Last thread died, but we eat our dead for resources.

>Doesn't even us the cannibal picture

Oh anon...

Anyway, I enjoyed that last thread. Got to talk and think through a lot of stuff.

Also, the reason Spidicules is good for Cooking is that it gives a chance to pull an event that has a chance to roll for a Vermin? I was hoping that you could use Silk to substitute for one ingredient, or gain a movement as a bonus or something..
>>
To the anon asking about The Hand, I can't say. My friend and I both lost high courage guys because we only had 6 survivors we cared about and were fine losing 2 instead of 4 to the Timeline event.

But do you Accept the Darkness or Collective Toil?
>>
>>53086603
Cooking is shite because the expensive recipes only effect a single survivor for a small boost. It's not even useful to PotStars unless you're so horribly suffering in dragon traits and desperately need constellations.
>>
>>53086761
We picked Toil but it's not great.

Is it gay to want to breed the Anonymous Survivor?

Cuz I wanna breed the Anonymous Survivor.
>>
>>53087003
The Evasion recipe is basically worth it. You can fight the antelope with the right gear and have a good chance to get everything you need for it. If you can toss Salt into it, then it's pretty great.

The survival bump also means you can safely roll on Nightmare Training... It requires some build up, but it's a better choice than say... Partnership.
>>
>>53087096
There's nothing wrong with the want.

Well the sorry fact is that before she obtained the belt, he was attacked by a maneater bug and had his genitals replaced with smooth skin. She didn't magically regenerate a vagina upon wearing the belt.

I guess I'll take the Bone Witch. She knows what it takes to survive in the darkness. Plus she can teach me at least two fighting arts, AND how to run away and leave other people to die.
>>
Exactly how does herb gathering work? You replace an empty hunt space with the even entirely, right? And even if you only have 1 gathering tool, you still roll 4 times? But only the survivor with the tool gets to go forward if you roll high enough?

I feel like im braindead and its super simple but it doesn't seem to explain it well.
>>
>>53088150
I think you don't replace the space. It just happens before whatever would normally happen.

Each survivor rolls any number of dice, but if you get any doubles, it negates the entire roll. You add them together and if you're over... 75 I think, it will let any survivor with a sickle go into the swamp.

The swamp is awful, never go into it.
>>
>>53088194
Really? Swamp seems pretty ok in general. It's the caverns that seem awful for the mining event. Seems like you have about a 99% chance of just not coming back from there, whereas the swamp has a pretty good chance of at least walking out.

What about when you get make that roll in the swamp that says something like "you find a clearing" and i forget the exact wording but it says something about showing the others what you found and then roll again...I assume at that point it means even people without a sickle gets to join? Without the event itself in front of me I can't remember exactly, but I just feel like a lot of the event is sort of vague.
>>
So...saviors?
What the fuck is going on there?
Mostly lore wise.
Also, I chose green.
I was thinking blue, but then I saw that it's a luck for each Milestone, so that's like 3 max, and then that's the last of them.
Although fuck, I guess that doesn't matter much if you've got at least a deadly weapon and the right tools otherwise to farm crit locations. Shit, I could really use more hides, too.
I want takesies backsies.

>>
>>53088292
It wants you to think that.

So go to the swamp, which is tougher to get than the Acanthus or Acanthus+Vermin, you get to roll on another table which has an effective, 11% chance of killing you, a 20% chance of killing you or costing you a survival, which may well kill you in the fight. An effective 20% chance to re-roll and possibly waste more survival in the process. A 10% chance to get an Acanthus, which you could have already gotten without risking death. A 10% chance for speed, which is a low-tier, not super great stat. Or a 9% chance to get a permanent affinity. Oh and if you already have one, then it's death.

Effectively, there are three reward rolls on the swamp. One is no good, one is what you could have already had, and the last still has a chance to kill you.

Who is aching for permanent affinities so badly that you'd give them what could be a 31% chance of death?

Compared to the Worm Tunnels...
30% chance the monster moves a space away. Sucks, but as long as it doesn't leave(1.5 doesn't let monsters leave the hunt board anyway), it's no big deal.
40% chance you lose 2 survival. Sucks, but if you have Herb Gathering and don't go into the swamp, you can get 1 of those back.
30% chance to gain an iron or go into the Crystal Lake for 2 survival.

Crystal Lake...
20% chance to get natural armor and lose your current armor gear. Sucks, but it can combo with other stuff well.
20% chance to lose 3 survival and gain 3 insanity. Sucks but manageable. Especially if you have Peerless.
20% chance to gain 1 iron.
40% chance to gain 2 iron.

You know what wasn't there? A chance to die. Admittedly, the further in you go, the higher the risk/reward skews, but you're not forced to go further in. And you also have several people rolling on the Worm Tunnels.
>>
>>53087181
Minor inconvenience. When Tyrant wants to see you breed then see you breed he shall.
>>
>>53088864
Well, when you put it like that...

I should mention I wasn't saying that I WANTED to go into the swamp necassarily. I think I just got the impression that the caves are death cause of the last section, which gives you 3 insanity to enter, and then I think it's like a 50% chance to roll for your death if you're insane (which you now are for going in). That's a good breakdown though and definitely shows me the flaws in my thinking, thank you.

Though speaking of that even in the cave, it's shit like that that makes me think it should take more to be insane considering how easy it is to wrack up insanity vs losing it. It seems like all my survivors are pretty constantly insane assuming they've been out of the settlement at all. I feel like the "insane" cap should be increased to 4 or 5...but that would probably throw the balance of a lot of stuff way off and isn't worth adjusting.
>>
>>53088808
>>52985127

>>53088864
I forgot, if you're deaf, you have a chance to die in the Worm Tunnels.

>>53088583
Game-wise, Green and Blue are considered the best. 3 luck means you'd be critical hitting on a 7, which is a 40% chance. Combine that with a Luck stone and you're at 50%. Have Axe Mastery in the settlement and you're critical hitting all day against most monsters.

