Does Barbarian's rage normally count character levels or Barbarian levels?
>>
So, I'd like to pitch that in the PoW Errata, they remove or totally retool ordained defender.

As it stands you switch your initiating stat to wisdom, which since it grants will and improves the all important perception, is vastly superior to intelligence.

They gain a discipline for nothing. They also gain a more relevant knowledge skill in exchange for one rarely used.

And then they get a blessing or inquisition, lets nor forget the ever popular conversion inquisition, letting them totally dump CHA and use wisdom instead.

All this for the cost of two feats on a class that is basically feature complete without any feats.

There's a reason basically every single warder app you ever see in the /pfg/ games is ordained.

Ways to fix it might be to change the wisdom focus to charisma and force them to give up a discipline for the new one they gain.

You know what I don't like about wisdom? There are three gish prcs in pow1 and endless gestalt combinations, but only wis-based caster that doesn't suck is empyreal sorc. Others are healsluts and/or divinesluts or contemplative wilder. And it's a wilder.

Sigmund and Lysander split from the party, leaving Gloriana and Bonbon to be downed in one hit by a Manticore which then downed and dragged Cashmere away 4 rounds later as she burned through all her spells trying to buy time for the men to reach

Cashmere logs coming sometime

It was a tough enemy for sure but there was some pretty bad RNG there stacking against her

>but the kid is now having asthma attacks because the miasma is poisonous to non-nightwalkers and the kid's mask isn't working
>also there's a horrible spike-throwing chimera in the woods
>Sigmund and Lysander carry the noble boy all the way to the mansion where the fire's cleaning off the miasma
>but the girls are about 700 feet back. Cashmere questions chasing the beast in the woods while they're all still battered from the troll fight
>Gloriana and Bon-Bon both say it's only proper to take down the beast
>suddenly, they get ambushed by the chimera
>gloriana gets spiked, but is still on her feet and gets buffed by the jester's jingle and Cashmere making her HUGE
>Sigmund and Lysander charges back, but they're miles off and can't move fast through dark, thick woods
>the beast is kiting them, but cashmere goes invisible and Gloriana manages to take a powerful set of swipes at it
>badly injured, the chimera perforates the paladin and she goes down. It then takes Bon-Bon, who hadn't healed much, down in another swipe
>Cashmere summons up a spooky skeleton because she's terrified even though invisible
>It tries to batter the chimera, gets smashed into bits.
>She summons a dog. It fails to even get noticed
>The beast aces perception rolls, pounces her, rips a chunk out of her leg
>She screams and runs, and the beast aces another roll and spikes her in the back and she's put out of the fight, though is still conscious

>Lysander and Sigmund are still running, but Sigmund has finally got into range and takes a shot that just nicks it as it grabs Cashmere in its mouth
>The dog also is barking like mad and biting at the thing
>lysander runs up yelling and the beast and watches it run off without it holding anything visible, feels rather chuffed about scaring it off and goes to help the fallen two before realising that Cashmere's gone missing.

Not him but fun fact:
Knots weaken rope, without exception. Certain knots, hitches (knots that tie a rope to something else), bends (knots that tie two ropes to each other), whippings (knots made to tie up frayed ropes) are 'beginner' knots, not just because they're easy to tie, but also because they make a rope much, much weaker.
As an example, the simplest knot, the Overhand, weakens a string or rope by over 70% of its original strength. Try tying an overhand loop (it's the one that comes most naturally when trying to make a knot) in a cotton string and tugging the string in half - it will always, without exception, break at the knot unless it was already damaged elsewhere.
The noose people usually use to hang themselves is fittingly known as the hanged man's noose, or Jack Ketch's knot, and is an extremely strong way of creating a loop.
Signature very strong knots include the Allbright Special (bend), for angling, Sailmaker's whipping that can only be used on multi-corded ropes, the Simple Simon under (bend), and Bachmann's hitch (for caving and climbing).

