They were explicitly to pad out the schedule, anon. Distribution channels wanted a steady stream of books for their revenue. This lead to the supplement treadmill, minimal research time windows, and bad editing.

In the giant, smoking crater that was M20 they did do one interesting thing. They provided the future fate sidebars so that you could pick and choose between the foundational concepts of your game from three editions. I've collected them all here.

It really is, that's why you either stack up Stealth, swarm with more Minions than Prey can keep up with or go unblockable.

As for whatshisface and retainer trickery, I guess it might work if you build around it, though I don't think it will be that much better than just swarming with Cap 1 little shits from Embraces.

Russia's not communist though, unless this is for a game set during the Cold War

Cool idea otherwise - still works in the modern day, the combination of a Charon-style oligarch-owned corporation with some Kremlin-backed covert ops group would make for a great faction.

>>
>>53040848
I did run a brief campaign of WrtO that lasted about 5 sessions. It was certainly interesting. I had a lot of fun playing up the weirder aspects of the setting and especially bureaucratic mess that is the Heirarchy. Much fun was had in a scene where a Silent Legion recruiter convinced one of the PCs (who was a murder victim) to join his legion. The character was killed in a hobo fight over drug money so the recruiter used that angle to say the PC was *technically* a victim of despair.

The players also got the hang of shadow-guiding after the first session. As a GM I just had to introduce the idea the shadows exist to make the story interesting and not to ever take away any spotlight from the Psyche's player, and the group rolled with it. It also helped keep players who would otherwise be not present in a scene stay engaged with the ongoing session by shadow-guiding.

All in all it was a fun experience. My only regret is that the game fell apart because of IRL obligations, but hey, that happens.
>>
>>53045577
Your point?

>>53045646

Calm down kiddo. I mean that if he created the gargoyle before the Convention of Thorns, he can be let off the hook pretty easily. "Oh my apologies, this one was made before we joined the Camarilla, what a mistake" that's it. If a Prince has a grudge against him, sure he can use that as an excuse but if we're rules-lawyering, he would have done nothing wrong
>>
>>53045786
Part of the Convention of Thorns literally made it so Gargoyles were all freed from the Tremere. So yes, he'd have done something wrong. He'd have violated the founding treaty of the Camarilla.
>>
>>53045817
Freed, sure. That doesn't mean Gargoyle can't be "employed" by the Tremere. Technically.

If a Defiler and a mortal both agree that the Defiler would use her angel form in front of him once per month to inspire the mortal on writing silly songs, is it a pact or a reaping?

Also, can a character have more Temporary Faith than Faith pool? Because I think that 3 is really low as a cap.

Also, a demon can only grant something by using his lores/apocalyptic powers or not? For example a Devil cannot make a crippled walk again, but most pacts take 1 faith point out of 2 "Because the demon needs it to fullfit the mortal wish", so this means that they can do some kind of miracle without having to use their lore/forms if it's done to fullfit a pact?
>>
>>53045995

Planning a Demon the Fallen campaign. Everyone, including me, is completely new to the splat. Is there anything mechanically that I should be worried about, or something that new players to the setting might have trouble with?
>>
>>53046097
>a demon can only grant something by using his lores/apocalyptic powers
Yes. Was rereading the book recently and it said that only lores. Of course he can also gift some inherent powers - like curing from all diseases and ailments (because demons don't have those), immunity to mind control, that sort of stuff
>>
>>53046209
Then why 1 Faith point out of 2 goes wasted every day for the pact? It's just some kind of "Custom fees?"
>>
>>53045950

Alright, I have a setting question for mage. Let's say there's a group of hunters, primarily from the knights of saint george, are trying to kill a Tetrarch. How are the mages from the pentecle in the area likely to react?
My thoughts are that they're going to sit by and let what happens happen, but I could also see them getting worried about the hunters screwing something up super bad and trying to stop them, or even lending indirect aid. Is there any canon answer to this or is it mostly up to me decide?
>>
>>53048072
I wouldn't be surprised if Brucatto actually thinks Fox News it run by evil wizards.
>>
>>53048408
>Tetrarch
Given that the books imply Mages would team up with Banishers against the Seers, I don't think they'd lend a lick of aid to them. They might help the hunters, though a smart mage wouldn't let them find out about it.
>>
>>53048408
Bad idea for the hunters. They are going to get thoroughly annihilated.
All Tetrarchs are considered powerful in their own right, and can singlehandedly slaughter hunters en masse.
>>
>>53048515

>>
>>53048638
Even the strongest hunter won't match a Master.