And even if you don't want to abuse the White Lion loop, you can still use Augury to get a pretty solid chance of Understanding.

>>53089017
I'm not trying to nerd bully or anything. But I don't think the swamp has good enough rewards to justify going into it. I mean... you sacrifice a chance for a fairly common/easy resource and risk death for either that same resource, or +1 speed or +1 affinity which is super specific to plan around.

The mines/tunnels/caves at least offer a rare reward for possibly janking up your survivor. If you don't have a Storm, I have no idea how you'd get most of the Blacksmith gear, otherwise.

>>
>>53087003
Cooking is for incredibly late game 100+ survivors infinite sacrifice settlements to buff survivors to fight level 3+ monsters.
>>
>>53088583
in terms of how early you get them
>year 1-2
Red since actually hitting+ wounding monster can be hard at this stage.
>years 3-10
Blue since Resource Farming/monster disabler, don't lose anybody running with blues
>11-25+
Green is best here since you presumably can possibly make one ageless, and an ageless fucker wearing full gorm, leather shield, and monster grease is something like 11-12 armor,w with +5 evasion possibly even ignoring other stat builders, that can't get critically wounded, and don't have irreplaceable gear so they can be replaced EZ.
>>
>>53087003
Was there ever Word of God confirming that it only affects one survivor and not all survivors?
>>
>>53090007
also the reason why it's 11+ for green rather than 13+ is conviction is fucking HARSH if you have a heavy stock, and losing all your now dead blue saviors stock of critical farming would like being punched in the dick.
>>
>>53088583
Lore wise... here's what we know:
The Saviors are, for whatever reason, tied to the dream realm of an Entity called the Ethereal Dreamer. Entities are basically gods in the Kingdom Death setting. We're aware of at least ten of them, but beyond being powerful reality warpers with no real concern for other life, we don't know much.

The Saviors go into the dream world of a god, and live an entire, probably very interesting life there. The three dreams/flavors are probably related to what happened to them there. They come back a second after they left with memories of their other life and some of the power of the dream.

Survivors only seem to actually age past their prime, as they expend themselves in combat. Saviors are blessed with incredible powers that make them burn out much faster. Pre-KDM lore indicates that this is normally a slower process than what we see in the game. They seem suicidally driven to try and improve mankind's lot, and maybe are actually intoxicated by the hope they inspire. There's indication that everytime they sleep, they go back to the Ethereal Dreamer's realm, that the stronger they become, the more of the dream they are, until when they "burn out" entirely, they are pulled into that endless dream they once escaped.
>>
>>53090023

>>
>>53090342
I don't remember all of them...

Ethereal Dreamer. The source of the Saviors.
Scribe. The source of... probably most of the survivors, and the Kings, their Hands and the Kingsmen. He writes you into existence, that's why you have ink on your face and are physically perfect and attractive.
The Goblin. If he exists. Who is sort of like Death mixed with Loki.
The Golden Entity. Source of the Lion Knight, and maybe the Gold Smoke Knight too. Barely in the KDM setting at the moment, but it really likes White Lions and seems to be grotesquely masculine.
Satan. Who is currently wandering around as hermaphrodite incest twins covered in tongues and seducing dudes while women fume at them, but will eventually reveal itself as a giant ivory dragon.
A few others get mentioned. One is quadripedal, has a city on its back and calls people from other realities(settings) into Kingdom Death to fight gladiator matches on it. There's another that was just a dick to some survivors that worshiped it and got killed for that. The Great City has at least one Entity in it... the Surgeon I think? One of the crossover minis mention the Vermillion Raven as an entity.

I think also...
The Storm definitely is. The Witch and all the other Constellations might be. The Gambler, at least, exists, has a physical presence and visible powers... but an update will let you fight him, so who can say if he's really an Entity or just a high powered creature like the Hand? Poots said before one of the reasons he cancelled Lantern Festival is that he didn't think fighting the Scribe was right for KDM's power level.
>>
>>53090432
So, I haven't played dragon god...

Do you draw these randomly? Because if not, what is the point of the goblin constellation, other than that cheery KDM flavor.

Compete and total spoilers:
You play bingo with specific abilities you get. As soon as you get four in a row, you get the constellation in question.
If you happen to get the four that lead to Goblin, you get lolkilled. First time is obviously intended as a 'goddamnit KDM' thing, while also ending up as something that could still happen by accident.

The totally separate pinups skew the perception of how much naked ladies there are. Standard game has male and females with comic book body exaggeration but clothed, just use a Monopoly piece instead of the dead monster token to avoid seeing dick. The rule book has some tits and add, but just shield your Christian eyes or hide the book from your mom and photocopy the rules. Easy peasy

That's even worse. So it literally just takes amusement out of all the horror and terror the Great Game Hunters inflict upon others? Considering how the great Game Hunters usually operate, that makes this thing especially vile. Still not as bad as Satan/The Ivory Dragon though, but that's not saying much.

Here's a collection of most of the pre-KDM lore, by the way.

>>53091074
And yeah. I mean... it's called Kingdom Death, and one of the central conceits is that human are roughly on the same level as mice in the setting.

The only safe prey we see for humans, are bugs and some fish. And even those can kill you sometimes.
>>
>>53091124
Honestly, Kingdom Death is probably one of the few settings that I can say is genuinely darker, and more bleak than 40k. Atleast in 40k there's some vague sense of hope, of salvation from the dark. Here? Best case scenario, you get eaten by a Gorm.
>>
>>53091177
I mean that's more true for 40k circa 4th ed, with the current plot developments it's downright nobledark.

Important Question:

Do any of the models they sell on the store have rules in Monster? This is important because I need to know if I can base them for display or I should make a gaming compatible base in order to be able to use them.

I enjoy it. Easiest way I can describe it is Darkest Dungeon + Monster Hunter as a board game.

>>
>>53091437
Take the brutal difficulty and change dungeon crawling to hunting phase. You build up a settlement and sometimes get fucked over by events as you build it up.

