Let's hope they've actually made a way to be able to keep play a mono-Harlequins

Skitarii have AdMech if they need an HQ, and basically everyone consider those two faction one and the same, but Harlequins lack an HQ choice and taking a Farseer or an Archon would be against the concept of fielding an army composed of just Harlequins

Maybe they'll make the Troupe Master an actual HQ instead of just being the unit sergeant
I'd like them to give him the High Avatar stats from the RT compendium

Hello! I have loads of experience with AOS but have been out of the loop with 40K for a couple editions. I have been lurking the teased 8th edition rules and find them very appealing and am planning to get in at the start with some Deldar.

Shooting and mobility are the things to have in AOS and its shaping up to be a similar situation in 8th so I have the following ideas:

the bird guys (pic related)
jut fighters and bombers
long range lance boats
venoms full of lance shooters

basically the idea is to just kite the ever-living shit out of everything with what will probably be some of the highest movement characteristics in the game while removing key units from the board at my leisure.

thoughts?

only the head is from the tyrant
the long tentacles are from a harpy's spore mine
the short ones from a genestealer
the big flat tongue at the bottom is a trygon's but with a genestealer's implant tongue at the tip
the little mandibles and the teeth at the end of the long tentacles were cut off from spare termagants' weapons
finally the additional eyes are actual pieces of sprues, cut into a proper shape and glued inside carvings done in the tyrant's cheekbones and temples

the point is: you can slap whatever leftover bit on the tyrant's head
for a while I was playing with the idea of giving it an organic gasmask biomorph looking like a facehugger, but considering this head is going to be for the converted malanthrope I may reserve the rebreather for the biocannons-heavy walkrant

That sounds fun. I also love having Straken floating about. I would like to run a pure Guard melee deathstar, but Inquisitors and Imperial Agents Priests have more options that are pretty great and a bit cheaper.

Yarrick is great though. I have a 3rd party female Commissar with 2 Powerfists that I run with Deathmask and Powerfist.

Do you put both Commissars together in a squad or do you run one with Straken? Do you use 2 blobs?

I like to have one Conscript and one Infantry blob.

It's mostly alright, but the cover system is made of arse. Cover worked fine before, the bubbles in useless places are stupid.

Also, while I appreciate that weapons kill stuff fast like they should, stuff dies too fast to do anything about it. Whole armies die in moments and there isn't enough time to micro everything.
>>
>>53080335
How did they not get shot to death? I love using Straken, but his squad gets buttfucked every game because my opponents know he hits hard and buffs my blobs.

How do you hop them out of the Chimera? Do you do it behind cover? If I hop out to assault they either get counter-charged or shot to death.

I like Hereticus because it's the most space detective of the 3, which I find to be the most interesting part of Inquisitors. Chasing the enemy within and dealing with enemies that have psychic powers is pretty neat on a story level.

Malleus is cool in an action way, but when you have stuff like the Grey Knights, I think they can do it better.

Xenos is okay, but Xenos has the best current gear for tabletop.
>>
>>53080370
Mad rush. I let my enemies "unwrap their present". Guard are a mysterious and poorly understood beast where I play. Most think I'm sitting a wall of tanks down and going to just gunline. That's what the internet says IG armies do. The idea of Armored Calvery IG shocks and baffles them. Little mortals shouldn't be so aggressive. My Leman Russes are viewed as nigh immortal tank shoking template factories. Its hilarious.

Also remember that the total fear is the best that planet came up with. When that fear and big brother mentality forced a citizen to report strangeness he heard in the dark which was actually a Genestealer Cult which was purged. When a family turns their kid in for being a Psyker. It saved the planet if/when they kid would explode into a Warp Portal that would begin a Daemonic Incursion.

We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

They go into them a bit in the Damocles Anthology. To fix overpopulation on those hiveworlds, terraform them, and boost the production capabilities of the Tau core worlds, millions of hivers are put on ships and sent to the core Tau worlds where they are settled there and adjusted to their new lives with support from the Sept authorities.

According to a Gue'vesa protag it was remarkable how the desperate people of the hives demeanor changed from that of despair and fear into hope and contentment when they saw their new homes.

