Frankly? She feels like a lame excuse to get some fat anime tits into a game about Heart of Darkness, what sort of invented organization is the Scales of Mourning and how are they semi-mortal badasses that Akane could join if she... What, finds a ruin? What I'm saying here is the backstory don't make sense, it hardly fits the lore and her personality comes across as that of a pouty child, which works for some characters but I don't think it will be fun for something like this.

>>
>>53209553
We talked it out with Vult a while.
When you're corrupted, you're given all the slots without knowing what they do, and you have to choose five.
It's a gamble.
However, slots overwrite, so if you get a disadvantage then you can pick it again next time to 're-roll' it.

Also, there will be ways to transfer mutations between party members so in a weird way it's sort of like dividing up random loot to whoever gets the best use of it.
whether transfers have to always be lewd is yet to be revealed

>>
>>53209692

I like the idea of gambling for the slots, I'm glad I didn't apply since I don't want to play in a misery simulator. But PLD seems to be delivering the promised idea to the players, Vult even if he is a whiner seems dedicated to his fetish game
>>
>>53209488
>>53209611

Some of these bonuses are far more powerful than others. +2 Strength for carrying capacity is trivial, especially when it denies feet slot items. Anything that grants an ability score bonus, meanwhile, is golden.

It seems like a much more sensible way to handle a corruption mechanic is for the player to plan out in advance what the mechanical bonuses and penalties of their mutations will be, write down a wish list and a no-go list of corruption flavors (e.g. "I would like my character to have mostly furry mammalian augmentations, and nothing insectile"), and leave the precise flavor of the mutations to the GM. The GM would also be free to determine the order in which the corruptions are acquired.
>>
>>53209723
I think part of the intention is that you don't get exactly what you want mechanically and you have to reroll and trade until you do.
>>
>>53209692
Once again, seems like something that favors casters.

Martials can get fucked over my mutations that ruin ability to use certain gear, while most casters can just keep on casting. Typical /pfg/ horseshit.

Pathfinder's math is fucked but if you know what you're doing it does work with the rest of the fucked systems. This is worse than the default no matter how you slice it, but a DM is going to make adjustments no matter what you're using.

It's okay in the sense that it's not complete trash and it probably works for the game. I would never want to play with it though, and I don't think there's a way to make the concept "good".
>>
>>53209739
I mean you can just include mutations that fuck with castery stuff like inability to speak properly or make decent hand gestures.
>>
>>53209723
Anon, some transformations being better than others is precisely the point.
>>

Leaving each character's wealth-by-level progression to random rolls of the dice is a horrendous idea, in the same way that having a character's feats be determined randomly is bad.

Even loot tables allow the party to freely mix and match equipment, sell off what they do not need, purchase gear, and so on.
>>
>>53209832
Functional. CRs and entries are balanced around certain assumptions about gear, I don't know the in-depths of this homebrew but from what's visible of it, it seems likely that things would fall apart going forward either for bonuses not being enough in the right directions or for things like extra WPL or pushed mutations bending the game over backwards.

I don't really blame the homebrew so much as I blame Pathfinder, gear and equivalents are the wonkiest thing to work out in the system.
>>
>>53209879
>>53209723

>>
>>53209879
>Even loot tables allow the party to freely mix and match equipment, sell off what they do not need, purchase gear, and so on.

But... that's also what this system does.
The fact the party can transfer mutations between themselves is what makes it functional.
>>
>>53209879
You say "random rolls of the dice", but don't forget. They're not random. The DM is writing these as they happen. The majority of them are going to be good for the player. They're only level 3 right now, of course they're not going to get powerful class upgrades yet.
>>
>>53209879
How do I get spider legs?
>>
If your character was shaped mainly by one parent, what was the other one like?

Were they a house-husband where your mother was the bread-winner? A sorceress where your father was a warrior? If they weren't around, why?

And if they weren't around, how would your character have changed if they'd been a presence in their life?
>>
>>53209905
>>53209907

From what I understand, the trades are highly limited.

To expound on this, if the mutations are supposed to replace wealth-by-level, then it might be interesting for them to *actually* be reflavored loot tables.

Characters would be able to freely mix and max mutations with one another, "sell" mutations they do not need, "purchase" new mutations, and so on.

