Pathfinder General /pfg/

How do you act out your characters getting magically charmed? Do you balk at it? Is it any different if the charm is from a kitsune?

Ok, there's no way that animeposter isn't

1. Actually 2hu
2. Someone intentionally witch-hunting 2hu to pose questions related to what he does

Seriously this is fucking crazy.
>>
>>52972294
Is the kitsune actually being played asian, or is it just someone trying to act out their partial furriness without using their different forms.

(in either case who cares, if you get charmed you get charmed.)
>>
>>52972294
Of course it's different if the charm is from a kitsune.
Sheer disgust should entitle me to an additional saving throw.

I made a kobold rogue with the trapmaker archetype. She was actually a super fun time. Setting up traps and having people fall into them so you can go up and shank them while they are flat footed. (Plus all the jars of spiders.) Plus, everyone knows collecting the shinies are of top importants.

In my current setting, Kobold are former Troglodyte slaves who capitalized on the fall of their master's empire to employ ninja tactics and claim their own freedom.

Because angry ninjabold with moves straight out of Five Elements Ninjas is just great.

Kent is the most fuckable character with a dick and I ain't feelin /u/, plus some nice romance equals redemption / development of mature emotions potential.

If I get captured there better be mounted fear of rape and humiliation culminating in a dashing rescue by my partymembers just in time to save my purity.

I swear to god if I don't get at least one bodice-ripper trope out of this I'm gonna be pissed.

It's been hella fun so far. The party has a somewhat unreliable, chakram-focused Kobold ninja NPC following them around and helping when it suits his purpose.

Kobold ninjas with ballsy elemental moves vs. Gnomish ninjas with illusion techniques is an ongoing background conflict.

Breath of the Ancestor, as a ninja trick, does a better job of giving Kobolds a breath weapon than any feat chain I've seen.

My DM doesn't really like third-party or non-Paizo content. He's pretty nice and lenient otherwise, but I just have a lot of cool ideas for characters- for example, I want to play a Kestrel. He just seems worried other players flooding the game with 'Well, Anon got this, so I should be able to get this, too!'

They're so cute and I like their bonuses, even if they're kind of dumb. Also, I really want to play one. Any advice on how to convince him/avoid the whole 'they got this, so i need this' scenario?

Note that as written those kind of suck. If you want to do this, use N. Jolly's Draconic Avenger archetype for the vigilante - https://archive.4plebs.org/dl/tg/image/1488/34/1488340605142.pdf

It's basically written to counteract the worst of the shittyness of drakes.

Also note that despite it being for Vigilante, you can also add the Exposed archetype from Legendary Vigilantes to be a Vigilante with only a single identity.

Daddy was never an actual meta. It was a bubble propped up by anons trying to bait people into making flat characters.

Remember when Hell's Vengeance was recruiting the second time around, and there was a giant false flag? The "we need Chelish muscle men" shit? Yeah, that sure turned out great, didn't it?

It's the same bullshit. DAD is a toxic stock.

Is there any reason to take the Deadly Insight stalker art, given that it's exactly the same as the ability they gain at 5th level under their Ki Pool powers? I'm looking at the d20pfsrd and just want to be sure it's not a weird typo, though they also did the same thing with a Brutal Slayer talent.

The weapons gain the disarm special weapon feature when used individually. A pair of shang gou can also be formed into a single one-handed weapon to gain the trip special feature.

Is it just me, or do hookswords seem too weak? I feel like they should do more damage than a dagger, and probably should go under exotic weapons.

They are monk weapons for disarm and trip. Monk unarmed progression is more powerful than their damage, so you use them for their special abilities, along with making them out of materials.

>>52974391
Probably just flavor, but maybe so you can't dualwield trip attempts for a ton of trips.

just petition to be a dragon then. You probably won't be able to be a sick-ass red or gold or even the cool imperial dragon, but maybe a brass or blue dragon wyrmling as a familiar.