Showdowns are your monster hunter, hacking away with weapons you strapped together from various parts and dancing around in an attempt to control the monster before it pastes you.

Monster Hunter soundtracks really spice up the fights and fit well for the more bestial enemies.

KD models use the same bases as KDM models. Some may have special inserts, but otherwise fit the same.

Models that come with gameplay elements explicitly display them on their pages. The majority of them have to be house-ruled into the game, but a few are easy insertions via the hunt event deck or settlement event deck.
>>
>>53091860
The achromatic scripted v2 is nuts for how much is there.
It has three separate spots for a fancy 'tabbed' manual, so you can leave the glossary open in one place, the showdown in another, and what have you in the third.
Doing the Firsty Story is a great introduction to the showdown and settlement phases, and after that, with just the glossary open, that's like 85% of the rules.

Are we never getting the two models at the top, then, if the lantern festival was canceled?
Also, why and how?
>>
>>53094787
I don't quite follow.

For example, can the Forsaker, the white speaker, percival, order knights, or any other store model be used in KD:M with their own --official-- rules included in KD:M?

Or are they just pretty tokens?
>>
>>53094858
The models were released long ago.
>>
>>53094858
Both were released in resin, the plastic molds have also been cut for both models, so it is extremely unlikely that they will not find a use in a future project.
The cost of having those molds made is simply too great to have them gathering dust for long.
>>
>>53094874
They are part of the setting, but may get rules in the future. Some of these models will likely be used for a more class focused game that Adam once referred to as Kingdom Death: Heroes.
>>
>>53094874
The models are just models you can use for survivors as you'd like.

Percival and Fade, for example, are found dead by your survivors when you encounter their events, and you have a chance to gain their fighting art or gear during those hunt events.

This isn't a wargame where every model is used for something, and even then those are just "pretty tokens" in their own right. The models themselves in KDM have about the same amount of rules as models you'd buy from WotC for D&D.

If it's not an Expansion (or promo "mini expansion" like the 1.5 crossovers and Anon Survivor) then models on the KD store are to be treated as models first, and any gameplay content included is for minor shits and giggles.

>just kited it around the board while picking up dead monster and survivor corpse
>end up nearly exhausting it's resource deck/having it bleed out from a persistent injury.
Feels fucking Good.

They seem to range from human sized to gigantic ones that you can stand on. Even the faces on the bases for the monsters that have them are different sizes from the ones on the survivor bases. I've been resin casting the various monster bases and survivor bases, and cutting them up to use for monsters that have a plain base. Lion knight is great for this because of the ones with all the different expressions to stick in. I don't have a picture handy other than this one though. I may go take pics of the butcher or something where I did the whole base if people want to see.

Minor shit that I really can't remember how I fixed involving auto setups with hunt/showdowns not going away, and the game going "you're already on a hunt, you're already on a showdown"
Occasionally the terrain deck will shit itself and the cards won't go back in, so you just have to manually select the cards and put em back in.
Drawing from discard piles of decks that clone themselves is a bad idea, especially basic resources.
Uh.... I think that's about it. Nothing that isn't fixed in under 5 minutes if you're familiar with tabletop sim, if you aren't and decide to fuck around with the game board willy nilly there's a couple user error things that can maybe fuck you.
Just remember to save every phase, if you think you'll have issues.

It's really easy.

Oh, but I can't stress saving at the beginning and end of a settlement phase enough.
Shit can change a LOT, especially if you're a solo player who doesn't have to talk with other players for resources, deciding what to spend endevors on, and especially if you happen to do shit like roll for saviors/settlement events like open maw, or spend 30+ resources in LY 11 like I just did. Keeping track of what you spent for what for which survivor is... not fun, would not want to do it again, almost fucked up by loading an old save.

Cntrl+Z/the backspace button is your fucking god in a solo campaign.

>>53098505
Depends on if you have someone with Grand Weapon Mastery, Bitter Frenzy or Sweet Battle.

Statistically, it's one of the better weapons in the game. Expensive as shit, but hits like a truck.

>>53099259
I talked about this in depth on the previous thread. There's a link in here somewhere. But basically there's four really good Masteries for your settlement, Shield, Fist/Tooth, Bow and Spear. Getting these will help your settlement a lot. Axe is also powerful, since it combos with Spear on some weapons.

Grand, Katar, Sword, and Club, in that order, are useful for individuals, with Grand potentially providing the most benefit to the settlement, Katar providing a little less and so on.

Knives and Whips are difficult to increase and their benchmark bonuses are either situational or require a lot of forethought in how to properly apply them.
>>
So will they ever not have problems with supplies? With how many expansions they have i feel like Im missing out because I didnt have the money at the time. Which sucks because some of this stuff looks really cooler and more interesting than the base game (which we have played alot of) and I would like to collect it all someday
>>
>>53099399
I really need to start getting shield mastery.
Unless I get really lucky I won't even have specialization against the Hand, which will suck
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the phoenix shield the best/easiest to start using if you're just aiming for the mastery?
>>
>>53099652
I tend to mostly grind out Shield and Fist/Tooth through Nightmare Training but... I'd guess that the Beacon Shield is better. It's more accurate and more likely to wound, which is what you need to do to get the proficiency point. Then I'd go with the Scrap Shield.

Get one wound and then use something that's better suited as a weapon for the rest of the showdown to fight. Or have that survivor go on to just do support with Cat's Eye Circlet or an activated Rawhide Headband.

Maybe it's just that I don't use a lot of Phoenix gear, but I only really like the bow in terms of weapons. Hollowpoint Arrow, Bird Bread, Crest Crown and the Hours Ring are good too, of course.
>>
>>53099875
Yeah, i'm sitting on a permanent sword/axe specialization already for most, one from mastery one from family, working on bow, so switching isn't a problem.

I've added some expansions so I'm drooling over vespertine for my endgame bow, but I should get hollowpoint arrow I think.
I don't really like the pheonix gear either, except for what you listed.

in what scenarios is the flower arrow worth using, while we're at it
>>
>>53100116
Hmm... good question. I tend to not look at it too hard.

