This. It's always irked me that Nosgoth never comes up in good vampire world discussions. It's a pity that the MMO was bad, I would desperately love to see the world revisited on PS4, we do still need a conclusion to Kain's story.

Also I found out recently that Amy Henning also wrote the story for the uncharted series, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Might as well, but it will probably take at least dew months untill I properly get around to it, I got too much shit on my plate right now. I all ready have lots of ideas for Heavy Metal setting and even have some of the basic cosmology figured. I'm planning a month long session of reading archival Heavy Metal magazine, listening to dope albums and brainstorming before I start properly writing it.

Right now I'm trying to figure how to solve magic mechanically. Magicians are basically bards playing on special instruments and tapping to primal songs and sounds that created The World and which echoes are still vibrating through it to this day. I don't really know how to present it mechanically so that it would actually feel like playing music, not like casting a spell.

For high level magic I'm picturing sieges in which instead of traditional siege engines you would have whole concert scenes dragged towards the city walls by bulky trolls and flooding them with destructive waves of musical magic. The biggest and oldest cities would have an access to ancient and priceless artifacts known as Siege Percussions, mounted on top of city gates and boosted by rows of massive amplifiers. A single beat of one of the drums of this enormous drum sets is enough to set a whole squad of besieging army on fire.

Maybe the magical system could have some kind of free-form elements, to represent characters improvising and creating their own solos and riffs?

Also, some kind of ability to combine all of your magic together in order to have the whole band play at once to achieve even more awesome effects.

Gothic I and II were so fucking great nothing comes close once you've finished them.
Also it would be cool to have a system like that with classes tied to character progression within the world, I never liked the D&D prestige class system, for one you don't get your base class full package and being a "supplement class" you never feel like you're playing it 100%. That's not my idea of progression, and I feel like there is so much potential with branching classes (IE start as a peasant and then go for Initiate to warlock or fire magician etc.) I also like the added flavor of a class so specialized like that, of course you'd need lots more shit for a P&P but still, would be nice!

I always get reminded of this game when I see that greentext screencap of the dumb orc hero.
On a side note, the setting deep down is depressing as fuck.
Technology is destined to substitute magic in virtue of it's ease of use thus making everyone lose its intuition and become blind slaves of machines, until some day it'll make a comeback, maybe.
>>
>>52968324
My personal pick is This War of Mine.

About a rag-tag group of survivors with their own specializations attempting to survive a conflict by scavenging and stealing and trading. There needs to be more modern RPGs, and a game designed to be set inside a war zone would be easy to adapt to a lot of settings and times. I also thing the strongest mechanics in tabletop RPGs are all different flavors of resource management, so juggling hunger/sanity/injury while trying to not run out of the items you need to live would be really tense.

Broken Sky by Chris Wooding.

It's a anime-esque book series for children and adolescents, set in the worlds of Dominions and Kirin Taq. There are certain people who can cross over and take people with them. But the most interesting thing, which I think would make for a great, if somewhat hard to balance mechanic, is the presence of certain stones, which are implanted into some children and birth and confer on them various powers. If anyone is intrigued by this, I recommend they read the books. There are nine, but altogether no more than 1500-2000 pages of light reading, maybe even too light. There were even talks of making an anime/animated series but it didn't work out.

I had been thinking of running a campaign with it once, literally taking existing stats and all that, and seeing how far I got. I got stuck in writing out all of the extensive stat listing and copying the stats of certain commanders of several races. Seeing as it is technically completely playable as a tabletop as is. (after sorting through it for hours, that is)

The main plot idea I had was the same of the game (with my own universal fluff, including some bits about gods fighting over dominance over worlds, then once they have enough worlds, going onto the big stages in hopes of becoming the dominant force in the multiverse), the previous pantocrator was dead and because of that everything got set in motion. I was thinking of having a death match competition as battle test first to have the players get "picked" by their god, for reasons.

Then the newly formed party would be commanders, and I'd give them suggestions how they could 'win' the land. Mainly through conquest, but I'd give them some escort missions too, like "Bring X to Y to win the populace over". Though it would very quickly become dice-roll-hell for the DM with literally everything having a "random roll" attached to it, being a cascading 2d6.

I never finished working it out, but the idea of it is still there, especially running a campaign based on propagating a single god or goddess' religion by following their orders, and conquering through religious belief are still very much things I would like to do.

Honestly, Master of Orion 2 or Master of Magic would be really cool settings for a game, you have these crazy kinds of aliens and just about every technology available depending on when you want to set it. Master of Magic has a metric shit ton of races, but some of them are sealed away in an alternate world. All kinds of fun stuff can happen. I loved both of those games as a kid, and I've often wondered how I would run campaigns in them.

It's not a bad setting, it's just extremely focused on the whole arisen loop. There's at least hints at political intrigue going on, more history to the world and culutre and elves.

