Call it "credits" :^)
Energy. The 3 or 4 humans who could afford transhumanism ran the earth into the ground and now roam the stars, in control of armies of robots/genetically engineered slaves, and so, having entirely autocratic rule of their possessions/empires, have no need for currency. They take what they need by force, and to deploy force one requires matter/energy and willpower, nothing else.

Dust
In a recent game I used "klats," derived from "kiloliters of atmosphere," because it was based on the going price of breathable air in space. And it has a nice pulpy, somewhat goofy sound to it.

Station Delta Ducats, or, amongst the lower classes, Double D's. Backed by interests in the terraformation process of their future homeworld after Earth got destroyed.Setting summary, if anyone's interested.
The fourth group of human generation ships before armageddon (relativistic asteroid of unknown origin) occurred, Delta Initiative, was composed of sixty-eight ships from various nations with populations in cryostasis ranging from fifty-eight thousand (a conglomerate of pacific nations) to some with over four million (China, the United European Nations, US). Between these ships, terraforming equipment and resources were spread around. The object of this intiative, planet Aretreme, is being transformed into a livable planet, but until that effort is completed, two hundred and eighty years from arrival in system, the majority of people must continue living in the adapted generation ships, which have been conglomerated into a massive station complex-Station Delta.
A hundred years into the process, and planetside food domes are constructed and small habitats have been established. In the meantime, station society has evolved into a bizarre combination of liberty and constraints, with outright criminals, supercorporations, each sector's own government and law enforcement, station engineers and various other organisations in the grey areas between.

Spurdos.
A finnish hacker managed to hack into every bank and instead of robbing them, he replaced every instance and term for money with spurious, and placed spurdo memes on their pages. And released secret info on every bank, leading all of them to getting trust broken and bankrupted, causing a rennisaunce in banking and cripto surrency
Fast forward into future, governments just call money spurdos, with the value of 1$ 2014 being calculated as a base for their currencies. People commonly pay in " spurdo chits" like most settings with credits.

I like this - though a kilolitre isn't very much, might need to be Mlats or Glats to be worth anything - the ISS has a volume of something like 935 cubic meters that's pressurised, so presumably roughly that much atmosphere.
Though the ISS is also the world's most expensive single object, so maybe klats would be worth a fair bit

See you space cowboy.
As part of an intersteller economic union individual systems have a currency with the shared name of the star.
In the case of humans their currency is the Sol. This system was devised to help make transactions between different Union members easier to calculate so all you have to do is translate your planet/polity/hab/etc's unit of currency into the system standard currency.
exotics, with X as a symbol
It's really far future, virtually everything is post-scarcity, except for very rare particles/unobtainium that requires unimaginable amounts of energy or unique conditions to obtain. This is what you pay to fold space into your personal dimension or to go back in time.

Honestly, Endless Space 2 feels really unoptimized on my comp, it keeps stuttering and after the last update, I just...don't get any images of heroes or quest/story actions.
Which is a shame because the designs are cool.

I'd rather be on the klatu standard, as long as I can get a good exchange rate for niktos. Screw the barada standard, though.
>>53113339
If it was going by the naming scheme the original anon proposed, a glat would be 1 million klats - yeah, maybe klats could be roughly a dollar or something (and lats would be something you use for microtransactions)

Generally the big colonizer currencies are accepted most everywhere.
>US Dollar
>Yuan
>Ruble
>Yen
>African Dollar
>Euro
Generally these are used as trade currencies. The US, China, Russia, African and European Unions are the big colonizers, while Japan is playing at Venice and setting up trade outposts and being cutthroat jews about it. The Middle east has the spare change to get a proper colonial trip but they're still setting up their union.

We're not importing energy, dammit. Or Frenchmen?
>>53114057
>Not using the french as currency
The French are perfectly capable of being currency. Good currency is uncopiable, unique, and doesn't fight back when you fuck it's girlfriend.
>>53114244
There's two well know Disney Animated movies about french people.
Both of them involve frenchmen fighting back when someone tries to fuck their "girlfriend".
I guess Disney are just dirty liars?

I like this, but we're dealing with gases here, so we need to have a standardized temperature and pressure to calculate the volume at.
Or just chill it to liquid form and then you only have to worry about volume. Plus you can hold way more that way. If they transport atmo in the future, it will probably be liquid just for space efficiency.
MicoCentrics, the currency is basically fuel regarding homeworld FTL, nothing interesting really...

STP, baka. 0C, 1 bar.
>>53117985
That is a horrendously inefficient way to store and transport gases.
>>53117446
Also you'd want to standardize the gas mixture across all markets. According to this link
http://www.e-missions.net/ssa/CH4-breathingonthespacestation.htm
Ideal space station mixture is N-78/O-21/H2O-1.

Although there are three major units, (The Altairian Dollar, the Flainian Pobble Bead and the Triganic Pu) none of them count. The Altarian Dollar has recently collapsed, (again) the Flainian Pobble Bead is only exchangeable for other Flainian Pobble Beads, and the Triganic Pu has its own very special problems. Its exchange rate of eight Ningis to one Pu is simple enough, but since a Ningi is a triangular rubber coin six thousand eight hundred miles along each side, no one has ever collected enough to own one Pu. Ningis are not negotiable currency, because the Galactibanks refuse to deal in fiddling small change. From this basic premise it is very simple to prove that the Galactibanks are also the product of a deranged imagination
