Is it me or do the new changes to the Orkanauts in 8th that we've seen thus far still fail to find them a place in your average Ork list compared to other things when you consider how they'll likely buff things like the Stompa, Deff Dreads and Killa Kans or even Ork infantry like Tank Bustas or artillery like Mek Gunz?

You need to not be playing Guard if you want the real MI. The real MI are hyper-elite hulking mechanized gorillas. Your best bet would be "counts as" Crisis Suits.
>>
>>53222291
Assuming you are aiming for the ones from the Starship Troopers film, any mix of conscripts, infantry platoons, veteran squads, command squads and psykers you like. Special weapons are restricted to sniper rifles and maybe demolition charges, heavies I'm not sure... they had shoulder-launched nukes which doesn't seem to fit any 40k weapon (possibly represent them with a master of ordinance) and I think some kind of HMG (which could be heavy bolters or autocannons, I guess).

>>
>>53222408
Yep canonically by the book the Mobile Infantry use battlesuits about the size of crisis suits. I don't recall them having melee weapons on them either.
>>
>>53222650
You might be able to use Sentinels for that well enough.
>>
>>53222713
What about those Elysian Drop Sentinels? Those would probably fit the style well.
>>
>>53222713
Nah not without some heavy conversion. The suits in the book fly and are pretty agile compared to the sentinel.
>>
>>53222562
these don't look like a limited release. Its just an attempt to get a bigger foothold in Japan by partnering with a local company and imitating a style of mini thats popular there. I wouldn't expect them to get crazy expensive on ebay.

>>
So, kind of late to the party because I've been playing D&D all day, but some observations on the daemons faction focus...

Apparently GW are still being needlessly complex for the sake of 'flavour'; most of the god-specific bonuses seem like they would have been done better by simply increasing stats. Khorne are great in close combat? There are three different ways you could do that without needing to make a special rule. Nurgle are really hard to kill? Again, three different ways to do that with the basic statline, no need for extra rules.

It seems that USRs are really dead, which we kind of knew already. Curious how they will do the always strikes first thing without using them to resolve rules interaction.

Lord of change getting 16 W seems to imply that most monstrous creatures will get about triple their current wounds to compensate for most heavy weapons doing D3 or D6 damage now.

Fucking rending is still around, even though the new AP system is perfectly able to do the job. Again, needless complexity when you could just use the statline to represent it. More rules to forget.

Blue horrors use reinforcement points. Still not 100% clear if they are just for summoned units or all reinforcements (odd name if it's just for summoned stuff). Not convinced that the extra flexibility is better than just starting with more units, but we'll see.

It's not clear if the rundown of problems the current codex has at the beginning of these articles is meant to imply that they are going to fix them. Seems like they could be a bit more explicit about that, especially when it's not a question of nerfing stuff but just removing irritating shit like a dozen random tables to roll on.

Also, kind of hope that bunches of random tables might still be in the game as an optional thing. I think 7th edition actually did a pretty good job with things like maelstrom of war. Nothing wrong with a bit more detail if you can choose to ignore it.

>>53222466
No vehicles except flyers in the first film. Not sure about the sequels, the cartoon and the various games. The flyers we see are distinctly not battlefield combat aircraft and are basically just used to get to the surface of the planets.

I think some of the later stuff introduced more elements from the book, notably battlesuits. Sentinels are about as close as you can get in the AM list. They lack the jump capabilities of the book suits and have less firepower, but the only thing in the game that even comes close are Tau battlesuits.

Heavy weapons squads seem like they would fit. I don't think we ever actually see a dedicated heavy weapons squad in the film, but they have HMGs and it isn't much of a stretch to say they could put those HMGs in a squad. We never really get a good idea of the unit structure anyway.

