Rolled 25 (1d26)

I can't cast to this edition.
Monster Hunter subedition.

Superheavies all need Hellstorm weapons, Custodes are looking suprisingly traitorous 'cause the EC stole their Storm Eagles. Phaeron can't Chaos tonight and the AL set up more code-memes, Rad Snek Magos>Spess Wolves and Magnus shows off his gainz. Lorgar looks better grounded and Standard RG Praetors wear Cataphractii. All this and more in the last thread >>52733779

Reminder of how the Heresy started in the first place:

Phaeron and Lorgar sat one night
The skies were clear, the stars were bright
The wind was soft, the moon was up. Phaeron drained his coco cup.
He licked his lips he felt sublime. He switched off Emperor’s Question Time.
Lorgar cringed in fear and dread as Phaeron clasped his hand and said:

Let's Chaos, let's Chaos, Chaos while the Warp is right.
I'm ready to sell, a heretical
Faith - I've got an appetite.
I'm on fire
with desire.
I could mindfuck half the Astropaths in the Telepathica Choir.
Let's Chaos, let's Chaos tonight.

But then Lorgar said:
I can't do it, I can't do it, I believe too strong in Daddy Emps.
A rejection to defection
Stops us being spiky plebs.
No derision
My decision
I'd rather watch the building of my daddy's vision.
I can't Chaos, I can't Chaos tonight.

Let's do it, let's do it, do it till our souls go boom
Go davinite,
A new god a night,
Pentagram in the living room.
This want
for a confident;
Quick we'll use the sink as a baptism font!
Let's Chaos, let's Chaos tonight.

But he said
I can't do it, I can't do it, my worshipping days are gone.
Now see here, Monarchia
Makes me think religon's a con.
I'm imploring-
I'm boring-
All the goat's blood would ruin the new flooring!

One, holy shit. I guess this is why Archmagi don't have an EW option, even without the deathstick. Does he have a model yet, or can I convert one? Can't see him on the store.
I'm not usually one for running named characters if I don't Counts-As My Dudes, but I'll keep him in mind if anyone gets too smug about the "Muh Primarch" beatstick competitions.

Lorgar wasn't on Calth, Guilliman was on his knees after receiving a blow from Illuminarium when Angron arrived and Lorgar started to do his chanting to turn him into a daemon.
Corax almost killed him, that's true
>>
What legion would use this as a symbol? DAs? ECs?

>Guilliman was on his knees after receiving a blow from Illuminarium when Angron arrived
What is it with WBfags being unable to get basic facts right?
>>
>>52752058
Oh but Guilliman already hated everything about AL tactics before that. Alpharius then pulled those tricks trying to make a good example of why his idea of warfare is effective. Not a good way to give an example to defend your standpoint, but then again the primarch all seem to be a bunch of idiots now BL had their way with them.
>>
>>52752101
Oh, it's you again. The anon who knows nothing about what actually happend at calth.

Kor Phaeron put an anathame to Guilliman's throat. Then kept babbling so much that Guilliman had the time to get his powerfist in position to tear Kor Phaeron's heart out.

I know Trump makes it look like if you repeat lies enough people will think it is true, but that only works on poorly educated idiots with no free will or thought of their own.

>Lorgar wasn't on Calth

>Kor Phaeron put an anathame to Guilliman's throat. Then kept babbling so much that Guilliman had the time to get his powerfist in position to tear Kor Phaeron's heart out.
This isn't the same thing as carving the Guilliheart out.
>>
>>52752239
Exactly. Because that never happend. Kor Phaeron was so bussy stroking his boner over the fact he had a primarch on his knees and a blade to said primarch's throat that he failed to actually do anything with it.

