There can be extremely overpowered creatures on the island, but they should be territorial at most, or even passive, only attacking when provoked.

Are you talking about the ones where you follow a god and they have taboos you shouldn't commit and whatnot? Because that isn't what I'm talking about.

I tried searching the dropbox for the one I was thinking about, but couldn't find it. There is one where you are in a forest and you have to survive the night. Then you choose which nightmarish creatures you want to hunt you. The creatures were very well done, but obviously you had basically no chance to live.
All you got were some choices of a few basic items and some relatively normal allies. That kinda cyoa is op in a bad way.

Why not a survival CYOA that keeps the usual high difficulty, but has you stuck in a Groundhog Day type scenario until you escape? If you die, you wake up back on Day 1 and have to do everything all over again.

Hard Mode: The world randomly reseeds with every loop (including events and the location of creatures, items and landmarks), so future knowledge becomes unreliable.

Lunatic Mode: Looping weakens your body and mind, reducing your ability to get a headstart on survival preparations. You will recover after a few days/weeks/however long; however, the effect of "looping sickness" stacks, so dying too many times in quick succession could reduce you to a mindless, withered husk (which you may or may not be able to recover from).

Since you've changed Hull Extension to give +2 rooms per purchase its made it extremely hard to decide what Destroyer to take for my build.

The PI Vd3 comes with enough hanger spaces that with mods will let me take three fighters. It's also designed with deep space exploration in mind which is a perfect for my future career of searching for Herald artifacts. Plus I'm thinking its designed to be very comfortable ship to live in. But I don't like the way it looks.

The X33 Tribe looks cool and seems like its very high tech.

The Acheri also looks cool and I get a discount on it thanks to my background

I fucking love the look of the Longbow but its stats are a bit lacking compared to my other three options. Plus its also a Red Dagger hull so it could get me some unwanted attention.

Offworld Obligations is due to my inability to leave my former timeline alone. I can't bring myself to give up who I was, resulting in constant problems for my former home

My two bouts as Test Subject have resulted in "mood ring" style irises that always telegraph my emotions, which is a blessing and curse for someone with a Silver Tongue, and similarly technicolor blood that seems to correlate with whatever I've last drank.

My items are designed for intrinsic defense, incredibly high mobility, above average human capability, and adaptability. I even used Physical Restructuring to boost up my normal looks and physical fitness, with the added bonus of my Natural Physique trait to build on and maintain this head start.

The few million in extra credits I have goes towards supplies and repair parts for my ships as well as any bribes or fees I may need to pay for access to where I need to go.

Some of the crew are people my team rescued when responding to distress calls and the rest are paid for by the higher up Gazers. Actually, rapiers/estocs aren't much less heavier than normal swords. Their blades may be thinner but they're also longer.

Starting off her career, Battlemage Buvelle is an able apprentice of acoustic magic and has a somewhat diverse portfolio of potential, tying in defensive wards to her songs for allies when on offense, and disruptive illusory distractions when on the defense. On a personal level with fellow mages, she tries to do what she can to sooth the minds of those troubled by their trials, either with music or simply talking their way through the conflicts and fears. Between lesser battlefield aptitude and her own skill set, she starts out mainly helping anti-corrupted strike teams in conflicts and helping survivors recover.

The squadron assigned to the skirmish were ready for a fight. They weren't prepared for an ambush; somehow the Warlock knew we were coming and had a Soultooth swarm in position. Lea and I were separated from the rest. It was a bigger challenge talking her around to even trying to follow through on our mission, but letting the Warlock establish the staging ground wasn't acceptable so close to home.

So we started a call-and-response piece. She'd sing to get their attention and pick at their numbers a bit, then go silent when they got nearby. I'd follow up with enough soundbursts to draw them in the opposite direction. After we'd repeated a couple of times, she responded with a different set of bars; a development to mean that she had her target in sight and needed one more chorus to finish up.

It was a long walk home after gathering what mementos and tags we could from the rest of the squad, but we were able to report a success.

Lea and I stuck together after that. Marksmanship hasn't ever really been my thing, but I'm hopeful that she'll come around to doing some public music performances some time. For right now, we've managed to add a bit to our band and I'm happy with that. Dharrad Uran was the one who got us home after we lost our way just after the Skirmish. Luck or not, his low tenner works perfectly with Lea's Soprano; they've been a joy to compose for. Tanja (That nicname is ridiculous, I'm sorry) rounds out our odd little group. Her percussive spells have been really interesting to see, and I think I might be able to mimic some of it with Divine in my own style without cramping her's.

More so I'm glad most of them have martial training. The occasional Sentinel that broke through the lines might've been deadly if we hadn't been able to fend for ourselves, and I'm still not much in a brawl. We weren't the ones to put down the Det-Kot; bardic support on the road, but genuine defensive support once the fight started. I've been getting better at playing off the sacred as well as sacrilegious intonations to ensure our friends and allies are allowed to do their best. I think their coordination is starting to improve even if we didn't plan for that with the leaders of the reclamation assault.

Still, hitting the crescendo right as we rolled over their retreat was perfect.

At the very core. A CYOA is nothing more than presenting a choice to a reader. "Good" is a highly contentious word in any way you use it. There are different ways for something to be good and many ways for something to be bad.

A design choice can be anything. So I can't really say unless you specify what part of the design you're thinking about. Point/Choice system? Genre conventions and trope fidelity? Width and depth of the underlying world?
