How do you people like your Superheavies? A lot of the ones with proper rules are based around one to four massive guns, but I like them with lots of relatively smaller ones, and prefer tanks and flyers to walkers.
Stormbird, Stormhammer and Manta all work quite well.
Titans seem to just be a little dull in terms of rules, honestly, since at best you've got eight guns, half of them piddly point-defence.
I prefer the Battlestar style, where you charge through the middle of a battle shooting death in all directions.

I used a knife to shave the shoulder pads, ankle guards, and pockets off, used a bit of greenstuff to smooth it out, then made a greenstuff scarf.
It's kinda grueling work but worth it in the end.

How long do games take, generally?
>spent most of my day yesterday painting skitarii at flgs
>two dudes show up late in the evening for a huge 3000 point throwdown
>one's Marines/IG; has a couple land raiders, three russes, a couple veteran squads, two fuckmassive guardsman blobs w/ commissars, and about 15 HWTs with lascannons
>other guy has a massive boner for 30k; dumped all of his points into a fuckmassive imperial tank formation
>including this baneblade-looking motherfucker with two minguns on the turret that can lay down 30 shots/round if it stays still
>13-14 armor on basically everything, and the formation makes everything but the superheavy fast
>game mode is ambush; guardsmen wins the roll and picks defender
>check back an hour or two later
>30k tonk team got its shit caved in by massed krak grenades
I'd always been under the impression that 2 hours was the average for even small, low-point games.
>>
>>53213726
Nah, they just took the old rules writers and put them on event planning instead.
>>
>>53213740

It's the doll pointers that are being told to fuck off, stupid. ;)
>>
>>53213742
2-3 hours yeah.

Unless you put all your points in a few baskets that suffer catastrophic explosions.
>>
Will 8th ed be pro or anti MSU? Splitfire for everyone reduces MSU effectiveness, but larger units are at a bigger risk of battleshock
>>
>>53213742
Just had a 3 hours long game of 1000 pts today. Is it normal ?
>>
>>53213663
Read the new Jain Zar book. It was really interesting. Even had a whole community of Eldar worshipping Slaanesh in a pretty interesting way which wasn't just the usual 'blood games and get high on killing motif'.
>>
>>53213769
Who are the new rules writers? Are they experienced game designers?
>>
>>53213786
That's kinda abnormal for 1k points. What armies?
>>
>>53213784
>larger units are at a bigger risk of battleshock
Because smaller units won't live long enough to roll for it?
>>
>>53213742
If that Stormlord (minigun Baneblade) was fully loaded and went down early that would probably contribute. D hits on 50 Transport Cap worth of 30k (already point-hungry) would really sting. What army was it?
>>
>>53213786
Are you learning the game?
It takes my group like 4 hours to play 2500 point 3 man free for all.
>>

>>
>>53213639
I thought stormhammers have little turrets like the other baneblade variants
>>
>>53213742
If you know your rules and the opponent knows his, the games go very fast.
But if you need to check the book every few seconds for rules then the games can take up to 5-6 hours on 2k.
>>
>>53213813
Actually the Orks only really show up in the last bit, they don't get fought much. Also they're pretty much wiping out the Ulthwe forces in the battle, the Eldar are just their to kill their leader and withdraw really.

Still as someone who likes Xenos I can understand the sentiment. I like the book because it has the Eldar in it, although I'll admit them killing Imperials would have been nicer, and I do hope for Orks getting some actual narrative wins eventually.
>>
>>53213808
Yes. The damage of battleshock is mitigated. Less models to die from it.
>>
>>53213816
If you mean the sponsons, the old one did but the FW model has the bunker gunslits in the side with Multilasers/Hbolters/Lascannon mounted. It won't exactly Hellhammer it's way through everything, but it's very good at punishing MSU.

I think he said it was 40 cap, but about half of them could shoot out the hatch. If it helps identify it, it seemed to have a fixed casemate for the primary guns (so sorry for calling it a turret).

