...A game about people hunting for spoopy monsters?
>>
>>53167879
Yeah, but I'm wondering how people would use them in creative ways with your players.
>>
>>53167875
Those look, in context of Jailers, like the signs made by anomalous entities hiding from the SCP Foundation.
>>
>>53168120
They are from the serpents hand, I think. A splinter of the foundation that sells/uses SCPs for power and profit.

What the hell is SCP?

Is this a game i never heard about?
>>
>>53167834
Not necessarily those in particular, but I've wanted to use similar symbols for a particular magic item. Only the wearer can see the symbols, but they grant them supernatural knowledge, being able to see locked doors, warning them about danger, etc. (once they know what each means) but its actually fueled by a demon, who will eventually start to try to mess with them.

>Players delve through dungeon.
>Previous explorers left signs.
>Players follow signs to avoid monsters.
>Signs slowly become less coherent.
>Signs start to become completely contradictory.
>Players find a room covered in "Symbols Have Been Compromised" sign, and bloodstains on the floor.
>>
>>53168168
You're thinking of the Chaos Insurgency. The Serpent's Hand are a loosely-affiliated group of cabals, gods, mystics, ancient cults, esoteric librarians, and other groups who use occult power to protect mankind from the supernatural.
>>
>>53169414
Collaborative writing... thing. Make creepypastas in a universe where an organisation exists to put the creepypastas in big, big heavy boxes and weld them shut. As well as some other organisations that want to do other things to the creepypastas but they're not important.

A lot of it is shit, but that's true of anything. Keep poking through and you'll find some gold eventually. Or an amusingly shaped turd.

>>
>>53169559
Yes, thank you, I get them confused. There is also something called the wandering library, right? An interdimensional library that all members of the foundation are banned from due to the foundation driving a semi through it.

>>
>>53170069
Don't forget how crazy-compartmentalised knowledge is in the Foundation. Most of them will have never heard of any other SCP than those they directly work with.
And you don't send the people who have access to the full list -even if it is censored- on field missions if you can avoid it.
>>
The first time I saw that image on here, someone came up with a scenario;

PCs investigate dead person. Find them with some notes on the symbols, translating some symbols the dead person left in blood during his last moments. There is one symbol he drew on a single wall over and over (as if he really needed someone to know), but the notes have no translation.

They retrace the dead guy's previous movements, find more symbols and more notes translating a few more symbols.

The translations are accurate, the symbols are useful in avoiding traps and finding secret doors, so the dead guy's trail is followed back to his original hideout. But the PCs never find the translation to that one repeated symbol on the wall in the notes they find.

Finally, at the hideout, they find signs of a struggle...and a full translation guide for the symbols.

What was the symbol the vict drew on that wall over and over?

"Symbols have been compromised"

But it's too late, they're in too deep.

Cue the ambush.
>>
>>53170298
I guess you're right. Gotta keep all those memetic SCPs on lockdown somehow
>>
>>53170360
That's awesome, I'm stealing this for my numenera game
>>
>>53169972
The Wanderer's Library is a parallel universe, or wormhole, or god, or SOMETHING, that the Serpent's Hand uses/serves. Like many things about the Hand, it's not very clear what it is, beyond a repository of occult knowledge that is probably sentient, if not sapient or omniscient.
>>
>>53169948
Had to look it up again, but I think Delta Green would be the best one. It's a sup for CoC. You're a super secret group that "protects" everyone else by doing the nasty shit no one else can do.

I like how they're sort of meta-aware of how samey some of the SCPs can feel with the don't follow the little girl one.

I can't help but wonder what the hell must those MTFs face to have to cook up symbols to warn stuff like "pray while shooting", "alternate reality entered", "do not fall asleep here", etc.

And where the symbols are put. For example, the "hostile being" one. It is likely that the being is gone.

"Don't give up"
>>
>>53169573
>A lot of it is shit
That's a pretty big understatement. The grand majority of it is shit. I'd almost be willing to write the whole thing off as garbage if it wasn't for the tiny handful of really old entries that were actually decent.
>>
>>53176421
The "Symbols have been compromised" one is probably the worst. What the hell are they facing where something like that is considered a basic and reasonable field code.
>>

No.

