Goverment subsidized decks? Hmm no I do not want to pay taxes for this

I miss quest threads on /tg/.

That's a stupid question.

Why would the game, being a luxury, be better when run by the government?
>>
A thread died for this

But at least it wasn't a quest thread.
>>
>>53182206
>>53185564
40k would definitely be better if run by the government.
I would like to have subsidized models. Also, mandated rigorous testing of new rules between editions would be great.
>>
>>53185617

Why is medicine run by the government?
>>
>>53186260
It's not a luxury.
>>
>>53186320

What about beer?
In my country, only the government can sell it.
>>
>>53182206
Well congratulations. That's the first time I've ever heard a proposition that actually would be a waste of taxpayer dollars.
>>
>>53182206
Wait, actually, I'm going to say yes. Magic the Gathering could potentially be a lot better if it was run as a public service without the intent of making profit. The predatory business model would be done away with, there would be no need to build artificial scarcity into the game and because the cost of printing cards is practically nothing players of all incomes would be able to procure whatever cards they like and compete at all levels.
>>
>>53185409
Kill yourself, then go to /qst/.
>>
>>53182206
That would be great, we can get rid off all this faggy sjw shit. I know just the man for the job.
>>
Ultimately of course all businesses should be in public ownership, but I have to admit magic cards and beer aren't high priorities.
>>
>>53185409
Well that's easily remedied - you'll find it very difficult to miss the quest threads if you confine your search to /qst/
>>
Nothing ever got better when run through a committee.
>>
>>53186352
>In my country, only the government can sell it.
That's how some places in the USA are as well.
>>
>>53186560
are you under the impression that magic: the gathering is currently developed by a lone, visionary auteur?

And you wouldn't want to. Everything from card production materials to the set themes would be provided by the lowest bidder, meaning that yeah, it wouldn't cost anything to play, but you would be playing set Generic part 3.

Also, while you may not agree with the Magic story direction, the government wouldn't produce a set about revolts (that's dangerous!), other countries/cultures (that's insensitive!), or any nonhumanoid (what are those!?).

>>53186462
Also you. HahahahahaNope. Government loves images of minorities, women, minority women, and flags. The weirdos that think Magic is some SJW factory may not see anymore nonstraight-normal-cis-whatever characters, but you'd be spending a lot of time in NotMexicokar, and CivilRightsica.

You know, I've always thought that the elf in that card art looks like he's having a good time. Like he's having a party.

Yes it would. Because any copyright property controlled by the US government is public domain, by law.

Public domain Magic is best Magic, period.

>>
>>53195735
Yeah, his expression is off. For some reason he's less
>"JESUS FUCK HELP THIS IS PAIN BEYOND PAIN"
and more
>"HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THIS GUYS"

It's the raised eyebrows that does it, I think. Making a properly horrified expression usually involves lowering the eyebrows instead
>>
>>53182206
I'm one of the most politically strange people I know. I've been called everything in political discussions, from fascist to anarchist, libertarian to stalinist. Most of the time I think of myself as socialist. And even I think that's the dumbest fucking idea I've ever heard.

There is no political system that would want or warrant that. There is no possible reason to want to nationalise children's card games. Unless you live in the Yugioh universe.
>>
>>53196087
>Making a properly horrified expression usually involves lowering the eyebrows instead
how would you stare in terror if your eyebrows were raised?

It's more the crows feet around the eyes and that the eyebrows look too relaxed, while the lower lids are bunched up in what like a bit too smiley.
Basically somebody had fun being the photo reference.

Raise the eyebrows and open the lids more, so you can see the white of the eye and it's gonna look more terrified.

also this thread is dildos

It's definitely something about the eyes. They drew him with "smiling" eyes, as opposed to some sort of pained expression.
>>
>>53196069
It's not.
>>
>>53191276
Not him, but top kek.
>>
>>53187555
Planar Warming brings back snow, but introduces the anti-snow card type and Denial mechanic.

Free Condom Offer brings back infect, but also has the highest count of cards with protection.
>>
>>53196424
>Unless you live in the Yugioh universe.
Well in that universe I'm pretty sure cards would be considered as military power so it would make sense.
>>
>>53194946
Because you;'ve never taken the time to get into soviet cinema. There's a lot of it and it's pretty well regarded but for some reason russian movies of 50 years ago don't have a wide audience in the west.
>>
>>53195614
Well I'd settle for them being under the control of the people who work there, that doesn't necessarily mean being accountable to some kind of centralised bureaucracy

Damn I'd hate for the manufacturers to cut corners on printed card, and as we all know the greatest game designers demand inflated salaries on par with top sportsmen.

Anyway if it was put out to tender it'd probably be treated more like an arts grant than a public works contract

>this guy wants to make a card game? well I like his portfolio better than the other applicants, let's pay his living for a year and see what he comes up with.
>>
>>53197825
Not much a of cinephile but I had the occasion to see October from Eisenstein (can't get more classical of soviet cinema) and I have to admit that's was something. Not even sure what actually, but definitely not just a propaganda piece.
I was expecting an ode to Lenin, but even he isn't that much on screen. And it go further than that: there is barely any characters at all in it. That's just so opposed to almost all kind of cinema, hell to all kind of storytelling, we're used to it's kind of shaking.
I can't even tell if I liked it or not, I can only tell "it's different". But then I'm not much of a cinephile so maybe I just don't know shit.

>and as we all know the greatest game designers demand inflated salaries on par with top sportsmen.
where did you hear that?
Especially for traditional games.

In video games there are maybe a handful 'star designer', but the rest work their asses off working minimum wage and cleaning up the mess that was created by shitty planning and mid-production changes.

Frankly it's absurd to me that somebody would think game designers make big money.
>>
>>53197970
In Eisenstein movies the crowds are usually treated as characters and characters as allegories.