I'm not sure what the army was exactly (since I know basically nothing about 30k), so I going to guess solar auxilla offhand

>>53213823
Makes sense. I'm currently shooting for a 500-point build (dominus maniple with a sprinkling of wargear plus a absolute minimum value skitarii maniple of 2 5-man vanguard squads), so I can expect games to take about an hour, assuming that whoever's teaching me to play is competent and doesn't instantly table me? planning to get ironstriders next, since they're aesthetic as fuck and I'm lead to believe quite strong

Yeah, that's a Stormlord. Even if he just maxed out the Firing Slots that's about 600 points, and putting anything more dangerous than Guardsmen in there would probably be nearly a thousand. That would REALLY shorten the game if it went down to, say, a massive volley of Tank Hunting Lascannon early on.

Did he have any of pic related? If yes, Solar Auxilia. If he had a train-thing with tracks Mechanicum, if not either probably Marines. SA are rare and really dangerous, my Mechanicum tend to dominate if I go full cheese and they can easily match me there.

Ironstriders... Dragoons are superb with Lances, I have two and love them. Your build is pretty similar to mine, actually, and Skitarii are really mean at low points.

Fuck, yeah, marines then, since I can finally more or less remember his comp. Three Sicarians (one of which was his warlord), two predators, two rhinos, the stormlord, and a land raider with one of the same sort of minigun, if I'm recalling correctly.

Also, can someone redpill me on Mechanicum? This dude started gushing about how strong they are in 30k after he saw my skitarii; apparently they have, among other things, Kastellan Robots on steroids, melee techpriest squads, and some sort of super-heavy wave motion gun that slides a pie plate across the table, and everything within the beam essentially has to make an invulnerable save or die (it's S10 against vehicles and ignores cover)

The tau sent an expansion fleet directly into the largest warpstorm the galaxy has ever seen?
>>
>>53214200
Not really seeing the problem. Every faction in the game can launch giant invasions right after failed giant invasions. Its never been stated explicitly that when an Expansion Wave is called it drains so much taupower that they can't launch another one right after it.

That and we don't know if there's been a timeskip.
>>
"Every rule book day one" aka half of the ones existing bastardized into a select few
>>
>>53213639

I love the stormhammers aesthetic considering it is supposed to bull its way into the enemy and open up on all sides but i like my titan maniple a lot more - warlord walks forwards with 2 warhounds ahead and 1 behind, everything dies. It may only be eight guns but when the main ones are each capable of wiping a board square its not as big a problem as you might think. The warlord goes around with the belicosa, laser blasters and sunfury while the warhounds have mega boltersand plasma blastguns. If something does survive the shooting then you run into them with the D - consideirng if you get a good roll you get to put down 3 large blasts within 15"/21" of the start point it goes pretty well.

>not that I get to do that more than once a year because points and no ones insane enough to play it
>>
>>53214217
No, all of them.
>>
>>53214214
>Every faction in the game can launch giant invasions right after failed giant invasions.

That's because most factions in the game are galaxy-spanning in number.
>>
>>53214200
With any luck the Tau sent most of their riptides with the 4th expansion.
>>
>>53214181
so what "time" is it in lore right now? I refuse to believe that we're still in 999.M41 if the Tau had enough time to launch another army after losing the previous one
look, I hate it when people bring up the word weeb despite being one myself, but the number four being practically skipped is a pretty funny coincidence
>>
>>53214230
Them being larger doesn't mean the Tau can't also do it. Consider the Tau's 'major invasions' they can send multiples of are obviously smaller than the ones sent by the other factions.

But since its never been explicitly stated that a Wave automatically uses all resources to the limit in the Empire them being smaller does not automatically equate to not being able to send multiple of what is, for them, 'major invasions' shortly in a row. Its pretty simple logic.
>>
>>53214198
>>53214200
The problem is that this ties into those rumors of a new faction appearing later this year. Say hello to the first hints at actual canon chaos Tau. Coulda gotten some fucking auxiliaries, but no. We get this shit instead.