A belt of incredible dexterity +2 could be a nekomimi mutation, associated with the belt chakra. Characters could freely pass it around themselves as needed. They could sell it off for 2,000 "corruption points" if necessary, or they could purchase a new one for 4,000 "corruption points."
>>
>>53209940
He doesn't know who his parents were...nor does he really care.
>>
>>53209943
How the hell do you "pass" around a physical mutation?
>>
>>53209940
He'd probably be a lot more stoic if he had a strong male father figure in his life.
>>
>>53209943
This does bring up a different issue though, if the system is too close to standard wealth then there wasn't much point to it in the first place.

I really don't think the concepts here can be worked out well. If it's functional for the game then whatever, all power to them, but it seems to me that some evolving template beside an adjusted WPL would've worked better.
>>
>>53209943
Speaking as a player, I joined the game because it sounded kind of fun to have random mutations, and I assumed the DM to make them work without kneecapping the character. After playing for a while, I'm pretty comfortable with the fact that Vult will adjust anything that makes our characters not function or is otherwise just not fun. The thing to remember is that this is not a finalized system, it's an in-progress homebrew by a DM who's more used to 5e, where everything already requires constant GM attention anyway.

>>53209964
The same way you got it. It's an artifact of corruption. You can rid yourself of corruption by passing it on to someone else in an act of passion.
>>
>>53209940
Father was dead. Or at least, that's what Mother always said.
>>
>>53209964

In whatever way the GM deems appropriate for the campaign.

>>53209985

It would certainly be viable to have mutations be something similar to mythic tiers, yes. That would take a fair deal of homebrewing work.
>>
>>53209940
If he'd had his *real* father around?
He might actually have turned out a worse person, because he'd have had a lot more of a rosy perspective on the way things are. Practically Jon Snow-esque in his beliefs.

Knowing that his father was scum who left mom in the lurch when he saw their child hasn't helped, of course, but it left him more open to question authority.
>>
>>53209943
>it's an in-progress homebrew by a DM who's more used to 5e
>who's more used to 5e

Normal flurry for a monk of your level, plus two claw attacks.
You can't make claw attacks as part of the flurry attacks, only unarmed strikes and monk weapon attacks.
>>
>>53210165
Like he needs someone to rein him in. At the very least, a professional fool to keep his ego from getting too big.
>>
>>53210172
Claws count as unarmed strikes.

“Armed” Unarmed Attacks: Sometimes a character’s or creature’s unarmed attack counts as an armed attack. A monk, a character with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, a spellcaster delivering a touch attack spell, and a creature with natural physical weapons all count as being armed (see natural attacks).
>>
>>53210143

>At 1st level, a monk can make a flurry of blows as a full-attack action.

>When using this ability, the monk can make these attacks with any combination of his unarmed strikes and weapons that have the monk special weapon quality.

A flurry is its own attack action, you cannot gain stack flurry and naturals. Paizo devs have ruled on it too if you're a PFS guy.

It works with Feral Combat Training if you want to flurry with one particularly strong natural though
>>
>>53210182
Natural weapons do not count as unarmed strikes
>>
>>53210182
The text you cited does not support your position. It states that natural weapons are weapons, not that natural weapons are unarmed strikes.
>>
>>53210182
No, natural weapons are not unarmed strikes, thats why feral training for flurrying with them is a thing
>>
>>53210173
Then find someone to hold the reins.
>>
>>53210143
>>53210182

If your DM is letting you stack naturals and flurry attacks you should run very far away from that game
>>
>>53210143
Like an ordinary flurry of blows with no additional attacks from your claws.

>He takes no penalty for using multiple weapons when making a flurry of blows, but he does not gain any additional attacks beyond what’s already granted by the flurry for doing so.
>but he does not gain any additional attacks beyond what’s already granted by the flurry for doing so

If you have Feral Combat Training you can use the claws as part of the flurry. You can even use the same claw repeatedly in that flurry for all attacks in the flurry. But you do not get secondary natural attacks as part of a flurry blows. Not in house, not with a mouse, not in a box, not with a fox. No.

Should have just had it carry or throw the sword across the battlefield. Keeping him from picking it back up is one thing. Crippling your player on a long-term basis is another.

And really, the mage should have been more worried about keeping the PC distracted so he wasn't fucking murdered than screwing over the PC at the risk to his own life.

The player was given a backup tool just about as powerful moments prior to that, so everything's fine.

It just was the poor goblin's goblin-hero sword they won fair and square killing their leader so it has sentimental value to the character.

Alternatively this could be a useful teaching tool for the player to not make such foolish decisions in the future. He'll likely get it back eventually, and until then he has to live with the shame of the backup sword.

Generally, if you have to ask, the answer is yes.

And what do you know, it absolutely was.

