Given that templates are gone, they can actually mix up the ranges on all the different kinds of flamer type weapons. 2nd Edition had four different teardrop templates. What are you r predictions on profiles for hand flamers, heavy flamers, etc?
>>
>>52961234
Shit nigger, I've still got this guy unopened in a blister pack in my attic. Can't get up there right now without waking the senpai. Does anyone know the names of the characters off the top of their heads? I want to have a nose on eBay to see if there's any resale value.

Yes and no. Model pricewise, yes. Model valuewise, no. Warriors and Gargoyles are worthless in 7th, but the Hive Tyrant is alright. 8th will likely bring it up, seeing as how Nids seem to be getting bettered statlines, so I say go for it if you have no qualms about waiting for it to be useful.

Night Lords don't really make it dark, though. That's fucking Necron/Deldar level tech, actually. Sure, they might cut the power of they're assaulting a fortification or cruiser, but not like what you're talking about. Besides, they're not organized enough for that shit and other warbands would likely fight for it.

Night lords will probably have Raptor Troops again, and give big Ld penalties, considering a NL Raptor Talon and Terror Pack with the minimum number ofnunits can potentially give a -7 to fear checks with the current rules. Then, I could see command points being used to fuck with Fearless/ATSKNF.

What's the comparison between 40K arms and armor and real life arms and armor? I know its all somewhat fuzzy and one GW writer will write something different to another, but can we get a rough equivalence?

Ideally using RHA (Rolled Homogeneous Armor - standard WW2 style tank armor)

Something like:
Space marine armor - 100mm of RHA
Terminator armor - 200mm of RHA

Lasgun - 5.56×45mm standard nato assault rifle (I doubt it would be.22 equivalent - no military in its right mind would have a .22 equivalent as its standard arm)
Heavy Stubber - .50 cal machine gun
Bolt gun - 20mm autocannon
Heavy Bolter - 40mm autocannon (like a bofors)

Has anyone done a round comparison to real life equipment?

>>

We have absolutely no idea. They'll probably be fine, since Nurgle stuff is gonna be high-toughness MEQ more likely than not.

2 wound toughness 5 terminators will be sweet, especially if they still have Feel no pain or something similar.

If you can find somebody to split the box with, or are alright with doing some conversions, the starter set will also be a good deal.

I'd say to go for it if you like Nurgle and like the models.
>>
>>52962683
No idea, literally no one outside of GW knows and maybe not even them.
>>
>>52962670
I would love to see how much punishment a suit of space marine armor could take - could it take a .50 cal hit, what about a 20mm hit?
If my weapons comparisons are right, and a bolter is equal to a 20mm autocannon, a bolter only has a 0.08% chance to kill a space marine in one shot - so its likely space marine armor could consistently cause 20mm rounds to ricochet - which is pretty damn good.

The average old school 20mm cannon can penetrate 20mm of armor at 100m (going by WWII german 20mm)
So space marine armor would be equivalent to something significantly thicker than that - possibly at least 45mm
>>
>>52962712
they just need to publish the main rules packet since that's obviously done and let people chew over it rather than this teaser bullshit

Seeing as in 8th ed, even a Lascannon isn't guaranteed to penetrate power armour, I'm not sure you even reasonably can compare it to any modern armour.

>>
>>52962596
>Has anyone done a round comparison to real life equipment

no direct RHAe figures have been given by GW or FW.
consider this, only a rough comparison but about as close as we can get. A russes 180-200mm of plasteel is roughly equivalent to an abrams 1600mm RHAe.
Autocannons are directly stated to be equivalent to modern tank guns, the Battlecannon is an autocannon of comparable calibre to the abrams 120mm and fires comparable munition types. Abrams on abrams fire is about the samenas russ vs russ in the fluff. Explosive rounds are useless, you need to use the APFDS rounds to reliable penetrate. There are some materials and explosives discrepancies but they would lie in the russes favour, like how Imperial APFDS rounds have an admantium penetrator instead of DU.
Yes its a backwards design but its saved by 40ks hax materials.

>>
>>52962387
>>52962378
Some sommoning is needed, because your foot slogging units won't survive a trip across the board, but it won't be if they improve melee.

Are they going to get of the split rules?
I really hope they do but in my heart I know they won't.
>>
>>52962596
>but can we get a rough equivalence?

No. You're dealing with a company that canonically wrote that the Tau built an empire and fought off the Imperium when they didn't have Faster Than Light travel. If you compress the Tau Empire down so that there's only 1 light year between them, that means T'au gets word of the Damocles Gulf Crusade right when it finishes.