There won't be chaos Tau, don't be daft. This is clearly a setup to enable GW to drop Tau into any warzone or campaign book across the galaxy. The lore about explosion that set the gulf aflame said that Tau were shocked and were sent reeling from this disaster. Millions upon millions have died. All death and carnage weighting heavily on them. Also we were led to believe that the Firestorm would burn for a long long time. That was the point about making it in the first place. Isolating the Tau from the Imperium so that the Imperium can focus on the bigger threats. This led the Tau to stop the Third Sphere Expansion and any expansion in the near future as they lick their wounds.

So the Tau in, LESS THAN A YEAR perhaps in a few months, recovered and launched not one BUT TWO Expansion sphere phases. Where did they get those numbers? Why did the firestorm go away?
>>
>>53214336

There won't be Chaos Tau. Don't get your hopes up, anon.

This is blatantly just an attempt to broaden the Tau's potential for involvement on the galactic stage. Lord help us all.

This shit has become sort of a superstition over there, like how some buildings skip the 13th floor, and some assholes in western civilizations throw salt over their should or read horoscopes.

It's the reason why many Japanese videogames where you fight Death, such as Castlevania, give him 4444 HP or attack.

So the Weeb faction Tau having their 4th Sphere Fleet outright die further cements them as weeb.

Yes? It's just making people in Real Space have a hard time using the Warp. In the Warp, they cannot protect themselves, from well, the Warp or the daemons because the Tyranids have no means to cut either from their font of power. Tyranids in real space can barely handle properly fed daemons.

>>53214795

Yeah, with Marines that's a 750 pt box MINIMUM, probably over a thousand plus medics.
The Raider was an Achilles, they shoot four S5 Shred small blasts that can be upgraded to S5 AP3 Poisoned 3+. Nasty.

As for the Mech, they're basically everything you want out of a Mechanicus army. Awesome models, amazing rules and loads of flavour with all the different Magos types. You can do literally any army build well and thanks to glorious FW rules loopholes we can take literally any superheavy flyer and give it Tank Hunters, IWND and a plethora of other buffs, and do the same to a whole bunch of Imperial SH tanks.

>>53214220

I do see your point, although Reavers are my favourite Titan. Thing is, I always imagine Superheavies as unstoppable linebreaking fortresses, Titans like that are either scouts or MASSIVE artillery, same as Ordinatii. It's why my Superheavy of choice is a custom Mechanicum Stormbird, I can drop an entire battlegroup somewhere nasty raining fire from thirteen guns at once and dropping Orbital Strikes on anything remotely dangerous. Also fits with my army being fleet-based. Sadly never got to use it because we have shitty 4x4 boards at the GW only and its landing pad doesn't fit in the Deployment Zones.

Anyone ever thrown up ANYTHING that provided a challenge to four Titans? If they've got four Titan's worth of army behind them that would be fucking awesome to put my dream Mech list against. Hint, it involves two Mantas loaded to the gills.

>When the entire buildup of tau is the aftermath of thier empires greatest commander, Farsight, going renegade ever since he wielded a demonsword.
>Now the expansion fleet he was supposed to have just goes into the rift.
>In the age where a warp rift the length of a galaxy exists and there is a new minor chaos god ready for some minions.

The question is, if chaos tau is a thing. How will they be corrupted. I'm presuming it's thier own a.i. succumbs to it, since the tau codexs have been implying that the a.i. used is so invasive that thier own soldiers begin to personify it and treat it as real people.

A warlord is a line breaker, it walks forwards erasing anything that gets in the way and if they do somehow manage to destroy it the table experiences china syndrome. No one's managed to beat it yet, the closest was against a reaver, warhound and a bunch of those sicaran venator superheavy-killing things - they took the warlords shields down and managed to shake it so the only thing that could fire was its defensive weapons but they'd dedicated everything to it so the warhounds chewed all the tanks and the reavers voids up and the warlord recovered and fucked the reaver in a single turn of shooting.

