Those looks a lot like what lord of the ring SBG had with the heroic stats. They were pretty nice mechanic tbqh. It gives an extra thing to tune for army lists, ie. do I take more of these powerful units and get less CP or do I try to get more CP to pad out bad rolls/decide the fights.

Even the revealed bonuses are almost straight port.
>Might points were used to boost dice rolls of the hero using them
>Might points could also be used for heroic move/shoot/fight to perform actions out of normal turn order
>Will point were used to boost courage (ld) tests of the hero and succesful test for hero also auto-passed same tests for troops around him

Eh im stripping paint off a metric ton of steel legion. Which I then hope to cast in instant molds to add about 30-50 extra dudes to my army for a total of 150. Now the hard part will be converting the majority of them into a theme for each squad or platoon. I've never liked how schizophrenic the standard squad looks in terms of what it is that they are meant to be doing. So I'll have a bunch running/charging, then some firing or affixing bayonets. a couple of them will be tank riders. some will have no helmet or gasmask to add some humanisation to the army. some in a firing line, some looking as if they are about to be charged by orks or whatever.

Then im going to chronicle my decent into madness batch painting them all at once.

oh and about 30 stormtroopers on the side converted to look like praetorians.

Gonna start a Daemon army, /tg/. I've weighed up the options and for the most bang for my buck, a Daemon army would go the furthest for play. Here's why:

>Can be used in 40k
>Can be used in 30k
>Can be used in Age of Sigmar

Only thing they can't do right now is get played in Shadow Wars, but eh. I want to make a Khorne-themed army, and I've just bought the chestpiece for the Lord of Skulls. I'm gonna combine this with some Helbrute parts and some other shit I've got laying around, as well as some greenstuff fuckery to make a cool Bloodthirster.

What head should I use? Immediately, I'm thinking the Manticore, Ghorgon (current favourite, with some custom horns and a faceplate), or just the generic Bloodthirster heads. Any other suggestions?
>>
>>53238895

So this is a hell of a reach but the old-school camo made me ask: does anyone have the old (old old old) IG Armored Company markings page from, like, Space Marine-era Epic?
>>
>>53238967
The blue and grey/white is a common Arctic camo scheme for vehicles, and red and white are common types of squadron markings for vehicles even IRL.

For the record, though, all of North America is unified in some sort of state, but it's practically irrelevant because of Unification - just like everything else on Terra not directly related to maintaining the Imperial bureaucracy.

Why? Or is having a mixed army not allowed anymore? If it is, you're just gimping yourself. A mixed army is superior most of the time since any flaws that a Khorne daemon may have can be covered by other daemons.

Wanting to play and be competitive and not use your models as expensive paper weights and using the codexes as toilet paper does not make me a waac fag. It means I care about the game. There is no other reason to bother buying codexes and models if you don't care about the game. And don't say "because you can play with friends". If I wanted that I'd play pretend and have armies face off in my imagination and save myself some money.

Apparently that's controversial and warrants dogpiling me and calling me a waacfag. Go fuck yourselves, you fat pieces of shit. Maybe if you didn't care more about pretty toys you would win and be less bitter about having spent so much money on the game and would have more to show for it than your toys. Nor does it make me a waacfag. I play armies that aren't OP and have fun. But like any game you try to win. Apparently you bend over and love losing. MTG Pros threw a bitchfit on twitter to get him banned. Despite many of them writing articles about how men need to stop being fat and smelly at MTG tournaments because its sexist towards women. WOTC then suspended him for FIVE YEARS because the MTG pro scene is an old boys club with most of WOTCs staff being their friends/former team mates.

He's projecting. He loves losing for years and finds it fun, so to him wanting to win automatically means I have a waac mentality. That's retarded. There is a big difference between what I said and the guy who buys OP shit all the time to win. All I'm saying is it's retarded to buy models and codexes without caring AT ALL about trying to win. >>53239759

honestly. Its the little improvements that add up. Then suddenly you're painting at level that you never expected and its a great feeling.

Back in the day when the internet wasnt a great source on improving your technique it was very hard to learn how to paint well. I personally set a goal to try mproving every time i started a new army or colour scheme for a force. you should have seen some of my first models. they were blood angels with ultramarines colours painted over with racing car red. absolute blobby mutants with awful poses. but I was really proud of them because they were mine and i had painted them myself. Then i got some eldar guardians. followed by some imperial guard. then a bunch of tyranids. and before I knew it I was painting better than most of the people I played against at the local club or store. and once you learn these techniques they may get a little rusty but you will never unlearn them so you can only go upwards from where you are as long as you try to improve yourself.