You won't gain levels normally, but you will get powerful through age and how much swag you can pack into your very own dragon lair.
>>
>>52974490
And a nipnong chipchong to you.
>>
>>52974414
I understand that they're monk weapons, but they would be an interesting choice for non-monks if they weren't so weak.

>>52974431
Idea for a breath weapon without a uses/day thing: have a breath weapon daily damage pool, equal to twice your character level. You can spend up to your character level of breath weapon points per use of the ability, and it does 1d(something) damage for every point you use. That would still limit it, but give you an option between multiple weaker uses, or a few massive bursts. Maybe tie range to how many points are spent too, like 5-10 feet a point.

>>52974490
I literally copy pasted off the D20SRD. Thank you for pointing out yet another problem with their rendition.
>>
>>52974503
Yeah and if it is a reasonably high level campaign you can probably get to young adult or adult too. Once I was playing as a familiar blue dragon but the campaign got really convoluted in a good way. The wizard got old, I became an adult dragon, and since it was already dealing with time portals, when the wizard became a lich, I did that dracolich thing too. It was very cool. After that the GM used us as enemies in another campaign with the lairs the two of us designed.
>>
>>52974509
It's akin to having a sword called a Sweihander, except even worse because in Chinese there is no such thing as misspelling a word so in theory people would have no way of knowing, out of context, what you actually meant. The most common form of Shang Gou is 上鉤, which means "to get baited / caught" (as angling but also as in literal bait or traps), literally "to be upon the hook", which is entirely different from Shuang Gou 双鉤 which means "Paired Hooks" or "Pair Hooks".
>>
>>52974525
well, for example as a ninja or rogue you could probably dualwield them for intense tripping and disarming and sneak attack dice.

>Half-giant Brutal Slayer//UnMonk

>They leave Heldren and resolve to go south, where it gets cold as heck!

>Everyone is dead
>The tiefling is shell-shocked but quickly gets over it
>The orc inspects one cart and finds clothes.
>The half-giant and half-orc inspect a frozen man who is dead as heck!
>After figuring out that everyone is dead, they hear noises coming from one cart, which has been sealed to block out intruders
>They all gather round the carriage
>when suddenly, ZOMBIES pop out of it.
>Roll for initiative!
>The resident orc has quick reflexes
>Scything Strike
>It's a crit!
>44 damage to both zombies
>who only have 12 hp
>Bisection happens
>They inspect the closed caravan and find a box of stuff!
>The sun is starting to set, and they haven't inspected the snowy trail
>The orc breaks apart the caravan and makes trail markers, marking a route
>they get to a clearing, with a half-buried chest in the middle of it
>The orc fails a perception check to notice it's trapped, and ends up getting hit by a swinging log trap!
>1d8+3 damage, but it's a crit! So that becomes 2d8+6 for a total of 12 hp
>(GM Note: I have a rule for HP, double max hp at first level, mind you)
>The orc is knocked down to 1/2 health, and thrown a dozen feet back
>After making sure he isn't kill, they check around some more, and after being gently nudged OOC they find the cache of weapons!
>They opt to take the weapons, and head on back to Heldren, before things get too dark
>They settle into the Silver Stoat and are then served by a tall Shoanti lady who is both Server and Bouncer

End session! It was fun! I like GMing this group! I cannot WAIT for next Saturday!

Inquisitor is kinda like the Bard or Alchemist, it has numerous options to specialize in different fields based on what you wanna build ofr and what choices you want.

Its a Wis based Spont caster, whose spell list contains mostly utility, self-buffs, and some offenseive options.

Its abilities tend to revolve around either applying Wis to different skill checks, utilizing Teamwork Feats on themselves, and stacking Judgement and Bane for goodly damage. Archetypes exist to trade these things around and make them play differently. Further, you can also affect your main focus based on either what Domain or Inquisition you choose. You also gain abilities for SLA alignment detection, interrogation, perception, sensing, and late can SLA a Zone of Truth, meaning its an excellent class both Combat and Intrigue games.