Orks are literally space niggers, they aren't intelligent enough to understand concepts like peace (well technically they can't because it's written in their DNA) or diplomacy. Where did the Tau get the food to feed what's basically 3 Chinas in an area the size of New Jersey while moving them hundreds of light years to new planets? How did they convince that many people to leave given how many people hate leaving even the shittiest ancestral homes?

How did they control this many people immediately after toppling the old regimes? The Hive should be in absolute chaos and anarchy. How did the Tau find enough ships to move this many people in any reasonable amount of time? How did they convince the destination planets to take on so many refugees? How did they build the infrastructure of the destination planets such that they had work to do for these refugees? And how did they resolve the gang wars taking place in any given underhive?

I could accept these issues being resolved in, say, a particularly happy Star Wars novel, but at this point the writers can't even pretend the Tau are anything but a Utopian society in what is supposed to be "The grim darkness of the 41st millennium" in which there is "only war".

Except the needs are different. For the big E he was worried about Space Marines replacing Humanity. He expected to succeed and planned for the future.

Rowboat needs as many Marines as he can get he'll worry about the consequences of his actions IF there is a future. In fact having to worry about Space Marines replacing humanity is something he'd rather WANT to deal with because it means that the Imperium has survived and humanity has a future.

I doubt that, Gulliman has already stated how disgusted he is with the imperium, and he holds the same values the emperor did. Female space marines will never happen, and it has nothing to do with sexism. Women are the ones that get pregnant, a human man could in theory impregnate a female marine, but not the other way around cause science and shit

I don't want to get too in-depth with this shit as we have the argument every other week, but would marines even produce marine offspring (were such a thing possible)? Since all the implanting and tampering is done to a teenager, his DNA isn't being altered so at the genetic level he should possess a "human" gamete. Never mind the fact that they are likely mentally if not chemically gelded to avoid distraction from duty or temptation of corruption. Am I right in remembering that actual genetic engineering is highly taboo in 40k, or is that just cloning? In which case, what the hell are vat-grown creatures?

I mean heck, vasectomies today don't have a 100% success rate for men because the biological imperative is so strong it can just undo having the tubes tied/cut off. Honestly if they did want to go down the female marines route (I don't give a shit really, we have SoB/SoSs and if they get off their asses could make the odd female guard model) I'd probably have a line in the implant process along the lines of "Female reproductive organs removed to make room for more implants/muscle" or whatever. Marines are living weapons, any form of reproduction is superfluous, not to mention dangerous as a form of corruption.

>I’ve been back here on Dal’yth these last five months… a half tau’cyr, convalescing. They’ve got me working alongside the water caste in the acclimatisation programme, dealing with new commonwealth citizens relocated from across the Damocles Gulf. I watched the gue’la coming in from Mu’gulath Bay. Pale, half-starved, terrified. Watching their fear go is the most remarkable thing. Watching their amazement grow is the second most remarkable thing. I thought Gormen’s Fast was a dump, but compared to the hives of Agrellan, it was okay, and this place is a paradise.

>You give us all a choice, but there really is no choice, not a real one. I know that.

>remember when Hincks got it, gunned down by those swine outside of Hive Chaeron. I went to see his widow a few days ago. Nice place she’s got now. Good support from the sept authorities. I can’t help think what kind of life he’d have back on Gormen’s Fast. Probably be half-blind from working in the gossamer plants. Or dead. And yet there he is, cared for and fed and as strong as an ambull calf. Remarkable.

>I’m still waiting for the catch.

-Damocles Anthology

Between the Imperium and life in the Tau Empire, according to the Gue'vesa protag (who was a former IG), there is no choice. No choice as in, the Tau Empire is the real choice. Staying in the Imperium where human life is disdainfully discarded is madness.

Three books, the first is by far the best, the second is not quite as good but still decent and the third is patchy - at some points it's as good or better than the first, at some points the plot goes cliched and dull. What else can you expect from a YA series, though, and they're certainly worth a read. Or five, in my case, because the world is just superb and the art is gorgeous. It's set on a flying airship whale, one side (Entente) went full biopunk, Central Powers went for dieselpunk industrialism. In the subsequent books they bring in other cultures - Japan and America oth have strange hybrids, the Ottomans put a distinct mythological spin on it all, and the Russians are biopunk with a distinctly savage twist. Fighting Bears are more fun the size of houses and carrying autocannons.

