New AoS rulebook
8th ed release date
Plastic SoB
>>
>>52829858
Going by what they were saying 2-3 weeks ago, it sounds like 8th is still in development, or at least not ready to go into print.

Hopefully it's Death Guard, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's more Sigmar or Blood Bowl stuff.
>>

With the recent release of SoB rules for Shadow War it seems more and more likely.
>>
>>52830990
Fuck, you're probably right.
>>
>>52829902
True. Could be yet another boxed game though, like something to do with Shadespire. GW loves their boxed games nowadays.

>What if they announced a sale? That shit would be insane.
A sale would basically meant that the transition from old to new Gee-Dubs is finally complete.

>>52830990
I thought FW was doing Titanicus? Or maybe I just got that impression because it's set during the HH.

>>52830952
Hopefully. Hopefully Veridyan and Celestine finally made them catch on to the fact that people actually do want SoB, just not the clunky old 2nd edition metals.

>>
>>52833349
The rules are simple and they work. 40K has too much shit going on at points and a lot of rules could be merged or simplified
>>
>>52829880
We've had pretty reliable sources suggesting that 8th is going to drop this summer. GW probably wrote their preview article with such a cautious, speculative tone to try and keep backlash to a minimum - even if someone saw a change there they disliked, they might be mollified by the idea they're just "thinking about it".

If this is the case, 8th is probably already finished and being printed right now, which means I expect it'll be the next big 40k release. Death Guard would come afterwards - I don't think even GW would release a Codex then invalidate it two months later.

It might be a big preview of the Death Guard models though, that's plausible. We saw the Skydwarves for AoS well before they were released.

I'd say they are slowly but surely establishing some balance with each release. The pre-Rountree stuff is botched while most of the post-Rountree releases are okay.

I'm going to choose to be optimistic and guess this means there's going to be a simpler, stripped-down ruleset for beginners, which the more complex rules then bolt onto. So long as they don't bring in the fixed hit/wound rolls and random turn orders from AoS I'll be content.

The Heretic Astartes are Humanity’s greatest foes, traitorous Space Marines who have turned from the light of the Emperor and embraced the baleful glory of Chaos. Consumed with bitter hatred, these champions of ruin prey upon the Imperium they once swore to defend.
The warbands and Legions of the Heretic Astartes each fight in their own unique manner; the World Eaters, for example, are berserkers who worship Khorne, the Blood God, and fall upon their foes in a gore-splattered orgy of slaughter. The Night Lords employ terror tactics to soften up their prey before striking from the darkness, while the Crimson Slaughter are relatively new to the ranks of Renegade Space Marines using the poltergeists that haunt them against the agents of the Corpse Emperor.

All Fantasy armies still have rules, they just may not have models and the funny rules are present for some of them. However there is a decent chance they could update their rules since when they released a preview of possible points changes in the GHB2, Tomb Kings had a few models with their points changed. Ignoring them in face of the actual threat, Chaos.

Everything swallowed by Warpstorms is out of the menu for the Tyranids.

The Eye of Terror going by some reports is covering about 1/4 of the galaxy, that's ignoring other growing warpstorms in the galaxy.

The solution is to relocate inside Warpstorm where Tyranids will never follow.

It's right there in the Chaos Daemon codex. Tyranids Hive Fleets avoid Warpstorms raging in front of them. Also Tyranids avoid eating anything tainted by Chaos.

So the solution is living inside a Warpstorm. The endless daemon legions and behemoths in those storms will act like a natural defence system against any enemy keeping you safe.

Stupid sexy Death Guard
>>
>>52834216
Colour isn't right for DA and there's no specific chaoter markings.
They may be going back to generic marines in the starter.
>>
>>52834241
The problem with AoS's system is you end up with dozens of rules for different units which all do kind of the same thing, but do it a bit differently. Personally it's something which I feel 40k already does quite well - once you memorise the big list of universal special rules at the back of the rulebook, that's enough for 90% of the special rules you'll come across in the unit entries. I don't know how AoS players, especially those who play multiple armies, deal with juggling so many fiddly unique rules for each unit.
>>
>>52834279
They do it by spamming the same one.
>>
>>52834241
I hope not, instead
One of the things I like about 40k are the customization options for the units (that, while not as little as AoS, was still much lower in Fantasy), like the possibility of giving two of my Grey Hunters special weapons or the fuckton of options for the sergeant
But that wouldn't work with an AoS page organization, because you either need to take away a ton of options or have each page be ridiculously bloated

