Hello, fa/tg/uys, i'm thinking about making a military RPG setting (you could say sorta inspired by MGS Private military companies) , with heavy use of modern firearm combat and all that jazz. What TRPG should i use for it
tl;dr i want an RPG system that allows me to have full on firefights and fits into a military setting

Do you want action-movie, pulpy kind of firefights?
Or do you want something closer to realistic?

As newbie GM i think realism would be too much for me.

Savage Worlds then. Really freaking simple to learn and run - even if all your players absolutely refuse to read the book for themselves. And things will be akin to action-movie goodness.

Thanks, man gonna take a good reading into it when i can.
>pulp over realism
>but include guns
>1960s - 2020ish setting
That's a bit tricky. Let me drop some PDFs to page through. Savage Worlds is not bad, but nothing gets worse with alternate options.
GRUNT is vietnam era. It's about as complicated as D&D, but pushed to be more narrative without delving into the STORY ONLY side of things like the Fate system.
Skip to page 21 for the example with traps if you want a good sample of the system.

Recon is similar to GRUNT, but more rules heavy. This also means more options however.
It's a bit of a pain to read though, but it's worthwhile for the purpose of pulling elements into GRUNT as needed.
It's got a bit of a mercenary vibe to it, not unlike the Jagged Alliance games if you ever played those.

here's the PDF.
These are all a bit more on the realism side of things, but hey, more options don't hurt.

Then there's SHELLSHOCK, a system based on a single mechanic.
As they say, "There are no rules covering the soldier's equipment. Weapons, ammo, rations... Use common sense. SHELLSHOCK is about the soldiers, not their stuff."
Use accordingly. I tapped into this while doing Only War with a 40k group, as the basic Sanity and Corruption mechanic didn't have much nuance.
I don't know that it's worth playing alone.

Man, i couldn't ask for more, i'm off to hit those PDFs. Thank you again, that's some great help.

I've been looking through grunt and recon rules, is there any adaptations i should make if i put my guys through an urban combat scenario?