Wait, holy shit. Okay, this thing is designed to kill the Flower Knight.

Alright so the main advantage is roughly three things. First of all, unlike other ammo, using it generates two attacks. Second, it is Deadly 4. So if you have a fully activated Luck Stone, then you're sitting on Deadly 5, which is a 60% chance to critical hit. Third, if either or both of those attacks miss, they generate flower patches, which you can interact with and, very reliably, gain more flower resources and luck tokens for the fight. So, you spend a flower to make an arrow that then gives you 1-2 high crit chances, or 1-2 flowers. In a Blue Savior's hands, this is almost a baby Founding Stone.

I thought initially it sucks because you're forced to archive it after using it, but that's actually a secret strength when fighting the Flower Knight.

I may be wrong but, because the card is archived after use, it is removed from your gear grid. Without it in your Gear Grid, you can gain the full benefit of what used to be a duplicate arrow, meaning you could take a survivor to the Flower Knight fight and unload with Flower Arrows, getting reliable critical hits, or seeding the showdown map with Flower Patches to gather more resources from and to get more luck tokens.

It's a bit less useful against other monsters, who may have less critical hit locations, but it still generates resources for you pretty reliably. Just use the flowers first as bone/hide/organs.
>>
>>53100345
And then, of course, after you beat the Flower Knight, you can use Sense Memory to do a lot of crafting with all those newly generated materials.

If you have left overs of a material you know you won't need, then spend them on making more Flower Arrows so you can generate extra resources on the next fight.
>>
>>53100391
Hm. I was mainly just gonna hunt the knight till i got what I needed (not much, just 1-2 bows)

Hey, I think I asked this last thread, but I never got an answer: do damage tokens apply to brain damage profiles as well?

They shouldn't.

BD is usually done with stars and is largely dependent on Monster Level so I don't think that damage tokens would apply.

>>
>>53107127
Pink stone is basically worth it, if only barely. A free crit on the right spot, can turn things around.

I managed to get Mighty Strike on like three characters by using the Cat Eye Circlet on the Butcher and baiting out the right moments.

The others are WAY too goddamn expensive to bother trying out, though.

Head canon quick bullshit:
Strange Brew: 2-6 you are always considered Frenzied. Other results are the same.
Shiny Sexy Jeweled Thong: 1-2 -1 evasion token until the survivor completes a hunt and tears it off their body.
3-9 +1 to the next intimacy roll this character partakes in. Other results are the same.

It doesn't take much. Only that you don't get you don't spend a huge amount of resources to get your people killed or crippled.

I didn't particularly mean that specific model - just that the line's focus around lamps and source lighting has really allowed a lot of studios to show off an effect that looks incredible when done very well.

I'll accept that I'm no expert, but I have been seeing a lot more in the way of incredible OSL work since the release of these models, even on non-KD models, since the KD models brought OSL-type effects to more of the modelling community's attention.

Dumb fucking question, considering I've already played a campaign up to year 18:
When do things get added to storage?
I know things don't get added back into their respective decks until the end of the settlement phase (so you can't get like 2 lion nuts in one hunt or 6 claws via hunt+showdown events) but do crit wound resource gains auto go into storage? For the purposes of the conviction roll of "lose half your shit in storage" I want to know if that counts the last hunt gained/things individual people have gained from crit wounds.

Also, doubt there's any precedence for it, but i make it so that in a multi person game if their survivor gets a resource in hunt/showdown via a roll they "own" that resource, does anyone else do this?
>>
>>53114078
Oh, I actually realized it says ALL, including storage, so the point is moot, there.
still curious though

>>53114078
One of the settlement steps, I think it was the last one, but I don't have my rulebook at hand, tells you to archive all resources and add them to storage.

Are these solo games? It's a fucking minefield of errors and issues when I play online with friends. Worse, Eskander's version (Achromatic) is the best looking one with the best setup, atmosphere, etc. Absolutely everything is buggy. The character sheets, monster card area, timeline tracker, and damage/equipment trackers stop working and become uneditable. Deleting the candles makes the game run WORSE (seriously, removing a light source should make it better, right?). Should I be looking at a FAQ and troubleshooting these issues somehow?

Also, while we're on the subject, the number of objects loaded into the game causes huge spikes in ping. I only have a 6 Mbps connection, but this usually provides me with a ping in the 60-80 range in most games so what the fuck is happening?

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm brand new to TTS and I'm not sure what I should be doing to help alleviate these issues. I have forwarded ports, enabled NAT, reconnected to the host, and had the host reset and re-host.
>>
>>53117562
I've used Easkander's dingus and most of the stuff you listed has worked fine for me so far, it's the actual scripted shit like the hunts and showdown set up have broken multiple times. In process of moving things over to a fresh file.

Are you sure you haven't locked the Character sheets and timeline sheet by mistake?

Default hotkey is "L" to lock something down, leaving it uninteractable other than hover text. I use it for keeping the terrain tiles stable on the board.

I'd also be interested in anything that would smooth the TTS running, though. I get fairly regular drops to half framerate about 2 every 5 minutes. I've got things on low settings, and my pc is no slouch.

These are solo games, yes.
I played once (to like year 3 tho) with a friend and had no issues, though.
I've literally never had any of what you've mentioned stop working and become uneditable, unless you changed the character sheets to state 2/3 which is what's supposed to happen, i've also never deleted the candles.

Only suggestion is to save an object you have had problems with in a fresh copy of the game, straight from the workshop, delete the one you're having trouble with and paste the one you saved, unlock it so it can be moved/falls into place, and then lock it again, but that's just general advice for any tabletop sim game.

I can't really think of anything that would help the ping except keep containers of things you don't need?
Try to have less dice out, put character sheets away, keep all gear that isn't actively on characters in it's own bag, put monsters back in the game box...
That's about it.
>>
>>53117708
I didn't know that L was a shortcut for locking, but I'll look into that, but I don't think that's the case. I'll attach a grab of what the sheets look like when they bug out and, as added bonus, share one of the MANY errors that occur.