He is a Word Bearer, so he failed to consider the fact that Guilliman has enough common sense to grasp the opportunity (and Kor Phaeron's chest) to retaliate, rather than sheepishly listen to Kor Phaeron seremoning.
>>
>>52752239
>>52752300
Sounds like the retarded scene of a retarded author.
>>
>>52752188
Losing the war on Calth is only Erebus and Kor Phaeron's fault, the first one for being a coward and the later for trying to corrupt Guilliman instead of just killing him. Obviously the Ultramarines fought well and knew how to adapt to this new kind of enemy. Lorgar did everything quite well since Istvaan V but he failed permitting Erebus do his plans and not just executing him for his failures.
I am not saying
>blabla Lorgar is the best, Guilliman fail lol
I just think the evolution of Lorgar since Istvaan was to a more powerful primarch and not just the weak priest he was before.

Not a SW player, but I think/hope we may see some early models for their legion-specific stuff. At the very least that would allow SW players to decide whether to wait for those or convert their own.

Other than that, I'd personally like to see some more generic praetor/centurion models - on a bike, on a jetbike, with a jump pack, that sort of thing. Stuff people can then use as a basis for converting their own dudes with whatever weapons they want.

Oh, and arlatax battle-automata. Where the fuck are they, forgeworld?

Bit late on this reply, but Biostrip 20 is a decent paint stripper for metals, plastic and resins. Doesn't reek like some other stuff, takes anywhere from 15mins to strip the first layers of paint, and longer for more. Plastic and Metal are fine after hours n the stuff, but don't leave resin in the stuff over night. And stip it over multiple sessions. Use hot soapy water and a brush to take off the paint etc. Just be careful with the temperature (never boiling water) overwise you'll soften the resin and damage it with the brush.

>>52756711
Volkite will be better with armour save modifiers - more kills against power armour, means more bonus hits, of which a greater proportion go through armour again.

However, the biggest change I think we might see revolves around the humble power sword. With an armour save modifier it becomes worthwhile to take against 2+ saves, and without unwieldy I think we may see a whole meta shift in terms of character loadouts. Also means units like IF templar brethren and TS occult cabal who bring all power swords become threatening to a lot more units.

Personally I'm hoping they make Thallax guns actually good, and give me an excuse to load up on Heavy Bolters on the Whalebird.

They are, but a 10% increase in damage doesn't make up for having the entire unit's attacks blunted by one 2+ sarge that exists in every unit and becoming more or less useless against Termies, vehicles or Primarchs. The Unwieldy doesn't matter a whole lot because I2 was striking last anyway and they can take a couple powerfist hits if it means they can hurt the wielder. I have other tools for Tactical blobs, but the artificer sarges on everything make AP3 pretty damn useless too half the time, I'm not sure what the idea behind that upgrade was.

It'll be like flying Suzerains but worse and nobody will EVER be able to call their shit because everybody likes Sanguinius, and how his legion is as fast as the EC and as choppy as the WE, where assault cannons are more common than fucking Heavy Bolters (and the chapter version has psykers and fast tanks) only because they're red loyalists.

>Axe+sword is a really weird weapon combo from a fighting style perspective
Using both would make sense for a regular marine officer. It makes less sense if both your weapons are AP2, but I guess you could use the axe like a hook to weaken the enemy's guard and to deliver powerful blows, while the sword remains a balanced all-rounder that can both attack and parry.

If I had the points, I'd use a power fist and a sword not unlike Guilliman. I think gauntlet and sword is a legit fencing style

While I agree that is a good way to gentleman's agreement the issue if the other guy doesn't want to back down but I still think that they are playing the rule wrong. May be that FW intended the rule to be played the way you said but the wording is pretty iron cast. It says that at least half of the units in the army must be vehicles with the Tank type, RAW you can't play with an uneven number of units unless the greater chunk of them are tanks.
>>
>>52759894

>>
>>52760252
For god's sake, 'how should I kit my cataphractii/veterans/etc?' is such a useless question because it depends on what you want to do with them and there are so many possible options. It depends on what your army list is and what legion and RoW you play. The best answer we can realistically give you at the moment is 'magnetise them'. Units in HH are much more specialised than in 40k and need to be geared towards a specific job rather than trying to make a unit an all-rounder.