If you wanted to steal your player's weapon in an encounter, make an encounter with a thief who's looting their camp or somebody who is known for literally stealing people's shit mid-melee.

But just randomly dicking your player over like that is kind of really uncool.
>Buh-but I gave him a replacement sword! It even has sentimental value because whatever fucking bullshit contrivance.
I imagine he had a sentimental connection to the sword he spent all his hard-earned money on too. Besides, if you were going to dick him out of his weapon, and give him something roughly equivalent to compensate, why bother stealing it in the first place?

I get the feeling it was just some opportunistic bullshit just so you could essentially force the PC to use the sword he picked up instead of just carrying it around to sell at the nearest big town.

You're kind of pathetic, Anon.

The sword he lost is the one with sentimental value, modifying and upgrading it painstakingly himself.

The sword he got that's roughly an equivalent is a rando sword he got from one of the bigger bads, which is meant to be worthless (sentimentally)

I told him twice, 'Are you sure you want to drop your sword in the middle of a battlefield when you're surrounded by people', and he said yes.

Iunno, I tried to warn him, but he still went for it. I just didn't think he'd do it considering how much of a warning I gave him.

Earlier, I had run my second session of a Spheres of Might playtest game. There was actual combat this time, even if it was just one very quick battle. Apparently, I plan my playtest games so poorly that I spend more time faffing about with pure roleplaying scenes and noncombat challenges, like three-fourths of the party being charmed by a crossdressing kitsune boy. I allowed the players to edit their sheets after the fiascos of the last session ( https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/52967210/#52967443 ), including shelling out for a lantern of revealing auras.

Before the session, three out of four players had expressed a total loss of interest in Spheres of Might. They each had their own gripes, but the long and short of it was that they had lost their faith in the product's mechanical integrity. They all played with me nevertheless, for their own individual reasons.

The characters were as follows:

• Sumi, the human blacksmith 5: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1la4qB3GxxPrQ8FMPnNvu0aoooEMu3YdtbIV57Se8wBQ/edit
Sumi is a cute battle tailor.
Sumi specializes in killing people with Oversized Weapons nodachis. She deals massive damage with a Furious Focus'd Brutal Strike exertion while expending martial focus, then trivially regains focus using either Savage or Focusing Connection. She also buffs the entire party's manufactured weapon damage rolls by +4. This is what she does every single round. Passive and off-turn talents carry her defensively.

• Sylvia, the human armiger 5: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1T6SIEYl8nT9Rtw-RDn78sdoPJME5t-vHHMHpRjOp-5U/edit
Sylvia is a cute battle maid.
Sylvia specializes in killing people with an Oversized Weapons nodachi. She deals massive damage with a Furious Focus'd Brutal Strike exertion while expending martial focus, follows up with a rapid assault for a second attack (a.k.a. fake full attack), and trivially regains focus using either focusing switch or Focusing Connection. This is what she does every single round. Passive and off-turn effects talents carry her defensively.

• Linle, the human conscript 3/alchemist (mortal chemist, tinkerer) 1/cavalier (blooded knight) 1: https://pastebin.com/m5RctJza (plus a sheet for combat calculations that I do not have on hand)
Linle is a cute sheepgirl human.
Linle specializes in killing people with Improved Acid Flasks. She deals massive damage with Cluster Toss'd Improved Acid Flasks that benefit from a Craft result of 45, Intelligence to damage on each, and the party blacksmith's sharpen weapons. She need only target a grid intersection's static AC 5, and offers enemies no saving throws. She expends martial focus, but trivially regains focus using either Savage or Focusing Connection. This is what she does every single round. Passive and off-turn talents carry her defensively.
Linle is by far the most powerful character in the entire party, no contest. She needs only hit AC 5 regardless of the enemy, she deals absurd damage that lingers the next round, she doles out partially-party-friendly AoEs, and she is in full plate and a tower shield. She also has the most noncombat utility due to her Intelligence.
>>
>>53212263

• Jacobo, the human gunslinger (gunfighter) 5: https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1190617
Jacobo is a cute soldier boy.
Jacobo specializes in killing people with Oversized Weapons pistols. He deals massive damage with a Barrage, Dual Wielding, Impossible Reload, Crushing Combo while expending martial focus, and trivially regains focus using Focusing Combo. (Thank goodness for ranged touch attacks with Dexterity to damage and no misfire!) This is what he does every single round. He had no budget for passive and off-turn effects, so he is screwed if anyone attacks him. It does not help that he is the only party member not in full plate, and two other party members have a heavy shield and a tower shield, so he is all the more tempting a target in contrast.