They just can't. We're talking about wizards here.
>>
>>53048408
>How are the mages from the pentecle in the area likely to react?
With incredulity, and otherwise staying the fuck out of it. Unless the Hierach is ballsy and the Seers are in a vulnerable position (meaning he has a chance to get them the fuck out of his Consilium) don't expect any active assistance.
>>
>>53048638
One with access to all of the resources of a first-world military.
>>
>>53048722
>and tetrachs were just like gnosis 4-5 uber bosses
There is no "just" about Gnosis 4-5
>>
>>53048722
Tetrachs are all extremely powerful Mages, with some even being Archmages. Very dangerous, and not just because of their power with magic. To rise up in the Seers you have to be ruthless and cunning. So you're basically going up against an apex predator.
>>
Masters are strong, but I'm not sure if they could handle a group of five moderately experienced hunters.
>>
>>53049016
You haven't read Awakening, have you?
>>
>>53048638
It depends on how psychopathic the hunters are. I mean they run the gamut from the type who would never directly engage the mage to begin with and try to take him out by killing his allies and setting people he's hurt against him up to the type who would just fill a van with explosives and ride it directly into his house during night.

Given the nature of Seer politics Tetrarchs and Ministers tend to be Mages of astonishing power. Some even have Ochemata 'bodyguards' from the exarch they serve. They're not a realistic target for a Hunter conspiracy hell they're beyond the scope of most end game PC cabals.

If you let Envy's Barb run as is it scews things a little. A hunter can roll presence + endowment, optionally taking bashing damage to add 2 dice, and if they beat a mages successes on a spell roll the spell gets undone. Given how spell casting changed between 1e and 2e, often lower level mages are going to intentionally make it so they succeed a spell roll by only 1 or 2 successes' so they can get as much out of the spell as possible by taking dice penalties.

So no, you can't do any of that.

Masters can eventually garner Exceptional Successes on a whim, yes. They will one-shot you dead rather promptly.
>>
>>53049817
Masters yes, I'm just talking about weird math things.
Like take a regular attack spell. In 1e you rolled as many dice as possible because damage was directly linked to your successes. In 2e you take as many penalties as you can to get the affects you want, and just roll as many dice as you think you need to get the spell to go off.
Since the endowment didn't receive any errata it changes how effective it can be by a lot.

For once these annoying white-room shit discussions are relevant to something that's coming up in my weekly Chronicle.

Forsaken Chronicle with a crossover antagonist: said antagonist being a Gnosis 6 Thyrsus Master Libertine hippy old hag.
>Life 5 Spirit 5 Space 3 Death 2 Forces 2 Time 1

Picture the crazy cat lady from The Simpsons but she grows marijuana and preaches peace and love, the irony being she hates the Uratha for reasons I will not disclose.

Any advice? My players are quite strong in their own right, but I don't know. They wanted a challenge.

That depends on a couple of factors. If she has several spirits bound to her either take those out first, try and free them, or get other spirits to do one of those for you. If shes just on her own then I'd just recommend regular heavy firearms from multiple sources. I'm not sure off the top of my head, but I don't think she can stop them from shifting to war form for one turn to instantly heal all non aggravated damage before turning back, so a regular battle of attrition might work.

if they haven't killed off all their local spirit and werewolf rivals you're going to have to urge them in the direction of tricking the local pure and greater spirits into attacking her for them, bonus points to the player characters if the start a spirit court war or a war between two different packs of pure with the Unknotted in the middle.

otherwise suggest to your players to get really nasty powers and getting gud with the simultaneous sniper shot.

that or you make the Unknotted grossly incompetent and inept for their power level.

back at the spirit court/s that sent the army/s her way? the promise that they'll send more stronger spirits her way eventually. I also haven't read mage and was unaware that they could just turn spirits en mass without a clash of wills.

unless you mean send the spirit army back at the uratha, and the uratha in question being in command of the spirit court is not what I intend at all. if I were both the ST and every player character I'd schmooze up to two different spirit courts separately and push them in the direction of going to war against each other with the Unknotted in the middle, maybe lie to both sides that she's on the other side so they attack each other, and her. [that's all assuming that she either can't turn the spirits en mass or, is through ST discretion, too inept to pull it off which is a possibility considering her insanity]

