Stormsurge doubleshooting is nerfed. Markerlights are seriously nerfed. Drones are a little better and have some sort of look-out-sir shit. Sniper drones have a use, but only hit on a 5+.

The biggest buff is that some of their stuff can't be locked in combat.

The LOS bit is specifically so you now use shield drones as bodyguards. You bring them as separate units and put them nearby your valuable stuff. It doesn't matter if enemy targets valuable stuff, the shield drones take the hit. Doesn't matter if shield drones die, they aren't in the same unit as the valuable stuff, so valuable stuff won't run away due to battleshock.

I painted my Deredeo some more. He now has a couple stylistic green stripes on his silver hull. No pictures though because my camera is perma-dead. I want to tint his silver armour next , so I can then add silver tribal markings all over it like pic-related.

My green stripes are a stylistic choice for company markings. Since having just plain silver tanks is pretty boring, and I need other sources of detailing to make them stand out.

Sure, it's cool to have something that makes raven guard different to ultramarines, but I'd like it if players didn't have to declare for certain which chapter their homebrew guys are descended from.

Even more so with things like craftworlds, septs and regiments, where there are meant to be a whole bunch of them which haven't been detailed yet. Especially not a fan of giving a bonus for playing a force of specific citadel miniatures painted in an official GW colour scheme, no creativity allowed.

Fly sounds like the replacement for jetpack unit type. Nothing was said about JSJ. Either it is taken for granted OR it doesn’t exist anymore. Being able to jump out of combats is pretty big thing on its own anyway.

This was expected from the characters reveal. Your characters will impact the board greatly and the era of simple beatstick/gunstick heroes is probably finally over.


Conclusion: Without full rules and point costs all speculations at this point is pretty moot. It seems that battlesuits will remain the main focus of t’au, like it or not.

I posted these in the other thread, but I finished my Reavers yesterday. I'm going to take a small break from painting so right now I'm assembling my Wyches for SW:A and possibly 8th.

As for the green pods, I recommend correcting the angle of the "fluid" by making sure it is parallel to the base with some black and then doing a line of yellow at the top. Basically, follow this guide(http://eyeoferror.blogspot.com/2013/01/painting-realistic-fluid-filled-vials_7.html), and as an additional step, throw some 'Ardcoat on there AFTER you seal the model if you seal it at all.

I don't care, these dudes are turning into My Dudes anyway. The current set I'm working on has green-stripes as it's Company Markings, and I mark out my veterans/venerables using the blue tint with silver tribal symbols.

Usefulness, combi-bolter is probably best. You've got enough power weapons in the unit to take care of most things and they aren't exactly fast enough to engage in close combat reliably. Take maximum shooty.

Looks-wise, I think the khopesh looks pretty awesome.

That seems like a very liberal reading of 'any' as 'every'

Three weapons on crisis suits is probably a factor of them being able to take a normal weapon and a twin linked one before. Special weapons in general seem more expensive though, so doing so seems prohibitive.

I think you are right on Fly being the jetpack replacement though. It depends on point costs, but I think without the same degree of jump shoot jump shenanigans, Tau infantry are looking better.

Not all snipers will be BS 5+. Chances are that the drone controller will boost their shooting anyway. Rapid fire is also pretty nasty on something with 48" range.

S 5 wounds most infantry on a 3+. Hopefully not all sniper weapons are that strong.

AP 0 and no rending effect is something to be thankful for, but when you've got fifty or so points invested per wound, it's worth the enemy's time to just spam snipers at you and hope you fail your save.

A big mek with eavy armour, for example, needs just six hits from that rifle to go down. One squad of drones can do that in a turn (nine drones with two shots each, about the same cost as a full tactical squad) even if there is nothing boosting their shooting. Primaris psykers, painboyz, genestealer magi, ethereals and countless other weak support characters will die easily to sniper fire. If you contribute a meaningful benefit to your army and you aren't geared up to tank hits, you're going down.

Of course these models will be balanced by having their points cut, which will make them highly efficient against armies which don't have snipers. Look forward to telling your opponent that you're taking orks, tyranids or chaos and having him suddenly decide to choose a bunch of force multipliers.

As a guard player (and thus an unrelated third party) I would love to see the Skittarii and Tau go at it only for SURPRISE CHAOS to happen.