You might notice a few common themes across these characters.

• They are all very good at killing people. Why should a spheremighter bother with debuffing/control talents that must contend with CMD or saving throws? They can instead obliterate enemies outright with things like Equipment's Oversized Weapons, Berserking's Brutal Strike, Dual Wielding's Crushing Combo, and Alchemy's Improved Acid Flasks. Spheres of Might's damage output is apparently being balanced against permanently-hasted Paizo martials who are always in full attack position, yet the writers seem reluctant to make Spheres of Might's debuffing on par with top-notch battlefield control spells.

• They can regain martial focus trivially. Every character had martial focus at almost all times, because focus was pathetically easy to regain with their class features and talents. This is Spheres of Might's combat paradigm: nearly every spheremighter wants to take a focus-replenishing talent ASAP, so as to constantly expend and regain focus.
>>
>>53212271

• Most of them repeat the exact same routine over and over and over again in combat. Damage is the best way to end encounters as a spheremighter, and a spheremighter only really needs one combo with which to kill enemies. Once that combo is attained, why bother spending talents to expand horizontal flexibility? It is better to use those talents on passive/off-turn defensive abilities that can help the character survive. The Dueling dip with both drawbacks for Defensive Slice and Scar Tissue was an especially good deal.

• Most of them have a familiar for +4 initiative, +2 Perception, and +2 Sense Motive. Two of them took familiars via the Beastmastery sphere, the Unskilled drawback, and the Pet talent. It is a good deal for any character, so why not take it?

• Most of them have nil for noncombat utility. Whereas most of Paizo's half-casters like bards, inquisitors, and hunters have the luxury of choosing high-impact noncombat spells like invisibility and suggestion, Spheres of Might's noncombat talents are decidedly weaker and likely to be passed up in favor of high-impact talents like Equipment's Oversized Weapons and a focus-replenisher.
>>
>>53212277

Shortly after arriving in a fairy tale demiplane attached to the Dimension of Dreams, the party picked a fight with four (cute) CR 7 advanced maftets: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1j1rRX3g8-PcmbemiLiGbB2OiCyEoBgwz8mvKUIya7Bk/edit#

This was technically a CR 11 encounter against four 5th-level, 20 point buy PCs. However, that CR 11 is a bit misleading, because the maftets were nothing more than all-melee beatsticks. This was intentional, because I wanted to start off with a simplistic battle against simplistic enemies just to gain my bearings.

I predicted that the following would occur in this encounter:
• The armiger and the blacksmith would have trouble hitting the enemies' high ACs, but would chunk away terrific amounts of damage on a hit.
• The blacksmith's +4 bonus to everyone's manufactured weapon damage rolls would prove instrumental in taking out enemies.
• The gunslinger would inflict major damage on a single enemy before being ganged up on and taken out.
• After taking out the gunslinger, the advanced maftets would have a hard time meaningfully hurting the remaining party members due to their impressive defensive abilities, such as Parry and Riposte and Scar Tissue.
• The conscript/alchemist/cavalier's Improved Acid Flasks would be the single most devastating thing in the entire encounter, corroding away the vast majority of the enemies' hit points.
• The battle would last two rounds at most, and each PC would do the exact same thing on both of their turns.
• None of them would have any trouble with martial focus whatsoever.

>>53212282

All of my predictions were 100% correct. The battle played out exactly as you would have expected it to. The armiger and the blacksmith really did dish out obnoxious damage on a hit, the blacksmith's sharpen weapons really did push the party's damage over the edge, the gunslinger's high-accuracy and high-damage attacks were ended by enemies ganging up on him, the advanced maftets really did have trouble hurting everyone else afterwards...

And most of all, the sheepgirl's Improved Acid Flasks stole the entire metaphorical show. They dealt a disgusting amount of damage across all of the enemies, to the point wherein her net contribution to the fight was almost that of the other three PCs combined.

Even after the gunslinger went down in the first round, the party simply had to mop up the remaining enemies during the second round, spamming the same routine with ever-replenished martial focus.

In the end, the players did not have much to say about the battle, though a couple of them did bemoan their PCs being the "brutally effective yet also insufferably boring and repetitive" type, which is not much different from regular Paizo martials anyway.

My group's morale for Spheres of Might is still low, and I am starting to wonder if continuing this playtest will have any point to it. We have already learned some very obvious lessons about Spheres of Might's "kill everyone by spamming the same martial-focus-replenishing routine round after round" paradigm, and there is not much more we can learn.