This is for you fucking faggots too lazy or shitty to paint

FOR THE LAZY FUCK WHO WANTS TO PRETEND HE TRIED AND WANTS IT TO BE "TABLETOP QUALITY"

WHAT YOU GODDAMN NEED

>your fucking brushes
>black primer
>like three goddamn paints, one for flesh if you need it, one metal for your weapons, and a color for clothes. More are preferred, but you're a lazy shitbag
>Army Painter dark tone quickshade or a wood varnish that you'll need to thin out with mineral spirits Miniwax works in my experience
>Matt Varnish for minis

Basecoat the model. (let it dry you stupid asshole)

Paint the frigging thing with your three/five pitiful colors. (let that goddamn dry)

Now dip the model into the quickshade you either made or bought, let most of it drip off, then shake the excess off (I personally wipe the models down with a sock or a rag or someshit) Just make sure there isn't excess shade on the model

Now it'll need to dry for a long while

Once it's dry, you might have enough of a brain to notice the model is way too shiny

Now you use the matt varnish

Let that dry (seriously if you fuck up at this point I don't even know why you're alive)

Congrats you have a mini/minis that don't look like fucking shit, or even worse are gray and just awful
>>
>>53222650
I think they are a little smaller than Tau suits. I got the impression they are more like terminator sized, with the wearer's arms and legs inside the suit limbs.

Their firepower is way more than crisis suits have though. Their missile launchers can wreck the shit out of entire city blocks.

Don't remember if they mention melee weapons, but I seem to recall a 'knife beam' which was used for close-in work. Or was that in the forever war?

ALETERNATIVE GUIDE TO EVEN BIGGER LAZY ASSHOLES

LISTEN UP YOU FUCKING GITS I know for a fact that the guide presented by this RIGHTEOUS anon works for your lazy fucks, but some of you are SO FUCKING LAZY you don't even got "army painter" or "matt varnish".

SO HERE'S AN EVEN SIMPLER FUCKING GUIDE for your LAZY GODDAMN ASSHOLES

You'll need:
>Brushes, I mean come on
>black primer
>black and white paints
>3 goddamn paints

Basecoat the model (how hard can this fucking BE. Remember to thin your paints. yes, even for the basecoat.)
Let it dry (FUCKING WAIT)
Paint it with your colors (you fucker better thin your fucking paints. If it doesn't cover the basecoat, apply another layer. Thin your paints. It's not just a meme.)
Let it try (WAIT)

Ok NOW

>Mix some black paint to one of the paints you painted the model. DO NOT THIN YOUR PAINTS - Or add just a little bit of water. Some paints are fucking nasty and need some water, while others are a bit more water-ry. Either way, don't go over board with water here.
>Drybush that shit nigga (http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/miniature_painting_drybrushing.html)
>LET IT DRY
(Alternatively, for very bright colors, you first mix it to be dark then use its regular pigmentation for the drybush. If you have something that is a bit too dark, mix it with white and use it's regular pigmentation for the drybush.)

There you go, now you know how to have passable shit and you didn't even need to google what the fuck an Army Painter is.

If you combine this tehcnique with what Original Angry Painter Anon said, congratulations you just become a painter, see you in a wip thread, fag.

We have no idea what will be viable because we haven't seen a whiff of points values yet for them. Even the sole points value we've seen (Tactical Marine) tells us nothing in isolation. If Gorkanauts right now cost 50 points, Orks would sweep tournaments. So really, until we have the rulebook in our hands, whilst it's fun to sling shit at each other about what will be viable or not, we honestly have no idea.

I was hesitant at first as well, but honestly they're changing so many things that it's dumb to think of the change in terms of how things were.

Besides, the really fast things that rely on it (Daemonettes, Howling Banshees, most likely Wyches) seem to have some mechanic for striking first anyway, but that's as far as it should go.

Dedicated hyper-speed CC units always striking first is fine if that's their gimmick. Every single Elf, even those who are in heavy armor with bulky ranged weapons doing so isn't.
>>
>>53224686
This is some good bait
>>
>>53225311
I wasn't sure about it at first either, but then I realized that in order to win at close combat you now gotta think about charging and in which order your units make their CC attacks.

Now the only decisionmaking involved is picking units with either as high initiative as possible, or being resilient enough to survive untill it can strike, and which unit you want to charge first.
>>
>>53225362
Yeah, the current system just has initiative as another stat that helps you kill things and not get killed in return in combat better.

With 8th, it makes charges more important, but adds in more potential counterplay and is gonna get rid of a lot of the annoying bits too it seems.

Personally, I'm excited for those Power Axe Slaanesh terminators I made when I was starting out to be less of a dumb idea.