So true. Space Marines and Herohammer are somehow still relevant, and Admech don't drown their enemies in a million Grav weapons and orbital strikes as a matter of course. Seriously, an ENTIRE PLANET of industry down to a few dozen layers is a truly insane manufacturing capacity, I'm surprised they don't run the Imperium already through sheer material importance.

>>53214943

Yeah, the rules on that are a little insane. Personally I'd aim for the Warhounds first and use a bunch of Void Shield Generators, just to deflect the worst of the D barrages if I'm lucky. Haywire Secutarii drops kill Void Shields like nothing else, then a barrage of Krios Venators and such.
Still, basically impossible to bring down without another Titan maniple or seriously large numbers of fortifications covering SicVees.

Sooooo, the real question is... Who was leading the 4th Sphere, and who was leading the 5th?

It'd make a lot of sense for Shadowsun to lead 4th. But then she'd be missing and we'd have a new commander.

On the other hand, maybe she was "shamed" and refrozen following the close of the 3rd sphere expansion, our mysterious 3rd Student of Puretide was tapped, and then when he vanished with the 4th sphere, they embarrassingly reanimated Shadowsun and said, "Congrats on command of the 5th!"

Puretide had four students.

Farsight (the bestest)
Shadowsun (The sneakist)
Kais (The emo-loner)
Coldwind (The mysterious void fighter).

Farsight went Awol.
Shadowsun and Kais led the TSE but Shadowsun was the chief commander. Kais likes the role of the monat more than the role of a leader anyways.

Coldwind appeared once in the fluff (Star of Damocles) and never again. They might never bring him back.

Okay you got bamboozled or he didn't read the Codex properly, Aspring Sorcerer's do know 2 spells, all Tzeentch Sorcerer's know an extra spell but the extra one is always the Tzeentch primaris rather than the primaris of the discipline they rolled all their spell on.
And also despite the Thousand Sons having access to 11 different disciplines, they all have to roll at least 1 power on Tzeentch so Aspiring Sorcerer's have to roll their only power on Tzeentch.

Tzeentch Sorcs know four spells in total. He had two sorcerer HQs, one unit of scarabs and three units of rubrics with a vindicator and a maulerfiend.
Basically his HQs ruined my tanks by casting three powers per turn, each of which caused haywire, then his rubrics cast the tzeentch powers to kill my veterans and his scarabs/remaining rubrics kept repairing his immobilized Maulerfiend or vindicator.
Then in the shooting phase the vindicator chipped off more hull points or caused explosions while he used some "silver tower" shooting attack in the first turn to rape off more hull points while the rest of his units just killed off more veterans.
Like on the first turn he destroyed a veteran squad with three plasmas hiding in a chimera, stunned a leman russ so it couldn't fire and chipped off hull points from another chimera. On my turn my Leman Russes killed one Rubric marine on average, while most of my other stuff was busy just holding the maulerfiend back.

It really wasn't an abomination, although I suppose differing tastes do simply exist.

It was nice to see Slaanesh represented in a broader spectrum, rather than just murder-porn, and also having its relationship with the Eldar expanded to being pseudo-parental.

But I mean make your own decision, obviously.
>>
>>53215531

It's quite interesting actually. They meet a group of Eldar, a planet with connections to a few Webway subrealms, who use 'Harmony Stones' to stay in constant telepathic contact with each other. However, this contact means they're essentially gestalt constantly, they have no privacy, and are obsessed with 'Conformation'.

But they come across as huge hippies, they're obsessed with love and the power of their bonds and we find out that when pirates or stuff arrive they just forcibly use the harmony stones to convert them all into fellow love zombies. They also actively worship Slaanesh as their Goddess, who they believe wants to share her love with all Eldar.

They try to convert a young Asurmen and Jain Zar too but they're immune due to possessing Spirit Stones.

>>53215683
Yes. It is actually a strangely touching scene.