Also, there's the MMO. It has invading Orc armies, actual elves, transhumanist alchemist, lost cities and a bunch of stuff based of myths. The 1.0 storyline was about Eldorado and 2.0 covered the Yggdrasil myth, but everything with dragons thrown in.

Pic related

There's just so much in there that can be explored (pun intended). You could build a campaign from as low as planet based all the way to intergalactic.

I'd run a game set in starbound one of two ways;
>A) a Star Trek like game of deep exploration with a crew of varying aliens, with focus on their interrelations as well as planetary exploration. Would be episodic with new planets, events, etc and lots of room to develop.
>B) a BSG like game where the focus is on survival, with more emphasis given to the tone of impeding doom. Flesh out the tentacle monster to be more Tyranid, ever expanding across the galaxy after the players. They have to dodge persuining bio-vessels, all the while trying to keep the ship functioning, using local planets/moons to restock vital supplies.

My nigga, I was just about to post it.

In other news, the entire Phantasy Star series lends itself to this. Hell, every setting has something different to offer.

>The original quadrology
Classical Sci-Fi opera, with weird aliens, computer systems having gone rogue, the works
>Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 to Blue Burst
A setting on the frontier after their original planet was wrongly predicted to die, only to find that the old planet is completely hostile thanks to folks repeating the same mistakes which doomed their old home. Has a surprisingly dystopian bend if you look deep enough
>Zero
Postapocalyptic cowboy-punk, with human dressed like settlers longside androids try to rebuild and survive against elves living on the moon tricked into service by the BBEG

Universe and PSO2 are more generic weeb-y, but should be interesting for those who like that stuff.

Sadly I all of the notes for it are in a box of sketchbooks in storage. Off the top of my head, it was like this.

>Players picked in character creation a Class (Slinger, Brusher, Mason, etc) which determined what kind of weapons they could use, and a Totem (Pyth, Roathus, Hense) which gave them variable weaknesses or strengths based on their gods.
>Had either four or six stats, I can't remember.

Damn, I should get back on this at some point.

the things I hated about the game
a) difficulty scaling was completely off the leash, some of the early missions when you depended mostly on infantry were super gritty, late game when you had heavy tanks and artillery was walk though the park no matter what you faced
b) there was some bug that AI turns took forever whenever there were any Undead in the mission (I'm talking 30 seconds on regular vs 10 to 15 minutes with the bug)
But yeah, perhaps the only decent game to come out of Czechsolovakia besides Mafia (though Mafia setting wasn't really original in the slightest).

See, I'm imagining a campaign where the PCs being a collection of mercenaries from both minor and major factions, maybe starting out taking odd-jobs from smaller villagers and eventually moving up to taking contracts from the major factions, with maybe some dungeon delving for plunder when they're on their own time. You'd have a lot of options.

>comfy village to village adventures in lush, magical forests
>your Ardent Mage constantly calling your Nidya archer a pansy for not having any piercings, while your Caecator healer keeps walking into trees
>desperately setting up traps and barricades in Vaulter tunnels to fend off necrophages
>befriending a qt Justicere
>gearing up in ancient scyther suits to take on an awakening Guardian
>uncovering long forgotten underwater installations in a claustrophobic bathysphere
>spending half a session haggling with Roving Clan merchants over the price of his yirmak mounts even though you desperately need them to help save his own village from approaching Dorgeshi bandits

Fuck, now I want to start a homebrew thread.

They were just so damned vulnerable, every turn where they ended anywhere near enemy units was nerve wracking.
Also, wow, I didn't know there was a playthrough for this. I guess I know what I'll be reading this evening...

Wizards tried making one using the d20 system. Sadly, they tried using the default spellcasting system that 3.5 uses instead of at least trying to us the Spellpoint system to try to mimic the mana mechanic (though I think it runs in the 3.0 engine and not the updated 3.5, thus was prior to Unearthed Arcana).

It's Advanced D&D 2ed. It's an adaptation of the first Diablo with classes from Diablo 2, because reasons. 2/3 of the book is a set for rule for classes, monsters and random loot (yes, with affixes and such) and the other 1/3 is the whole game of Diablo 1, cathedral, catacombs, hell, whole fight with Diablo. It's funny, tad silly (for example, Butcher can't open doors exactly like in the vidya and it's even explained lore wise) and very faithful to the source material.

We have a Dune RPG

We have an starship troopers RPG

We fucking have shit tons of Star wars RPGs and even a fan made Mass effect RPG.

And no one, after years, ever released anything versed in the command and conquer universe.

I mean lets check the memelist of a setting to be good enough to be developed by fans.