>>53117737
What's this about changing the state of the character sheet?

I don't have problems with lost frames, thankfully!

I will attempt to remove objects from the board, but this has happened a few times as soon as we sat the intro lion on the board.

As just an extra bit of advice, the weaponsmith and leatherworker are absolutely worth spending the initial resources on in order to unlock, but my mileage with the stone circle has varied. If you're swimming in organs, go for it, but I tend to not really feel the need to unlock it. If you don't mind being spoiled a little bit you can always look at the location/its gear and decide that way. I did it that way and I didn't feel like I lost anything from the experience by looking at the gear beforehand. If anything I added to it by now having to make decisions on what gear would be worth it
>>
>>53120377
We got the stone circle because we were, indeed, swimming in organs and fucking nothing but organs (I believe I mentioned that last thread, we've been playing once a week)
Weaponsmith will probably get made simply because there's not that many things to spend bones on anymore, but we still have fuck-all for armor on anyone. No arm or feet, everyone's still in lionclothes, and only two have chest armor. Everyone's got rawhide headbands just so we can take SOME sort of hit there
>>
>>53120525
Do your best to get a leather set and shield before fighting the kingsman. It helps tremendously, especially the shield. I'd suggest hunting a lot of lions, level 2's if you can manage. Other than the resources you normally get from him, there's a hunt event that lets you get 4 more resources for free which is super useful. Pretty sure the lion is good for hides. Antelope I think has a higher chance of giving bones.

On a sidenote, I pretty much always feel pretty prepared for kingsman, but I never feel totally prepared for the butcher. I really think he should be pushed back one year on the timeline. It's such a brutal fight for it to happen so early.

Even if you aren't prepared gear wise, the kingsman can be played around with good strategy and maybe some lucky rolls. The butcher is the opposite, and it seems like I have a 50/50 shot of just getting wrecked. Plus 95% of the time I fight him he seems to have lantern frenzy which is one of the most bullshit cards in the game, not to mention bite.

Kind of ranting at this point, but yeah. Butcher is way too early IMO, and as for your post, try and farm some lion hides.

>>53120760
The first time I got lantern surge I looked at it and didn't think it would be that bad. It's a mood that makes him randomly give the priority target token to one of your survivors, which can not be removed in any way until that survivor dies, and he gains +1 speed and movement. So basically he hunts one single survivor to the ends of the earth, moves faster so you can't run, and hits more often. If he gets lantern frenzy early and doesn't choose your tank, that survivor is just gonna fucking die and there's nothing you can do about it short of getting really lucky on your rolls.

Bite on the other hand is just an attack, but if it lands, you automatically make a severe head injury roll, of which a 1-4 is instant death. So it's...avoidable, if you save your dodges and aren't frenzied, or if you can work around it with headbands and such, but it's just really unsatisfying to get hit literally once and have your head just explode after doing well the rest of the fight. But I guess that's KDM for you.

Honestly the butcher in general just kind of bullshit. I like the fight, believe it or not, and think the theme of it is cool and all of his cards work really well together. He's got a great design. I just think he can be bullshit sometimes and it's an extremely rough fight to put people through year 4.
>>
>>53120942
We got the 'brain damage every turn' mood which caused both the survivors to actually live through the fight to end up frenzied, while the two who didn't didn't hit anything to cause further brain damage before the first died. Because of me. The fight after his OTHER guy got killed by me.
I am not good with traps.
He hit a lot of basic stuff at first, then Hack City (which I survived) and then proceeded to get hit by 6 knife attacks (due to a brand-new legendary lungs) successfully tearing him apart and knocking him down so most of his deck got chunked all at once. Then 'hey he's knocked down, might as well make the most of this' TRAP first fucking thing
>>
>>53121101
I can't blame you, I probably would have done the same thing honestly. Knocking a nemesis down is an adrenaline rush. You aren't thinking properly. Plus I mean, you were gonna hit the trap eventually. May as well be after your blaze of glory.

Also think its funny that hack city, which is like his iconic card (except for maybe the infinite can-can that is kick) is actually pretty easy to live through imo, and gives a fighting art, whereas some of his other cards that kill me way more often don't.
>>
Damage (Condition): A hit damages a survivor if it removes armor points or causes an injury. Hits which are dodged. blocked. or ignored do not cause damage.

Armor Points (f): Recorded on the survivor record sheet. Determined by armor gear in the survivor's gear grid. as well as other effects and events. Each point negates one point of damage to the hit location. Armor points decrease by 1 for each damage they negate.

So, Butcher pushed our shit in, as feels appropriate, however... The rules for Butcher's attack often states "After Damage" or something to that effect. So, it appears that, even if Butcher manages to only do a point of damage to your armor, you take didn't dodge, block, or ignore damage, since damage is defined as it is above. So... you throw on a handful of Bleeding tokens every time he hits you, right? (Not every time; I think maybe one or two of his AI cards don't cause Bleeding but I don't have the cards in front of me, currently.)
>>
>>53124161
Correct. Butcher's whole thing is that he wears you down the longer you fight him -- armor is less useful thanks to the Bleed on many of his cards, and though Infectious Madness does give you a nice boost in doing damage, it also locks away your survival.

However, it should be noted that "After Damage" only applies *once* per AI card. Even if he hits you with three or four attacks, you're still only taking a single bleed token.
>>
One question for people who have any expansions - how many do you use at a time? And how do you determine the mix - is it everything that can fit, or do you tailor for a theme?