>imperial guardsmen not being scared
>ever

Friendly reminder that they're the only faction to have a dedicated unit whose only purpose is to shoot them when they try to run away, because it's such a constant. IG are the dregs of the 40k universe, and are to the Imperium as Orks are to Xenos. NPCs who exist to die in droves to make the real heroes look better.
>>
So I have a stupid question that I'm sure got answered somewhere but I missed. If human emotions shape the warp and the creatures there, why don't positive emotions influence affect things over there more?
>>
>>53225593
Faction-specific Detachments will be the new Formations. Just watch.
>>
>>53225902
Because 99% of the galaxy is a horrible shitty violent traumatic place to live right now. The Imperium is the cruelest and most horrific totalitarian regime imaginable and casually commits atrocities on the daily that are worse than every horrible thing our real-life human civilizations have ever done combined.
>>
>>53225902
Because negative emotions conveniently affect the warp more that positive emotions. Somehow.
>>
>>53225932
>A galaxy at war is somehow more effective on influencing the warp than some guy being happy that the Arbites didn't put a bullet in his head today

>said the arrogant space marine too busy kissing his own ass to know how wrong he is on both of these statements.
>>
>>53225902
Because the Chaos gods have amassed enough power that they drown out any positive aspects of the warp.

Theoretically, there are random minor warp entities of positive emotions, but those tend to be pretty small and are killed off on a regular basis even as new ones form, so none of them get a chance to really do anything.
>>
>>53225902
Because the universe is fucked up. In old lore the Warp used to be more peaceful but because of the Necrons starting shit with the Old Ones it got all fucked up.

And then humans managed to form 3 out of the 4 main chaos gods all by themselves somehow.
>>
>>53225985

>>

They do. Khorne represents honour, Nurgle represents life and hope as well as death and despair, Slaanesh represents passion and Tzeentch represents strategy and forward thinking.
It's just that the negative emotions are more common and overpowering.
>>
>>53225902
>>53225985
Also, Chaos Gods feed off certain positive energies.
Ambition and Hope feed Tzeentch, and happiness is actually quite the fuel for Nurgle, since when you are feeling content and happy you tend to keep doing what you are doing AKA stagnate.

How can I do that when the only primers I can find are in cans?
Also, I was told not to use black primer if I wanted to paint some surfaces white. Is that true? Does the rest of the guide change if I use white primer?

most people use canned primers, but you can find them in a bottle, but i always assumed most people who use bottle primer have an airbrush. just can it and ignore that part, just dont soak your guy in spray. what are you painting? if its large enough, i use painters tape to mark off areas, so i prime, let dry, tape, and prime different color
>>
>>53226833
Maybe. That would fit with the fact that Gravcannons must also be cheaper now for Multimelta to be the most expensive at 27.

Still, for it to be half the cost it was, it makes me feel as though pistols won't be nearly as expensive as they were.

Personally, I do really want to see some more specifics, since I'm torn on whether to give my Assault Sergeant a power weapon, or go balls to the wall and slap 2 Plasma pistols on him
>>
>>53226857
I have a unit of 5 vanguard all with dual grav-pistols.

The idea was they deepstrike and kill something expensive. It rarely works but they look cool AF, and even opponents think it is a cool unit.

It would make zero sense for GW to hate on ANY army, and yet here we are.

The current grotesque state of balance isn't down to any master plan on the part of GW; it's purely a result of the individual likes and dislikes of the rules writers. If your army has a champion on the rules team, expect good rules. If you don't, then you get an Ork, Nid or CSM codex.

no one is perfect on their first model anon, its better then a lot of first timers, have you watched duncans videos on how to paint? they arent necessary, but watch how he thins his paints, he puts some paint on a pallet and dips his brush into water afew times. i know having to do multiple coats seems like a pain, but in the end it is worth the hassle.

also, you can totally just prime those shoulder pads seperate from the model white, and prime the model itself black
>>
>>53227118
White shoulder pads are hard to do. I'm making my marines with them, and I found out quickly that you really don't want to use a lot of paint.

Hell, you don't even really want to go with white. I'm doing a thin basecoat of Rakarth Flesh, then going over that with Pallid Wych Flesh.

