Remnants of a long dead empire who will do anything to rise to power again, even if they have to kidnap, forcefully convert, and sacrifice everything that they come across.

They use a combination of mind control and alchemical curses to convert and turn humans into Yuan-ti Purebloods, then over time they gradually turn into snake-bodied serpents. Every other race is sacrificed to their various gods in exchange for power.

My players recently ran across a group of them while they were heading back to base after a field trip. They successfully managed to invade their temple, trash the place, rescue the captives crew and a few other initiates that hadn't completely turned yet.

Of course, this was the youngest and the least successful of the Yuan-ti cults, so I wonder how they'll handle seeing some pop up closer to home.

Were recently in a genocidal war aggainst the catfolk because of a green dragon's scheme to "make the sun & moon do battle" the party got fucked over due to a series of bad diplomacy rolls and were not able to prevent the Yuan-ti from going to war. Many poor little kitties and sneks died until the party got around to toaking down the dragon who was behind it.


Yuan-ti live in the "not south american rainforest" and had recently been sending colonists over to "not-africa deserts" on the other side of an ocean. Yuan-ti ti have this sweet aztec/mayan inspiration for all their stuff. Their cities are centred around pyramid temples that they use as magic solar collectors and they concentrate the collected sunlight into "amber" which they use to keep themselves warm if the sun doesn't show, to give light their candles & power a great deal of their magi-tech.

At the base of their temples will ideally be a zigzag of tiny rivers for use as a public bathing area. ((sneks love their baths))

Heavily influenced by the serpent-men from Conan and Lovecraft. Extremely old race that used to rule the world in distant past. Their great empire has long since fallen and most people only know them as jungle- and swamp-dwelling savages. However, some of them still have a complex civilization, hidden in the deepest jungles of a mostly unexplored southern continent. Their natural form are humanoid snakes (pic related but without legs), but like standard yan-ti (and serpent-men) they also have humanoid forms they use to infiltrate and manipulate other races.

I really wanted XCOM2 to play with the morality of being a guerilla force, and offer up more radical options and tactics. Stuff like:
>Recovering Alien breeding pods, which gives you access to Xcom: EU Sectoid's, and later Chryssalids

It was a good game, but not as dark as I was hoping. Plus, the Enviroments felt really samey, and dumb after a while, and I hated all the bullshit that involved TEH COMMANDERP.

It could have some sort of Morale level, where if you use too many Dark options, or loose too many fights, you start getting penalties to certain missions. It could also have some different endings, depending on what shit you do, and how much you use the Alien tech.

If these were traditional Yuan-ti, then yes, but really they're actually a contingency plan genetically engineered by the last great empire that collapsed. These Yuan-ti's history and gods are all just made up, and they've been programmed to believe everything with such zeal and fervor that not a single one even thinks of looking deeper into it. I would say more, but I know my players read this board, so I don't wanna give too much away.

An sapient people from a distant land. There have only been 2 in my game ever. One was a spy used by a Dragon kingdom. The other is the world's greatest chef. He's a recurring NPC that I rather enjoy.

His kitchen is in a long out building that looks sort of like a stable. There are several stoves and speciality ovens lining either side and through the center of the long, narrow building there's a table that acts as the prep surface. Vascule, the chef, cooks from up in the rafters. Using his tail, he swings from cross beam to cross beam down the room and then hangs from them, head and arms down and holding on with the tail, using this to move quickly from prep station to prep station and oversee every aspect of the giant feasts he and his crew prepare.

He also hosts small, private dinners for the elites of the city using exceedingly rare or even illegal ingredients. Our party helped him out of a jam once and now have a standing invite to his dinners and have used them in their political machinations. He's like Artie Bucco to the Soprano family.

Lion/tiger (liger) and tiger/lion (tigon) hybrids are actually different from each other. The difference is which animal is the father and which the mother (but I can't remember which is which). They do look different from each other, and due to the way the genes regulating the growth of the animal match up, one (liger, IIRC) grow fucking huge while the other is usually smaller than the average lion or tiger.

The one's we've met so far have been rather secretive, using disguises and illusion magic to hide their appearance, communicating mostly through dead drops in sewers. They're apparently more common in the jungles to the south, and share that territory with the Serpent Men, who are a distinct and far older race. It's unclear if the two races cooperate, but it's more than likely considering both are known to venerate the Great Old One Yig. Their exact origins are still unclear, whether it's due to the rituals described in the core rules, humans interbreeding with the serpent men, or a more direct intervention by Yig remains to be seen. In the case of my character, it's most likely the last one.

