Gurren Lagann, I think that exact clip is from the end of the second movie (there's a series and 2 films, the films follow the same plot but condensed). If you watch the series, don't bother with the films, just watch the last 15-20 minutes of the 2nd one because the final sequence is changed for the better.

If you like Humanity Fuck Yeah it's a fantastic series.

it's better when you realize he's having a fist fight with the literal personification of universal entropy, an eldritch horror that has kept all sentient life in the universe suppressed for centuries

And the reason he's having a fist fight with it is it destroyed his galaxy (yes) sized giant robot made of other giant robots, and his former enemy/father of his waifu sacrificed himself to turn himself into a giant drill with a face in order to strike and weaken the eldritch horror to allow him to get close.

So he could punch it in the face.

Sadly it's one of those shows like the JoJo's that got so popular the fanbase made lots of people hate it so if you ask /a/ it's a pleb anime for normie secondaries and the show it's based on/inspired by/a spiritual successor to, Gao Gai Gar, is much better and over the top (the latter part is true at least)
>>
>>52800840
JoJo has the advantage of being an adaption of a far better manga.
>>
>>52800357
It's kind of like how Ta Nehisi Coates acknowledges in "Between the World and Me" that Mike Brown attacked Darren Wilson before being shot, but then says that people who bring that fact up expect him to act like an angel and are holding him up to standards that are too high just because he's black.
>>
>>52800870
Lets be honest with ourselves, Araki can't pace for shit and his art is wierd, if the whole thing wasn't such a JoJo's BIZZARE adventure it wouldn't be as popular as it is. JoJo is the manga thats so wierd japs thing it's wierd.

Spin was best gimmick powers Stando's can fuck off fite me
>>
>>52800885
The anime can't pace for shit either, no anime adaption ever has. Unless you're talking about shit like Trigun or FMA's first series the manga is always better for the simple fact that you can just zoom through it in an afternoon or two.

That's the feeling I get when reading translated LNs.

I don't want to bash people who translate this for free, translating literature isn't easy, and translating it well is really fucking hard, and it's already a disgustingly underpaid job so I won't blame people doing it for free for doing a sloppy job, but every time I get the feeling that a lot of the subtext and nuance from Japanese just gets lost in translation.

I mean I'm terrible at Japanese and only know a bit of Chinese, but it feels like the fact they have different characters really puts a huge wall between the original text and an accurate translation, making it feel like a dry laundry list of words.

Hey, maybe Japanese LN writers are all universally shit and that's how it's supposed to read even to a native speaker, but I don't know.

>That's the feeling I get when reading translated LNs.

I translate LNs, and

>translating literature isn't easy, and translating it well is really fucking hard,

while that's true, it's kinda a stretch to call LNs "literature"

>but it feels like the fact they have different characters really puts a huge wall between the original text and an accurate translation

The main loss in translating Japanese to English is wordplay, which does often involve the fact that a Japanese word can have two glosses (kana and kanji). So an edgy Jap writer might write a word that has the sound "shi" in it and use the "shi" character that also means death because they're writing about some grimdark badass. In Japanese you just read right through that shit without a big deal but how do you translate that kinda thing?

Also the Japs FUCKING LOVE puns, and puns are hard as shit to translate. Probably half the jokes in any given piece of Japanese writing (high lit. or crap LNs or anywhere between) are puns.

>Hey, maybe Japanese LN writers are all universally shit

This is also true, though. LN writers are 99% garbage, we're talking Stephanie Meyer-Twilight level shit. Because Japanese writers who aren't shit write actual literate--novels, plays, poetry.

Light Novels are like if you took Young Adult and Teen Romance and Dimestore Fantasy and those Fabio-covered Bodice-Rippers and smashed them all into the same genre.

And that's why I love them, and love working them.

Haaaaaaa no. The anti-spiral mecha had a planet floating over it's head, if it had been galaxy sized that planet wouldn't have been visible, see pic for details. That's not even close to galaxy. Hell, that's not even solar system. Only TTGL fanwank says it's galaxy.
>>

This is from the movie version, so it was a giant robot that had a size that was a sizeable percentage of the volume of the universe

Right before that shot the two mechs are shown clashing drills and the force is pulling countless galaxies into the point where they meet. And before that the two are shown towering in space with galaxies floating in the foreground and appearing tiny by comparison. Clearly the antispiral planet just scales with the mech, that planet alone is the size of several galaxies at that point.