>Start settlement phase
>clinging mists
>roll a fucking 10
>Don't have guidepost, sitting on 24 survivors
>Have to debate going on an immediate hunt (sucks, would have to give up 6 endeavor)
>or getting fresh new start with some of the best survivors I've ever made

Should I bite the bullet and make a new settlement? My guys are pretty well geared, but two of them are non-ageless green saviors... and I've got some pretty great gear sitting in camp (Butcher cleaver, sleeping virus flower, 2 founding stones, Death Mask)
that's not even getting into losing a bow and an axe mastery or any of the abilities/fighting arts/permanent stat increases the 4 other combat ready survivors I have
I've never even thought about trying NG+, but I feel like I could use these 2 non ageless green fucks to hunt a lvl 3 gorm twice before they die, possibly work it out two full gormet sets around lantern year 3/4. I've already got parts of it scattered around these guys for the armor points
This is a free 16(15?) years extra before I even need to fight a lvl2 nemesis, but I just can't decide if it's worth giving up so much.
>>
>>53124383
Personally, I just use what I think is both enjoyable to play against and useful for the campaign that I'm going into. I wouldn't normally include the Gorm in a People of the Sun campaign, for instance -- most of the Gorm stuff is just straight unusable for them!
>>
>>53124481
>>53124383
Seconding the gorm bit.
It's a fantastic expansion, make no mistake, but holy shit can it fuck you unless you're determined to get rid of gorm climate.
Lonely tree is also bad, wouldn't include it.
3 is probably the max you should work with, I can't recall an exact reason why beyond "expansions aren't as well balanced as the base game and the base game has balance issues already" or something like it.
3 expanions nets you:
>The Musketeers (all 3 knights, tactics decks can merge BTW)
>Game Over man, Game Over (Manhunter+Slenderman+Gorm)
>FUBAR (DK, Sunstalker, Flower Knight, your choice of variant "people of the")
off the top of my head.
Which are pretty heavy changes.
>>
>>53124573
So without spoiling too much what are Manhunter and Slenderman like?
>>
>>53124404
NG+ is almost always an amazing advantage.

If you can swing it, you can maybe try to get the Understanding loop on the White Lion early on, and see if you can make your guys ageless.

Losing the cleaver isn't a huge deal, since you'll have a chance to get another, ditto the sleeping virus flower. The Death Mask is sort of unfortunate.

These are all already max understanding unfortunately.
Got peerless on two saviors and ageless on the other two.
I guess since at this point I'm going to be aiming to running saviors completely the death mask isn't super useful anymore anyway
I got incredibly fucking damn lucky and got crystal skin on the OG survivor already wearing the death mask really early, it's been so useful for so long because of it.
I forgot that the sleeping virus would be... year 5? since it IS a new settlement so I'd add it to the timeline.
Now, the only debate is: how many gorm should I hunt before I can get the phoenix.
I guess I'll go for it, when would it ever not be an amazing advantage, though? apart from the obvious example of 1/2 survivors with little gear on remaining after showdown

Side question:
Anyone happen to know resource ratios on most monsters, particularly expansion ones.
I know Lion Hide>others, Antelope Organ>others, it certainly feels like gorm is Bone>/=Organ>Hide, pheonix I've never really checked but there's iron, seems to Hide>bone>organ>Iron, though.

>>53124742
I've never actually played them, just done a minor amount of spoiler free research before adding them, might do a quick load into an existing old save and test them out sometime this week though
Slenderman: all about isolating survivors, and it being able to hit you while the reverse is not possible. It replaces armored strangers, which is pretty huge. Nemesis, so it is obviously designed to make the game harder. The fight style fits the slenderman name. It's got a fairly major innovation, that i haven't really looked at, but you can add upon(?)

Manhunter: It's fucking brutal. his gear is pretty good (he's got a gun, for example). you're gonna feel like your survivors are fighting a Hunter. He's gonna be back, over, and over, and over, and you better fucking hope you don't even lose once, cause it's going to be worse. Grimdark as fuck.
>>
>>53124889
It wouldn't be worth it, for example, in a PotStars campaign where you have a large number of uhh... active Constellations. I wish the super survivors had a proper name in that campaign.

Or when you want to do it, but you'd be leaving something that is legitimately too valuable to lose, like some of the Green Knight gear. Or the Perfect Slayer (1/2000 chance to get it, if my horrible math skills haven't failed me yet again).

Or if it's the furthest you ever got in a campaign and you really want to feel accomplished by beating it.

Mostly it just makes the decision to NG+ painful as opposed to obviously beneficial.

Oh! If it happens in the first two years then the benefits are minimal and you have to go through a lot of ground you already covered. Note, it'd still be AN advantage, but going on another hunt could potentially be as advantageous.
>>
>>53124987
>Full Green knight gear apparently makes making a perfect slayer look like a rawhide headband
>it's fucking 1/2000 chance for the slayer
what the FUCK poots

>Had to give up 14 scrap, 7 of which was Iron
kinda sucks, but nowhere near what you're describing, goddamn.

Any suggested expansion to add in NG+?
Running just FK and Gorm for some reason I can't remember, but might as well add 1 more if I'm going to be doing those 14 years over again.

I think it's actually 1/1100, since you have to get the initial event (1/100) which gives you the item for the second event (1/100) and that one HAS to come second or else it's wasted. So we have the initial roll and then the second roll... If I was better at statistics I could say with certainty how unlikely it is to make the thing. Otherworldly Luck can help a lot with this since it basically doubles your chances.

But yeah.

>>
>>53086497
So, like, how do you even get into this game?

Do you just have to wait until a new kickstarter is running?
>>
>>53126035

Not entirely.

The first kickstarter was to fund initial production. They made enough for all of the backers, plus a number for retail sail through their own store after. These eventually ran out, and printing new boxes is really front heavy on the costs.

So Poots made a second kickstarter to print an updated version of the game, and fund new content. There will be retail boxes available after those new core boxes are printed as well. Exactly how many, I cannot say.

One thing to hope for is that the second kickstarter is MUCH more successful than the first. Poots walked away with more than 10 million.

If he plays his cards right, he might be able to set up a more reliable production scheme where he makes enough profit to finance new boxes, aka how business works. If that's the case, while new boxes will still be a boom and bust sort of thing, we wont have to get a kickstarter every time he wants to make more boxes.
>>
It'll never happen, but I'd kill for a digital version of the game. No setup, easy accessability, no having to pay thousands of dollars to play the damn thing... I know you can play it via Tabletop Simulator, but I'd like something that streamlines the whole situation. Plus, I'd like to support Pooter

>>
>>53126756

That said, KDM has a glimmer of hope too.