Like most beast races of the setting, they were bio-arcane engineered by a progenitor civilization from before the reckoning of history. Most of them were built for labor or war; centaurs, huldr (a bovine race)/minotaurs, a race based on charr, etc. Yuan-ti were built for other things. They were cunning, powerful calculators, and capable of much work unbefitting their rulers including more technical roles or tasks their unique physiology is well suited for. There was another reason for their creation: They were the first successful hybrid of humanoid and reptilian creature. Of course, the ancient civilization's collapse soon followed, and this has been lost to the sands of time.

Speaking of sands, most yuan-ti are desert dwellers. Besides pueblos and other oasis-based surface towns, they have sprawling underground complexes build by blasting lightning through the sand and hollowing out the glass. These are furnished with massive crystalline towers at the burrows' entrances, which mark their position. Furthermore, these magic crystals can refract light and heat to other shards of the same original formation- meaning smaller bits of them within the underground complex radiate daylight and heat. Their magic is largely rune and psionic based, and many study the ruins and lost artefacts in the desert that tell of what was surely their great empire in the past and what secrets they could still glean from it.

IMO the physical design isn't *terrible;* the issue is mostly that their backstory is insufferably perfect. I like reading about how non-humanoid races structure their buildings etc (e.g. sneks might use friction-y pillars rather than stairs, a slime-like race's doors would look different due to a lack of need to be vertically-oriented, etc), but chakats seemed to be "well they can just do everything human-like because I put about two seconds of thought into my worldbuilding."

A parallel set of species, part of a greater naga race with dozens of variations, Several medusa types, the book Naga (plus More!), and several that grow into much bigger things (hydras); and several serpent themed 'semi-humanoid' races exist.

They do not get along and some absolutely hate each other. The hydra line starts with a multi-headed serpent and grows through something like 4 phases to be the book version. Yuanti are just a number of entries.

Alternate reality Drow, where Lolth is a Good aligned goddess of healing and plants with a snake motif. They were assaulted by demons who performed a ritual which cast them to another realm; everytime they prayed to Lolth for guidance they were beset by greater and greater misfortune. The snakes they worshipped were noblonger divine and some were transformed, or cursed as they would eventually know to become more snake like. Then Lolth dropped a city on them for lulz, casting them underground.

Too bad that the Drow were forced to give up organized society for survival and none of the current nations of the setting know what Yuan-Ti are, that they're evil, or that they have no way of stopping them if they let them get too strong.

The Yuan-Ti are acting nice and neighborly, pretending to be a new, young race that just wants to be friends! While their 'diplomats' subvert and control those they 'negotiate' with via their hypnotic powers (because sneks have that in this setting). What they intend to do with all this is to make every nation their own and exploit the resources and hierarchies that already exist in them for free access to sex slaves and influence.

I once ran a piece of campaign that featured a cold blooded reptile species using vampire-like mechanics to steal the innate ability of homeostasis from humans.
Affected humans would effectively become cold-blooded and would thus be forced to live like the reptiles, heat collection-wise.


It was supposed to be all nefarious and disturbing in its implications, and my players seemed to like it, since it involved saving an NPC they liked from the reptile blight.
But I hope nobody noticed it was all my magical realm all along.

Any-ma-ho... personally, I always used them as a mercantile race. They developed in an arid environment (of course) and their main commodity is spices. As a nomadic people by necessity, they have few permanent settlements. Typically trade caravans move around from settlement to settlement with domesticated desert beasts carrying large amounts of goods.

There were four different kinds of snake-folk in my last game. The first and original snake race was the medusi, who were born from the snake goddess medusa. They were just your generic evil group of female-only snake people that would ambush travelers and supply caravans, loot what ever "goods" they can, and petrify the survivors into stone statues to use for decoration for their cities.

The next race would be kind of a missing link between the medusi and the other two races. They were called the "forsaken" and were just mutant medusi and were unable to petrify other creatures. It was believed that the forsaken were born from the first-time conception of a human and medusi. They were considered lower than the medusi for both the fact that they had no special powers and that the first males came out of this, and thus became a slave race. They then tried to revolt against the medusi but failed terribly, with only a few hundred being able to escape from the cities. The survivors then started to travel south and would split off into 2 different groups over disputes on what they should do. One group would later become known as simply the "Yuan-ti", while the other would be known as the "Nagas".

