It depends, what game am I playing?

DEPENDS ON THE SETTING

Emojimancer.

Think modern urban fantasy where kids use smartphones to perform rune-based magic, except it's emoji instead of runes.
There are also fashionmancers, and other shit that wouldn't look out of place in Unknown Armies.

Paladin that will murder you whether you're a murderer yourself or just littered.

They are both equally reviled and worshipped, both sought out for help and sought out for extermination.

They are the definition of a double edged sword.

Generally I tend to play as sneakier types.
Robin Hood-esque characters, or serious and professional pick-pockets.

In modern settings I tend to drift towards handguns and knives. If not an intimidating character.

>long strings of emoi-runes aligned in concentric circles to summon steve jobs
>misuse of the dangerous amplifying "100" emoji caused one unfortunate emojimancer to be burned alive after his fire spell went haywire
>older smartphones are less powerful, as they cannot render more complex emojis
>a circle of hooded emojimancers gathers in the woods, chanting memes into the night, illuminated only by the glow of a macbook at the center of their ritual

There's something to this idea

OP here. Any setting you prefer may it be a gunslinger in wild west, wizard in generic fantasy or engineer in space opera. Just post your favourite.

Thief is the best.

Back when I was in the army our barracks dorm (10 guys) used to have this elaborate role playing inside joke setting where each of us was some hero class and all the others were something like trolls and goblins. Our classes were decided by some stuff we did, I was called the Thief because I was small and nimble yet kept pilfering snacks from the mess hall guys all the time. Long days spent in conscription really let your imagination run wild.

It's more of a "secret world" setting.
People use magic via physical fetishes (foci, fetishes - whatever), which is usually thematic clothing (that looks like someone robbed a cosplay shop, but that's beside the point), but an undergorund cabal of programmers managed to hack reality and embed magical software into most of the popular smartphone OSes.

I also enjoy playing as jesters.
At least in fantasy settings.
>>
Specialist or Mage.

Specialist: because MacGuyver always got the job done.

Mage: because sometimes you just have to put a giant fireball into someone's face.
>>
>>53113796
Really snobby noble spellcasters who are actually nice
>>
>>53113974
The Secret World is fucking dope. Using smartphones for magic also sounds very Shin Megami Tensei.

I think in the end though I just really like to see modern day mages and warriors in fashionable, current clothing.

>Modern-day warriors run around with cargo pants, boots an' thick jackets to protect them from all the hits they're gonna be taking.
>Modern-day wizards tend to wear long-coats with wing-tip shoes. Generally opting to use hoods over pointy hats.
>Modern-day rogues come in two flavors. Sharp-dressed suit and tie or back-ally thug. Complete with hoodie and hidden knife.
>Modern-day clerics tend to wear a religious symbol and look wholesome and well groomed.

Huh.
If I were a drawfag, this is where I'd be designing modern armors based off he thoughts in my head.

I pretty much OD'd on TWEWY and Devil Survivor when I was designing the setting.
There were a lot of changes made to disengage it from its inherent weebness, but it's still pretty obvious when the people with magical powers when described look like they robbed a Shibuya fashion store.
>>

Diviners, illusionists and planar travelers
I don't like doing things but I like seeing cool shit and having a lack of real offensive abilities as kind of a fatal flaw that forces my hand
>>
Clerics for benevolent gods of death.

I always liked the idea of each archetype having its on variant on the standard three-piece suit. It's not to look good in a tailored suit.

>warriors wear their sleeves rolled up along with a buttoned-up waistcoat or suspenders, no jacket, possibly hiding body armor or weapons, and always with a pair of gloves on hand

>mages have a longer overcoat than usual that's left open, almost always paired with some kind of older-style hat and some unique jewellery or tattoos peeking out here and there

>rogues wear a dress shirt with the collar popped, one button undone and no tie, together with a pair of dark, expensive designer jeans instead of slacks
>>
>>53115703
Style is everyone's business. Having strong character design is important, regardless of whether you borrow it from japan. They've got a pretty good handle on fashion over there.
>>
>>53113922
Shadowrun Shamans are just the fucking coolest to me.

My character I stuck with the the longest time was a native human shaman who packed a bigass revolver and focused on support spells. Not necessarily the most original, but I had a ton of fun roleplaying him.

To actually play - Any melee/caster hybrid that uses spells other than damage or self-buff. Illusion+swords, slippery ground+swords, necromancy+swords, whatever.

To troll people who say "You can build anything in this system!" - an evil necromancer/monk who punches people's skeletons out, then their skeleton attacks their friends
>>
>>53113796
Characters who are reluctant to carry out their obligations.

>Witch hunter finds out friendly woman is a witch.
>Paladin discovers that helpful lord's daughter has been turned into a vampire.
>Bountyhunter finds out that bandits he's hunting are some guys he used to run with.
>Monster hunter sees a spark of regret in a dying dragon's eyes.