Well, it is the original tank warfare style of the legions, so yes, yes you do need tanks. It's kinda the theme. The mechanised warfare option isnt well done in the rules, once the DAngels get some more love, i'm expecting some method to choose between tanks and mechanised infantry, and some Master of Armour variant to get around the HQ weirdness.
>>
>>52761259

Yes, I do see that now. The RoW caught my eye since I like predator tanks and I like dreadnoughts. But if the list requires me to diversify so much that I'll have to invest in the Sicaran models and the Medusas just to make it work, then I should just work on something else for now. Thanks for the tips.
>>
>>52761023
Anti infantry. Combi flamers, heavy bolters and marksmen. Makes for effectively rending flamers for up close and bs5 rending bolt guns for the rest.

Anti tank. Machine killers, combi meltas and missile launchers. Makes for a ton of st9 shots, deletes a vehicle even with armored ceramite, too many st9 shots.

Sicarans are probably the worst tank option available, since they cant be squadroned and thus lose the main benefit. None of what i listed are necessary, they're options. I'm partial to cortus dreads normally for anti-knight shenanigans, and they are buffed through the stratosphere in Ironwing, which kinda makes me want to do one if i didnt dislike DAngels. You can make a fine list with just a termie command+praetor in a raider, two tac squads in rhinos, two mortis dreads and six predators with sponson lascannons. That'd total up at about 1750, add in a big tank of choice and 250 points of jets or artillery or mechanised infantry or more predators or whatever you like and you've got a solid 2.5k list.
>>
>>52761536

Oh god this so much. Maces don't pierce armor. They bludgeon what's inside despite the armor, hence the high strength modifier but poor actual armor penetration. It makes sense the way they did it. The likelihood that you harm the target is high, the big question is whether the armor does its job.

What? Maces put holes in plate because of their highly concentrated area of force. Actual war maces tended to be quite light overall so the actual concussive power is quite low overall. If you fight someone in plate you use a mace if you fight someone in maille you use an axe and if you want to have a more versatile weapon you take a sword.

Maces were used for crowd control on unarmoured peasants in the early modern era because the actual striking power is so weak.

They concuss but don't put holes in. Even if they did put a hole in plate, their prongs were way too small to get past the padding or penetrate deep enough into a vital area to incapacitate. They were for beating your opponent into a crumpled can. Sufficient quality armor would be a good protection. Cheap plate wouldn't.

>One example of a mace capable of penetrating armour is the flanged mace. The flanges allow it to dent or penetrate thick armour. Flange maces did not become popular until after knobbed maces. Although there are some references to flanged maces (bardoukion) as early as the Byzantine Empire c. 900 it is commonly accepted that the flanged mace did not become popular in Europe until the 12th century, when it was concurrently developed in Russia and Mid-west Asia.

Flanged maces were by far the most commonly used type of mace used by the gentry in medieval warfare by the time plate armour came around.

A good lecture on armor but also on armor quality.

I would very much like to see you take a flanged mace to a piece of quality plate armor vs minor unlanded gentry plate. One will be very difficult to dent let alone penetrate with the mace, the other will crumple like an empty tin.

Makes weren't designed to pierce armor the way a bec de corbin or polax was. It was for concussing past the armor, not punching through.

Now the problem I have is that I feel that I'm not winning due to tactics, but rather due to just how overly powerful the talons army is, making my games feel empty and unfulfilling. Has anyone else had the same experience? My group plays word bearers, death guard and emperors children for context. It's not really fun for anyone atm, and I'm considering playing at a points disadvantage or something. Any tips for those armies to counter the talons codex?

Stupid sideways pic.

That's what I mean. Night Lords are shitty, hence why they're on the bottom. For whatever reason, I play them anyway.