>>

>>
>>52818817

>>

>>
>>52818817
5eg is also full of boring normies that are somehow apalled by "weeaboos" on chinese cartoons imageboard. There is simply not enough people that care about your silly thread wars and anime OPs (especially when they ask relevant questions), deal with it.
>>
>>52818916

5eg is actually a fun, vibrant place.
>>
>>52818941
If only 5e was a vibrant, fun game.

When the fuck is Psionics and ToB equivalents going to finally drop for it so I can abandon this game forever.
>>
>>52818968
I still don't get why they decided feats had to be optional and also replace ability score boosts when leveling. Like, shit nigga, you have a whole list of pretty okay reworked feats and you just go tell people not to use them? Your shits already bland, don't actively remove spices.
>>
>>52818968
5e is pretty fucking bad and I don't think it's going to be fixed anytime soon. Much like Pathfinder
>>
>>52819017

Some people can't handle spice, anon. Wizards of the Coast is trying to make the most flavorless gruel possible so *anyone* can lap it up, like the people who think Dark Souls needs an "Easy" mode or walking simulators are the height of storytelling.
>>
>>52819032
But hey, at least with 5E I don't have to put up with Paizo's crap.
>>
>>52819046
>implying WotC is any better
>>
>>52819042
>people who think Dark Souls needs an "Easy" mode or walking simulators are the height of storytelling.
But there's nothing wrong with either of those. Walking simulators can be really engaging story wise, and sometimes people do just want to enjoy the story of a game without all the hassle of gameplay.
>>
>>52819042
>Dark Souls
>Needing an easy mode

But that's just "get a tower shield". Game is already easy.
>>
>>52819065
Dark Souls has no story. If you remove what makes the gameplay engaging you pretty much don't have anything.
>>
>>52819082
Okay, but the gist of the argument could still apply to other games.
>>
>>52819046

Wizards of the Coast is every bit as SJW as Paizo, as anyone who follows Magic: the Gathering can tell you. Difference is, WotC is actually somewhat competent at mechanics and storytelling.

Does this make them even more dangerous than Paizo? Probably.
>>
>>52819082
Dark Souls requires you to actually read the goddamn item descriptions if you want a story or an inkling of what the deepest lore is, fag.
>>
>>52819105

That is literally every videogame in existence
>>
>>52819115
That's not a story. Those are vague nods and contextualization to actions. At the absolute best, dark souls has little vignettes of action but no story.
>>
>>52819105
>WotC is actually somewhat competent at mechanics and storytelling
........maybe where MtG is concerned, because their iterations of D&D are FUCKED.

Even 4e was discovered to have such shitty mechanics that it made the game nigh unplayable once the 4urries got their heads out of their asses about how perfect the game was. they had to say "you need to fix two entire monster books or use this fixed monster book, and errata is a feature, not a bug". But by then it was already on it's way to the grave.
>>
>>52819158
>errata is a feature, not a bug
Uhh.. isn't it like explicitly not a bug?
>>
>>52819098
I'd argue otherwise.

Ideally, the plot and mechanics of a story based game should intersect. The gameplay should reinforce the plot, themes, and world building set forth by the game's story as much as the games story justifies the game-play.

Plenty of games have done it.
Nier, Drakengard, Undertale, The World Ends with You, Lisa the Painful, and Jounrey all from the top of my head.

Dark Souls, while lacking in story does set out to create a dark, lonely, and tense atmosphere. The hard game-play reflects this Same goes for Darkest Dungeon.

And to bring this back to /tg/ and Pathfinder, why do you think horror doesn't work in Pathfinder? It's all story right? That's because the mechanics of Pathfinder don't reinforce horror.

Why the fuck did they choose to name a gish and a class VERY subpar at using magic at all the 'Magus', after the origin of the word "Magic" and "Magician", the Magi of Zoroastrian Persia? What were they thinking? Magus should be some sort of prestige that's like a Mystic Theurge but better or something.

