I ran this against my mate's Dark Eldar today and thrashed him. It's completely bonkers though, because he knew I was bringing this exact list and decided not to bring his Corpse Thief formation of five Talos Pain Engines, and then spent the points on eighteen armour 5 jetbikes instead. We ended up playing Purge, and he basically just fed me singular units the whole game. He had 3 Ravagers with Dark Lances, about eight Venoms, three squads of those dumb jetbikes and a bunch of Wracks and Grotesques. I hit the Raider carrying the Grotesques with a railgun round and exploded it on the first turn, and all the fight basically went out of him and he started this massive suicidal charge. He was easily out of range of most of my stuff, there was LOS blocking terrain everywhere, so what he couldn't get out of range of (the Hammerhead guns and a Railside) he could have hid from. We ended up with a draw, he raped me on Maelstrom points but I got like 16 kill points from the mission being Purge (ITC combined mission format)

Basically, he knew exactly what I was bringing and decided to gimp himself (he knows I can barely deal with the Talos formation) and then spent the whole game screaming about how OP my army is. He can beat it, but he says that fielding the Talos is boring because he rolls everyone with it. Then he bitches for literally hours when he gets rolled because he didn't bring it. This guy is one of my best mates, /tg/. How can I get him to calm the fuck down about me switching to Tau? I mean...I'm not being a dick, right?

I think they are releasing the cheap army books all at once. In one great mass release Kinda like the AOS
"Chaos Battletome", "Order Battletome" and then the other two. So likely the core rulebook will drop with a books called (maybe) "Imperium", "Chaos", "Xenos" that will just be unit rules for all existing models and maybe a page of fluff on each faction. Later they roll out with individual books for each faction in the $30-40 range with more details.

Sons of Guilliman aren't new, they were mentioned as combatants on Armageddon back in 3rd Edition. The Shadow War Chapters are basically just the Chapters fighting on Armageddon (hence no Raven Guard and other 1st Foundings), and since Ultramarines weren't there they needed something else to represent them.

The real issue is the massive amount of vehicles Marines have.

I'm not crying any tears for 7th edition. The rules bloat was crazy, the convoluted formation in a detachment in a decurion bullshit needed to go, and the balance was all fucking over the place.

Hey guys assembling a Khorne Daemonkin army, I've been crossing over into world eaters territory cause I love the idea of taking 4 units of berzerkers and rampaging across the board.

I've been interested in learning WH40k (and DnD) but none of my friends are interested. There's a small place near me that plays both, and I see people talking about it on their facebook. How do I assert myself? Do I post on their group "New player looking for WH40K and/or DnD group)?

What should I expect to buy and pay? I read all the WH40k books and have grown to love the emo ninja Ravenguard. I don't see any models for them on GW's website.

Yes, you could just ask. Maybe paint up a small force so you can start playing with your own miniatures.
You have to paint them up yourself, if you want Ravenguard. Maybe there are some upgrade kits, but they're usually just for the more popular chapters, like Ultramarines, Dark Angels and Blood Angels (Unless you go to Forgeworld - they have Marines in all flavours)
Get a Start Collecting! Box, and the go from there. Maybe download the codex if you want, but since there's a new edition on the horizon, you really don't need to buy one.

So my group's moving up from 1500 to 1850 point games for the summer (although this may get BTFO given the announcement) and I though I'd give my mech-guard a rest and try a new army.

The intention is that it would be a company of pre-heresy Dark Angels who have recently been spat out of the warp on some Calibanesq knight-world and have started up a new Order to deal with the beasts (thus causing friction with the knightly houses and the social upheaval the fallen are known for)

He also refused to shoot at the Pathfinders, because they had 2+ cover from shrouded. Find out if your local shop has a "free/open play" day and find some folks playing then ask if they dont mind you watching as you are new to the hobby, shoot the shit/ complement their models as icebreakers.

Varies greatly but a 500pt army will suffice for smaller casual games so expect $200ish to start

Any normal space marine kit comes with a multi-chapter decal sheet that features the Ravenguard but you'll have to go out of your way if your want your boys to all don the beak but most bitstores arent too pricey and they should be easy to find. If you want an example of a starter army of Ravenguard you could get: Shrike, 2 boxes of assault marines and a skyhammer tactical squad for about $150usd which will make 500pts while reaching the mandatory unit obligations with room for the Ravenguard flavor to shine through.
All this being said 8th edition is out soon so do not buy any books but you can get your models ready for the 8th edition launch and beginner friendly events sure to happen

Actually, there was a horrible flaw with the list I gave you as it didnt account for wargear options. A better list would be: Shrike as HQ, 2 Scout squads as Troops, and 2 Assault squads for flavor. This would be much more lore friendly and easier to expand upon when you decide to move up into a higher point bracket while also letting you play Shadow War Armageddon using your scouts