Too much.

Too. Much.

Bump your point levels up; 30k runs like 4th ed 40k points wise so 1250pts HH is essentially 500pts current 40k. You are running a Draigostar essentially at that point level and Legions only tend to get fun when you can start taking options

Yes. The Equinox Interceptor was used over Prospero, and the Airguard who had to face it called it the 'Angel's Scream' for the roar of its engines.
>>
Generally speaking, is it better to leave Rhinos naked, or load them up with weapons? It's amazing how many options they have in 30k.

Huh, cool. The more you know, right? Fluffbunnywise the Xiphon is mostly mothballed in most legions, so I figure everyone has an interceptor that does the same job but better or the same job but cheaper. Enter flying wing Aerospace Fighter/interceptor, because Sons of Horus remind me of the SS somehow and Wolfensteining spess elfs and lesser legions makes me happy.

Speaking of that, what is the realworld inspiration for the Sons of Horus? Like how the WE are based on the germanic tribes of Roman era

Too many
Loyalist DG and IW tie on top. Iron Guard/Death Warriors.
As well as the Reductor to complete the Breakers triad.
The WE would be my Sworn Brothers, to complete the MEATGRINDER trio.
I also absolutely love the AL's operator theme. I wish their legion specifics weren't reverse-Inferno tier.
But I also respect the Ultramarines, and IFs are my secret siege crush because IFxIW are OTPs all
Especially if the last two were traitors because I wrote about those in the general aaaaages ago. Crimson Fists and Brotherhood of Thorns.

If I could wound you despite you wearing armour, would that be AP or Str?

>Like how the WE are based on the germanic tribes of Roman era
The WE are based on the Thracians. They're literally Spartacus: The Legion. They even have a unique close combat weapon that's better at puncturing armour than everyone else.

The Sons of Horus have a touch of the ancient Germanics in the whole wolf obsession, tribal roots and grouping, pack hunting and fast attack focus. But for the most part they're not expressly based on anyone.

They have Power Glaives, Legatine Axes or Swords of Double Wounding? :^)

Which Scibor mini are the legs from?

>tfw just arrived, barely caught up with the bread and it's already page 10 and too late to make a summary, mainly because you're phoneposting.

Are any of those weapons available to the entire army for free?
>>

>BA & WS haven't been yet released and are already better in melee than half the legions.
Just you wait motherfucker :)

Shame the WE crunch doesnt follow their roots like that.

As for why I associated the SoH with WW2 Germans is likely their MO being lightning decapitation strikes, which is classic blitzkrieg in surgical form.

Is there anything that describes more about that Equinox airframe wise? Seems like it would be the successor to the Xiphon with the legions as well, or was starting to replace it a la Sicaran.

Night Lords were heavily restrained until Istvaan V. Even then, they went overboard with their tactics. Assassinations is a pretty straightforward deal, one that doesn't require flaying the flesh of their enemies as banners and trophies.

Alpha Legion caught shit because they either knew better despite priding themselves as one of the best organized legions or they were full of hot shit who were all talk and fail to deliver on the quality of service that they promise. Either is valid.

If you're using 40k rhinos, just don't glue the hatches and acquire turret gunner bits. That way you can customize your list on the fly.

It's more a matter of is it worth loading them up with weapons and shit vs just taking a cheap transport? I always leave shit like that unglued anyway.

I managed to phonepost a new bread

I'll be waiting right here with my universal rage, re-rolls to wound of 1, S5 and rite that gives hatred. Everyone else has their fancy units with their fancy wargear and special rules. I'll be happy to choke their guns with my bodies and see how many saving rolls they can make in CC.

Actually from a company called hitech. I got 5 pairs and shoulders from scibor to make the emperors companions
>>
>>52763982
I always more equated their fast attacks that take out the enemy's leadership structure with ancient Germanic ambush tactics. The blitzkrieg was much more shock and awe than quick and clean.