However using the AoS-style keywords would be perfect
>>
>>52834279
>I don't know how AoS players, especially those who play multiple armies, deal with juggling so many fiddly unique rules for each unit.
You learn stuff you use frequently quickly, besides that all the rules being on one page makes checking them dead easy instead of havjng to flick between a bunch of different pages because you still want to double check at a critical time in the game.
>>
>>52834311
I could see them keeping the seperate wargear lists but otherwise doing AoS single page rules.
>>
Why on gods green earth would they field the Sisters of Silence AND the Custodes wtf GW
>>
>>52834313
>besides that all the rules being on one page makes checking them dead easy

Right, but at least for me, IMO it's easier to learn everything first then not need to check at all. I can't remember the last time I needed to go back and check what a special rule did, unless it was one of the unique ones that don't appear in the core book's USR list.

>>52834311
The keyword system would be a nice addition, I'll definitely agree there.
>>
>>52834273
The worn out greenish colour and the hose coming from the mouth grill is very typical of DG Chaos marines. And with all the DG stuff already known to be coming... DG vs. Chapter X in the starter would be great.

>tfw all the DG shown are just snap-fit starter set models

Oh-no...
>>
>>52834365
Because they got models and if they didn't make 40k rules for them, people would bitch.
>>
>>52834369
Have you considered some other game? I mean, even current 40k isn't that complex compared to some of the games I've played.
>>
>>52834418
I play Warmachine in addition to 40k, but I don't see the relevance.
>>
>>52833790

I hope that fixed to hit and to wound are in, it's not like the current system in 40k brings a lot to the table that couldn't be replaced by having modifiers that effect both.

>>52834114

I'd say MkVII is iconic since it has been the face of SM for who knows how long now.

>>52834165

This probably does explain why the majority of IA went out of print. I do wonder though if what they're still selling is either popular or just stock they haven't moved yet.

>>52834279

Maybe it's because I came from playing Magic, but I think the system AoS uses is much better since the information you need to know is written out right there for you and off the top of my head nothing in AoS has the horrifying writing that some USR rules in 40k and Fantasy had.

I'm also all for unit types being gotten rid of or downsized in the number that exist since all they add is bloat that people end up forgetting or having to look up in the rulebook.

>>
>>52834418

40k seems to have bad complexity in that its current rules aren't so much about adding anything to the game as they are giving it simulation qualities, which bogs it down. There is also something to be said for getting rid of rules that prove themselves useless or which the majority simply don't use. I'm not sure anyone writes home about Soul Blaze.

This is true, I'll admit. Things like Soul Blaze or Missile Lock can easily be gotten rid of, while some stuff like Rage/Rampage can be condensed together.

Painted helmet Laurels are a RG thing, white helmets are their veteran marking.
So it's a RG Marine.

Not really,a bunch of chaoters do it. Its basically a standard rank marking.plus the armiur is blue-green so something like an ultramarine is more likely. Or its just a straight up new chapter. They made up the Crimson Slaughter for dark vengeance

It's not fucking baby blue so it ain't a smurf.

Dark Blue/green is how you show black while also maintaining true black for shadows.

Fast and stealthy vs slow and steady.

But sure man, belive what you want, this issue will need a "S3 wulfen/Megamarines are shoops" side too, you can be their champion.
>>
>>52835751
Considering they went with dark grey "black" on the bolter i wouldn't consider the helmet as meant to be black.

Angels of Vengeance
All black armour
Red gun casing

Black Consuls
All black armour
Red gun casing

Black Dragons
All black armour,
Bone spikes, horns.

Black Templars
Black armour, white shoulders
No disqualifying features

Iron Hands
Black armour, silver shoulder trim
white gun casing, bionics

Raven guard
All black armour, coloured right shoulder trim
No disqualifying features

Relictors
Dark grey armour, black shoulders
Renegades, black bolter casings

Revilers
All grey armour
Black bolter casings

Sable Swords
Black armour, white shoulder trim
Nearly no info available

Storm Warriors
Grey armour, yellow shoulder trim
Black bolters casings

So from this most likely candidates are:
Black Templars and Raven Guard

Storm warriors and Revilers are high matches too though they tend to be a lighter grey and are fairly obscure.

Relictors are a 99% match, but they are also obscure and declared Excommuniacate Traitoris.

