Fuck you, I want to play Tyranids. Specifically big bugs. I haven't played since you ran two hive tyrants, three dakkafexes as elites, and three gunfexes as heavy support with a pair of token troop slots.

Here's a basic list in anticipation of 8th ED, ~1850pts.

HQ - Winged Tyrant, 2 TL Devourers
HQ - Winged Tyrant, 2 TL Devourers
HS - 2x Carnifex, 2 TL Devourers
HS - 2x Carnifex, 2 TL Devourers
LOW - Barbed Hierodule
2-3x Spore Clusters if troops are compulsory in 8th
Fill with wargear/biomorphs

Would this just get shit on, despite looking neat and scary in my head? Does it stand a chance. Are there things I'm overlooking that big bugs wants to take in this day and age? Is there something to improve on? Should I cut the Hierodule?

Because space marines weren't ever really intended to fight space marines. They were designed to fight Orks, and humans that weren't part of the Imperium, whose tech ranged from spears, to Imperial Guard, to Tau, to Ad Mech.

Against normal dudes and Orks, bolters work fine as a basic weapon. For specific targets, you have marines with special weapons.

Cover improves your save (sisters in a forest with 2+). AP effects you more frequently, but less intensely. AP4 weapons now reduce your armour save, but even against AP you still get a save.

By the looks of things AP4 is now going to be -1 save mod. So it now effects everyone somewhat. But now only outright ignores 6+ saves. In 8e stormtroopers get a 5+ against Assault cannons instead of nothing. but now terminators also don't like them because they get reduced to 3+.

It depends what else they change regarding it. If it's easier to assault from deep-strike or on the first turn, then assaulting may just be more akin to close-range shooting. You'll rush in, kill them, or have them fall back and be useless for a turn.

They aren't a first founding chapter, for starters. They also don't have any weird mutations that make them werewolves or vampires or anything weird.

They ignore the typical restrictions on chapter numbers, but not in the typical methods that the original legions usually do. Instead, they're just constantly crusading. They're all assault armies, but they go about it in different ways. Space wolves tend to prefer ambush, cavalry, or viking berserk tactics, but tend to have fewer numbers.

Blood Angels go for jump packs with very rapid assault and redeployment. They tend to focus on more elite units

Black Templars get as many dudes as possible, give them whatever gear they have to spare, and either charge across the battlefield on foot or pile into a land raider.

Kharn got pissed that they wanted to stop fighting the Emperor's Children for the night on a planet that got so cold at night that it would kill even a marine, so he took a flamer and torched both the enemy's encampment and his own, forcing the World Eaters to fight the Emperor's Children for what little shelter remained. This basically fragmented the legion into smaller warbands who just kinda loan themselves out to any chaos lord who can promise a good fight.

I run flyers at 750 and don't give a fuck. People act like flying units are overpowered or something, but the reality is half the time you'll never even get to the thing you want to be shooting at unless your flyer can hover, in which case you can choose either not being able to get into a good position to attack or going into hover mode and immediately being shot down by everything in your opponent's army.

They are a unit type, just like any other. You just have to talk to your opponent before you start a game so it's not a surprise.

Yeah. It makes sense. Now you can't drop cheap assault troops on some expensive shooting unit and lock it down for a few turns at little cost. Now there's the counterplay with falling back, so the goal now is to do as much damage on the charge as possible, which is what it always should have been.
