To be fair to AoS at least in it Chaos has dudes who actually beat the Sigmarines. Archaon's handed them their ass twice and made Sigmar look like an idiot too.

Also in AoS the Sigmarines are the smaller force trying to get victories where they can, whilst in 40k the Imperium is literally most of the galaxy and the strongest military force and it just keeps beating everyone's attempts to defeat it.

They're similar, but there are differences in the style too.

Alright, crazy crackpot plot theory time:

Everyone in the thread is theorizing that there is things to be read into Papa Smurf not mentioning xenos on the list of things to be swiftly eliminated.
Most notable people are in full on shipping mode.

So here's my call for the future of the plot:
Papa Smurf actually fucking does it.
He pulls it off.
He fights back Chaos. Doesn't destroy it, but gets the upper hand.
He kicks so much ass, he purges Chaos from the remains of the Imperium's Webway, allowing his father's body to leave the Golden Throne, and finally regenerate (maybe even brings back some of his brothers along the way).

You know, if people are going to bitch about 'AoS-ing' the setting, this is one of the few places that seems like a decent avenue of attack. The initial presentation of AoS ignored everything except for the Stormcasts and Archaon, and buried all the rest of the lore they'd come up with, which was a terrible mistake. Nope, he told Corax how to improve on the SM designs, the original Raptors were faster than regular marines and produced in a fraction of the time, he even had the plans for better marines sitting around in an old lab. They're designed to fufil a role, they're not some perfect creation, they're mass production supersoldiers, just slightly more versatile ones than the Thunder Warriors.

Frankly there's a lot to suggest both the Space Marines and even the Primarchs were ultimately meant to be disposed of once the Imperium no longer needed them. The Custodes certainly thought that was the plan, and whilst they're not told the truth anymore than anyone else is, the fact they've been so close to the Emperor for so long means that carries some weight.

I was talking about within the main storyline and the game itself. Time and time again, chaos players saw every Xenos army get their updates. Remember this picture? CSM had one of the most disappointing codexes ever, to replace an equally disappointing codex.