Real world comparisons flat out do not make sense in 40K, for a combination of the fluff writers not knowing much hard science or anything much about weapons, and crazy space tech. I mean, we could point out that canonically a Leman Russ has less armour than an Abrams but then you throw in that the Russ is made of futuristic metals and any comparisons go out the window.
>>
>>52962806
Man, if only every single unit in the Daemons codex had deep-strike by default or something.
>>
Newfag here. With 2 wound termies coming up, are footslogging termies with storm bolters, assault cannons and powerfists going to be viable again?
>>
>>52962806

You can still have summoning. You just have to pay. As you fucking should.
>>
>>52962722
space marine armour would really vary in effectiveness depending on location. he big, thick and rounded Pauldrons, breastplate and greaves are likely tough enough that you need true anti-tank weapons to defeat. Thinner bits like vambraces are probably vulnerable to midrange autocannons or anti material guns. Real weakpoints like the neck or elbow joints can probably be beaten by standard battlerifles.

A marine can potentially be beaten by small arms, but on the battlefiekd you're going to have to throw hundreds of hits into him hoping for dumb luck to find a weakspot. If you want to relaibly take them out quickly you're going to use anti tank Munitions.
>>
>>52962826
Depends on a lot. You still won't want them marching across the table, since they're slower now, but deepstriking them into a backline position might work out nicely. The extra wounds mean they're a lot harder to take out with infantry guns, and they'll have a better chance to survive AP 2 weapons. If plasma still only dishes out 1 wound, they'll be in a good place.
>>
>>52962826
Termies of all shapes and sizes will be more viable I wager, with even AP1 weapons giving them a 5+ save. Dunno about small arms fire though.
>>
>>52962826
Probably better with assault termies still, as ranged looks a lot less powerful compared to melee.

>>52962827
You mean as assistence dependent deepstrike?
I don't care about summoning if they make melee viable.
>>
>>52962768
well a NATO round can't penetrate 20mm of steel... (or it couldn't last I checked...)

I'm comparing space marine armor to vehicle armor which I thought would be more appropriate
>>
>>52962871
Good news, Overwatch is gone, and you strike first always when charging as well. You'll probably even be able to charge out of deep-strike, now that Falling Back means you can't tie up shooting units, so the excuse of it being 'unfair' doesn't apply.
>>
>>52962884
The thing to consider is that space marine armor does have a powerfield to it, which pretty much means that there's an extra layer of resistance on top of what the materials are made of.
>>
>>52962889
I wonder what the drawback to deep striking will be.

could a terminator take a hit from a 17pdr though?

Thats the core of what I want to know

17pdr could penetrate around 170mm of armor at about 100m. So its pretty damn brutal for a WWII era anti tank gun. Would pop a tiger from the front, no biggie.

But could a terminator take that kind of firepower?
>>
>>52961649
What about the Deathwatch? They rebelling too?
>>
>>52962898
If it's like AoS they'll not be allowed to move and have to be placed at least 10" or so away meaning you need a 10+ to charge.

It really depends on what AP2 translates as, if it's -3 then there won't be much of a change other than the number of wounds they have, if it's just -2 then they'll have a slightly better save against plasma.
>>
>>52962914

Tau already have a Talisman Relic in Farsight Enclaves that gives Adamantium Will, but other than that Psyker stuff really should be a weakness for them.

Dark Eldar I don't think ever really had anything, but with Ynnari an Harlequins they do have some options. Maybe they could make Mandrakes into some anti-psyker unit using their weird Shadow-magic.

Necrons are probably the most deserving of having some actual psyker defense, though this is one where having it as a Wargear upgrade available to HQs and some other squads would actually work.
>>
>>52963222
Tau should be completely vulnerable to psychic powers. Racial diversity means at least one race needs to really especially suck in that area, and they are prime fluffwise.

Dark Eldar already have some relics and items meant for psyker-busting, like the Haemonculus stuff, I expect those to get better probably.

Necrons I can see having some decent defenses too, maybe better at countering powers but less dangerous to the psykers themselves than the Dark Eldar stuff.

That's how it SHOULD be, anyway.
>>
>>52963222
necrons already have an antipsyker upgrade for tomb spiders.

Tau could just get psyker kroot again or the Nicassar could get 40k rules.

>>
>>52962803
Classic SoB. They usually win on turn 3.

What is surprising is that he won with a garbage list. Rhinos, Dominion squads with flamers. Battle Sisters squads with meltas. No escort for Celestine and the Repressor was used for some poorly equipped Battle sister squad.

The angle of filming, and the annoying guys commenting on the background was a buzzkill.

Dark Eldar Slaanesh cultists are my favourite little possibility. Taking the whole "use pain to patch up your soul" thing to its extreme and straight up use the souls of other creatures to bargain for your own soul.

Of course, it would never actually work, Slaanesh doesn't give a shit but the desperation of the Dark Eldar knows no fucking bounds.