I desire to discuss mechanics.

The topic for today is the popularly discussed yet seldom used 'Bad touch cleric'. Sure, save or sucks are prevalent on the cleric list and while they probably won't be as potent as a wizard's options, the cleric benefits from 3/4 BAB which nets them a reliable hit rate with just 10~14 str. Cool enough back in the 3.5 days, but things have changed with the inclusion of spell perfection.

Since most of their damaging bad touch deal static damage, what would be the cleric's best option for his spell perfection? Is Harm worth it? What free metamagics would you tack in there? Piercing Persistent would certainly make avoiding it difficult, but you'd have to go through so many obstacles, the first of which is actually landing the hit, followed by getting past his SR, before he even needs to roll to save which probably won't kill.

All this probably won't justify investment in SF/GSF Necromancy and Spell penetration.

This system is horrible at combat, and worse yet at mounted, and then further-still-somehow worse at trying to apply vehicles.

Honest, anon, anything else. Anything else at all short of POSSIBLY MAYBE FATAL could be better suited to your need.

d20 mecha was... poo.
>>
>>53211176
You go use the Gonzo mecha rules for Pathfinder. They're pretty fun actually.
>>
>>53211176
If you're running things:
You have two types of stats. Your normal stats. These function normally in a pathfinder game.
Then you have MECHA STATS.

Regular stats are SEVERELY WEAK to MECHA STATS. Like, a factor of 10. Thus, enough wizard's fireballs can take down a mech, but for the most part will just be just scorching the paint job. Conversely, MECHA STATS are VERY STRONG against normal stats; a MECHA sword swing can flatten most fighters in a single hit.

Then just run mechs as golems fighting each other with MECHA STATS

Some of us are enjoying the roleplaying and the storyline so far, even though I personally believe I am deeply miscarrying and mismanaging the game due to my inexperience in running group games (as opposed to one-on-one games). I suppose that is one incentive to continue.

Another incentive would be the fact that Spheres of Might could very well change and improve in the future.

Addendum to the playtest report:

• Drawbacks need to change. It is too trivial to cheese them into cherry-picking exactly the talents you need. You will observe that the entire party is milking drawbacks for all they are worth.

• Alchemy's Improved Acid Flasks, Cluster Toss, and Snap Toss need to change. They deal completely ludicrous amounts of damage, and the flasks need only target a grid intersection with AC 5.

• Equipment's Oversized Weapon is a cancerous talent. It is a mindless damage boost to many weapon-using characters, and it does not change up any playstyles in a meaningful fashion.

• The armiger should encourage mixing up various weapon types, instead of nudging players into picking two of the same weapon type so that they can hit hard with their rapid assault class feature. Our party's armiger has two Large nodachis, after all.

• I dare say that the gunslinger (gunfighter) is an overpowered archetype by 5th-level. Between Dexterity to damage, ranged touch attacks, Equipment's Distance Shot, Equipment's Firearm Fiend, the Barrage sphere, the Dual Wielding sphere, and Dual Wielding's Impossible Reload, firearms are a terrifying source of reliable damage.

• Something needs to be done about the "spam the same trick over and over again, with the help of focus-replenishers" combat paradigm. Likewise, there needs to be an actual incentive to mix up attacks, rather than fill out a spammable combo and then take passive/off-turn abilities with the rest of one's talents. Compare this to the Tome of Battle/Path of War, which force characters to mix it up.

>>
>>53212288
How much of a hand did you have in helping everyone make their PCs?

You've pointed out very real big problems but I could foresee a common criticism of your results being that you encouraged every PC to focus on your optimal build strategy of a single devastating combo, and people allowed to 'just build for fun' will find more enjoyable results.

Do you think there would be merit in trying to encourage a new paradigm of diverse and dynamic playstyle prioritized over damage and seeing what the players would come up with in that case?
>>
>>53212463
No. Saving throw DCs from items suck unless you spend WAY too much money boosting them, and you can't apply shit like metamagic rods on spells cast from items.

>Do you think there would be merit in trying to encourage a new paradigm of diverse and dynamic playstyle prioritized over damage and seeing what the players would come up with in that case?
This would be somewhat pointless, because more diverse and dynamic playstyles will be heavily overshadowed by the boring and spammy playstyles.

It is quite damning to conclude that a product makes boring and spammy playstyles so much more effective over varied and diverse playstyles, no?

I never really have this issue -- GMs who run slow combat need to prepare better; and players who take too long in combat need to fix their shit as well. Realistically, a turn should take less than a minute. Move, action, continue on. That can still be pretty long, but that's just how this game rolls.

