Titans are definitely going to be in the 100 wounds range. Assuming you can get a 10+ on every smite and always roll a 6, you're still going to have to cast it 16.666... Times.
Statistically you'll need to cast it 50.7 times, and that's assuming that titans don't have something like a 2+ save against mortal wounds, which they undoubtedly will.

I assure you anon, daemonspam downing titans is nothing to worry about.
>>
>>53144471
They're memeing about Sigmar because they're salty about Fantasy.
>>
>>53144430
but how?

if they don't charge they will be several inches away from a fight, probably more than the 3" of consolidation
if they charge after an infantry unit this last one may have already covered the front to come in contact with
if the charge first they will get a full overwatch

It seems very situational to me
>>
>>53144490

>>

It's basically extra charge range for your characters if your other dudes made it to the fight without him.

You all are fools if you don't realize this change means sniper weapons will have a special rule allowing them to target whoever they want.
Which is both fluffy, and actually gives people a reason to feild ratlings, vindicares or sniper scouts.
>>
>>53144529
Never mind, it's free counter-charge for your characters.
>>
>>53144520
>we're what we eat

Wait, does that mean that if you have a GF you become a pussy ?
>>
>>53144505
They have not stated as the rule exactly work, but for example it can work if the unit with the HQ is assaulted
Your opponent may not want to fight that HQ, because he's hard as fuck/is extremely strong
With that rule they can't avoid it easily, because the HQ can reach combat on his own
>>
>>53144541
Unless every army has a sniper unit I don't see that happening.
>>
>>53144552
Go back to plebbit
>>
>>53144552
>he haven't seen krootmittens
>>
>>53144549
I wonder if that also works in your own turn. Like :
>Unit charges enemy
>Character is very close but didn't charge
>Can still pile into the combat, without any overwatch coming his way.
>>
>>53144505
If they're surrounded by dudes, which considering the bubble of buffs they should be, there's a good chance they'll be right behind guys getting charged at some point. That's what it's for. 3" consolidation doesn't matter when they're behind a row where you physically can't get to him. I'm not sure why you'd have a guy who's invincible unless he's the closest model to the enemy and put him standing in the front right next to your guys instead of behind them.

>>53144854
The reason Rule of One exists in AoS is that there is a spell which all armies have access to that gives a unit +1 to its save. This is a very powerful spell and if you can stack it, things go out of control. Looks like they learnt their lesson since there's no such common power in 40k (only the D3 mortal wounds one) so there shouldn't be any need for a rule of one.

Open play is open, there doesn't need to be any scenarios or complexity.

Just shove models on a table and start rolling.
Matched - classic 40k
Narrative - Scenario 40k
Open - do whatever
>>
>>53144896
Open is intended for games for new players who only have a box of guard or marines or what have you, so they can learn the rules.

Narrative and matched grow from there.

They're an Imperial Fists successor specializing in close combat tactics. They are called the Crusaders of Dorn. The world has been striken with the chaos and destruction of the great rift, and yet the Crusaders of Dorn endure, hacking and slashing against the waves of heretic monstrosities that assault the holy city.

They specifically said they want psykers to scale well with game size, and they've stated there will be a relatively small pool of powers. That being the case, it will be impossible to avoid some power overlap in larger games. The Rule of One cannot coexist with seamless scaling of army size.

So, they no longer let characters hide in units, but they can hide right next to units?

And they don't give a buff to the unit they join, instead they give a buff to all units within a certain radius.

This is meant to stop deathstar combinations how exactly?

Also, fuck everything about that hiding from shooting bullshit. You can target a unit of ratlings behind a unit of ogryn, but a guy who is way bigger than an ogryn can hide behind ratlings? Except not if you're a bad guy race, because all their big guys are going to be slightly above the threshold.

There was literally nothing wrong with the current rules except for badly written special rules spreading onto units that were joined by characters. Just remove all the automatic group benefits and have them grant them conditionally to units with certain keywords and it would have been fine.

Hopelessly weak. They already screwed everyone who was willing to pay the price to make an ork army that was capable of winning, so there's no incentive to make them OP again. Plus most of the things that make them good are accidents of rules which are unlikely to be repeated in the same way in a new edition.

On the other hand, if they keep random AP, the ones which do that will be less shit because there's no more AP 4 being wasted against Sv 3+ units.

Considering that Characters can no longer be part of a unit, but instead can't be targeted by shooting unless they're the closest, and spread their buffs to all units of the same faction/army within X inches rather than just the unit they joined ... You could say that Characters now automatically join ALL units within range.