>Postapocaliptic[X]
>Space domination[X]
>Ayyliums[X]
>Colonialism references[X]
>Heaviliy militaristic[X]
>Self referencing with lots of satire[X]
>A timeline that has at least 5 events or more[X]
>Enigmatic characters that people can stick with[X]
>Incorporated easy Mcguffinite and handwavium for shit to happen[X]
>Moral grey areas but also extremes[X]
>Politics and ideologies colliding[X]
>Strong memetizable symbolism[X]
>A developed universe[X]
>More than enough people to know it[X]

And yet nothing happened.

Just...

The first was a rip-off of Warcraft, the second and third were released on xbox and were half strategy games and half hack and slashes. Fourth was a full action game for ps3/xbox360 with online multiplayer and a lot of grinding, leveling up heroes, farming gear etc and terrible optimization on top of that (non-stop slow motion, it's shit).

Fifth (that's Kingdom Under Fire 2) is still in development? Or it was released only in Asia? Dunno.

Probably not, cause I don't see any individual fight being as big as an ace combat level. Otherwise we'd be spending hours at it.

I envision my system working for stuff like 6 players vs 10-20 planes at most

>>
>>52990173
It is still based on ace combat, so I'm not going full realism. Unless the enemy squadron has a special name and a musical cue that comes up when they enter the battlefield, the average bandit is not as good as the Aces*.

Eventually I hope the system is capable of handling the massive ridiculous super weapons deployed in the various Ace Combats, like the giant laser Excalibur or that one giant bomber the size of a battleship

*what I'm calling the player characters for the system.

I have watched the cutscene compilations of all LoK games on youtube and I daresay the story is very absorbing. However, I was wondering about something: An acquaintance of mine insisted LoK had very deep lore, but we never actually learn anything about the actual townships and human cultures in Nosgoth, and where we do it's very contradicting (Looking at you, Blood Omen 2!).

So would the setting really be all that fitting for an RPG campaign or is it one of those instances where people just have a very good feeling because of the amazing storyline, but it's actually quite a bad background for an adventure`?
>>
>>52990249

That's why you never bring formulas from video games straight to tabletop anon, this never ends up well. You have to adapt and simplify this shit
>>
>>52990591
Truth be told, it's actually less complicated than you'd think at first glance. Not enough for it to be a proper tabletop game, of course, but I wouldn't say it was much worse than, say, high level 3.5.

That said, my own brief stint as a moderator did require the use of a digital calculator, take from that what you will.

>I wonder how could you represent lessons and/or learning well in a teenage campaign.
Maybe roll your relevant stats to see how well you do in the lesson, and if you succeed you make progress towards boosting your stats, but only if you attend consistently. Skip one day and you lose a day's worth of progress in whatever class you skipped. You would also get the cool bonuses like you would get in the game too, like learning how to make items and special social skills and whatnot.
>>

Yeah. But if you did it as a ttrpg you could get even more crime-y, if that makes sense. Like you could put stuff in that they didn't put in the game. Like letting characters smoke weed, or shoplift stuff, or have the gym teacher actually sexually harass female students or to have the hot Art teacher actually put out, etc.

It wouldn't require much retconning; the reapers could remain the distant, intractable foes they should have been (the giant skeleton in ME2 sort of killed my vibe, although I think the collectors got killed too quickly) even if you erased much of the main quest line, the Crucible, etc. Basically, ignore the idea of Shepard entirely (maybe they sacrificed themselves to destroy the relay at the end of ME1). Your party should be the gang of xenos and misfits Shepard is there in the game to bring together. The reapers are coming slowly, but there's no hero's journey to suddenly unite the factions to any eventual end. There's a lot to work with.

I can't imagine how, since it's pretty clear that the stars are entities of law, the Bazzar is a monster who offers the sun gifts of love in the form of cities, and the Traitor Empress sold her own city to the Bazzar for power.

Maybe the setting suffers purely from its own pretentious faggot "artist" developers.
>>
>>52993798
>the Bazzar is a monster who offers the sun gifts of love in the form of cities, and the Traitor Empress sold her own city to the Bazzar for power
Both of these are wrong, though. Besides, there's a lot of other unanswered questions in the setting, such as the nature of Salt, the exact plans of Mr. Eaten, what lies West, and a whole bunch of other stuff that slips my mind at the moment.
>>
>>52993798
The Bazzar doesn'g give whole cities. She gives cities worth of love-stories. She needs 7 citties-worth, and London is her 5th.
>>
>>52994020
Not quite. While it's stated that London is the fifth of seven, it's never stated that the volume of love stories is what they're measured in. The Bazaar is looking for one single ultimate love story, one that might finally convince the Judgements that its love for the Sun can happen despite their place apart on the Great Chain. Just piling up love stories wouldn't help with that (in all honesty, probably nothing ever will; the Judgements aren't nice).
>>
>>52994282
Is it bad that I'm rooting for the Bazzar to win in the end and find true love?