Is there any actual point to making a male character? Any traits you give a male character, you could also have put on a female variation of it. Sort of, yes. I know I noticed the campaign just by looking through the roll20 LFG. Thought it sounded neat, started working on an application. Noticed he mentioned /pfg/, so I thought I'd look here to see if anything was being said about it despite not usually frequenting /pfg/. Found a new thread, fell asleep cause I was tired, woke up to find people bitching about applications, worrying about only women getting in, claims that your application has to be a meme to get in, etc.

Still working on that application, but now that I know /pfg/ is watching and judging all the applications, I kinda feel nervous. It's weird coming up with a character when a good cut of a general will probably judge you based on what you apply with.

She can just duck into it. Literally only her square is not AMF'd, she walks out of it to move Spheres around and into it to protect herself from magic.

>friendly dragon or dozen
Yeah about that, it's negative aligned, the entire Conjuration School is Impeded, aligned to Evil, Heavy Gravity. It's so big as a plane that she can afford to just drift her castle away until our dragons die because it's negative energy. Even if we bring Death Ward, there's a limit to how many dragons we can bring solely due to Death Wards prepared, even in scroll form, and the possibility of failing the spell. Also, there's a shitton of guards as I said. there's nothing really stopping us from running straight through the AMFs except the spheres but you don't get a save against the things and can't even use Wish to bring yourself back.
DM insists there's a way to beat her but I dunno anymore
The worst thing is, she's one of the minor recurring villains of our LAST campaign turned immortal, after the LG paladinfag 'redeemed' her. She was level 8 at the time and the worst she could do was move around a bunch of skeletons. Now she can move around orbs of fuck you.

Yes
Then find and/or buff a strong enough paladin to make a Sunder check with the result of 25+ the demiplane's caster level.

I'm looking for a couple ideas to spice up a heist-type encounter for my party in a few weeks.

I've given them the mission to bust an alchemist from a rival country out of house arrest and covertly spirit her across the border without the soldiers keeping her confined suspecting what's going on. The party's got all right social skills and is pretty good at stealth but they've only got a little smattering of magic aside from one generalist incanter. The others are a ranger, a unchained rogue, and a mageknight.

What are some non-combat based difficulties I can add to make the breakout more exciting if there isn't a combat/chase scene, and any tips for making sure security can't be fucked over by any dickhead quietly approaching a lone guard and casting Charm Person or the like successfully?

Depends on number of people, what level you are fighting at, how many characters/monsters are casters vs how many are martials, knowledge of the game, and what medium you are using to play.

My group of six that uses voice chat over roll20 had an especially long combat recently. Only lvl 3, 6 players against 5 entrenched trogs, half of which were casters. Summons were used, beatsticks paralyzed by Hold Person, chokepoints greased to buy time, a dozen turns were spent vomiting from two instances of stinking cloud, and the end result was diplomacy leaving only one trog unconscious (and dead) and no party members severely wounded after 10+ rounds. About an hour, probably. All of the players being new to pathfinder and dnd in general, except me I guess.
>>
>>52820359

Considering the tone of the game and the party realizing they left their women under assault by a bullshit strong enemy, I wouldn't hold that against them.

What counts as a standard recovery?

>sheathing as a free action
It gets the bonus feats to be able to do this, but maybe throwing in the ability to qualify for Mixed Combat at level 6 might be okay.

>threatening while sheathed, and being able to draw on AoOs
You don't actually need this because when you can draw and sheath as a free action you simply draw your weapon at the end of your turn, and immediately sheath it before using your mithral current strike.
Weird thematics but mechanically viable.

No free action recovery is actually what makes a lot of Path of War classes busted as hell. See Zealot and to a lesser extent Warlord. Being able to constantly hammer the enemy without stopping is an issue, "stop and take a breather" recovery provides some form of non-negligible opportunity cost.

Could I get some crunch advice?
What are some ideas for a soul stealer?

I've been thinking a lot about immature motivations in powerful baddies, and the inherent strengths and weaknesses of lonely people.