Also, its one of the few classes that gets Handcrossbow Proficiency for free. Which is pointless but still kinda cool anyway.

Honestly, its one of my favorite classes of all time.

I have never once had a nature casting class in a game I ran, played in, or observed, that wasn't cancer. But by far, Rangers tend to be worst, because they take everything reoccuringly bad about druid players, and everything reoccuringly bad about rogue players, and mesh them together. So it's just muh dark and edgy loner sneakums who hates everyone with the insult to injury of "PETA muh cute animals no we can't kill the bear that's trying to eat us in fact, I wanna be its friend hold up lemme try and cuddle with it and read it bedtime stories like the last 9 hungry wild animals that that didn't work on, also we should release our horses into the wild"

Its usually cool and technically fits druid alignments.

If you can use third party material, use the Aegis class, from Ultimate Psionics and with a bunch of supplemental material in other Dreamscarred Press books (most of which is also on d20pfsrd.com by now).

Basically, you summon a suit of armor (which can range from Power Rangers spandex to full plate armor) which has special abilities included, which can range from punch powers all the way up to spellcasting-lite and a barbarian rage overclock mode.

Also, at mid/high levels, you can make the armor Large/Huge size for your giant robot summoning, and there's an X/day ability to swap around your armor's abilities for your mid-combat mode switches.

Also, a quick primer on psionics (as Aegis is a psionic class), if you're unfamiliar with it:

- Psionic powers work like spells, except 1) they run off a mana pool ("power points") which is totaled up among all your classes, 2) you get less of them than spells, and 3) you can spend extra PP on them to get more effects, as detailed in each power

- You can only spend a maximum of (your manifester level) on each use of a psionic power or ability

- Psionics and magic treat each other transparently, e.g., anything that affects caster level also affects manifester level, dispel psionics also dispels magic, you use Spellcraft for both, etc

- Psionics thematically comes from internal power rather than external/planar power like most spellcasters, so there are a lot of self-affecting powers (including relatively easy access to basic healing) and a lot of utility self-buffs, but few lasting area/external powers

I have.
Samsaran, death domain. Sought to rectify all those who would defy the holy cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
As things got more desperate, he rationalized fighting fire with fire under the caveat that his undead creations were made from animal corpses, thus only tying up the physical side of the cycle because no soul was involved, and were only temporary anathema, while those he used them to take down were more permanent atrocities to the natural order.
This, too, slowly crept into becoming "the end justifies the means", at which point he decided that while his lifespan was limited, there would always be violators of nature's reincarnation, so the true final solution is not to fight undeath with undeath, but to become undeath, at which point he began the path of an Agent of the Grave, and eventually attained lichdom, sacrificing his continued Samsaran lineage to carry out this necessary evil.

Had a skeletal hydra at one point, in addition to an army of bloody-skeleton dogs that acted as mass aid another bots, that I kept in a bag of holding. Did you know if you turn one inside out it drops all its contents at once? And that bloody skeletons have fast healing and even if they permanently die they come back an hour later at 1 hp, at which point the fast healing kicks in again? They're basically always at max HP, and "summon" in with a move action. It was great.

So if you ever see a pale-skinned figure with pupilless eyes and sunken, almost skeletal features wearing a black cloak, carrying a scythe and a sack, you know the time of your death has come.

In anticipation of the anon posting that high-level campaign through the Abyss next week, I've set out to figure out some names and titles for my character. Problem is, I'm having trouble coming up with some that sound particularly good.

Do you think an undead being (here's to hoping the DM allows the Ghoul class) whose rise to fame and infamy was being the bane of kingdoms could have the title, Cleaver of Crowns?

Mechanical notes: The character himself is supposed to be a Warder 12 / Landsknecht 4 || Ghoul 2 / Oracle (Apocalypse) 14 with the Forgotten curse, meaning Titles are incredibly important since those are the only things people remember him by.

