Well, I guess it's mostly the fact that we meet regularly, which is a first time this happens to me. Seriously, every time I joined a game for the last few years, it dissolved after a session or two.

The GM is great. I knew him for the last few years, and all that time couldn't quite decide whether he's an asshole boaster, or a cheerful tough guy with a heart of gold and big mouth. I still can't, but he's the best GM I have ever played with. Uses music amazingly, gives each player what he wants - game, RP, rolls, problem solving - runs the story dynamically, uses backstories for plot hooks and his sessions are lotsa fun. I'm also finding out that he is pretty well-known in local 'circles', although as for now I am not quite sure why.

The players are great too. I mean, we run the stereotypical gamut and then some. Balding philosophy PhD that chugs down energy drinks like water, a bit edgy but alright guy not yet out of high school, cute, nerdy programming student, non-cute, laid back power station worker, a disinterested wallflower that occasionaly drops tidbits of insight. We were all picked up by the GM and there has been really good chemistry in the group.

As for now the story plays out like something in between Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Overlord and 80s fantasy. Full sandbox. Faux-egyptian setting with fun religions and faction wars out of wazzoo.

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent my cheer.

I BELIEVE IN THIS THREAD

My previous group, despite having a lot of drop-outs and getting cancelled because of it, was really one of the best groups I've ever played with. Everyone was on the same page about roleplaying, character progression and what we wanted to do as a party. The GM was perfect at creating an engaging world that felt alive and none of his plot twists felt forced or unforeseeable bullshit. Currently trying to work out a timeslot to start playing with these guys again.

Have a group that I have a lot of fun with. We're all a bunch of idiots that like to test out different games so usually we're all incompetent buffoons while we play.
Our first time playing Tenra Bansho Zero had our Kongohki character accidentally over speccing for combat and destroying everything he came across cause he wasn't really sure what to expect as he started frequently apologizing to the GM because he was worried about being 'that guy.'
Our more recent trip into the Iron Kingdoms RPG has a mercenary group made up of all sorts of oddities including even a noir detective Gatorman, an Iosan arcanist who might be the only person with their head on straight, a consistently drunk pistoleer who is only slightly less deadly than a gunmage, a newbie warcaster who's intro had her nearly getting kidnapped by her own warjack because she didn't tell it to stop, and the Nomad warjack, which has the personality of Sanger Zonvolt.
We're discussing both a D&D campaign now, along with a Khadoran focused Iron Kingdoms campaign and I'm looking forward to it.

I too have joined a fun game! I thought my DM was above tabletop games but it turns out he seems very passionate about it. He's organized, is pretty cool about the game and he does a lot of cool little things.(e.g.: He shopped our characters as cats for example).
Made me wish to DM once again.
