I was.. Inspired for some variation rules in 3.pf to fix the martial/noncaster - caster divide.
What if, if a PC was trained/had put a rank in a class skill, it could do all sorts of cool shit by checking with a completely different mechanic?
For instance, you could roll a DC 25 acrobatics to run up 21 m/35 ft a vertical wall, by having the DC to all checks just cause you're trained in a class one? I guess monks could just Naruto it all the way up a toweralso post high, drunk or otherwise inebriated castors

I find it a more honest way to blend cool mundane, heroic shit without completely bending the game backwards with 4.0 stuff, mechanically... But the ideas they had for flavour in those books were sometimes amazing.also I know, i am but the lowliest of phone posters

I adapted Dragonstar, an old 3.0 sci-fantasy space setting, part of the way up to Pathfinder. The divide is a lot smaller when martial PCs can have laser guns, magneto-boot, optical camo, and jetpacks. If you're wondering "what about magical enchantment / charms?". Robotic minions and assistants, yo.

I was honestly already thinking about doing something similar, copying conpects from other media. In my setting a put a steampunk !notRevolutionEraUSA that uses dreadnoughts, or Warmahordes if they can get their hands on enough wizards, bionic implants from a crazed dwarven engineer that basically made a mountain-sized Pascal machine, advanced firearms, chainaxes, chainbayonets, wrist-mounted flamethrowers and rocket launchers (think XCOM 2), and that kind of shit to let that bunch of criminal that are my PCs loot... I'll take a look to that too!