I tend to eat inbetween my turns.
I also play turn based games when I'm dealing with online combat, since that takes foooooooooreevver

You know, when you know precisely who I am on discord, it's typically worth your time to ask me directly when you are just conjecturing about what I'm trying to do

>No, this isn't a 100% replacement of magic items
>No, this isn't the limit of power for it, there are further tiers
>Yes, this is going to MODIFY wealth by level
>The only thing I'm trying to out and out replace are the stat boosting items
>Also, I'm trying to give dangerous effects that give boons for the price of corruption
>The bad effects are the price of gambling, and are why I baked in "re-rolling"

This is a system that I'm trying to combine with giving magic items, but giving them as plot appropriate rather than opening up walmart to the players. (For example the PLD party is about to get at the bare minimum a Handy Haversack and a Wand of CLW in addition to the magic collars Cashmere looted)

And most importantly, I'm not developing it in a vacuum, I'm being super open with my players and they're helping and making suggestions.
>>
>>53212998

I was in contact with one of your players who had directly informed that the subsystem, and I quote verbatim, "also effectively replaces wbl."

With that misunderstanding out of the way, I still do not think you know what you are doing here. You have a goal of presenting innate abilities that serve as a partial replacement for wealth-by-level, which is perfectly valid.

However, you additionally have two conflicting goals:
1. Ensure that the abilities are actually useful and scale well.
2. Ensure that there are abilities of trivial utility for the characters said abilities are intended for, such as a bite attack on a dedicated spellcaster, or +2 Strength for carrying capacity and a denial of feet slot items, so that characters are encouraged to "reroll."

You are effectively stuck having to design both "actually useful abilities" and "tripe abilities," when you could be focusing on the former and instituting a system wherein characters are enticed into corrupting acts to acquire more of the "actually useful abilities."

You missed

3. Provide them enough aesthetic transformations without tipping their power level one way or another

I'm perfectly fine with including small to useless abilities like Temeria's vestigial wings. And not the least of which reasons are because no one has told you apparently that I already plan to include a second tier, that you can only get by having a similar base transformation (Like, manticore tail can only come if you already have a cat tail) which are much bigger bonuses. Getting vestigial wings isn't going to help anyone that much. Getting a fly speed will, and that comes later.

And I really need to rename it to something other than Corruption, since it happens from a transfer a tangible /thing/ in universe, not from being tempted to do bad things. It's like absorbing the essence of the monsters

And say "You are not achieving what you're trying to achieve" or something instead "you don't know what you're doing"

Frankly, this is sounding overambitious. You now have to design:

1. Actually useful and desirable abilities.

2. Strictly disadvantageous flaws.

3. Cosmetic abilities with a nearly useless ribbon attached.

4. Actually useful and desirable abilities that have a prerequisite of a specific cosmetic ability with a nearly useless ribbon attached.

All of this goes on to a roulette wheel for randomization. You also have to balance around the fact that abilities can be traded, which means an ability that is supposed to be a useless ribbon actually becomes a terrifying tool in another character's hands.

Teams of professional RPG writers (I am not just referring to Paizo's) already have enough difficulty trying to design merely category #1 with fair price tags attached. What makes you think you can fairly balance #1 through #4 just because you have a handful of people to bounce ideas off?

>>53213200

Is that supposed to fall under category #2, then?
>>
>>53212210
They are The League of Shadows, assassins tasked with stabilizing the world, they do odd jobs on the side, killing for money, until they need to assassinate to save the world again.
>>
>>53213221
It's not a roulette wheel. Here's how it currently works

There are slots
>EARS
>MOUTH
>HEAD
>BODY
>SPIRIT
>BACK
>HANDS
>LEGS
>XXXm
>XXXf
(Non-lewd games obviously don't have the XXX ones)

Each slot gets assigned a transformation based on the donor monster. The player then picks 5 (4) slots they want to get, and are then told what was in the slots. That then replaces whatever they had in those slots, even if it's >RESET< and they go back to human there.

Furthermore, the only abilities in the base tier that have to be "actually useful and desirable" are the stat modifiers, which there's pretty good precedent on the rate those are supposed to be doled out. Everything else can be at the level of skill modifiers, or minor abilities at the cost of corruption (which is needed for the Nightwalker Rage feature)

This is still terribly randomized for a subsystem that is supposed to comprise a significant portion of a character's abilities. Again, compare it to wealth-by-level, which gives characters freedom to mix and match among themselves, sell, and purchase. Your system is more or less gambling, particularly when there is the distinct possibility of putting a semi-decent ability at stake and receiving a strictly disadvantageous ability in exchange.

