Well, what I have now is set in generic fantasy, in one of the human kingdoms based loosely off Fable. Start off as a commoner bored out of the rear. Some low-low-level adventure hooks throughout the not-yet-city (a goblin, cat on the loose, etc). With some chargen together with the DM to get the PC's settled more in the starting village.

I have a few plots lying about, side-quests leading back to where I want the campaign to go, and intrigue in its place for if or when the players want to step in that direction, together with Orc Hordes in the west if they fancy a challenge. At level 6 letting players buy feats for 5k+ exp.

The things I want to focus on would be a 30/40/30 split between a generic fantasy story-line (preventing a war between allies), player-/character-goal fulfillment (mainly relating to things which I hope to talk about during chargen and 'session 0'). And finally knowing that your characters (and even your party) alone can't achieve that much, despite being above and beyond the capabilities of the normal folk, so the party would have to actually talk to one-another and discuss which character's goals they will chase so they realize that cooperation is needed. But that's just my hopes for the campaign.

I'm building it as a pet project and hope to play it with IRL friends, but sharing it (or even running it) here doesn't hurt anyone.

So I'm play a Vigilante(warlock) in an up coming game that I've been told will have piracy themes, 4th level, pazio only.
Current idea is to play party support with the occasional melee/mystic bolt to support when spells aren't needed. I'm looking at the talents and figuring I'll take Renown, Safehouse, and Lethal Grace.

Any advice aside from don't play a warlock vigilante on future talent/spell/feat selections?

You have my condolences then. You're going to be a gimped wizard if you try to focus on being a caster. You start with 2nd level spells, but you'll never get 3rds in your projected range so you're going to be missing most of the good support spells. The trait for Int-based UMD will likely be your friend. You'll probably want the generic wizard utility spells and a willingness to suck up that you'll suck hot shit. If the game is absolutely going to end at 6th, then you will probably be safe taking Arcane Strike as a feat rather than a talent.

If you decide to be a dirty humanfag to cover the feats for ranged combat, then picking up TWF instead of Rapid Shot would probably net about the same results and let you actually use the bolts in melee. You'll want to wait for 5th level to actually do that though, since that's when ALL your bolts start hitting touch. The benefits of Lethal Grace are dubious with Warlock compared to something like a Familiar or being able to store and use wands without holding them, but I can only assume this won't be a particularly high-op game so I won't knock it. At 5th, you're looking at (I assume) something like a single 1d6+4~ (Melee, P or S) against normal AC versus two 1d6+3's (Ranged, Energy) against touch. Make of that what you will.

Actually wait, my math was slightly off. Those Mystic Bolts would be doing the same damage as an actual melee attack because you'd have Point-Blank Shot if fighting at range. That said, if the GM throws anything with energy resistances at you you're flat out dicked, so holding onto a longbow or backup melee weapon is still a good idea, especially since I can only assume you're going to have 10+ Str anyway.

If you take this >>53003206 anon's advice, then taking the Arcane Strike talent, while shit from a talent perspective, can free up your 3rd level feat as a human for Rapid Shot. At 5th you can then take TWF, and for a penalty of -4, fire THREE bolts against touch AC. They'll all do the same damage as well, since there's no ability score modifier to get halved by your offhand. You'll be totally fucked if you're trapped in melee range, and your attacks can only hit out to 30 ft, but heeeey, it's something!

The fact that there's only one build is entirely on Paizo willfully gimping all Dex-to-damage melee options besides Dervish Dance to not work with Spell Combat. Shocking Grasp being the "only spell" is a byproduct of Paizo being too lazy to actually publish alternatives/give Magus access to any alternatives. Something like Produce Flame exists and would fit the class well, even if "lol fire damage" means it would be a Frostbite-tier meme. Pool Strike could have just been part of the base class, the weapon abilities you can use shouldn't have been a fixed list, and Arcane Accuracy should have been a base class feature that had an Arcana to make it last for rounds/level.

Of course, that's also opinions entirely unrelated to the question of a full BAB take on the class, so take it with a grain of salt.

There's two issues, each of which being fixed would solve the other.

The first is that the simple-martial-exotic distinction comes off as silly because the weapons are mostly the same between brackets. Really, the only thing you can't get at simple is reach-disarm or reach-trip weapons. Other than that, it's all silly 1-damage or crit differences.
This would be fixed by making martial weapons noticeably better than simple weapons, and exotic weapons noticeably better than martial weapons.

I'm an older brother with two little siblings, one of which is special needs, and I had to nut up and take care of them partway through junior high. Showing concern/parenting is ingrained in me at this point, and gets me in the same situations. Part of what I found helps it making absolutely sure to look up and around then find the nearest other adult paying attention and ask very clearly. "Yours?" and if it's not, continue with "Who abandoned their child?" in that -I'm gonna start shit with child services if nobody claims them- tone of voice and expression. Then, almost first thing in any resulting conversation, I mention how I've got a special needs little brother and a little sister, then use it to commiserate and sympathize with whoever stepped forward as caretaker.
That's usually all it takes, and I'm a scarecrow of a white bald man with resting angry face, so it'll probably help you.