Time 1 gives divination, but someone that strong probably doesn't bother using it every day to figure out if someone is going to attack them, figuring they don't have to worry. Rather I would expect she gets spirit servitors to act as guard dogs instead.
Plus if she's a stoner how smart can she be
>>
>>53050842
also if the ST decides no she isn't stupid and can turn spirits en mass then the ST should push them in the direction of tricking two other packs of werewolves to kill her for them, the challenge being politicking and manipulation instead of being combat. sounds like she isn't quite powerful enough to kill more than 5 at a time per clash of wills and two or more packs going at it should be more than enough dpt to gank-an-unknotted

I wasn't around since the begining or anything, but I kept track of hunter for the whole line. All the lines that weren't vampire, werewolf, or mage got kinda shafted because they had one chapter of end of the world stuff instead of a whole book. The hunter scenarios were just:
>Monsters go visible
>Scenario A: You fight in a straight up war
>Scenario B: You find some method of curing them, but only so many
>Scenario C: Humans start to see the supernatural, you lead them
They could all be kinda cool, but since this was one chapter of one book none of them really got expanded on.

>>53045817
>Part of the Convention of Thorns literally made it so Gargoyles were all freed from the Tremere.

Officially, all gargoyles were "freed", yes.

Unofficially, Tremere are suspected to keep a few of the most powerful slaves up their sleeves as an ace in the hole, and not every Gargoyle ran away from the Chantries. Some Gargoyles chose to return to their masters because they were deeply loyal or too afraid of being independent; not every Tremere abused their servants after all, in fact the Gargoyles all but worship Virstania, the Tremere that invented the Gargoyle ritual, simply because she cared for the Gargoyles as her own childer.

While most Gargoyles decided they want nothing to do with the Tremere as *slaves*, many Gargoyles aren't above making deals with the Tremere. Tremere adore having the Gargoyles at their side because it's a sign of power and control, which isn't hindered by the fact that the Gargoyle is, technically, a free kindred in the modern nights.

But yes, while most of the OLDER Gargoyles, the ones who remembered the fires and magical curses of the Tremere, stay the fuck away from their old masters... the newer Gargoyles produced from the Embrace post-revolt aren't as picky, and will sometimes agree to serve as guardians and protectors in exchange for magic knowledge or blood.

One day in the distant future, OPP will release Deviant. As DaveB has noted that deviants are at the other end of the power scale as mages, either Dave will lose some of his splat supremacy luster, or the conversations may begin to change. I'm not sure crossover is going to alleviate it much. It's probably going to be along the lines of 'if you run different supernatural types in the same game we recommend making these adjustments to bring them more in line' and then some hacks. Obviously this is going to involve bringing mages a bit lower. Some people are going to complain about that I'm sure, and on the other hand it's not going to stop the current arguments because those powers are still there.

>Also, another plus so far about C20? I've looked a good ways through this thing and have not encountered a preachy sidebar about gender identity or muh alternative progressive pronouns. There might be one buried in the Storytelling chapter though, I just skimmed that.

Yeah, I'm seeing a definitive lack of those, which is always a BIG plus.In fact, the sidebars are actually full of *good* advice this time around.

It's not "DON'T ASSUME GENDERS, REEEEEEEEEEEE, LET'S SPEND A FEW PAGES TALKING ABOUT THAT SHIT", but rather "Hey, not everyone might be a fan of gore or sexual stuff, so always remember to talk to the players beforehand if you want to include that stuff!".

Heck, the only thing I've seen so far about gender-identity is this line on page 140:

"Changeling characters can be of any age, race, culture, and gender identity."

...And that's literally it, thank god. Changeling 20th already confirmed for being better than Mage 20th.

new technologies flatten social interactions as well. You can have friends in Greece yet never see the folks next door.
If you live in the industrialized world, you don’t need to be a dungeon troll in order to spend most of your life online. A
paradoxical sense of connected alienation seeps into many relationships, in which partners argue with strangers while
ignoring the person beside them. Self-centered outrage trumps social interaction. Sexism, racism, and all manner of social
grotesquerie pour from social media communities where bizarre forms of intimate sociopathy manifest as real-world
brutality and terroristic “pranks.” With the world at our fingertips, it seems to slip through our hands.

