell you want it to be though because it was never fleshed out.
>>
>>53318537
Also, of note, one of the most striking things about Ming soldiers is that they don't have huge pauldrons, like their enemies the Manchu and the Japanese did. see:
>>53317071

Not that it really matters in a fantasy setting where you can combine them with the Manchu, whose hair is legendary.

The quip on the Japanese is a reference to the fluff that mentions "emerald green back-banners" and "long blades of thousand-folded iron" etc.

>>53318607
>Also, of note, one of the most striking things about Ming soldiers is that they don't have huge pauldrons, like their enemies the Manchu and the Japanese did.
Even the Manchus by in large wore the same equipment as their Ming adversaries, brigandine shoulder guards were used during the tail end of the dynasty iirc.

>Not that it really matters in a fantasy setting where you can combine them with the Manchu, whose hair is legendary.
Yea,I don't mind Warhammer's version of Cathay where historical tropes are turned up to 11.

Unfortunately, most of the historical ranges are a thousand year too early for this sort of Ming/Qing aesthetic.

Some of the great painters on here and /wip/ will probably kill me but I only ever had 3 brushes. I had a fine detail, a size 1 brush and then something slightly larger for doing monsters or large surface areas.

The reason I say this is because I am of the opinion that buying a handful of good quality brushes is better than buying a quantity of bad brushes.
>>
>>53308496

It would not be recognisable to us now, they used cannons that fired actual projectiles, and what it hit in real life it hit in the game. You moved as much as you could move in a set amount of time, there wasn't very much abstraction, or less than we are used to today.

Probably not as the musician needs to be able to control the rhythm of what he's playing.

But this is fantasy and so you can do what looks cool.

There's usually a BBG up but maybe it's gone to a weekend only thread.

The death zone season 2 book supplements the first. Each book contains a number of new teams, new star players and some optional rules. So yes they both have different information and you'll need them both if you want all the rules. I think DZS2 is the only place to get rules for the Goblin team.

If you're just starting I would only buy the base game, you get all the rules for the two teams there. Then once you decide what teams you like you can pick which books you want.