Oh for fuck's sake. SCP was cringy enough without even more cringy edge lord Gary Stu "rogue factions" shitting it up even more.
>>
I kind of like the idea of this setting:

>There is a HUGE super dungeon
>lots of active parties of adventurers in it at once, though they rarely run into each other
>the dungeon is in the middle of nowhere so they all hail from different lands and speak different languages
>the groups communicate asynchronously by leaving hobo markings throughout the dungeon, especially regarding safe/unsafe areas, clean water, etc. Groups spend weeks or more in this dungeon, so this kind of information is really helpful.
>>
>>53176788
>more intelligent denizens of the dungeon start to learn what the code means
>dungeon becomes living hell as adventuring groups are lead to their doom or slaughtered in their sleep after being tricked by false markings
>entire system falls apart, no one trusts anyone anymore
>>
>>53176788
>group starts to recognize the different groups by the color and style of their markings
>decides to just follow one group
>comes across a lot of rotting bodies in a room with no markings beyond

>>53176859
I bet dickass adventurers would just write "Try jumping" next to every ledge anyway, so it'd never work
>>
>>53176645
I guess that's the serpents hand's MO, because their boss is a library and they need to show that they are smart

A shower curtain that caused people behind one side to switch with an alternate universe version of themself whenever someone opens it from the outside.
>>
I always wanted to write an SCP that was a TV that could interact through the 4th wall. Like, if you told a character in the first in a horror movie that the killer was about to jump out behind them, they might react to you and dodge the killer, and maybe even call the cops, and the plot of the movie would change entirely so that it would turn into a dark humor buddy cop movie or something from there on out. I had some different test planned out too to see how different genres and stuff would change. Lastly there was a note banning cartoons, after an event where Bugs Bunny got out of the TV and they had to chase him around the facility like a episode of Looney Toons.
>>
>>53184365

I was looking for some universal, or at least we'll known, symbols for fantasy rpgs.
Alignments, schools of magic, weapons, armor, elements, possibly races or creatures.

I found a few, but they were just people applying terms to zodiac symbols as they saw fit.
The idea being that the player would see it and immediately know what it means, rather than have to learn it, ideally.
I could make up my own, but I'd prefer something with more weight than my own scribbling.

Idea for a WoD/CoD game, but it requires a good group and a DM willing to improvise like crazy:
Grab a city map, and make up some symbols. You only need to define one - the one that all the players recognize as "unspecified point of interest to you", which pregame they should see in their dreams.
Now, on the map, put various symbols at different locations, in varying combinations. When the players find the map, have each one provide the DM with what they think the symbols mean, and build the marked locations from there. Pick interpretations, combine them, or even make them red herrings.
Great dungeon of the week campaign.
>>
>>53167834

There already is one similar to that, except it's one of those NES controllers you use to play Duck Hunt.

Shooting at a TV character while using a CRT TV with the gun will result in the character getting shot.
An experiment had a cartoon character getting shot. The result was comical, and the character warned the D-class to "beware the Foundation"
Another experiment had the researcher shoot at Cpt. Kirk repeatedly and all he managed was nonlethal hits and a few redshirts getting killed instead until someone (Spock?) tossed an overcharged phaser through the screen that detonated destroying the TV and the researcher.

If the SCP left a mention but didn't bother to seal it away, it can't be that bad.

If it was legit, it'd probably just be some minor place of note that makes the tunnel weirdly long. Maybe caused by something since contained or destroyed.

There's actually an SCP based on an old duck hunt gun that affects any television like that, with the caveat that shooting things is literally the only interaction it is capable of. http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-674
>>
>>53181822
So it's like the one that attacks you if you see its face, except it comes for all non-pictoral information about it, but doesn't necessary kill? That's pretty cool.
>>
>>53189821
I'd like to see it expanded myself.
Number of kills, little line of orange jumpsuits, white labcoats and black suits with crosses through like nose art.
Experimental history like the comics with the D class, writing details into a continuously backed up document for instance and what the SCP went for.
Location of 'wild' sightings, stuff like that.

We have no idea what it does to information/people collected.

I wouldn't, because it's retarded.
You have an organization that can do whatever the fuck it wants, has immense resources, the best equipment and tech and all that jazz. And the best they can do is to draw lines with chalk that are nondescript as fuck?
>>
>>53211688
That's the point, you can't rely on technology around supernatural shit, and you can't make the symbols obvious or any creature with intelligence could replicate them.