I want to build a particularly young (teenage boy, probably human) character who, at the height of his pubescent horniness (and probably after getting rejected by someone he liked), had a Greater Daemon visit him and parade in front of him a harem of beautiful succubi and erinyes. The Greater Daemon promises(!) they can all be his if he purchases them, but the only currency the lower planes accepts is souls. If he wants them to serve him for eternity he must gather souls of sentient beings and trade them in the Soul Trade, particularly those of the innocent or the good as those are considered a delicacy in the lower planes. The Daemon then offers him some kind of power to get him started.

Thus setting the stage for an evil PC character who's tendencies are motivated more by naive lust than by any particular desire for wanton murderhobo destruction. Though I -would- like this character to still indulge in some murderhobo destruction when the campaign/setting/plot allows it, he's doing it for a specific reason rather than some kind of Kantian 'Evil for Evil's sake' sort of thing. He also has a motivation to adventure for loot and levels because powerful souls are worth more and are generally more challenging to acquire.

He's a teenage edgelord who's entitled, selfish, cocky, and possessive, but fun at parties (because people let their emotional guard down in revelry), fantastic on mandolin (because reasons), a great listener (because he's genuinely interested in what you want and how to manipulate you), generally carries good booze and drugs (see parties).

I want to experiment with the idea of a character that doesn't 'get' close relationships. He feels at home in a 'party' atmosphere because people act more predictably and are more shallow, yet more vulnerable.
>>
>>52821210
>The dragon was CR 17 I think? It was an old red dragon.
Ok, http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/dragons/dragon/chromatic-red/red-dragon-old/ can cast all of that, but not silent. So you had a round with scrying sensor, and a round of gargantuan dragon roaring verbal components for wall of force. That's not exactly 'suddenly'.

>>
>>52821210
Maybe do a lot more research on it before going anywhere near it's territory. A dragon that old and powerful has got to have information about it somewhere.

1: Tactics. You know it breathes fire and can drop in anywhere, and it has the ability to cast scrying spells of some sort. You know who is vulnerable to it's breath weapons and who it wants to attack first. Retrain some feats into teamword feats like Shielded Caster and Bodyguard, because you KNOW it will invariably target your caster. You know how everyone says "oh, heal after combat, don't memories healing spells, don't bother with cures, don't worry about having channel energy?" /tg/ is WRONG. Breath of Life, Cure Critical, and Channel Energy keep things like this from killing half your party in two rounds. You know it can cast wall of force - time to get that Rod of Negation you haven't been saving up for.

2: Resources. Diamonds are now your most valuable resource, right up there with Fire Resistance potions, wands, scrolls and rings. Tower Shields, and the Animate Shield Spellcan help provide cover agaisnt firey breath. DON'T CLUMP TOGETHER. that's how casters with color sdpay win D&D, because enemies group together. Or, if you DO group together, have tower shields. That blindnsense can be a lifesaver since you will be able to detect being scried upon. Your caster is at the level where detect scryiong (24 hour duration) and False Vision are a thing. Illusions (specifically Figments) can falsify information on a scrying sensor. On the plus side, chances are he was scrying the kobolds and not your party specifically.

Know your enemy, and make notes of what he can do and what spells he casts. These are keys to your eventual victory.

Why not?

Siege weapons are hilariously ineffective and slow to load.

The largest most damaging bombard in the game only does 9d6 damage and takes a total of 9 full round actions to set up. You also need at least 4 men to operate it.

Keep in mind 9d6 damage is only 31 damage

4 level 1 human warriors with a +3 composite longbows with rapid shot do almost double that damage at less than a fraction of the cost.

Keep in mind with wyrm sniper you can reduce the men needed to operate it to 3 and the full round action load/aims to move actions and the number needed to load by 1.

Which still puts it at 7 move actions and a standard to fire with a crew of 3 for a 9d6 damage hit that can't even benefit from the classes's specialization in siege weapon (can only put firearm training on LIGHT siege weapons). Depending on your level of vital strike you might get to double, triple, or quadruple that if you fire for straight damage though.