I did something VERY similar on two occasions. One was a Mad Max style world where there were cars and stuff. (The driver was a custom robot race that became self aware, an orc roadboi type character looking for people to join his 'flesh circus' a ratfolk mechanic cleric worshiping the spirit of the machines and engines, and a human wizard who was trying to do some dark stuff.) It was a SUPER interesting and fun campaign.

The other time was a waterworld type setting. Imagine the movie with kevin, but with fantasy stuff like poseidon and atlantis and elves and shit.
>>
>>52976686

Don't light sabers actually have some level of force connection though? That's why you need kyber crystals.
Heck, their predecessor, the Forcesaber didn't even contain any tech, it was just a crystal with a hilt, that you had to shunt a lot of your own energy through.
>>
>>52977057
ugh
>>
>>52977068
What you can do with a Plasma Blade to give it to a relatively early level character (since the base one is 12k gold.) is make them use psi points when they want to get touch attack to hit. Then you can give them the ability to craft one at maybe level 5.
>>
>>52977068
I doubt that would have been used as more than a prototype, since the widely-used vibroblade was already functionally close to a lightsaber without having to pour your energy into it.
>>
>>52977113
>>52977068

>>52977068
>>52977147
It was hardly used at all until the lightsaber was created, but it had a big battery pack. Before them were force katanas and sith alchemy swords.

But anyways as for pathfinder, the plasma blade could maybe be created around level 5 with the inclusion of their own sort of crystal which could act as the actual thing you enhance. Make it +1, flaming, whatever.

>>
>>52977259
Or just job to a storm trooper wielding a stun baton
>>
>>52977211
Nah to create one you need to align the crystal in such a way that it creates a stable blade otherwise the first time you turn it on, it could explode. That is why force users are the ones who can make them, but anyone can use them if they learn.

Its also the reason kylo ren's lightsaber is so weird. He aligned his in a poor fashion but not so much that it exploded. When he first turned it on, the crystal cracked causing the crossguard beams to show up, and the beam itself to be unstable.
>>
>>52977147
It was in wide use, actually. Of note, it was pre-old republic, ergo predated vibroswords too. Je'daii tech, made by the Rakata. And explicitly used dark side energy.

>>52977167
You're thinking of the protosabers that were developed after the Duinuogwuin Contention. Those are actual lightsabers. Forcesabers are not.
>>
>>52977259
It's kinda funny.

Weightless swords which don't need any momentum at all to hurt would be difficult to use, yes.

But you'd think that the sensible way of using them would be like, fencing. Keeping it held out in front of you.

All the weight is focused at the hilt. They spin really easy. And a wide sweeping motion, combined with instant injury, means you're more likely to catch on an enemy who missed something.

Meanwhile, if you fence your aim is weird and finnicky to pinpoint due to all the weight being in the hilt, and while they don't transfer momentum while striking, they do while making contact with your oponent's sword, meaning it would get knocked out of the way very easily if you were trying to jab with it in a fencing stance.

>>52977393

Fencing would probably be the easiest way TO fight with a lightsaber, since it doesn't have the proper balance to be able to take weapon clashes.

You don't BLOCK in fencing, you motherfucking PARRY, yet the twats weapon clash like there's no tomorrow. That combined with the fact you can't put your hand on the blade to provide a more stable point of contact for pushing back, parrying is the only type of combat that makes sense.

Why the hell would you use two hands for a weapon which doesn't give a fuck about momentum anyway?

>>52977515
There are tons of fighting styles for fighting with lightsabers. There is one that is all about fencing which was designed in an era where most of a jedi's enemies were wielding other lightsabers. So masters of this dueling technique were master duelists. It is why count duku's lightsaber was designed like a french rapier, and why he fought with stabs and light swings instead of other styles of fighting.