They initially are fighting each other, which is cool in of itself to imagine (also this Avatar comes with a sickass Cape and wields the Wailing Doom in Spear form) but by the end their just having an ideological argument in which, literally, the Avatar kneels so it can place a hand on Jain's shoulder, pulling her closer so their crests touch, and they argue over the future of the Eldar as a people.

Favourite line is, after Jain Zar says she'll win without him, he just goes; 'When you win remember to thank your Father'.
>>
>>53215666
Ah, I see, no its before any of that.

In fact this Book tries to once again make a big deal out of the fact that Asurmen did not just found the Aspect Shrines but also played a role in creating the entire Path System of the Craftworlds.

Curiously a Keeper of Secrets refers to Asurmen as 'the Great Denier' when trying to convince Jain Zar that Asurmen isn't worthy of her. The idea seems to be that Asurmen heavily combated and prevented Slaanesh's ability of converting the Eldar into worshippers.

Sounds like he based it on the original Avatar of Khaine model (pic related)

That's actually really clever, that model was only a bit bigger than an eldar, so it would make sense that it would take that form when conversing with her. It would also make it able to kneel and touch crests with her.

Good use of an old model style.

Khaine has many aspects, hence the many aspect warriors. He can be a wanton destroyer (Fire Dragons), but he can also be a noble defender (Dire Avengers).

He did fly into a rage and want to wipe out the eldar at one point yes, but that was because one of the other gods (I can't remember if it was Morai-Heg or Lileath) foretold that they would be his downfall. She was right in the end, what with the fall and his subsequent shattering.

On the other hand he also fought for them in the War in Heaven and still fights for them now as Avatars. He's spiteful and capricious and murderous, but it works both ways.

You're confusing Fantasy Khaine with 40k Khaine.

And even then 40k Khaine is still largely an asshole. Why do you think him and Jain are even fighting? He wants to go killing regardless of consequence, getting tons of Eldar killed, and she's telling him to go the fuck back to sleep.

He does have a soft spot for the Asurya, clearly, he considers them not 'Eldar' but instead his own children and thus worth more consideration.

Her climatic realization, before she slays Nkari, is that she cannot snuff out the ember of Khaine inside of herself but, instead, must make it a fire she can control inside of herself.

She is however, clearly more torn than the other Asurya, as part of incarnating Morai-Hag as well, bringing up the relationship between the two, where Morai sent her daughters by Khaine, the Harpies, to torment him.

But the two are still clearly close, as shown when Jain touches heads with him and implores him to sleep.

>Here was opportunity instead. Naidazaar’s greed, his overpowering desire to possess her, left him vulnerable. While she amused him with the most gratuitous scenes of slaying she could recall, Jain Zar followed the tendrils back to their roots, teasing herself along their lines until she met with the thoughts of Naidazaar.

>In the instant of contact she was struck by a counter-surge of images from the past of the archon– sickening scenes of defilement, torture and execution. She pushed through waves of stolen torment, devoured terror and grief-thirst and into the older memories of Naidazaar.

>She found what she was looking for bound beneath layers of pain and redirected rage.

>With a triumphant flash of power, Jain Zar tore open the archon’s memory vaults and plunged his consciousness into the worst nightmares of his childhood.

>She felt the internal scream building within him as he was forced to confront his own degradation and physical torture at the hands of those that passed him around like a possession. Even he, heir to a grand kabal, born into one of the noblest families of the Dark City, was a plaything for his betters.

Everyone states their stuff is the strongest in their own codexes though
They're kinda like propaganda pamphlets for each faction aren't they
>>
>>53217667
Nope, all main rulebooks since 3th ED and including 7th ED says the Chaos Gods are the most powerful and dangerous.