Which is still garbage compared to a single bow user. You would have to have some kind of vehicle with multiple siege weapons mounted on it and either loads of undead to crew them or get your DM to let the Skeleton Crew spell crew siege engines instead of boats and have a specialized gunner fire them all back to back as they are loaded. Maybe even a Siege Mage instead, since they get Master Siege Engineer even if they don't get Muitions Master and Skeleton Crew from Wyrm Sniper.

Only advantage siege weapons have is their insane range increment meaning you might get a few shots before they even get to you.
>>
>>52821265
This comfort in revelry and discomfort in intimacy works for his character because he still views most people as just walking sacks of Soul-Money. Or he thinks he does. I'd like to make him possess a tragically unrecognized craving for validation and an obviously fragile ego that feeds his negative self-perception and compels him to seek 'the answer to all of his problems' in the form of 'acquiring power/wealth' and simply buying the validation he needs from a disingenuous evil outsider that everyone (but him) knows will simply kill him and devour him the moment she (or he) gets him alone.

Anyway, fluffy character stuff aside: What's the best/simplest way to go about crunching this character out?

There's a Soul Eater prestige class, but it definitely feels like a spellcaster class and I'd like this character to be more of a martial because they feel (to me) more party-like and boistrous. I've been leaning towards AntiPaladin because they can find those delicious Good and Innocent souls the Daemons love so much. I suppose I've been overlooking Bard as a base class. I can't put my finger on why Bard doesn't feel right, all of the pieces are there, my description of the character's interactive habits seem to lean towards bard, but it still doesn't feel right... let's put a pin in that and keep throwing ideas around.

From the lore, Daemons primarily use Cacodaemons to harvest souls. Cacodaemons are relatively low level, easy to summon, the Soul Eater class gets a pet Cacodaemon at 1st level, I'm pretty sure most GM's would let met take a Cacodaemon as my Antipaladin's Fiendish Boon at 5th level to further my soul-hunt. Basically so long as I can access Cacodaemons I can technically harvest souls.

So I guess my first question is: What are some clever and interesting ways different classes can summon Cacodamons to do their bidding?

2nd Question: What are some off-beat builds for Antipaladin? I was thinking TwoWeaponFighting Sword and Spiked Shield.

It might be worth it to retool Pathfinder. It would take some work, but ultimmate campaign and intrigue lay a decent enough ground work. I actually just now talked with the wizard's player. I was wrong, he didn't get attacked, he died to Crush in the same surprise round.

Apparently I didn't realize this, the dragon did the following:
>breath weapon'd
>stopped flying so it fell on part of the party for Crush

That's what killed the wizard.

correction: /tg/ assumes people playing wizard aren't idiots

he clearly says they were "hunting" the dragon

What the wizard should have done when he saw scrying sensor is realize he didn't prepare any anti-scrying measures when hunting a dragon, grab as many party members as possible, and teleport the fuck outta there.

Dragons are one of the better monsters for killing wizards if said wizard isn't a Dazing Fireball douchebag. They can get around most of the tricks the wizard uses to make other monsters fail so hard to threaten them, and this one got the drop on the wizard rather than the other way around.

If a dragon gets the drop on you and it's not like a very young one, people die.

>>
>>52821998
>What the wizard should have done when he saw scrying sensor is realize he didn't prepare any anti-scrying measures when hunting a dragon, grab as many party members as possible, and teleport the fuck outta there.
I was the one who saw it. What happened was I saw it and turned to the party. The GM said the teleportation happened as I was finishing my sentence "Hey guys, there's a scry sensor over there we should get out of here." because the dragon teleported in 12 seconds after he saw us.
>>
What did we learn today?

Casters are gods...

But the plebs controlling them? Only human.

I like how everyone also ignores the fact they just attacked and killed an entire group of kobolds immediately prior, and assumed the caster has all his spells still prepped. Schrodinger wizard strikes again!

Well if they're that high leveled then how much of a threat could kobolds pose to this party? Surely it wouldn't expending all the good shit you prepared for that day.

>>
>>52821940
If he can cast see invisibility, he is not flat-footed and has an immediate action.

Contingency's trigger can literally be "I think X" which you can do as a free action outside your turn. There is a spell that immediately comes to mind for this: dimension door.