Fuck. Brucato is onto us.

Question for WtFags. Do games of werewoof focus heavily on combat and that is like 2/3 of whole time spent or is there a place for research and investigation and other stuff?

I'm joining WtF game with my old VtR character but I don't know a lot how WtF plays and should I scrap him and start a new one.
>>
>>53055838
Wow, he almost makes some decent points here.

But what the fuck is some preachy bullshit about social interaction doing in a game book about magic and super science? This is the stuff he prioritized over actual content? I'm glad I didn't spend money on this.
>>
>>53055911
There's always been gold dust hidden in Brucato's verbal diarrhea. I don't know what he needs more a decent editor or a psychiatrist to titrate his meds.
>>
>>53055871
Werewolf is more combat heavy than most other WoD games but there's still things like investigation and such (after all, a lot of times you need to FIND the thing you're hunting before you can eviscerate it) playing a solid role.
>>
>>53055641
I like'm all to varying degrees. I like Changeling -less- than the other game lines but I still like it.

I mean, how was this not the shitshow that M20 and recent CroD offerings have been?

>>53055911
I can't give Brucato too much shit. Back in the day, he was a force to be reckoned with, he was putting book after book out the door, those books were well put together and still read well and he did this while being dyslexic.

But fuck, man. Take him to the park, run him around and let him lick your face and then give him all the sausage he can eat because it's time for that final trip to the vet.
>>
>>53055937

Who was the head developer for C20? Maybe they just don't have their heads jammed quite so far up their own asses.

>>
>>53056044
Didn't they drop ALWAYS ANGRY! ALL THE TIME! rule for Gauru in second edition? I might be mistaken thou
>>
>>53056056
Yeah there is a Gift that allows it to be a *bit* less KILLFRENZY than normally, and there's a GM option to make that the default state of Gauru. I'd ask the ST if he's using that or not, and note that even with that on, it's still not that hard to go INTO full murder mode.

>>

I'd say each one on their own wouldn't do him much good, but together they might whip him into decent shape.
>>
Celerity can dodge bullets. That's exceeding 1800 mph.

So why can't I run like the Flash?
>>
>>53056131
Fair enough. But yeah. The more stuff you can have to not get nailed in combat, the better, even if you're not an especially combat-y lick.

Speaking of, if the werewolves aren't squicked out too much by your dietary needs, try and stay as well fed as your Humanity level can tolerate. When shit hits the fan you can probably expect to need to burn a lot of blood, plus "in the presence of a werewolf pack" is proooobably the worst possible place period to have your Beast chimp out on you.
>>
>>53056207
Isn't Celerity only used in short bursts?
>>
>>53056243
It is, though I think I've seen elder-level Celerity powers that let you do Flash running...somewhere.

>>
>>53056212
With 1 dot in celerity and 1 in obfuscate I can still dart for cover faster then most will react and unless someone is specifically looking for me most assailants will ignore me but yeah.

Dietary needs are good for additional motivation. Wolfs can drop gallons of delicious blood on vamp without adverse effects for themselves but same delicious blood can cause vamp to frenzy so I would say mitigating that effect would be something ordo dracul member would probably like to put some work into.

In VtR 3 dots in celerity allow you to run at around 65 mph. Considering you accelerate to that from standing still this isn't bad.

And that's basically highway speed at that, so yeah.

Pfft, it's also slightly faster than Doomguy runs around.

If I remember correctly, they have lived in the Umbra for millenia and they ate wraiths (and each other).
So how that affected their generation?

>>
>>53056367
But dodging bullets is exceeding 1800 mph, so that doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>53056608
You hit max speed as soon as you move, right? So that's like some anime tier flash step, and it's pretty fucking hard to hit a target moving so fast.
>>
>>53056622
I mean 65 mph seems impossible if you can dodge bullets. You should be running at like 2000~ mph.
>>
>>53056608
Don't know about vtm but in vtr celerity does not allow you to dodge bullets without being combined with auspex(it still substracts from attackers firearms pool).

However it makes sense that vamp can jerk his head to the side to avoid a bullet faster then he can move his whole body to run.
>>
>>53056656
That's still effectively exceeding 1800 mph though.

I've played Wraith, and it's REALLY clunky in practice. Also, PCs are notably weak by WoD standards.

