3 of them have custom decks made for standard (one of them mocked me for buying outdated cards) and one has a planeswalker deck (the chandra one).
If the nixilis deck from "nissa vs ob nixilis" is a commander deck, then yes.

Here's what I use as a budget mono-black deck, less than $20 USD and can win a surprising amount of games. However, it is modern so your friends may not like that it uses a different pool of cards from their decks

Super simple aggressive black deck. Plenty of killspells, and tough creatures. Came up with it off of the tip of my head. Super well rounded. I've got a super cheap green black deck I like to use against newer players. I'll post that list in a few.

The main win con is lotleth troll. You can get him stacked quick by discarding the ghouls or even scavenging dead monsters onto it. Corpse jack can be a bomb on its own if your trolls keep dying. Perfect for scavenging onto.

Never discard a scavenging ooze to the troll. They exile things out of your opponents graveyards to gain you life and slowly grow into a threat if left unchecked.

I love playing this deck against newer players and casual players. There's so many "outs" that they often have a hard time keeping all the threats in check, but it's not impossible for them to beat.

Never sign in blood your opponent unless they'll die. New players think the life loss isn't worth the card draw. IT IS. If you play it just to burn your opponent, they can draw their win con which you may not have removal for. The sign in blood would have been put to way better use on yourself because you could have drawn into a removal spell.

It's modern legal.

Nixilis does suck outside of Commander decks that do the Exalted thing. Virtually useless.

What are your friends playing? just build decks to beat them... they play lots of creatures? Play creature hate, lots of Sacrifice, destroy, and flyers.
They play burn? Run massive creatures and revival. Or Extort is fun in casual
Control? Black has a tough time with that but cheap token spamming is good. Or some sort of alt win con. Like that enchantment that kills players at 13 life.

Don't skimp out on removal. Even if you're going for a high-speed aggro build, you still need a fair bit of removal. This is why some of the most successful decks in any format are aggro/midrange Jund and Abzan lists that run efficient creatures backed by by strong removal packages.

Is it possible to play mono black storm? Could probably throw something together cheaply too, if this is just something casual.