>Maybe you're a fag who cares about toys, but some of us don't buy the codex and expensive models to not play the game or have a chance of winning.
These aren't the words of someone who likes to try to win when he plays but not optimally, these are the words of a WAACfag jumping down someone's throat for how they want to play their toy soldier games. You can't try to spin yourself as innocent when you came in spouting off "BADWRONGFUN" and then relied on ad hominem to people who criticized you.

Did you do the right thing and either refuse to play him or play by the actual rules of terrain set up.

This type of thing usually curbs waac tendencies or if it doesn't the guy doesn't get a game and leaves.

Actual tournament players are more likely to want a functional if perhaps boring setup with big pieces in corner quadrants and table centre with smaller terrain in between giving at least 25% terrain.

bear in mind that I haven't finished base coating yet, so I'm nowhere near ready to wash. As for your other points:

I use Vallejo gray primer because it lets me get a good cover of yellow and beige without too many layers.

I do thin my paints. I think any thickness problems come from me overloading my brush( which I am trying to get better at).

I do need to learn to drybrush. Can you suggest any good models to practice it on?
>>
>>53240214
I don't know the specifics, it's been years since I played any formal mtg. I think on the bigger events the vetting process is tighter and since your DCI number is tied to your personal info it's easy to double check from proper ID's. Of course if people knows your face it gets even harder.

wash the bases with a black wash heavily then maybe highlight them if you want to go a little further with them.

Paint the air vents on the jump packs too.

Maybe look into some very fine highlights for black armour and also the red details with a 50/50 orange red mix.

They look very neat though so good job on that front!

Just starting collecting and I got the Ork "start collecting" box. Making an army of speed freaks, and for the "my dudes" bits I'm imagining that they have a unusual amount of grots in their numbers that help do the menial labor, repairs and whatnot. So for the army list I'll have a lot of grot oilers/ammo runs/etc. as well as maybe some kans/grot tanks and the like. I could also add some gretchin squads, but that wouldn't fit with the "gotta go fast" speed freaks theme.

I have very cherished memories of having 6-9 killa-kans with 2-3 deff dreads rolling across a board with a mek waddling behind them all with a force field.

Then a squad of burnas in a battlewagon somewhere torching people to death with 15 flamer templates

in 5th

Good times

I posted this last week and got laughed at for it, but this information is directly what my blackshirt told said he was allowed to "feed me".

>NuMarines are called Primaris Marines
>Guilliman started the Primaris Marines project back during the heresy to combat chaos-infused Traitors because normal marines were losing ground vs chaos-powered brethren
>They are Bobby G's geneseed crossed with methods of making Custodes and added AdMech Tech
>only Cawl and Bobby G knew of the project
>Thousands of Primaris Marines we created and stored on different worlds across galaxy in cryo-pods ready for deployment(remember the teaser video)
>Fulgrim vs Guilliman happened and the Primaris Marines were never launched
>Cawl didn't want to launch them without the word of Bobby G
>Cawl's actual main objective was to get these marines to launch, but the objective of rezzing Guilliman came first
>These marines are to help bolster chapters that are low in numbers
>Some will reject the Primaris Marines as abominations because they are not made with X Primarch's geneseed
>potentially cause a rift in the Imperium

Gamewise:
>They are THE answer to Truescale marines without replacing the entire range(and pissing off customer base), so they can be used as Truescales OR Primaris Marines
>Primaris Marines can be fielded along side other Space Marines
>Primaris Marines can be fielded as a standalone force
>More points heavy than GK
>Primaris Marines have exclusive access to some new weapons
>1 type of weapon per squad, so all 5 guys get the same weapon
>The Starter set is Ultras VS Death Guard (You do get Primaris Marines, too.)
>Starter set should include roughly 56 models
>Under $150 USD
>5 Books at launch, Space Marines, Imperium, Chaos, Xenos 1, and Xenos 2, each serving as a printed compendium of the "all released at once" rules update for 8th with faction exclusive updates coming later
>>

It's one of the 30k novels. Plot in a nutshell:
> Immediately following the dropsite massacre
> Corax asks the emperor for reinforcements, BIG E gives him the secret location of a mountain vault that holds the gene-labs where he created the primarchs and space marines
> Corax goes there and picks the worlds biggest lock with the help of some Custodians
> He uses the genetic material of the primarchs themselves and the assistance of the Magos Biologis Primus of Mars to create genetic hybrids of Primarch and Space Marines
> These get called "Raptors", and are basically superior to space marines in every conceivable way.
> THEN THE ALPHA LEGION FUCKS WITH IT, MIXES DAEMON BLOOD WITH THE GENESEED.
> Nu-Marines start turning into horrifying mutants and Chaos Spawn
> Corax decides to give the less mutated ones power armour, and uses the chaos spawn as meat shields to launch a guerilla war against the traitor legions.