Only being able to target a character if it is the closest unit also allows fast, mobile units like speeders or bikes to actually make a run for the 'decapetating strike'

Seems like there will be a lot more tactics around killing characters or keeping them safe, or at least more than "Can I stick this character in the most tanky unit y/n" and "Do I have the firepower to remove the unit around the enemy warlord y/n"

I really like Greyfax and after that my IG commanders. I made one count as for Creed and one for Straken. The Creed one I like the most. It's the 2 Hot shot pistol arms from the Scion kits and a Scion helmet with the spike on top. He looks like a kick ass gunslinger commander. The Straken one just has a robotic power sword arm and a power fist arm along with the Scion Beret and mask head.

Greyfax though is just so fierce. She's so much taller than everyone else and on a bigger base. She just looks bitchy and cold. I always make her lead my Conscripts, but I don't use the Greyfax rules. I usually do a Xenos Inquisitor with Rad Grenades, a Force Sword and Psychic Shriek.

Can't you just put the character in the middle of the unit and consider the unit to be around him in a "doughnut" shape?

That way you would most likely only affect that unit like now, but you wouldn't be snipped unless there are units that can avoid that rule, since there can not be an enemy unit that doesn't have a model of the friendly unit between it and the character

splinter fleet from behemoth gets reawakened and picked up by a small tendril of leviathan after a century of hybernation; the twin fleets of the so called amphiteres now orbit each other in a dance that make them share resources, compete for genetic domination and ultimately fuse into a single hive

the hive fleet is relatively small to the point the genestealer cult one of its genestealers spawned ended up becoming an almost more powerful force on itself, mainly due to its spacebound nature allowing it to outrun the tyranids and its patriarch to evolve into a new and horribly bloated form on its overgrown biothrone

main characteristic of the biomorphs of this swarm is the symbiotic relationship with the psychoreactive colonies of unicellular beings "adopted" during the invasions of the mining worlds of dyte's gates, noticeable on the tyranids of the fleet thanks to bioluminescent spots over their carapaces

the fleet seems keen on testing new and extravagant biomorphs but incapable or unwillingly to stabilise the mutations into a specialisation for the whole swarm; most exemplary of this behaviour is the stealth-o-skull pic-captured deployment of a strain of hive tyrant, named "gnasher" by the greenskins fighting it, seemingly incorporating the same gravity warping technology of the narvhal-ships into a miniaturised set of thick claws on thin mantis-like limbs capable of punching burning holes into space, the barely contained forces unleashing havoc among greenskins and the swarm supposedly tearing the tyrant itself apart if the interpretation of the blurry pic captures is to believed

Also interesting that we didn't hear anything regarding Challenges in 8th, which I would think falls under the umbrella of character rules. Since characters are no longer parts of larger units, they now enter melee separately I suppose, and the target unit doesn't have a character in it, so you can't just call out a challenge to that unit. Do you think challenges might instead be a calling out a challenge to enemy characters within X range?
>>
>>53145700

>>53145739
As mentioned above, it's entirely possible (as far as we're aware) to just donut a defensive blob around an IC still, and this would make it such that you cannot charge said IC. A hypothetical challenge mechanic would allow you to try to draw out such cowardly characters. It's also really thematic for the 40k world to have Warbosses bellowing out "FIGHT ME YA GIT" to some farseer or something.
>>
>>53145731
Actually it's more than just units fleeing. It can represent taking the wounded back to base, a wound they had taken earlier finally catching up to them, a lucky shot blowing the generator on their power armor. Anything that takes them out of combat for 10-15 minutes is enough to be battleshock.

So, I think I see why characters can't join units anymore. There are a bunch of things that give a buff to a unit, notably psychic powers. In 8th edition there will probably also be things which give a unit extra actions, re-rolls, etc. using command points. In order to prevent one form of abuse of this rule, they stopped you from letting you give all your characters a buff along with a unit.

I'm thinking we might see a bunch of twelve-wound ones. Monstrous creatures are already tougher than your average character, and the idea that you can't target a synapse creature with anything until you defeat an entire horde army seems like a bit much. I'd prefer they still force a choice to either mow down the horde or go for the bigger targets. The balance I'm hoping for with nids comes from versatility and rebalanced point costs.

Well, that tells us most of the LR's stats. Looks like they will be pretty vulnerable to heavy bolters, if the S 5 AP -1 speculation is accurate.

Seems increasingly like there is no simple formula for converting vehicle stats between editions though. Dread had 3 HP, gets 8 W, LR had 3 HP, gets 12 W, Naut had 5 HP, gets 18 W, Knight had 6 HP, gets 'dozens of wounds'. This might mean that the speculation on weapon stats is completely off too...

Each lascannon hit will deal on average 1.9444 wounds, so a maxed out unit of devastators with 4 lascannons would on average deal 5.185 wounds.
That's of course without factoring things like smoke launchers which now reduce BS or cover that boosts saves of other such things.

