Evening, /tg/. Figured I'd let you guys know how things are going in the engine room.

Today's match went pretty much as we expected. /biz/ are a very strong defensive side and we knew going in that we'd need to shore up our own defences which we largely accomplished, save for a few hair-raising moments here and there.

Our attack is still floundering, that much is true. It's something we've been working on constantly but it's proving difficult to try and pin down since, there's no one right answer to the question "how do we counter X?" Our focus today was sending long balls up the field and disrupting the defence with quick counter runs from Doomrider, Emps, and the others. Thankfully, it paid off for us but, it was a very close fought thing.

Still, onwards and upwards. We're playing /b/ next Saturday, same time, same channel. It's win and we're in to both the knockouts and the Summer Elite Cup so we're going to need every last one of you boyz and girlz WAAAAGHin' and believin' in the team. So, stay vigilant brothers and sisters.

Hi, different testeranon here- The main point of just having Doomrider and the Emprah in stagger up for striking is because of that particular preset, being counter-laaangball, is all about taking control of the ball and blasting it up-field to Emprah or Doomrider, preferably Emprah, who then will either cross it or center it to the other member who will have an opportunity to strike at goal- you saw this in action several times during the match, where Doomrider had a 1v1 against Firm Handshake,
the opposing GK.

Counter-short works similarly, only with more passing and more players involved daisy-chaining the ball up the field, focusing on several passes to confuse the defense instead of just lobbing the ball up the pitch and either making a goal attempt or starting up a siege on the opposing box/goal.

Other presets still have Doomrider and the Emprah up in front, and the main reason for this is simple- they're the Center Fielder (your main striker/goal poacher/opportunity man) and your Second Striker (Support Striker/Playmaker/set-up man/the follow-through).

They're up further then the other players in the 'formation' due to their position, it's where their roles are best served for the overall team.

Now, you could over-stack your forward positions into what we call '7 man forwards', or a 1-2-7 reading it, 1 defender, 2 midfielders, 7 attackers.

IIRC, 1-2-7 formations aren't actually possible in PES, and as such, are illegal in 4CC play, but even then it wouldn't be a very wise tactical move, as you'd either A- burn out all of your players too quickly for them to be useful for the whole match or B- get scored on so much by a team running counter of any kind that any goals you score would just be retaliatory, meaning you either lose or tie, and that's no good.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way we can take 20 on this guys, it's all a process of testing and re-testing and tweaking what we've already delivered, and strive to make it better.

TL;DR- That's how the party was planned out, and the party is doing a bang-up job of not dying from all the shots they're taking, even if damage output isn't the best. Fixing Offense will happen upon next level up, when we get another attribute point.

Right, but we seriously need to improve our tictacs by Friday. We've a bad habit of only ever having Doomrider and Emprah up the pitch and they are just not good at coordinating with each other.

Several experts (including cup-winning managers) have said that our group is the most evenly matched this cup and so far that seems to be the case with all teams on 3 points (1 win, 1 loss) and 0 goal difference after two thirds of the games.

In fact, if our game had ended 2-1 instead of 1-0, all teams in the group would have been in an exact tie.

Just our luck, of course.