At this point it seems a better system than bloated 7th 40k or 8th Fantasy. AoS was GW throwing everything out and starting work on a new system, not taking one that is three decades old, changing a few things around, and hoping that it's still entertaining.

Maybe it works in Shadow Wars, but the copy and paste of Fear and Terror is an example of shit that needed to be fixed.

I don't know, if you want a subtle way to say that you don't have to get brand new everything and that old 40k hasn't been forgotten (to go along with literally saying those things) then using a decade-old set in your front page promotional material is pretty good

So, it's definitely a chaos and imperial split. It's hard to say what the one on the left is, but the one on the right definitely has some Nurgle going on with it. Note the decayed look and the patch of 3 circles next to the skull. The left looks like a Dangle if you ask me.

Also, I was inclined to believe that this was a mk4, but the gorget makes me think they're MKVIII

I just looked up this generals handbook everyone loves. They added a striped down point system to a bad rule set that was 4 page's long. Holy hell, what did GW do to you people to make you care about this? Hell mageknight had a better rule set then this. "just move everyone into a clump into the center and roll dice you did it good job buy more mini's" the game.
>>
>>52837795

>just move everyone into a clump into the center and roll dice you did it good job

You should look at the six battleplans for matched play. GW learned that playing for objectives can be a more interesting and fun way of determining a winner than it simply being whoever managed to kill more toy soldiers.
>>
>choose a side
>chaos
>choose a faction
>chaos Marines, daemons, death guard, thousand sons

What did GW mean by this?

Holy fuck. What's worse is the imperium lists:
>LSM
>Knights
>Bangles
>Dangles
>Yiffs
>GKnights
>Deathwatch
>Guard
>Sisters
>Custodes
>Silent Sisters
>Admech
>Imperial Agents

The favoritism is real

Yeah the chaos list was depressing as fuck.
>>

They learned this like a decade ago when they released Epic:Armageddon

All fucking art now is squeaky clean, its called "cheap and popular". Look at this, art by the same guy in the 90's and now.

Invent a time machine or kill yourself.
>>
>>52837942

40k revolves around the Imperium. Also to be fair, Custodes (Outside of HH), Sisters of Silence (Outside of HH), Imperial Agents, and maybe Imperial Knights can't really function as their own armies. They're factions you add on to an existing Imperial army to sure up weaknesses.
>>
>>52837972

I'm legitimately surprised they mentioned night lords specifically in their CSM description, but EC and WE are enough of their own faction that they could have been mentioned. Also, no mention of KDK at all.

>>52838096
Yet GW lists them as a whole faction

Because under the current army building rules on units in a single detachment have to belong to the same faction or no faction. It's kind of similar to AoS as well where some armies are the only model with the army keyword. Except in matched play for AoS you can either build an army where all the units share either the Order, Chaos, Death, or Destruction keywords or you can restrict yourself to one keyword like Stormcast Eternals and get access to bonus stuff for doing so.
>>
>>52838150
That's AoS tier.

What 'name' chapters haven't had a starter set?

Dangels had 6/7.
Templars had 3.
Smurfs had 4/5.
Bangels had 2.

Yiffs and Bangels both got limited run starter sets in the last couple editions.

No this is fan art by Luth from DA
>>

It's on the 40k website.

But really it probably doesn't mean anything more than GW knows that independent retailers are also places where people who play card games and RPGs hang out.

Not only that, but Tomb Kings was one of the most overpowered factions at that, which drove their second hand prices through the roof when they went OOP, even compared to other whfb stuff

>Don't they have a certain play style?
>I would imagine they would be primarily focused on numbers and melee.
They are in theory but their last 2 codecies were pretty badly written, whcih made them so underpowered that the only way to somewhat keep up was to use generally overpowered flyer rules and spam flying tyrants.
With the new edition however it looks like we're going to get patches and the like in case something like that happens again.
>>
>>52834279

Because shields being different helps differentiate armies, they're usually the same across an army and easy to understand too.
>>
>>52838084

>>
>>52840838
More time actually. But you only have to pay the good AKA famous AKA expensive artist for a sketch, then put the grindwork onto nobodies.
Who then proceed to use digital tools because its all they know.

You can put the celebrity artist as THE artist of the piece, and for a fraction of the cost. Hence why nobody likes Jim Lee anymore, he's a massive sellout.
>>
>>52841001
They do this with AoS as well.