Humans CAN survive in the darkness. The bone witch proves it.

And then you have places like the Great City, which while built on slavery seems to be entirely human run and controlled.

Humans can fight back against the Golden Entity. The black knights used to be a thing. They just lost the war.

Imagine KDM as that first episode of Gurren Lagann. Humans are basically cattle at the mercy of monsters. The situation seems hopeless, but its not impossible for the humans to turn the tables. They just havent done it yet.

We see multiple times in KDM that humans can become something more than human. Usually monsters, but sometimes cool shit like people of the stars. We dont have to stay weak.
>>
>>53125145
Exactly, it's shit, now get out and never come into KD threads again, and of course don't you ever buy anything from the store, it's hard enough already to not miss releases before they go out of stock.

>>
>>53127949
Trap: A type of monster hit location. A trap cancels all the attacker's hits, ends their attack. and causes the monster to stand, in addition to the actions listed on the card. After the Trap's actions are resolved, shuffle the entire hit location deck.
>>
>>53128731

Unclear.

The golden entity is responsible for:

The watcher, the Hand, the Kingsmen, the Lantern Kings, the lion knights, the holy mothers and the wetnurse... I think maybe the forge god too? The scribe wirks with/for the entity, but Im not 100% sure the GE made him or if he is another godlike being.
>>
>>53128205
Can, but even with the Dragon God trying to help it's a very slow process wrought with failures, often catastrophic.

Everything that's good enough to protect the new humans from monsters is usually more dangerous than what they were being protected from and just too lazy to nom on them.

Even well meaning ones, like the aforementioned dragon, ends in catastrophe because his children, the ones he tested, forged, reshaped, and ultimately died at the hands of, themselves die when they try to consume his heart.

Only a few very, very special people can manage to survive and the best most can hope for is to survive their "protector" and make their way to another village going through the same cycle.
>>
>>53128205
What is wrong with being a monster anyway?
>>
>>53129124
Nothing.

There is nothing but monsters in the setting anyway. Humans are just a weak type of monster.

If they were gobbos though, we wouldn't care so much when they die in droves.
>>
>>53129228
So, how come people don’t actively strive to turn themselves into powerful monsters?
>>
>>53129262
Do you not? I mean, I'm always looking to make ageless Saviors, even trying to give some of them crystalline skin.

That's the entire point of the People of the Stars campaign.

Flower Knight, Lion God, and Spidicules all have methods of becoming more monstrous...
>>
>>53129124

You tend to eat people and not play well with others.

Solitary monsters that feed on people have no need to get stronger. So they never rise to challenge the Golden Entity.

Unless you're running red saviors really really early, which I guess makes this valid.

Green Charm Scavenger Kit Monster Grease
Bird Bread First Aid Kit Satchel
Some Weapon Bone Sickle Leather Shield

7 armor on all locations, a block, 50% protection from instant death and +2 Evasion, you can spend an action to gain +1 armor on all locations and the priority target token to act as a better tank. If you have Shield Mastery, then you can be sitting on 9 armor after the first round while also providing a number of benefits to the rest of the survivors during the showdown. Bird Bread and the Monster Grease were included for the defensive options, but you can replace the Grease with Bandages to remove the risk of bleeding to death, the Bird Bread with Elder Earrings to power level someone. Lantern Glaive fits in here well, also.

If you get Crystal Skin it's now 9 armor starting and can inflate to 11 under the right circumstances.

You could even put the Silk Body Suit on the same character to make the monster work hard for every single hit it gets.
>>
>>53129696
Hitpointsgaming is a little cringy, but the guy/guys playing through it mean well and the quality is pretty good. They also have a lot of videos of various fights at different years, so you can pick and choose if you only want to see certain sections. I've watched a few of their videos, and I occasionally skip through a section here and there (like when they're trying to decide between making this or that gear) but they at least give a good overview of what playing the game is like.
>>
>>53131574
Oh wait, forgot the innate Green Affinity. So that build (which isn't even optimized the more I look at it) is 8 base, +1 shield master, +1 bird bread, +2 crystal skin.
>>
>>53131574
What the fuck, this is just unfair to the monsters my dude.
>>
>>53131747
I can make it worse.

Replace Bird Bread with Arc Bow/Vespertine Bow, put a Beacon shield in the lower left slot. You lose some of the tanking potential, but get a high powered ranged attack and two more armor in each slot. (Obviously, have your Savior become an Acanthus Doctor on top of it, if possible. I'm going to be taking this guy to fight the DBK soon.)

Or replace Bird Bread with Tool Belt

Red and Blue Saviors are tougher to twink since they don't get natural armor.

now that I mention gorm, regeneration suit could potentially (in NG+, i guess) replace satchel (acanthus doctor is hard to reliably get, right?) because with Vespertine/Arrow you could basically just consistently get stomach lining i think?
Via NG+ lvl 3s or just cats eye+an arrow.

It's not stinky, and also isn't armor, and gets +2 armor and stops permanent injuries without spending a turn/resources like the second half acanthus doctor needs to, but still works with the first half.
No wonder poots is nerfing saviors.
>>
>>53132038
Like I said, Greens are easy. The only tough part of that is getting the Crystal Skin and the Barber Surgeon. Everything else is stuff you're going to be getting anyway.

I'm normally sitting on 3-5 Monster Grease, a Green Charm takes only 3 organs, Leather Shields are a must as soon as they are available, and I normally have at least one Bone Sickle the moment I can make them. Zanbato can replace the Bird Bread early on as a weapon

If you're playing base game, replace the Satchel with another Medkit just for the affinities. Barber Surgeon is tough to get quickly, but not like... actually tough.

I'm also still of the opinion that most monster-specific armors aren't worth it, but I haven't gone outside of the base game much, yet. The Sunstalker armor set looks great though.