What do you call a friendly WAACfag then? Someone who only buys the OP faction, rule lawyers but in a sorta friendly way, joins tournaments to destroy newbies, and acts like he's a master strategist even though you can beat him with a less cheesy list if you knew about tactics and game theory?
>>
>>53243075

>>53242994
I remember reading something about a guy that showed up to a Golden Daemon competition with a dreadnought that had weathering powders put on it. People were completely fucking baffled, and accused him of somehow cheating, because they had never even seen such a thing done. And this was done in like early 1990s.

It's now become so common among master painters that you literally can't win a competition without at least knowing how to use weathering powders. And every forgeworld model on their entire website has weathering applied to it.

I'd like to describe it like this:
> Start by making models look hideous
> Eventually learn how to make them beautiful
> Then go right back to making them hideous again. But in a realistic-battle worn kinda way.
>>
>>53243075
I know a guy who dropped several hundred bucks on deathwatch, then space wolves, then 75 fenrisian wolves as he tried to chase the flavor of the month.

He was still friendly about it, since he pretty much just got into an arms race with a Tau player he knew.

They probably took a page from Warmachine. Privateer Press released their latest edition last year, but its essentially been a public beta test. Bunch of broken and unbalanced shit (literal Day 1 Erratas to fix First Turn Kills they overlooked) when they rushed it out, all because they feared people "losing interest" if they let it develop for too long.

Overall it's been an improvement over the last edition, but several factions were nerfed to the ground; one faction was so bad they had to rewrite the entire faction because nobody was playing or buying any of it anymore.
>>
>>53243097
How can you accuse someone of cheating in a painting contest? If his model looks like that, then it looks like that.
>>
>>53243111
Our local WAACfag is on an arms race with everyone. He'll say he bought this because he thinks someone's buying that etc. He's been playing for years but the most he's read of fluff is watching youtube videos. I don't understand people like this, winning in current ed 40k with top tier armies isn't even that challenging or fun.
>>
Anons is it a bad idea for me to want to mount bloodletters on square bases and march them up the board like an orderly legion? Or at least just theme them as such?
>>
>>53243131
He clearly built a large dreadnought then shrunk it with a shrink ray which is illegal
>>
>>53243131
Up until that point, nobody had ever considered such a thing. You would assume that "Models are painted with paint, and there's nothing more to say about that". Then someone comes to a painting contest and wins it with a model that was "painted" with things that aren't paint, it kinda seems weird. Again, nobody had ever seen such a thing before, and the effects that weathering powders produce aren't possible with just traditional painting. The effect is not unlike me showing up to a gunfight with an MG42, and everyone else has matchlock rifles.
>>

Just yesterday I got into a 2v2 game with a local player who I had seen, but never played against. On my team I had the local master-painter(running Blood Angels with sanguinary guard and death company that he's won painting contests with). And I had my Steel Confessors, with a build mostly meant for being fire-support and tanking. I brought my Deredeo for the first time in over a year.

Other team was the Waac player, and a new kid running Black Legion. Waac guy had deathwatch deathstars. He also had the transport, but as soon as I saw the blackstar, I told him, "Hey dude, I've got my deredeo today, it'll make flyers pretty much useless. If you want to, I'll let you swap that flyer out for something else of equal points to make things fair." Which to be fair, it would have been unsporting to surprise someone with how freakishly deadly a deredeo is to flyers. He just kind of scoffed at it, and said that he'd never accept that as a tournament player.

> Match continues on, me and my blood angels buddy have a lot of fun trying to deal with things, taking out the kill teams as things go on.
> Meanwhile the Waac player is trying to rules lawyer absolutely everything, and also cheats in minor ways(When I roll scatter for plasma cannons, he always tries to move the template directly towards my friendly models, regardless of which direction the arrow points). It's obvious he isn't having any fun, but he does take out a bunch of things.
> The game ends in a 4:4 draw, as the store was closing down.