I for one didn't notice any change in quality. Haley did go for the odder interpretation of the lore in that the Imperium is trying to suppress the truth of Chaos' existence even though Cadian Regiments are still common. But that's the only real issue I can think of.
>>
>>53083029
Both are great imo. Maybe I had been waiting for Shadowsword which made me ignore some flaws but it's really good, judt like the first one. Maybe the person who told you that wanted to see more orks? Some of the action is a bit telegraphed in, like you know that there's something that is going to happen, because of OOC knowledge, but it is still well represented.

The chemistry between the crew is really a part that I enjoyed.
1st one was about the hero fitting in a new group where he waw the newbie. 2nd is about him and his crew actually becoming a group. I really recommend reading Iron Harvest before the 2nd novel, it'll really help give ome background for the 2nd book.

Isnt that the way lore worked always?

We dont notice it because we are given the perspectives of people in power that knows things average citizens dont know about. (Marines, Inquisitors etc.)

The average citizen knows that warps exists and is filled with bad dudes that can steal your soul, and there are heretics that follow those bad dudes.
But that is the extent of their knowledge unless they have first hand experience of a daemonic incursion and were allowed to live ( like cadians, unfortunately not like people of armageddon )

>>
>>53082417
Literally the only reason they can do anything like that is because they're all but unnoticed and the magic of plot prevents an army of daemons from popping out of the heads of thousands of gue'vesa psykers because reasons.
>>
>>53082767
Tau aren't quite post-scarcity, though you are right that they aren't communist

They have a caste system, which goes against some of the ideas of that, but also have other aspects that prevent them from being a full communist society.

A prime example would be the use of mercenaries and some of the focus on exterior trade. It seems clear that some Tau cities, stations, or worlds are set up more as spaceport where goods and money can flow more freely. Similar setups to Hong Kong I would imagine.

Thus while there is oversight and large socialist leanings among the Tau Empire, there are clearly some spots that are allowed to operate more independently in order to keep things running smoothly.

They also seem to have a great deal of efficiency with their food production and medical tech though, which does mean feeding the masses something simple isn't a huge concern. However, there is still a degree of room for advancement and for spending one's time and money on specific leisures that one enjoys.

I would imagine the Tau work more akin to the EU than any sort of communist nation.

SS

It was super clear

Spoiler Alert:
When the crew of the Baneblade (Currently in a Shadowsword on loan from another crew for reasons I will not go into) get a glimpse of deamons through a warp gate, a Commissar tagging along with them threatens to execute them so they don't tell anyone

I don't know why when they hang out with a bunch of Cadians who probably saw deamons manifesting often enough anyways but maybe I'm misinterpreting things.

No it wasn't, but I can respect a bad joke

I just don't like the regular scout heads.

And I have a bunch of old metal scouts lying around.

Don't worry now that you've pointed it out I'll write 14/88 under all their bases.
>>
>>53083526
Well you post number ends in 3526 and 3+5 and 2+6 = 8 and 8 and 88 is neo-nazi code that also stands for SS.

We on to you!
>>
>>53083554
I love the old metal scouts -- even more when comparing them with the plastic weird ass ones.

I've also been thinking really hard about selling all my plastic cadians and going for an all-metal 3rd edition cadian army
>>
>>53083540
To be fair, the BT foes say he'd have killed them himself if he did no deem them strong enough to resist Chaotic corruption. It's also a canon interesting positionning of zealots Black Templars: Knowing Chaos is fine, it tests your faith, what doesn't kill you make you stronger, yada yada.
Golff and Shoam best of the crew.
>>
>>53082417

We'll see what happens once Tau start getting pushed to the wall by Chaos.
>>
>>53083572
Excuse me. 88 is HH. Heil Hitler. Get your alt-right codes right.

And yet there's the forced part of the caste system.

Cross caste relations are... discouraged, strongly.