And while lightsaber blades are technically weightless, they still have mass as they are plasma. Infact modern lightsabers even have gyros inside the hilts.
>>
>>52977568
Its also why he could easily fight two jedi with lightsabers in the movie, because he was a master of a technique designed specifically for dueling with lightsaber users, instead of obi and annie who were fighting droids and monsters for most of their careers.

Smelter was a shit boss with wonky hitboxes and his annoying passive aoe fire field. Plus they make you fight that fuck not one, but twice! The Throne Dudes were a shittly implemented dual-boss that was more annoying and ceap than difficult, and good fucking luck getting Mirror Knight to function as he's supposed to. And Pursuer, while cool in his initial appearence, is jokingly easy to fight once you pay the agility tax and learn to just roll to the right and bait out his sield attack and strings. The only time he was difficult was in the optional fights where there's multiple of him, and even then that wasn't honest difficulty, that was just using numbers.

Plus for all the cool humanoid bosses you had a dozen lame bosses, retardedly lame giant humanoid enemies with tracking overheads, positioned in annoying chokepoints, and with the difficulty scaling just giving them more poise

Granted, the rest I'll give you, and I'm not saying its a bad game, however it pails in comparison to the others in the series, and the only other memorable and interesting boss in the whole game was the Executioner Chariot

Also Soul Memory was just retarded, and B-Team couldn't right good consistent lore to save their lives

I know SotFS supposedly fixed some of the gameplay issues, but the initial release and the subsequent DLC, and just having a horrible time with the cancerous PVP, just left a bad taste in my mouth by the end of it, so I doubt I'll spend the time and money to play it. Especially since my new house has horrible enough internet that I never bothered to update my PSN account so I wouldn't even be able to even have fun with the PVP and co-op

>Fashion Souls
Senpai, I had a lot of fun with the Ivory King crown, Throne Watcher top, and the Eleum Loyce knight bottoms and gloves. Use your choice of: Claymore, Ruler's Sword, Zweihander, or Winged Spear

All of my characters are gay because I don't know how to pursue anyone in my own love life which is het. My gay friends give me the concerned look a lot.

Maybe you should just give up on girls and try traps or gays

I'm not soliciting but if we're having the discussion, the 5-10 gap is also a preference of mine. I'm particularly fond of an older more experienced partner that comes on hard to a younger one.

So pretty vanilla.
>>
>>52977717
See, I'd almost prefer a more mutual thing, with a coy, younger partner that's also eager to get into it, you know?

Different strokes.

What kind of classes are more likely to end up taking over the kingdom or achieve a position of power?

>comes on hard
This is something I always worry about. Like you don't want to come on too hard cause that makes you seem creepy.

So I go to the opposite end and do nothing.

I would but I don't find men attractive.

I too want to /y/ but I cannot into playing a male

Wizard and paladin

I wonder if there's some good way to secretly identify a character as open to /y/ without being explicit.
>>
>>52977793
It's super easy. Just give your character a set of goals, and make them a total fucking retard that only cares about those goals and ignores everything else.
>>
>>52977853
... Like i said I cannot into playing a male

It's called flirting, Anon. You interact with others in such a way that leads them to believe you're sexually interested.
>>
>>52977863
Masculinity is basically violent autism. Violent may even be the wrong word, because it's not necessarily hostile and harmful, but it's aggressively X where X is the goal of the male.

I am a fujo and am genuinely unironically a horrible person, and strongly encouraged two clueless straight guys to roleplay their male and female characters having a romance, and I increased the alcohol levels at our games to make the scenes saucier. I enjoyed it immensely. Not masturbating under the table immensely but just enjoying the feeling of warmth and pleasure that no one else can know. It's years later and we're not still in the game but I'm still trying to get the female guy to come out.

I actually really enjoyed the Ironclaw oneshot my group played.

Why is 5e so much thinner? Are there really that many fewer rules? Or is it just that much more concise?
>>
>>52978911
Both, in addition to 5e having released a separate book for DMs.

this >>52978927
The pathfinder CRB contains the players guide and dms guide, 5e has them as separate books