The yuan-ti believed that they should follow in the examples of the medusi and just be a bunch of edgy cunts, while the nagas believed that they should better themselves to make up for the misdeeds done by their mother race. The yuan-ti group would then split off to travel further south and would eventually reach the deep jungles of the nation and form the "Yancano" tribe. The Naga group would start to travel east, and would eventually reach the desert nations and form their own city of "Sola".

The yuan-ti would then proceed to raid other villages and kidnap survivors to sacrifice to their new snake god "Yuun". They would also latter adapt to their environment, taking on a more anaconda like form with dark-green scales and expanded lungs so they could lurk beneath the rivers and wait for a victim to walk by. They pretty much became like the medusi, only instead of turning people into "art", they would kidnap them, torture them, kill them and then eat them.

The Nagas would later become a warrior race and adopt a new snake goddess to worship named "Naga", who was depicted as a multi-armed warrior. Like the yuan-ti, the naga also adapted to their new dessert environment and became something akin to a cobra. Sometimes a naga with a "gift" would be born this "gift" being multiple arms, and would be seen as a message from their goddess. These gifted naga would be taught from an early age about combat, and would serve to be the naga's strongest warriors.

The medusi are a cruel people, and would only tolerate other races being non-petrified in their city if it were to bring some sort of benefit to them like if they were ambassadors to a powerful nation or some shit like that. Not to mention the fact that they are a female only race, and require males from other races to reproduce, but they normally don't form a relationship with any of their suitors.

The nagas are probably the nicest of the bunch, and by nicest I mean the most apathetic. They really don't care for any of the other races unless they have business to conduct or if they are hostile towards them. Sometimes a naga would get together with a member of another race, but that wasn't too common.

The yuan-ti are an elitist race and despise every other race, including the medusi and nagas. So they would kill any non yuan-ti on sight.

They believe that by doing this they can become closer to their god, and potentially gain their powers as an avatar. From there they would leave their hidden layer into the outer world in a plan to spread their reptilian blood so that the humans will one day all listen to the calls of their snake masters.

Had a game similar to that.
We were playing a homebrew game similar to Rise of Tiamat but instead it was Egyptian based and had reptile races like Yuan-Ti, lizard Kobolds, and Slaadi trying to bring their trinity of dark gods into existence (Set, Kek, and Apep). So it was a temple run with us going Indiana Jones/Legend of Zelda in each of their temples to steal the artifact that they were using as part of the ritual.

Had a three person party including myself so it was easy for the GM to focus on our characters and give us things to do separate from each other.

GM let me play a Chaotic Good Magma Genasi Barbarian, it was homebrew but overall it was a Fire Genasi with +1 strength instead of Intelligence with a custom cantrip instead of Produce Flame (an attack spell for 1d4 damage that stuck to people and did the same amount of damage each turn unless they doused themselves with water or took an action to put themselves out.)

We come across the Set temple and our party gets separated by a portal opening up because our Wizard crit failed his Arcana check and said the wrong phrase on the temple's macguffin. Myself along with two Yuan-Ti female priestesses (one Abomination cleric and a Holy Guardian Paladin of Set) get teleported to an icy tundra plane. Sure we bickered for a while but we realized it was too cold to do so and hide in a cave. It's still cold but my Genasi body keeps me warm while the Yuan-Ti are still shivering and starting to get frostbite. I ask them if they had any fire spells or survival skills. They hiss at me and act haughty but I see that they're still shivering. I roll an Insight check to see if they'd kill me in my sleep and find out they're too busy trying not to die of hypothermia to think about that and they are panicking because they do not know what to do.

I cast my magma cantrip on a separate side of the cave so they can curl up around it and keep warm. Then I take the opposite side of the cave to sleep.

Wake up in the middle of the night to find that both of them have coiled around me with my head being smothered between their chests. At first I thought they were attacking me as the grip was tight but not fatal. I ask the GM about what should I roll and he has me make a survival check. I succeed and find out that when Yuan-Ti are in extreme cold they tend to go into hibernation or flock to the nearest heat source to stay warm and allow themselves to wake up the next day. My magma spray had cooled off so they naturally wrapped themselves around me to keep warm instead of going into hibernation.

I struggle a bit and the Cleric one wakes up and tries to intimidate me saying she'll break my back if I keep moving and disrupting her sleep. I succeed on my counter insight and know she can't kill or hobble me like that because then I wouldn't be a good heat source and they'd have to carry me across the tundra. My character tells her this and she begins to blush as I saw through her bluff. Instead she just coils me tighter into her bosom to muffle my words and keep warm. I realize the more I struggle the more this becomes painful so I relax and go back to sleep until morning.