Things could be worse, as far as waac players go, the one I saw yesterday isn't that bad. My store does however have people like this
> 14 year old kid who buys models with his mom's credit card. Fudges rules like a motherfucker and uses loaded dice
> A tourneyfag eldar player who cheats in painting competitions by getting professionals to paint his models for him. Brings lists like "6 squads of D-guard all in wave serpents.. In a 1500 point 'Casual' game"

> Dat feel when I've more or less played the same army for 3 years now.
I've been pretty thoroughly enjoying team games with my local group. The shadow war campaign really brought in a bunch more players. For team games, I seem to enjoy playing as "The Anvil" kind of armies. I tend to bring a lot more tougher objective holding units in team games, like for example running 4 maxed out troop slots WITH transports, and then grabbing a solid HQ with shitloads of dreadnoughts. Basically an army that can hold down the fort and take hits while dishing them out. And I tend to leave my teammates to run more elite armies that can dish out lots of damage, but can't take a hit as easily.

It's not price gouging.

FW has to support employees, molds, machines, pay taxes.

FW has to actually create the sculpts of the models.

So, what are people's favorite thing about 8th edition that's been released so far?

Currently I'm really liking the changes to the cover system, boosting armor saves with solid cover and lowering chances to hit with non-physical cover like smoke screens. I never liked the idea that things that make you harder to hit didn't actually do so if your armor was technically stronger. Also really liking how it interacts with armor modifiers, it adds a lot more to the shooting phase than just trying to eliminate their best save completely.

I'm super pleased to see them taking the same approach they took with the general's handbook. It will be nice for there to be a more reliable balancing through point adjustment. I think it will make for a much healthier edition.

As it seems to be with plenty of folks the sytem getting modifiers in general whether to hit modifiers or save modifiers is really fucking good.
>>
>>53244113
That too, realizing that the sergeant with a plasma pistol I'm fighting can just poke my dude in the chest and pull the trigger makes that plasma pistol seem worthwhile. I also thought it was dumb as hell that pistol whipping someone could either count as a block of metal or a sword that can freeze people solid and ignore most armor depending on what melee weapon you have, regardless of the pistol itself.
>>
>>53244105
It took me some time to adjust to hard cover affecting the armour save but I think I actually really like it now. And the fact that they separated that from soft cover being the hit modifiers (which is what I had wanted all cover to be) is actually great. I agree with all of that.

But so far the thing that's really standing out to me is the stratagems rules they just released. If each Faction has really flavorful unique ones that belong to themselves it will be one of the best additions to the game in ages. Adding more decision-making into the game with an actual resource management system is awesome and makes the players feel like they have more agency.

Why not?

Why should you not have the rights to the thing you invented, and spent money on inventing?
Is intellectual property not a thing in whatever retarded ancap hive you crawled out of?

so i figure i might as well ask here
if a guardsman gets hit with say a Battle Cannon, with it's -2 AP does he get a minimum 6 save or is it completely ignored in 8th ED? I'm guessing the latter but I just want some clarification.
>>
>>53244134
Inventors tend to be shitty salesmen. There's always gonna be some conman who can sell something better because all he has to do is copy and market the thing instead of actually working on it or any other designs.

Otherwise, why would anything ever get invented? Unless you have a great sense of business as well as mechanics, you'll die poor and penniless. Easier to just focus on having a good sense of business and then just enough mechanics to copy whoever comes up with something new.
>>
>>53244134
That and the heavy weapons changes makes tac squads so much more appealing, especially since the detachments with the most command points require quite a few troops. Hopefully this will have more troops showing up in game instead of people taking the bare minimum so they can spam expensive dudes.

>>53244143
Actually editing things will be nice. If they keep up with it then it'll really discourage flavor of the month players and encourage people to play what they like.
>>

It gets eliminated completely. This was confirmed somewhere.

Because a lack of competition only screws over consumers. If being the first out the gate isn't a huge advantage already I don't what is.

Copyright should only be so someone can't sell a product under someone else's brand.

>>53244177
I'm fine with the product being fully attributed to who made it. I'm not fine with exclusive rights being held on production of products.
>>

Howling Banshees have all the +1 Masterwork Bastardswords you'll need.