Your detailwork looks quite good though. My hands are a bit shaky, so I have trouble with eyes and fine lines.
>>
>>53227118
What white are you using? Use celestra gray and then 2 thin coats of Ukthuan gray for white , the absolute white colors are for edge highlighting whites for the most part . Don't worry anon you'll get it eventually, we've all been shitty at painting before

>"Lol no one looks at displays"
>I then ask if I can use rules for XV84 crisis suit while using normal crisis suit model since xv84 discontinued
>"No forgeworld, that includes rules"
>But wasn't the problem the model itself, not the rules
>"No forgeworld"

>He cheats the whole game, pretending models are in range, not scattering deep strikers and store manager gets confused and states that instant death reduces fnp to a 6+ from a 5+
>After game, think to myself I'm never going back there
>Over the next 4 months I go to a slightly further store, like 30 minutes away, manager there is more chill, allows forgeworld but you gotta have rules
>Start a d-99 army since tempestus looked cool but played shit

white is the hardest color by far for new painters, it involves a process of painting various different colors and building up to white.

in fact I'm not even a newb but it's such a tedious and fuckup-prone color that I just spray a white prime and base coat on any model that will have large white parts, and then paint the rest, leaving the white revealed. then I paint washes into the recesses and touch up the white.

Notice how we cycle through shit memes on a regular basis here? I2 doesn't happen anymore, it's old and outdated, it gets replaced by something equally stupid like Fabius Bile the Titan Killer. We don't stick to outdated garbage, we move on to something new, and do so regularly. There is no attempt to maintain a memetic status quo, because there is no status quo. On reddit however people refuse to move on from unfunny outdated shit. They fail to understand the concept of a tired joke. This is why they're so detestable. "Instructions unclear, got dick stuck in X" is fucking ancient, it's incredibly unfunny, it's been done to death. This is what people mean when they tell you to fuck off to reddit, it means your jokes are shit, they're old, they're stupid. No one wants to hear them.

> Store manager is incapable of figuring out that all you need is competent anti-tank to counter a model that loses to a single immobilize result.
As someone who ordered 6 leviathans, this makes me chuckle. It's not like they're knights, 4 lascannons will EASILY disable a leviathan, or worse blow it up. Just bring 12 lascannons and you're good for dealing with 3 leviathans.. In fact, if you count the MANDATORY TECHMARINES needed to even bring 3 leviathans, your opponent has basically spent 1300 points on a measly 5 models, of which 3 are a 13/13/12 dreadnought.

The only thing that makes them really bad is when you pair them with the lucius pod, since it forces you to blow up the pod first. But at that point they're spending 390 points a model for the Leviathans, which is MORE THAN A KNIGHT. At the same time they're vastly less durable than a knight.

I understood that the firewarriors went in first with air/water caste support and when the area was secure the earth caste came in to build etc.
>>
>>53227720
depends on what you are painting.
Surfaces with lots of texture lend themselves to be washed all over. Stuff like fur for example.
Marine armor is smooth though, applying the wash all over is more likely than not going to end up looking somewhat splotchy and somewhat messy.

You can use the GW washes for tinting in that way, but then you have to pay extra attention to avoid pooling.

What would be a good next addition to this collection of Dark Angels that is likely to still be desirable in 8th?

>PA Chaplain

I am thinking maybe another tactical squad with a rhino. I like scouts, but I don't think the plastic scout models are really that good, and the armored assault box is a better value for the dollar.

It's different/dumbed down seems to be the common idea. Considering the bloat and bullshit I consider the latter more efficiency than dumbing down, but it's the complaint I keep seeing.

Then again one of those people who raged about dumbing down the game didn't realize that his 6th edition rules didn't apply in 7th and his assault marines shouldn't have gotten a free transport just because they didn't have a jump pack.

I think the local players are salty that they can't run their wolfstars or death guard like they do in 7th.

Well Magnus' rampage across the Fenris system was stopped by Logan Grimnar using his Daemon Axe of Khorne to have Khorne fuck over Magnus.

Other than that the Thousand Sons blew up a planet in the system and infested Fenris with so many Daemons the Grey Knights had to start killing off the population.

Oh and they drained the power of the world spirit of Fenris and used it to teleport Soritarius back to where Prospero was so now they have their old homeworld back.
>>
>>53228410
Technically it isn't, but they're clearly acting like it's a given that Games Workshop fucked up. Like they're just waiting that they can declare "yeah this is unplayable let's stay with 7th".