Go on, try fighting Spectres or affecting a mortal with a starting PC. They will fuck your shit up. Also, all the really useful Arcanoi (except Usury) are generally useless on mortals at starting levels.
>>
>>53056995
This sounds kinda bad. I hate when my character can't be at least competent at something from the start
>>
>>53056995
I always thought in wraith at low levels you spend most of the time in stygia and only come across skinland folks if they summon you or venture to the shadowlands. To me the game seems like a better version of your traditional dungeon crawl rpgs with options to do some really amazing stuff that's not possible in roguelikes.
>>
>>53057022
>>53056995
I don't know about stuff at all, but I have a feeling a low level wraith game would be so damn cool for people who are not too familiar with owod lore.
Like first you make your regular human person, then some shit goes down and you die and have to accommodate to surroundings and people that have been there like that for a loong time. What would you think when you heard from someone that in this place you have a chance of superslavery. They make furniture out of people with bad luck you know.

I'd see many possibilities for paranoia -themed games.
>>
>>53057022

It's because you're DEAD. You're dead and gone, boy. Affecting mortals is really, really hard.

>>53057025

Yes, but the PCs are all very fragile. I'll point out - Arcanoi are not really superpowers. They're essential to life in the Underworld. Early on, the PCs will be constantly short of Pathos, and fights are extremely lethal in general.

Like, vampires and mages are a step above human, right? But you are an average dead guy. You are not made for fighting horrors from beyond the grave.

A lot of Wraith is about brooding. You have to hang around mortals a lot, to passively leech Pathos. Basically, you haunt people to get MP, and it can have diminishing returns.
>>
>>53057065

It's very cool and very atmospheric. But it's also not exactly fun. The campaign started with our PCs being killed in a terror attack, then waking up in the Shadowlands.

They could see the killers, but they couldn't affect them at all. Absolutely nothing they could do could touch them. Then the Reapers showed up, and it was run or be enslaved.

What's the general opinion on Zak. S?

Apparently him being hired caused a lot of butthurt, especially with Dave Hill, and I'm wondering if he's just as big a wanker or not.
>>
>>53057081

To use a metaphor, knowing Correspondence in Mage is a bit like being like Neo. In Wraith, knowing Argos is like knowing how to drive a car.

>>
>>53057065

You're right, but I'll add that there's a focus on melee combat too.

See, guns need soulfire crystals to work. BUT they also need bullets. And bullets are really hard to come by. Unusually, Wraith's 'magic items' are extremely rare, so that's another problem too.

Interestingly, Orpheus made wraiths REALLY powerful. Like, frighteningly so. A starting Orpheus character is a combat monster as a ghost, particularly the Skinriders.
>>
>>53056914
For a second-degree Adept?
Could well be.
>>
>>53056995
>Also, PCs are notably weak by WoD standards.

You're not really supposed to be fighting in Wraith, from what I remember. ...You're not really supposed to be doing much of anything except being miserable about being dead and keeping your profile low so you don't get snatched up for the soulforges.

Call me when they do an episode with a superhuman being running upwards of 100 mph and isn't stupid enough to wait until the bullet has been fired to start moving. And when they start moving they're already at their insane top speed, effectively making them disappear at first glance because they've moved ~100 feet in just one second, if I did my math right using the example of 65 mph.

>>
>>53057554
Celerity doesn't work on attacks they can't foresee, buddy. You're basically arguing against the speed of a human finger pressing down on the gun's trigger.

If they dodge a bullet as soon as its fired, they're effectively exceeding 1800~ mph.
This isn't hard to comprehend.
>>
>>53057596
>>
>>53057585
I'm not saying that Celerity will allow you to dodge all bullets without fail. Obviously when you get ambushed you're fucking ambushed. What I'm arguing is that if you're moving at the speed of a car on the highway at the drop of a dime you'll probably be a bit harder to hit. That also isn't hard to comprehend.
>>
>>53057629
Nice twist.
But if a vampires knows when a bullet is coming and Celerity (with Auspex) allows him/her to evade it, he/she is effectively exceeding 1800~ mph.

That's my entire point.
Perhaps Celerity works in short bursts and decreases exponentially, given the basis for the speed of bullet evasion and the running speed of 65 mph.
>>
>>53057675
In case of quicken sight(celerity 1+auspex 1 devotion) you are in fact gaining bullet time so you see bullet leaving the gun and react with enough speed to counteract. Magic
>>
>>53054801