Yet you are sure the other thing is actually a planet, and can definitely judge scale based on that?
>>
>>52803883
>pulling countless galaxies
There were pulling something, but because it's a pocket dimension and everything in it (the only possible exceptions being the human pilots and the anti-spiral planet) is an energy construct created for that fight, those are not galaxies. They look like galaxies, but they're not. Even when the fight i shown from the perspective of people on Earth, the mecha are moving SLOWLY. But to fight on that scale, where a punch crosses more space than a galaxy's diameter in a second, they would have to be moving several billion times the speed of light. But they weren't. From human perspective, they were slow. Yet more reasons the implied scale is a lie.
>>
>>52803963
It's the only thing besides the human pilots that is even suggested to be a physical object from the real world. You're okay with taking purely visual evidence that supports your claim, but visual+dialogue evidence that disagrees with you is out somehow? The series offers more evidence that my argument is right than yours.
>>
>>52804025
How do you know that was the anti spiral's real homeworld? It was never shown in the real universe, so where did it come from? I'm not the anon who is stating that everything was galaxy sized anyway, I'm saying that the scaling in that scene was utter nonsense.
>>
>>52801954
>he hasn't seen G-Reco where the main character uses proton torpedoes as warning shots
>>
>>52804091
I'm going by what the how tells me, they say it's the planet, it's the planet. Know what else they said? That they fought in a pocket dimension. They also showed the robots moving in slow motion. That's three pieces of evidence supporting me, and you have...they looked like galaxies. That's literally it. Visual similarity, zero dialogue. Just admit the robot's not as big as you thought.
>>
>>52803298

White Doll has that and more. The Perfect Pack may have some massive bullshit in it,
but it's still not enough. Also the final fight against the Kabakali was a minor letdown because the Kabakali is sex, and I wanted more from it

I stand by my statement. In universe, he's called the perfect minus, beyond even Kumagawa. The only reason he was "defeated" was because of the rules of the serpent trial and he walked away perfect while Theme Song was half dead. There's no abnormal in the show able to defeat him, nor is there a Style user. Maybe Nienami could do it, but it seems unlikely. Only Iihiko or Anshin'in could beat him, even the Not Equal Shiranui couldn't do it because his Inequality affects others not himself

Different anon, and not to be a dick here but word of God says it's right. We are trying to apply logic to a series that functions on rule of cool. Spiral energy is seemingly able to resurrect the dead and generate infinite energy, and the series is full of batshit stupid stuff like probability altering missiles, spontaneous evolution, and ghost pep-talks.

Anyone who approaches these scenes and attempts to apply normal, logical physics will see it doesn't make sense, but it's a fucking anime about people overcoming everything with sheer willpower and lots of hammy speeches. >fish/tentacle monster behind the counter
>weird bloody knife and pie
>woman grabbing boy has tentacle hand
>tentacles on the floor behind that
>nightmare face behind the sad dude looking at the pie
>the person holding the cup is a woman, but still knows how to write
>eye on the plate at the left
>"blind man" is reading a newspaper
>bloody handprint next to his head

Anyone spot anything other weird objects or inconsistencies?

And there's an eyeball on his plate.
Yeah, that's about what I'd expect from the press.

>>eye on the plate at the left
he already called that one

also it's hard to make out the words on the page because cursive and compression artefacts, but the words "creature" and "tentacle" are visible so the POV IS clearly aware of what's going on

It's actually a tumblr blog, guy takes commissions to draw utterly absurd stuff. Can't remember the title offhand, but if you reverse image search you'll probably run into it. Good stuff on there.

I guess. I figured since the roadrunner is the prey animal and its life is on the line, we were supposed to be rooting for it.

I mean, even with nature vids, they usually cast the predator in a grim light, and we think of the prey as the underdog even though the predator is just as likely to fail and die.

>the person holding the cup is a woman, but still knows how to write
But women can write. Maybe not anything of quality, but they can still put words on paper. Twilight was a book, after all. Every single woman I've met except one has really good handwriting, and two of them are actually pretty well with words. The one who writes chicken scratch I get along with really well. Coincidence?
>>
>>52806517
>Coincidence?
Not really.
People who write chicken scratch are either completely uneducated and thus never bothered practicing writing, or they have so much on their plates that is more important that they cared less about how they're writing and more about what they're writing.

This is especially true of people involved in serious academia. Physicists, mathematicians, medics - they all write chicken scratch.
Beware the doctor who has nice writing, for he is likely completely and utterly retarded in all the other matters.

Ok, where can we learn more?
>>
>>52806669
As someone who knows a few things about clinical stuff, decent handwriting can be the difference from wellness or sickness. Pharmacists can have a hard time deciphering shitty handwriting. There have been cases where pharmacists have given patients the wrong medicine or the medicine in the wrong amount.

Doctors with good handwriting at least do not err in terms of communication. Then again it's usually best to just type things out like an upstanding American of [the current year].

When I watched it the Germans were all smiles. Eventually they stopped celebrating their goals but I think that was out of respect. Or fear that it might start some shit considering what soccer culture is like

I don't know, perhaps googling it would help you, I've given you enough data to find it on your own, that video is on Youtube, and thats all I remember, I don't have the link, and even if I did I wouldn't give it to you.

What this anon said, the animators and writers went out of their way to make the roadrunner a dick. The few times the coyote spoke he was a little full of himself but likable and friendly.