As for magic items, I'll give that to you with truesight active on the dragon.
>>
>>52822110
>The only isuue with that scrying dragon I can see is that he can't cast greater scrying, and regular one has ONE HOUR cast time. And requires at least some knowledge about the target.

Sort of highlights the issue that if you're playing a wizard in a game that gets to level 7 spells with a DM who is willing to scry and die you, maybe you should prepare a bit better? Did the DM hold back for six months to to spring this style on you?
>>
>>52821672

>>52822166
If he has those spells in his spell book and has them prepared for the day.

I usually take Limited Wish and forcecage as my two choice 7th level spells. you do only get two to pick from, the rest you pay for or learn from stolen/bought spell books. You don't know all of the spells instantly.
>>
>>52822217

Spec-Ops tells you "just turn the game off, bro" if you want to be the hero, which is shitty meta-narrative that runs concurrent to... You know, playing a game.

NieR simply has you replaying the exact scenarios you were in before, only this time with the enemy's babble translated by a monster in Kaine's body that NieR cannot hear. It's not saying you're a bad person, it's giving you perspective.

Yoko Taro was very interested in September 11th because of this, and in fact Yonah's birthday is September 11th. The game is about how failure to communicate leads to tragedies like you do in NieR.

So how does the Selective Tangibility feat for the Deathless Ghost actually work? It lets them interact with objects normally, but they have 0 carrying capacity because of no Strength, so what can they actually do with it?
>>
>>52822116
Barbarian player here.

The kobolds were a looting party being led by ones with CL, mainly a half-dragon kobold sorcerer.

Our wizard player didn't have EFS (talked to him and asked). He's a transmutation wizard. He gave me the list of spells he normally prepares:
>Black Tentacles
>Dimension Door
>Ice Storm
>Elemental Body I (school slot)
>Unprepared
>>
>>52822270
Contingency is level 6 however. It is always the first 6th level spell I take on a wizard because it is the best defensive spell in the game.

You can contingency a dimension door if you don't want to loop with contingent action to get out of this bind.
>>
so let me get this straight:
>scry sensor appears
>dragon teleports in
>dragon casts force wall so they can't escape and also breathes fire on them and also crushes them in one turn
hmmm
either that dragon had some legendary actions going or the party had at least 1 round to teleport, force sphere, whatever would save them
so either the GM fucked everyone or the party flopped it really hard
which way was it?
>>
>>52822245

Big dragons should generally be something you're taking your own life in your hands to fight.

I mean, hell, in 5th edition they mention a Blue Dragon tends to consider "rocks fall, everyone dies" an acceptable tactic to use on intruders unless they're feeling particularly sporting that day.

Fighting a green or black dragon underwater isn't a picnic, either.

Recently, my group was tricked into going out into the wilderness to rescue a bunch of kids that were allegedly taken by a cabal of witches in the forest. What the townsfolk who recruited us didn't tell us was that they were an underground cult to a major demon lord - the kids were gonna be their next major sacrifice.
Our DM was planning on having us go through a pretty intense series of events through these woods, with a lot of influence taken from Blair Witch. It was supposed to be dark and suspenseful.

Was. So very much was.

See, by complete accident, our group had managed to get control of a Slasher a while beforehand - basically, Jason Voorhees, complete with incredible regeneration. Our DM wasn't expecting it at all, but he rolled with it - he doesn't believe in giving players shit for solving problems in creative ways. (We decided to call him Buddy in-character.)

>Wait. Were there any teenagers that were taken as well?
>DM: Yeah. Why?
>Then why the fuck are we just gonna tramp through the woods? Let's just let Buddy lead us to them.

And so we used Jason Voorhees like a hunting dog to find a bunch of stolen kids - the DM thought it was awesome, and rolled with it.
>DM: You know how the forest just goes totally quiet when something ominous is about to happen in a horror movie? Well, you can actually hear that happening as Buddy walks. It's like a bubble around him - wherever he goes, bugs and owls just go dead silent until he moves away.