Wake up with sun shining through the cave but it's still freezing outside. The Yuan-Ti uncoil around me and try to head outside but start shivering automatically. I try to talk to the Cleric about last night and she brushes me off like a Tsundere saying, "It was only for survival. I have no feelings whatsoever for you, heretic". I retort about her squeezing me to her chest because her life depended on it and she blushes again while taking a swipe at me with her tail.

In the end I got an entire side story where I had to trek and unknown frost plane with two Yuan-Ti that used me as their heated body pillow every night and I slowly seduced the Cleric into liking me during the process. The Highborn respected me as a warrior but was a complete robot that followed the Cleric's orders.

That's all I unfortunately have planned out for them. They were all going to be important parts towards the middle and end of my last campaign. But we had to "postpone" any more sessions due to the fact that everyone in my group was starting to get busy with school/work. So I haven't really had the motivation to work on it any further.

Not entirely. I kept asking him about where my head would be in the grapple because I was playing a shaman barbarian homebrew that acted like a Barbarian Eldritch Knight. Some of my spells are vocal only and he knew that so he found a way to muffle me before I could cast a spell. That and one of my bonds was that I do not try to harm people who are not attacking me to do harm so I rolled insight and found that this was a survival thing instead of an attack so I roleplayed it out. The bosom thing was that they would of had to 69 me to keep me from talking in the coil or actually choke me with their hands (which would have been an attack) so instead he opted for Marshmellow Hell. I rolled with it just because I was still hurting from the combat and didn't feel like taking two high level Yuan-Ti who were at full health while I was 5 hp from going into single digits. My character was fairly tall (about 7'4) so we roleplayed the grapple away.

Similar to Medusas, our Yuan-Ti were mostly female and required males other races to breed, through they had a ritual that turned the male into a Tainted one or a Half-Blood and the occasional male would be born (rare in Yuan-Ti society) from a Tainted one/Half-Blood breed but the ritual normally killed the male. It normally requires a Con 20 check just to make sure you don't go into death saves from the ritual and I was one of the few characters that looked like they could survive the rite, so later on it was revealed that the Cleric was trying to seduce me because being the broodmother of a strong clutch of eggs, especially those that could be male and have extra magical potential because of my Genasi heritage would elevate her within the cult.

Since their 'breasts' are literally venom sacks that store the poisonous substance they spit at you in-game.
The reason they don't explode into clouds of toxic gas on death like the Thin Men of the first game is because their venom glands aren't so heavily compressed due to the different physical nature of their natural form.

When I DM, I use the Everquest world as my campaign setting with some modifications. Yuan-ti are called Shissar and are practically extinct and only live in the far, hidden corners of the world, all but forgotten save for tales of myth and legend, where their hubris offended the gods and they were struck down. They left behind plenty of ruins and strange, magical artifacts that the scholars of the day seek for study.

I don't have them be Yuani-Ti specifically but they're basically Abominations/Vipers in form.

They where a small vaguely Middle-Eastern based with Turkish language desert dwelling society that mostly got around by selling a fuckton of bread, and rare herbs & spices, they neighbored a fairly large mostly human nation kinda based on Rome who they kinda had to tolerate even though they found them disgusting due to being massively outnumbered and fractured as a group so they would never be able to overcome them.

Eventually a sultan who was fairly pro-human got into power, forming tighter bonds with the not-Romans and made a lot more of the racists in their society angry because GRRR, fuck the warm-bloods, but they kinda subsided as quality of life improved from better trading, though the more extremists of the society still hated him and it only grew as he did more "radical" human interaction.

It was looking like Humans and Nagas would soon be allies...until the dragon and their mutated human spawns fleed from up north after a crushing defeat, and the spawn where in open rebellion against their old masters for their failures. The leader of the Dragon-Spawn rebels and one of the extremists Naga noble houses formed a union between their kind, the engineered warrior race serving as the Nagas new military in exchange for help slaying the dragons.

After the dragon civil war the Extremist Nagas threw a coup against the Sultan, before consolidating power and letting their spawn grow into a huge force before overtaking the humans to the West.

Now the Nagas are one of the elite castes in a aggressive expansionary militant faction.

A good friend of mine told me at one point that he hypothesized that furries are just afraid of human faces. There was a panel at a con I went to last year where a fursuiter was talking about it, and it definitely sounds plausible; she mentioned how she could be a different person in part because of the changed if existent expectations people have talking to a fursuit rather than a human, especially since, like some suiters, she uses a sort of duck-call thing instead of talking to emote.