Learn to be "Victoria Lamb" levels of good painting, while cursing her for only making Guard bitz?
>>
>>53244177
Most people who invent things don't profit from it anyway, as they do it under contract.
>>
>>53244192

Why do customers have a right to purchase the product that you invented by yourself, at your expense,
at a price that you cannot make a net profit at, because you invested money into the R&D?

protip: they don't
If it's too expensive for them, they'll just have to wait until the patent expires, or the product does well enough that the owner can lower prices
>>
>>53239145
There needs to be more lore about them. They sound badass.
>>
>>53244227
Unless of course it's a product they require to live, then fuck them right?
>>
>>53244237

Or, you could have the government come in and help subsidize costs.
But I guess that would just be more nasty statism.
Those darn governments, actually doing their intended job of protecting their citizens!
Makes me ill just thinking about it...
>>
>>53244153
Marines never taking cover unless an ap3 gun was pointed at them felt silly, especially if they were holding a point. This should also be a big boost for melee armies, especially with any that can move through cover. It also makes me think of how useful fucking stealth will be.

And yeah, stratagems seem to be a decent answer to BATTLESHOCK GONNA KILL MY SWARMS, in addition to whatever faction-specific stuff we get. I'm not sure how I feel about the amount of shit you can use per phase if it's stacked, especially if people try to frontload things on turn one, but overall I'm really liking it.

>>53244169
Know what was fun? Playing against orks as space memes and having my wolfguard terminator sergeant get shot in the face by a lucky grot. I mean it was legitimately fun because of all the jokes of "this is why you wear a fucking helmet to war you dumb furry fuck", but the fact that it's a thing that could happen easily was kinda crap. If a grot didn't shot him in his stupid exposed face it wouldn't have been very entertaining.

>>53244174
Armor doesn't arbitrarily ignore things. If he has some kind of armor modifier then I'm sure he could survive it, like an aegis defense line.

You're right, there should be no restrictions at all. Then every company who invents new medicine can go bankrupt from copycats, and then there will be no new medicine for the people who need it.

Yes, price gouging there is scummy, but the alternative isn't much better for the consumer in the long run.

Government subsidies aren't always exactly reliable or consumer focused.

You can only use the same strategem once per phase.

Well, that's your opinion,
but the only options are patents, or no innovation.

>but what if someone patents a medicine you need to live and charges a ton for it???
Then I'd still be in a much better position than if nobody invented it at all, because it wasn't profitable.
>>
>>53244297

Obviously not, or there wouldn't be an issue, and people wouldn't need to bother patenting things.
>>

Tough shit.
Go try that bullshit out in the real world and see how it works.
Can't wait to read about your medicine company that came up with a new breakthrough after millions of dollars in research, didn't patent anything, and somehow never got undercut by everyone else and made a great product because 'muh brand loyalty'

not played 40k in twenty years, and got on board the new edition hype train, so i bought a bunch of tau shit cause i'm a weeaboo. i'm quite happy to build my crisis battlesuits on purely aesthetic grounds and be shit on the tabletop, but in theory, is doing double burst cannons and a missile pod going to be the most pointless thing in the universe?

and yeah i know, wait, but i can't wait, i've got to build these fuckers, they're calling to me
>>
>>53244400
The only way I'm getting undercut is if I have an already successful product and by that time I'm already branding and marketing.

And what's that have to do with the vast swarms of poor people who can't afford to do that and have to cut out heavy quality of life things to get what they need, as the medicine example goes. Avoiding that hell to save some money is enough to make it not even a question.

In Burgerland, which I'm using as a reference because it's where I live and we have a huge population compared to most western countries, middle-class suburbia isn't the majority. I sure as hell wouldn't skip meals so I can support a namebrand pill if I can just get an off-brand for something more affordable. I still think patents are a good thing because I know if the ones who made the newer meds didn't think they could make enough money from the start I'd be stuck with the old meds that gave people migranes so bad they wanted to kill themselves.

tl;dr the people you know and those like them aren't enough to carry a company

>>
>>53244392

Melta stats have been shown, all pistols confirmed for being shot in melee.
>>
>>53244433
If you aren't buying namebrand then they're not making money off you so you don't count for them anyway.

>>
>>53244441
a little bit too thick.

>>
>>53244441
Don't try to put thick layers all at once, as paint dries it contracts which is going to leave cracks if there's too much clumped together. Thin it out and layer it up.
>>
>>53244462
Offbrand takes time to kick in anyway. Without patent the company can't sell it for 90% profit out the gate.

With current rules it's pretty pointless to have 3 guns. Twin-linked burst cannon and missile pod is ok combo. You fire 6 shots with medium ap and S. The range differences on those guns are a bit missmatch. No idea how crisis suits will be in the 8th.