As in "the less useful of you is being shipped of to the front lines" the other one will be matched with a pre-approved partner of correct caste and optimal genetic compatibility, for your own and the greater good"
>>
>>53083605
nu uh, 88 is HH which stands for Horus Heresy. he's in the wrong general is all
>>
>>53083379
yah sorry a poor turn of phrase. I get that the Tau do not have everything they want on demand all the time. My point (which I didn't make clear, my bad) was that they're really beyond contemporary economic systems because they have resources and "capital" (can't think of a better word) in such abundance that private capital ownership and infrastructure would be pointless. Which granted is sort of what Marx believed would eventually happen with capitalism and then pave the way for a communism, except in this case it seems to have resulted in a Ultra-Utilitarian Platonic Republic
>>
>>53082520

As much as we hate the Tau, it's important not to forget that the Imperium actually is a repressive, authoritarian hellhole with a callous disregard for human life.
>>
>>53083577

Yeah I don't like the plastic ones either. I do love the classic look for the old metal ones but their rigidity makes them feel dated. And I'm not about to glue their heads back on and green stuff necks to make them more dynamic. The scions heads are a good fit for them.
>>
>>53083640
Sure, but everyone else is far worse, dying or a match-stick trying to compete with a napalm-tornado
>>
>>53083619
While it might sound forced, you do have to remember that the tau castes are selectively bred for their roles for thousands of years now. It's like you had a hummingbird, penguin, ostritch and eagle and you had to give them task to do things. Obviously you wouldn't put a hummingbird to murder rabbits or ostritch to fetch underwater stuff.
>>
>>53083540

I dont think cadians are that indiscreet to talk about daemons or warp stuff to other regiments. They are afterall a proven regiment while others around the imperium are not.
>>
>>53083625
Oh snap, guess I'll just blam myself out.

The Imperium is like Chile, Argentina or Brazil.

Most of it is shit, but they have some pretty nice stuffs in small pockets.

I read recently that Chile is on the 33 place regarding healthcare. Think the USA was on the 36. Not much I know but I was surprise we had better healthcare than most of the world even better than Wall makers.

In other words the Imperium is a competent third world country.
>>
>>53083705
desu chile is hardly third world, with the literacy, education and healthcare rates there.

I'd say the Imperium is a lot more like Paraguay than any other place: most of it is dirty and poor, some of it is pretty cool, but even the cool parts aren't as cool as some regular parts in, say, Denmark
>>
>>53083768
Considering how hard the USSR, communist revolution and the USA screws us up it is rather impressive.
But don't worry our regressive left is gaining power I really hope we don't pull a Venezuela
>>
>>53083768
Ain't nothing cool about Denmark.
It's just safe.
>>
>>53083768

Closest example for imperium would be soviet russia.
>>
>>53083805
unless you get another Pinochet, you're fucked to end up in a socialist hellhole t b h
>>
>>53083675
It's been *A* thousand years since "the terror"
Back then they were just tribes with different aptitudes, aside from the Air caste who were already then different for all the others.
>>
Anyone got the epub or pdf for carrion throne? I'd greatly appreciate it, can't afford to buy books atm.
>>
>>53083822
That would be the Tau. They even had a "cast" system in the sense of different levels of equal people.
>>
>>53083822
...I can see that, with the mob standing in for rogue traders and siberia for.. the shitworlds.
>>

>>
>>53083863
So the Imperium and the Tau are the same but with different levels of fail?
>>
>>53083878
USAfag? You seem to be only one that can't discuss politics without going full retard.

Beside it is within 40k. We are just making comparison with real world examples.
>>
>>53083885
More or less. Tau are USSR, Imperium is 13-14th century Christianity. Vastly different world views but very similar effect on the constituents.
>>
>>53083942
Now I have a song stuck in my head

"I'am the man that arranges the blocks"
>>
>>53083885
and different scales, and different ethics, and different economic systems.

But in that they're totalitarian governments that don't care if YOUR feelings are hurt, yeah they're the same.

Tau is just not a big enough clusterfuck yet.
Everything is still withing range to supply and command directly.

..Well before the daemonic space-fire at least.
Expecting fourth sphere shit to get tough now, but I thing that'll help deepen Tau, make them a much more interesting faction, when parts run out, praise for noble sacrifice become silence and there just aren't enough caste specialists around to stay pure in their roles.