Don't forget the Skaven Bell rule, where you roll 2D6 with no modifiers and automatically win the game by rolling 13, but you get "accused" of "cheating" like a true Skaven.

the keeper of sectrets and the bribing one are good silly rules. the choice ultimately lies with the opponent and there is a good balance of risk reward in there.
bad silly rules are the ones where you just make an ass of yourself for a bonus, like pretending to ride a pony when rolling your dice , or coming up with an insult.
and then finally there are the unfair ones
the beard ones just offer a straight up advantage if you like a specific style of facial hair or you can make a mockery out of yourself and strap on a fake one. they're bad rules because they allow for external factors to influence the game, in the end you might still go up against a guy with a fucking long beard they're outside of either player's control. same with rules along the lines of "if you can see the sun" etc

This is the major problem with 40k right now, and it didn't help that most of the xenos and chaos factions sucked hard in 7th.

GW focused so much on the Imperium that in the end the game lacks bad guys to shoot at.
>>
>>53229389
if they're painted it's unlikely people will notice
as for your cultists , as long as they're majority gw you should be fine, when people ask about the bits just don't go loudly proclaiming they're 3rd party and advertising the website they're from within ear's reach of a redshirt. just say they're a conversion and leave it at that

That's a common misconception about Commissars. They aren't there to execute bumfuck guardsmen, that would be a waste of ammunition, they are there to execute cowardly commanders who either give premature retreat orders or who try to hide.

The job of killing cowardly guardsmen falls to sergeants, officers, other guardsmen and the indiscriminate fire of your enemies. But because a soldier killing their superior officer for cowardice is still insubordination, you need a group of guys who can blam them indiscriminately and put someone else in charge.
>>

Dark Angels were anything but bad, mostly because they had most of the elements that make vanilla marines good
They missed the grav centurion, but they had bikers that became almost untouchable unless you had ignore cover that could take grav guns

The Space Wolves are the ones mediocre, instead, since except for the Thunderwolves they didn't have a noticeable unit, and even them weren't that strong unless put in a deathstar with Librarius Conclave and the aforementioned Dark Angels bikers.
Then much later they received the Wulfen, that despite having 4chan sperging for a month about them didn't really change the SW power level that much
Then there is the barkstar that is, once again, only effective because of the alliance with the DA

That would be redundant. I think Farseers will innately improve CP because of the divination/Runes of fate-style faction strategems but their spells will still do the same things.

Is there a bigger heretical abomination in IoM than Guilliman?

actually trazyn probably has the oldest living (stasis) marines

A stasis-locked popsicle that was only very recently defrosted.

Yes but he'd also not be in the Imperium but rather Trazyn's collection now wouldn't he?

still a loyalist
>>
>>53230526
they all died on cadia tho
>>
>>53230526
The oldest living marine is still cypher. Can't get much older considering he's live through the last 10k years twice.
>>
>>53230596
Well, there are the Wulfens too
They are pretty mutated, but are very much still loyal and having spent the last 10k years in a place where time doesn't matter who knows how old they actually are

>If your army is Battle-forged by the current rules of Warhammer 40,000, it still can be in the new edition.

Why are they still telling this obvious lie? Formations are battle forged, so for this to be true you'd pretty much need to have an all fast attack, an all elite, and an all heavy support detachment. With no taxes.

NewFriend here, really interested in the lore of WH40K, where should i start? I was told by a friend to start with the Eisenhorn books

While it's true that this place isn't what it used to be, and there's been a generational shift to the same kind of folks that give reddit it's reputation, find me a better place to go and I'll be shocked.

You know a Riptide wing army in this edition probably won't be as big a deal given degrading statlines, rend and multi damage per shot weapons.
>>
>>53230651
Rulebook, pick the army that you like and read the shit out of their codex.
>>
>>53230692
Don't care about cheese, just want to field Eldar with Riptides.
>>
Tell me about some good 40k books. Already read Eisenhorn.

then after if you want the overarching lore in detail start with the horus heresy books
>>
>>53230718
You should try the books on the original novelization on Dawn of War.

There are a few creative liberties taken but it's an interesting take on the games with unique character interactions and a plot you won't believe.

>see eldar and riptides on a table
>psyker powers still don't work on other factions
>lack of markerlights
>BUY OUR NEW MODELS balance is out of effect, making them the same as anyone else
>ends up being a crappy army
>Taudar player [spiler]is just having fun with the dudes he likes, regardless of power levels[/spoiler]
I can roll with that.