So average D6 roll is 3.5 we'll say 4 wounds to kill. Lascannons wound the on 3s so 6 hits to kill. Finally 1 in 6 hits saved so 7 hits to kill.

Old comparison: 5s to glance, so 9 lascannon hits plus a chance to explode.

At the very least, this would mean a Space Marine predator tank isn't quite as mis-matched if it gets in a duel with a Leman Russ

The multiple wounds don't spill over, they only go onto the single target they hit, so if a guardsman is hit with a lascannon that single guardsman will take D6 wounds but the rest of his unit will be totally fine.

Thing is, we know somewhat what regaining troops or making more does with Summoning, Hellrain Brigade and Unending Host. It's mediocre unless the whole army is focussed on cheesing the shit out of it, because it's too slow, and unlike Starcraft your opponent doesn't have to slowly ramp up and all you have to hold off is a 6-pool Gaunt rush. I would like some fortifications that made cannon fodder for you, though - I imagined something that threw out 2-10 Fearless Rending Conscripts that have to move towards the enemy and charge every turn for Mechanicus, a Genetor cloning vat. Rank up a few next to the Dunecrawler gunline, crew them with your enginseers and servitors to get you a reroll on how many when they're not repairing and throw in a smallish tarpit every turn, since if you have them close together they'll combine their units.

>‘First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire!’. This now makes a unit of Astra Militarum infantry treat their lasguns and hot-shot lasguns as Rapid Fire 2; that’s 4 shots per Guardsman at half range! Combined with the fact that every weapon has a chance to hit any target, the much-derided lasgun can now be the deadly laser weapon the Emperor’s armies need.

Muh dick.
>>
>>53146865
Yeah, but that still feels like the sort of thing you need to be playing apocalypse for. Base-building only works out if most guns and units can't immediately shoot the enemy base, and on a 6x4 board you could just shoot them from spawn.

So you'd need a bigger map, and some sort of method to determine how many units you can call in from any building at any given turn, as well as a way to decide how many buildings you can make and how quickly.

I think it could still work, but it basically turns into a game of 40k where rather than starting on the board, you build your army on the table, and then you'll probably end up having a pretty standard game somewhere near the middle, except any artillery units will be sitting at base instead.

The predator was never mismatched. At BS4 and with 3 lascannons it could put out more shots than a vanquisher, land more of those shots, and do so out of multi melta range. Plus, it was cheaper!

And it's not just AT weapons. Leman Russes are now much more vulnerable to medium strength weapons like Autocannons and missiles, and at a 1/18 chance of getting glanced by any given lasgun hit and a 1/6 chance to get glanced by fire warrior pulse weapons we find ourselves with a very medium armored heavy tank
>>

Transports will probably work like in AoS, where you can stuff any number of units into a transport as long as the model count fits.

Four times as many hit points kind of counts for something, surely?

Assuming autocannons are Heavy 2, S 7, AP -1, D 1, it takes 4 hits to remove a wound on average and 48 hits to kill the tank. Shooting at side armour with the current rules, it takes just 18 hits to do the same.

Krak missiles are speculated to be S 8, AP -2, D D3, so 1.5 hits per wound, taking 18 hits to kill the tank. That's exactly the same as it is against the front armour now and twice as many as it takes against current side armour.

I don't know what the other players dudes will do in CC but I will be laughing every time my tards and their tard-guard(Priest) get into combat.

hate2breakit2u famalax, but the bigger shitposter here is you tho

>anon was mistaken about fact
>you correct him on it
>he trolls you back
>you take the bait and shit up the thread

if you genuinely thought that anon wasn't trolling, and that your cropped pic and "this numeral"-blablablah would be the last nail to win you the argument and finally show him, then pls lurk moar

if you understood that there was trolling afoot, then... what were you hoping to accomplish with that post, srsly?

drop the ego shit, you don't have to prove yourself right on an anynomus seashell painting enthusiast slash proana helpgroup telegram station :^)

>all these chaos fags still on about being the "good guys"
you serve the fractured egos of a million-million dead souls who are hell bent on the consumption of they physical realm and spend their free time torturing mortals each in their own special way.

it's ok to like the bad guys, just accept it. the bad guys are 9 times out of 10 cooler than everyone else anyway, but they are still the bad guys.

even if you are of the persuasion that the imperium is evil (because lets be honest, they're ambivalent at best) that does not make chaos good.

You really don't need to congratulate yourself.

So, LRBs are now T8, 3+,W12

Doesn't that mean they're ridiculously squishy now, even considering AV and exploding etc. is removed?
>>
>>53149716
They're not exactly squishy, lascannons are just seemingly way too good at popping big things.

And they used to be squishier considering lel av10 rear armor 3 hp.