This also runs the serious risk of overcomplicating character progression. If this is to stand alongside regular magic items, then you are going to have characters managing two entirely different sets of slots on the body, which is quite cumbersome.
>>
>>53213386
>>53213445
I think the best way to handle it is to make it entirely separate from WBL, instead of trying to figure out what each mutation is individually worth and overcomplicate calculations.

Give the PCs a fraction of their WBL (more than half, this system is less reliable than the auto bonus progression one) and just play the mutations by ear.
>>
>>53213434
Aspis consortium is just your average generic world spanning criminal organization. They're merchants and smugglers. The only time I've ever found them interesting is in Garund, in deserts they're often fronts for Blue Dragon dens, in Rahadoum they smuggle in religious contriband.

It should be noted that halved wealth-by-level strongly encourages PCs to save their wealth strictly for absolutely essential magic items such as ability score belts, ability score headbands, and cloaks of resistance. There is no wiggle room to purchase more interesting magic items.

How do you not realize that the gambling is the point? And how did you blank from your mind that it has been stated several times that the party, in downtime, can swap slot for slot between each other.

I'm curious, do you actually think you can throw the same CR encounters at any given party of the same level? It feels like you have this dogmatic belief that the game is destroyed if players get the slightest detriment to their optimization.

Do you never play with cursed items? Never deal with negative levels or lead with ability-damaging enemies?

Do you only play APs?

>How do you not realize that the gambling is the point?
Why does gambling need to be the point?

>And how did you blank from your mind that it has been stated several times that the party, in downtime, can swap slot for slot between each other.

This point has never been elucidated clearly enough.

Now that you bring it up, you raise another issue. It is very difficult to design abilities that are merely cosmetic effects with "useless ribbons" if characters can freely mix and match abilities.

A 1d6 damage bite attack on a dedicated spellcaster is not going to do much. It is a useless ribbon. Give it to a melee attacker, however, and they have just received a non-negligible upgrade to their full attack routine.

Most players prefer for difficulty to arise from the fact that the opposition is noteworthy, a challenge to rise to. Difficulty arising from being forced into gambling for character abilities and being dealt a bad hand, on the other hand, is more frustrating than anything. (See: Randomly rolling for ability scores and winding up with a poor array.)

Furthermore, if you are going to rig the gambling such that players always receive something useful, then what is the point of the gambling in the first place? You are just pretending that there is an element of randomization by that point.

>Post an incomplete and inbalanced homebrew in here
What could go wrong?

No, I'm not posting the link to the whole thing yet. There's only like two dozen tf's so far anyways. The only thing of interest that seems robust enough is the template, which I still haven't written rules for un-smutting

The Nightwalker Template (Subject to tinkering)

For every point of HP magically healed, gain 1 Corruption.

When you gain Corruption and it meets or exceeds your Maximum HP, you must make a Will save, DC {10+Corruption-Max HP}. On a failure, you become incapacitated with madness until after an overnight rest is completed, at which point the EXCESS corruption is removed (Warning, large amounts of expelled corruption have unknown magical effects!). On success, you have the option to initiate a rage as though you were an equivalent level urban barbarian, using the Restrained Rage feature, and Fast Healng {Level+Con}. When the rage ends, you will be incapacitated with madness for a short period.

Resting for an hour at night is the equivalent of resting the whole night normally. Resting the whole night restores all HP. Resting all day removes all Corruption.

DR 1/Moonsilver (magic)

If you become overwhelmed from a forceful transfer of corruption, a poison held in all bodily fluids much like a disease, Nightwalkers have a chance of absorbing the essence of the source, their bodies transforming into aspects of the other's body. These transformations only manifest at night, melting back into the body under the light of the sun.

If you applied to a game, and the GM didn't like you as a person, and thus would never pick your app no matter how good it was or how bad the rest are, would you prefer he tell you this, or keep the illusion that you had a chance of getting picked?

And for the inverse.

Are you telling me a game that features literally rape, incest and extreme violence shouldn't have warnings?
>>
>>53215580
Don't try to change the subject with how you injected a generic "muh racism" in there when there is none.
>>
>>53215580
That AP needs a gnoll warning.
>>
>>53215580
I suppose then somehow playing a career soldier plunging sharp metal weapons into the guts of monsters and men alike doesn't require a warning?
>>
>>53215603
No. That was just the GM being a dick.
>>
>>53215602
It's literally racism. She is treated differently because of her race. That's what racism is. Just because she has angel blood instead of African doesn't make it not racism.