And your quote doesn't say that Gork and Mork are the most powerful. So you are a lying piece of shit.
>>
>>53217697
In some things, but not all

The chaos gods have never been said to be stronger than the ork gods

The ork gods have been said to be stronger than all other gods

Until something says otherwise, we have to assume that to be the case
>>
"Gork and Mork are divine powerhouses, deities so strong they are never truly defeated. They simply shrug off the attacks of other gods with a raucous laugh. Gork grins, bares his long teeth, and lands a mighty blow on his adversary’s head with a spiked club the size of a comet. Mork, always the sneaky one, waits until his foe isn’t looking before clobbering him with a low blow."

That's pretty much exactly what it says you dumb fuck

Nope, not all codexes. In their codex, Gork and Mork are being swarmed by daemons and their only recourse is to have Ghaz summon them to real space in order to thwart the Chaos Gods plans.

On a related note, Archaon in AoS defeated both Gork and Mork in combat and sent them fleeing. Perhaps this why they were never truly defeated. They leg it whenever someone beats their green asses.
>>
>>53214546
Thats how they start
>>
>>53217714
You are an idiot. The main rulebook says that the Chaos Gods are the most powerful and dangerous in the Warp. Gork and Mork exist in the Warp. This means they are weaker than the Chaos Gods. That quote does not mention Gork and Mork being stronger than the Chaos Gods

So your assumption is that of a moron.

>>53217725
Where does it mention the Chaos Gods? Nowhere. Where does it mention they are stronger? nowhere.

The Warp is filled with more gods than simply the Chaos Gods.
>>
>>53217735
What? Where in their Codex are Gork and Mork being overwhelmed and need to get summoned in to Real space? This seems like a pretty HUGE piece of Fluff I've never seen anyone ever mention.

Also in Fantasy Archaon never fought Mork or Gork, he only fought Gork's incarnation within Grimgor, and even then both Gods survived and respawned again anyway. Not to mention Fantasy and 40k are separate continuities.

I wonder if the Tau will finally have Nicassar or Kroot Shamans among their troops.

all i'm saying about ending FREE SUMMONING is this: as a casual fag whenever I took CSM free summoning kept me from getting tabled turn 3. It actually helped me win games without having to abuse CSM hyper competitive netlists-- I could just take a level 3 deamon prince and a sorcerer and reliably spawn a free unit of plague bearers or daemonettes, as all my shit was getting nuked in the shooting phase and never making it to close combat. free summoning was the shit and I'm sad af to see it go

>Fantasy Archaon never fought Mork or Gork,

I am talking about AoS where Archain indeed fought Gork and Mork defeating the two gods and sending them to flight. Funny thing is that the exact line here >>53217725 was stated in fantasy and yet in the End Times and AoS the Greenkin Gods met defeat and shame.
>>
>>53217768
>Deities so strong they are never truly defeated
>They simply shrug off the attacks of other gods
Since there's no specific denomination of which gods are being refered to it implies all gods.

Seriously this isn't tough. That paragraph literally states they can't suffer any lasting defeats.

God Powerlevels are nebulous though so I won't go so far as to assert they are stronger, but asserting the Chaos Gods are stronger is as fallacious.
>>
Most of the fluff is completely irrelevant, the setting can now be summarised as; the gods are infinite across infinite realities and chaos wins no matter what.
>>
>>53217799
>Nicassar

These guys do not fight in ground wars. Their bodies are not suited to it.
>>
>>53217805
I do not recall Archaon fighting Gorkamorka once in AoS, can you link the fight?

Furthermore, again, AoS is not 40k.

Also I still wanna know where Gork and Mork are being overwhelmed by Daemons and need Ghazz to summon them, this is an ENORMOUS Fluff development but I've seen no-one mention it till now.

I'm sure we can fix it with some mecha-armor and antigrav.
>>

The general idea of the next edition is that you no longer need free summmons in order to avoid being massacred before turn 4.

Even with summons costing points, it's still rather potent. It basically allows you to list-tailor once the game started : need more melee troops ? Summon some khorne or slaanesh units. Need more psychic firepower ? Tzeentch daemons and there you go. Some objective campers that just will not die ? Nurgle daemons got you covered.

I wish there was more fluff on the Phoenix Lords, they're actually really cool.