>>53132193
Acanthus Doctor, as long as you have Sculpture, is a 40% chance, after you make a Vespertine Bow, and a 20^ chance to kill your candidate/Green Savior. Otherworldly luck fucks with that, making it 50% success, 10% death. I mean, people will die regardless. But for Acanthus Doctors, each Green Affinity give +1 armor and +1 Str. token. Combo THAT with one of the Nightmare Fruit, uhh... I'm not going to remember the name, but basically you swap your strength tokens for luck tokens at the cost of all your current survival.

Did I mention how much I like Abyssal Sadist?

Nowhere. Pic related. The game does not have fluff blurbs describing how things work and are -- instead it's all scattered to the five winds with little bits here and there and only in experiencing them do you get a view of the bigger picture.

The first one contain lore for miniatures, from before KDM was published as a game. The second one is a collection of developer notes and comments.

Is there a print and play version floating around yet?

I have better scans and i'm feeling a bit generous today. So here you go https://volafile.org/r/brn68xkm
Be careful tho' the scans are very high res you can even see the CMYK pattern if zoom in enough so depending of the program you use to view them it might or not crash.

>One survivor got all this
Granted, it took NG+ and focusing on the only two ageless survivors I have, but still.
Jesus fuck, I really need to put a green charm on them, It feels like they're just begging to die at any time.

the armor sets are placebos for green savior armor or shield specilization from another characters mastery
>>
>>53135673
IIRC there were scans of the cards and rules back when 1.0 released but I have no idea what happened to them.
>>
So is there anywhere I can just download all of the art for this? Surely someones been stockpiling and saving it somewhere.
>>
>>53137181
I've got this from a quick search.
Don't think there's more.

Here is a artbook that was released has a reward for the kickstarter it contains some uncropped and uncensored artwork from the core rulebook nothing from the expansions tho'

>>
>>53137122
gee billy how come your tyrant let you have TWO weapon proficiencies?
>>
>>53137265
Do you not keep the weapon proficiency card once you hit 3, or if you inherit the levels from a parent?
Also, other character with mastery, regardless.
I don't need to put shield on there since it''s easy to remember, but I forgot shit like red fist/bow mastery constantly.

If you switch your proficiency you lose your specialization if you had earned it. You do, however, keep your mastery even if you switch, so potentially one ageless survivor could have multiple masteries.
>>
>>53137311
I thought the rulebook said something along the lines of you're free to switch at any point but you lose all proficiency. I assumed this meant you lose the skill too but without the rulebook in front of me you might be right, though with the "rule of death" I dunno.

That picture is literally a crop from the scanned rulebook. It states that you lose all levels of weapon proficiency including specializations.

You keep masteries though, as per the second image I posted.

>>53137397

Thanks m8s.
I've got the mastery, but I think I might have had 2-3 survivors before running around with bow or axe mastery (can't remember which) when they shouldn't have.
Didn't make much of a difference since I was using them for utility, but still kind of annoying to realize this late in the game.

Fuck me, I want it just for that second bit.
I guess I know what I'm adding to the current campaign.
although, how many attacks does Manhunter have that hit on X number regardless of evasion or attacks that do tons of brain damage, those still kinda wreck my guys

I actually found those while looking around for one thats decently formatted I can reupload them if you like.

Whats the best way to complete the gorm set bonus early? besides the regen suit, it has such awkward squares to match up.

>first time player
>group decides to pick a fight with the Kingsman the first time he rolls up because he was going to execute our best guy

Jesus Christ what a mistake. We threw six founding stones at him and he still killed two of us and essentially retired a third.

>he's coming back in a few years at a higher level

Fuck me. Butcher was babycakes compared to that cunt.
>>
>>53138688
I remember when I first fought the butcher and Founding Stoned his cleaver, what a learning experience.
>>
>>53138586
I mean what other equipment do you match with the set, to get the full effect of all the affinities, considering you're still in early game. So lets say basic buildings + gormery.
>>
>>53138688
Yeah... the Kingsman doesn't fuck around.

Get them shields up, boyo. Two blockers and a bow at minimum.
>>
>>53138754
Oh.
Greater Gaxe/any other left red affinity, and you shouldn't be trying to get full effects of a set that doesn't have the affinities you need for it's affinities while you're that early game. Wait till you can actually make each affinity color you need on it's own with a set, and then decide what abilities to unlock
Also: don't waste parts. Try to only enough of items that later/other survivors will use them.
Like 1-2 monster grease? A-OK. 3 is pushing it unless you've got something specific in mind
You should never need 4. That's 2 completely wasted organs, and that's just the cheapest item in the game.
>>
>>53138766
The first fight with the Kingsman is pretty fun, he hits you with some weird shit, but it's still pretty enjoyable.

Lvl 2 onward tho....fucking hymm is one of the most annoying cards in the core set.
>>
>>53138766

Only reason the now crippled survivor lived is because he had the steel shield from the finale hunt event and a bone dagger to keep his survival up. He still took 4 different severe injuries with permanent stat penalties.

I bought some (shitty looking though) palstic bushes who I still gotta paint.
I just made four seperate squares for each tiles occupied by the grass so I can remove them piece by piece if someone is standing in one spot.

First thought is to apply it to whatever bastard version of Surge the People of the Sun get.

Not sure if that actually applies though, since I think that breaks things slightly.
>>
>>53139884
I'm pretty sure it makes your attacks this turn devastating... which is more useful for not clearing traps, not so much for using more than once.
People of the sun has an ability that makes you able to surge for all your +str tokens so it's still existing... but why would you do it.
>>
>>53140152
Devastating and Savage should stack, right? Since they are different terms?
>>
>>53140274
Yeah, they will. Devastating hits every time, savage is after the first critical, getting both on the same weapon would be fairly hard, doing it and also having a good amount of luck/it being an axe master is even harder.

Spoiler about receiving the fighting art
the first survivor you nominate during the MH expac gets the skill.

And I haven't fought level 3 yet but
iirc every turn he does one of those as a free action.