The best thing would be something that can be done manually, nondescript/secret and easily written anywhere.
>>
>>53208647
I quite like this, I'm still a little unsure how the 'Switch' works in a room though
>>
>>53211779
But the idea itself is stupid. If the situation is so bad that the only way you can communicate with your teammates or reinforcements is by scrabbling shit on the walls, you are beyond fucked.
And even if we assume that's the only option, it's stupid. So the threat is intelligent enough to read/understand actual writing or clear and precise marking symbols and would fuck you over, but somehow it will not do it if you start drawing random, nondescript lines it will leave them alone?
>>
>>53214927
Who said it's leaving them alone? The code writer is still in a potentionaly dangerous situation, the codes just help the next group that comes through.
>>
>>53215343
What if the spoopy's wrote the code?

>>
>>53217632
Without a guide, or some way to learn them from the minds of the operatives, it's largely useless.

The idea behind them is operatives enter a site of interest, communications cut out. They proceed anyway because that's their fucking job, and as they learn things about the SCP they tag the place with symbols. The SCP can't be sure what they mean (usually) and doesn't know what the team knows. Any later teams will then learn the situation faster and better equipped to deal with the SCP.

And if the SCP does know the code somehow... Well, that's what Symbols are Compromised is for.

No, yall are just retarded.

talloran is a random researcher who appearently was obsorbed by a keter class reality altering scp that has already changed the universe as we know it. as far as the foundation is concerned regarding all evidence surrounding the SCP, talloran seems to have single handedly neutralized it.

the reason it is classed appolyon is because this means that the scp is royally screwing humanity and there is no way to stop it. it has already changed reality, and it would seem that talloran has not only sacrificed himself to save them, but he has also sacrificed all knowledge of him ever existing.

it would seem that the sco put talloran through hell before doing this.

the actual article itself was found on tallorans phone, not the actual article. these are the scribblings of a madman who appearently has been fighting whatever this was for millions of years, if the article is to be taken for truth, however skewed it is.

the author is not involved in this in any way. the reason for the namesake of the article is that talloran was the alone with whatever the fuck this thing was, and was the only one who could fight it.

and it cost him everything.

>>
>>53222617
Yes, actually. What happened was that the news programs, all news programs, in the tv proceeded to portray a reality where people were being magically shot without a shooter on live television and the slow collapse of society caused by such radical, constant, unstoppable assassinations (regardless of the shooter's belief that killing certain political figures would objectively improve the world).

Reality itself was unaffected outside of the telly, but he didn't know that because he holed himself up to hide from the problems he thought he was causing.

Always gives me feels whenever I read it. When it comes to scary SCPs

Is one of the few that has actually terrified me. 093 is too, but that's already been mentioned here.

The video shows what happens when he's shot by someone that sees him (he beats them to death while missing bullet hole sized chunks), and reality shows what happens when he isn't shot by someone that sees him (he beats them to death while fully whole).

Yeah, but the SCP ones are much more like hobo sign, and thus more practical for any kind of exploration based game, where your characters and others like them might be making quick navigational markings.

Perhaps these are more permanent preloaded signs?
>>
>>53180734
They are also mostly too specific to deserve a dedicated standard sign, which are the domain of broad classes of worksite dangers.

most of these make AWFUL warning signs, permanent or not.
a good warning sign needs to be clearly identifiable at 20-30 feet.
imagery if present must also clearly indicate the type of hazard at that distance.

furthermore, most of these are the wrong color

black on yellow indicates merely
CAUTION
minor injury or equipment damage may potentially occur if proper precautions are not observed

black on orange indicates
WARNING
severe injury, death or damage could occur if proper precautions are not observed

white on red
DANGER
Death, or severe injury WILL HAPPEN if proper precautions are not observed.

OSHA is not standard in 100% of countries, but most use this same scheme.
these are not good as hazard signs for several reasons.

>The panic has caused all further television broadcasts to not show any actual pictures or videos of humans, as what remains of society starts to broadcast pleas to the killer to end their reign of terror
>The tv is found in the house of a man who committed suicide, a broken Duck Hunt gun in hand