The old WH faith system options would be a great starting point.

The old shield power could be boiled down to "Spend X faith points, the target unit with the AoF keyword are not affected by rend until the start of your next turn."

Come on man, you gotta embrace that fear that motivates all Dark Eldar. That dread. That possibility that this time, when you die, you won't wake up in a flesh pit with a Haemonculus tending to you but in the realm of She Who Thirsts.

Imagine it, instead of the namby pamby bullshit about not really knowing what happens when you die. All Dark Eldar know what will happen to them when they die for real, they are at the mercy of Slaanesh for all of eternity.

God it's so fucked up, that one of the most arrogant, aristocratic races, those who embrace a disregard of all others in the pursuit of personal advance are all motivated by fear and desperation.

There's no way at least one group hasn't tried the Slaanesh cult route, at least once. Considering what we know about other Dark Eldar that have tried to summon daemons to attack their enemies it likely ended quickly and bloodily, but hey when you're trying to save your immortal soul there's a lot of fucked up shit you consider reasonable, especially if you're Dark Eldar.
>>

>>
>>52964133
Dark Eldar refers to Commorrites, and any psyker activity, Chaos worshipping or communication with daemons is ruthlessly suppressed in the City. Even if you think it's in your interests to suck up to Slaanesh, every other Eldar in the city is going to treat you as an existential threat to their existence for drawing Her attention to them and your odds of being brutally and creatively murdered will immediately soar to spectacular new heights in a city where bloody assassination is already the most popular sport, state religion and favourite hobby of most of it's inhabitants.

Eldar corsairs or other rogue Eldar groups might try to establish a Slaaneshi cult elsewhere in the galaxy but realistically you've got about as much chance of establishing a large cult in Commorragh as you have on a craftworld or the Imperial palace. One or two Eldar covertly worshipping maybe, but a cult large enough to field an army AND still secret enough to be able to use Commorragh as a base? Doesn't really fit with the fluff.
>>
>>52964155
Mate, I don't want the Dark Eldar to snuggle up to that bitch. It's just a thing that's likely to have happened at some point for a small group given what their situation is. Some lower city gangs, minor nobles or some shit.

Snivelling cowardice in response to the whole "soul irreparably damaged for eternity" is not the Dark Eldar response to their circumstances, their attitude is way closer to "upraised middle finger" and I wouldn't have it any other way.

There exist multiple organisations within Commoragh whose main job is to make a mockery at even the possibility of death. Heck, the response of most Archons and Haemonculi to the impending doom of the city as a whole in a Disjunction was to just build more city and vaults full of pain slaves to hide in. I would not be surprised if most high ranking Archons and Vect had access to stolen spiritstones and Haemonculi were working on extracting souls out of said stones if worst came to worse and resurrection was still a possibility.

But let's not discount the lengths some lesser Dark Eldar, people like minor gangs and the parched might go to in order to 'save' their souls. Slaanshi cults in the undercity of Commoragh are a pretty solid possibility and probably arn't even the most fucked up things lurking down there.

I feel you yeah, and in main-ish Commoragh it's bloody suicidal considering how thin the Warp is at times let alone, as you mentioned, the kind of self-preservation methods that everyone else would immediately invoke against you.

I get what you mean about the fluff thing, which is why it's just one of the 'Oh that'd be kinda cool' ideas I endorse every now and again.

I do feel that Commoragh, looking at the amount of sub-realms attached to it as well as the weird depth the city has, being built inside the webway, lends itself to a sort of infinite feel. When you consider that the most popular method of reproduction is cloning, there are a fuck-ton of Dark Eldar, as there would have to be to sustain the sort of body count Commoragh has daily.

Average is 3 to 4, the potential was the entire template.
It was very common for competent players to pop transports and the cover with flames the dudes that disembarked from said transport scoring 6+ hits assuming the unit was bigger than 5 models.
Here? 1d6 hits regardless how big the unit flamed was.

Template was not perfect to represent flamethrowers but it worked as an abstraction.
Now? Flamers could be gatling guns vomiting bullets ignoring cover by sheer volume or a blanket of sticky flaming liquid covering an area. There is no difference mechanic wise.

Is that good or bad? We will have to see. Right now it feels odd. Blast is another subject, I would kept them but remove the scatter distant. I expect my troops to hit the wall of a house from the inside.

He's right. There's nothing to even support the idea of gender reassignment surgery existing in 40k, let alone you being able to become a space marine after one.
Stop injecting politics into 40k, we want to talk about super space men, nuns with guns, robot skittles and guys with balls of steel and a flashlight fighting space bugs, green football holligans, daemon super space men, space commies and robots, not your opinions on gender, an orange businessman and other bullshit.