Farsight Enclaves but with less fire warrior dominance.
>>
>>53084049
Yah till now the Tau have had it easy.

Wonder if instead "lol 30k stuff in 40k" the old Mechanicus vault unleashed some old scrap code or demonic virus into de vulnerable Tau Systems.

Chaos Tau AI intentionally dicking them over would had been a nice twist
>>
>>53084049
There is no 4th sphere. The Necrons are going to start eating the Tau Empire. The Empire is right in the middle of the biggest, strongest dynasty.
>>
>>53084098
Well if anyone wants to stop the Tau, the time for it is right now. Longer they are allowed to exist the harder they'll get to get rid of. The pace they are advancing is just stellar.
History will decide who's right.
>>
>>53084229
Well it sure as fuck isn't going to be the Imperium now that the rift is between Terra and the Tau.
Necrons are the best bet, followed by Chaos then Nids.
>>
Is Shadow War in any of the Megas I dont see it
>>
Is eviscerator any good? Or should I just take another flamer?
>>
>>53084368

Maybe, just hear me out, try the Shadow Wars thread?
>>
>>53084368
>>53072868
>>
>>53084299
It's not? the Tau Empire is on the same side of the Rift, and still right next to Macragge.
>>
>>53084463
Guilliman is ruling the Imperium from Terra though, isn't he?
The Ultras are probably busy getting the imperium in line with Guilliman's vision rather than going on a crusade against the Tau.
>>
>>53084525
The Indomitus Crusade would like a word with you
>>
>>53084569
You mean the crusade against heretics, daemons and traitors? The crusade that explictly left "xenos" unmentioned. The crusade whose leader is an puppet to eldar? Sure.
>>
>>53084625
If the Tau attacks Maccrage, Guiliboy will retaliate. But as it stands, only the Eldars are powerful enough to be worthy of an alliance.
Tau are just a singled out minor race among the multitude that the Imperium fights on a daily basis after all.
>>
>>53084747
>>53084747
>>53084747
Lets'a go.
>>
>>53084699
I'm sure there are more Comissars than proper Tau Soldiers.
With how small Tau are it is kind of insulting to the older and bigger players they try to pose them as a threat.

They should have stay as an example of xeno empires and as a future posible threat if they continue their united empire thingy
>>
>>53083912

>Why China
China is the world's last surviving empire of any importance. China is huge with a massive bureaucracy and a mixed economy with some aspects of it under strict state supervision and other sections more or less laissez-faire. As such there are actual geographical areas in China dedicated either under state ownership or privately to the production of a single good, like there is a place that's name literally translates to "hat town" can you guess what they do there? (in much the same way forge-worlds, mining worlds, hive worlds etc exist in the Imperium). China is also authoritarian and brutal when it comes to threats to the nation or system, and at times individuals use this power for their personal gain (as in the Imperium). However China as a nation state is not the China that most denizens deal with on a regular basis. Much like in the Imperium different administrative districts have different laws and different levels of bureaucracy and corruption, life In Ganzu is going to be very different to life in Beijing and for the most part you're going to be more interested in local policies, news and laws than you are with the Nation (or Imperium) at large.

Sure they're not exact analogues, the Administratum is not the communist party and the Imperium isn't exactly courting Xenos to trade with and I doubt that GW had China in mind when designing the Imperium but I think the comparison is still valid.

>Why 14th CE Christendom
Much the same applies honestly, in addition local authorities are given functional autonomy in return for paying their tithes and following a few ground rules and or course you have the clergy on hand to "advise" local rulers and spread the good word standardising dogma. Much like the Ecclesiarchy. Knightly houses which operate semi-autonomously but with the sanction of the Church, much like Space marines do. And a general understanding that heretics, blasphemers and non-Christians are fair game.
>>
>>53084789
Instead they demolished 2 imperial cruades. It would be pretty funny if Imperium decided to sent every comissar they had to beat the shit out of tau and the logistical hellscape of that would be the straw that breaks the camels back and allows Armless the harmless to finally break into Sol system.
>>
>>53084789
But that is what they still are. That hasn't changed.
>>
Holy fuck, are the 40k generals always this awful?