Warning: Gnolls

Best warning

(I love gnolls, I always make them slightly psycho goofs with ADHD that love ironic humour and practical jokes.)

(Also are much more artistically creative than normal races)
>>
>>53215580
Rape happens off-screen.
You are certainly right on warning your players because back in 2007 many of mine complained on this campaign being too heavy on horror in the second and third modules though things go back to normal heroic fantasy in the fourth and fifth they almost drop in book six with the dorf cannibal ghosts.

Violence against women is way more severe than violence against men, especially when you learn the women are evil for sympathetic reasons, like body image issues or literally being a rape survivor.

>>
>>53215629
She's not really treated differently because the people thought themselves better than her. Quite the opposite. And even if it was Racism, referncing racism existing doesn't really require a trigger warning unless it's a huge part of the story or very severe.

Nualia's bullshit basically
>people bugged me a lot as a kid and put too many expectations on me and I couldn't keep my legs closed for the first man who wasn't an annoying cunt to me. So now I'm burning down my hometown in the name of the deity that got me into this mess to begin with.

I think one of my favorite interpretations I heard on here is that they're a naturally philosophical race, but their low intelligence means they usually get distracted or start arguing in circles before they can make any meaningful conclusions.

What is the best secondary archetype for a Myrmidon Fighter? Lore Warden? Mutation Warrior? Is an Archer any good, or am I better off going Lore Warden?

I was thinking about doing a Dex focused build that jumps between using a bow and melee, probably Tempest Gale and Thrashing Dragon.

Also how do you cheese using Advance Study?
>>
>>53215765
What type of personality and goals do you want your character to have?
>>
>>53215728
Yeah, and all the women have very good reasons to be doing what they're doing? Rape survivors and those persecuted by society deserve our sympathy and tears, not swords in their stomach.

Personally, I'm glad with the direction Paizo took for later APs like WotR and Mummy's Mask, they focused on inclusion and body positivity more than this bullshit "muh white male power fantasy."

Mutation Warrior is generally pretty cool. Don't know much about Myrmidon, though, so I couldn't tell you how well it compliments it.

Our antagonist, ladies and gentlemen.
>>
>>53215783

What I had in mind is someone who is travelling the world to improve on their martial skills and in general gain greater understanding and insight of Golarion. They want to become the ideal warrior, capable of many forms of combat, but still being a pragmatist in which ones they master and which they leave in the dust. I suppose the equivalent of a young and impressionable journeyman who one day wants to become a sword saint to bring the greastest of honors to their order or family; haven't nailed down the fine details yet. They love life, almost as much as they love battle, and aren't quite jaded (yet) like most 'muh horrors of war' soldiers are.

I like both. Battle skirts are cute and battle thongs are sexy. Both serve different purposes such as exaggerating the labia as you said making her seem more available or carefree in how she projects her appearance, probably a rowdy lover, while a miniskirt implies an attempt at being modest and probably feigns being shy when really she wants you to notice those buttcheeks peeking out just past the rim or when she has to 'inconveniently' bend over in front of the object of her hidden affection and hopefully tease them into making the first move.

But this is talk better suited to elsewhere.
>>
>>53215719
I once made them so that they were noted as having less "mechanical" intelligence (such as understanding how a crossbow works) but more "creative" intelligence (such as getting used to crossbows faster or much bigger benefits from social bonds, teamwork, all that. What takes painful organization to humans is a simple instinct to them).

They're also very much more pragmatic compared to the insane wastefulness of normal races. With shorter lifespans, also precocious and generally learn faster.

I think I still do them like that...
>>
>>53215719
Gnoll's don't have a malus to intelligence.

Neither do Goblins.
>>

Hence "interpretation".

Battle thongs are pure shit and anyone who thinks they're cool is no brother of mine. The ideal woman is wearing a good pair of pants that hint at the thickness of their ass when they aren't in armor, and the big reveal of how voluptuous they are comes from dressing up or dressing down.

>>
>>53216020
Holy shit Paizo just can't write anything that makes sense. They just rehash old tropes, spin them around a little, like if it was some guy trying to reexplain a story but with his own opinion instead.

Though, I'm not going to do anything about it. I tried talking gnolls on fulchan, and... Well with such a heinous reaction to anyone doing OC on the race, I didn't find myself welcome.

Besides: who will use?
