So are the Superheavy Tanks still lackluster next to Knights in this, or are some of the ones less common in 40k as good? Stuff like Malcadors, Fellblades, Typhon. Anything there worth not just taking the stompy robots instead?

One, pics of chainblade Adsec plz. Two, no, you don't need Secutarii, Fearless Adsec are just fine and are a lot better for tarpitting. Secutarii work better for sticking in Triaros and being more offensive, since they do good damage at range, but they're not Fearless so can't CC or defend for shit.
Droplites are a good suicide squad, but other than that they're on the "good but not amazing" shelf, and get better with an Axiarch and Titan.

Is this a decent list? Is four aircraft floating around too cheesy? Fluffwise I was picturing these as loyalist Emperors Children who decided that their legion wasn't nearly loyal enough, but the Custodes were clearly loyal as shit, so they would try to emulate the Custodes. Thus the large amount of fliers, to copy the floating, and the BS/WS boost. The Leadership penalty I took as something of an excessive watchfulness for any signs of disloyalty, to the extent of intepreting casualties as a sign of the Emperor's disfavor.

Tactics wise it's something of a blunt instrument, with the terminators/marauder blobs in storm eagles to punch the opponent square in the face, while the smaller rhino squads hold objectives. I figured once they'd dumped off their troops the storm eagles would be my AA/Anti armor option, and the fire raptor is there to be extra anti-horde.

Yeah, that's the one. Anyone can take one? That's damn helpful, since I kind of want to do a Mechanicum force with lots of tanks rather than robots. Looks cool, too.

Is it any good? Malcador chassis tends to die a lot when the local Guard player brings his Defender, although my 40k Mechanicus basically ignore armour values at all times so that's probably not the best metric.

18'' Hellstorm template with Str 7 AP 3. But if that isn't enough it can take an upgrade that makes it poison 2+ AP 2.

Basically if a Malcador Infernus is on the field any and all infantry have to stay inside transport vehicles, otherwise they're gone. This thing can move 12'' and throw down an 16.5'' flamer template sidesways to erase an entire gunline.

The Admech can spend their slot on most imperial superheavies (occasionally qualifying as "indigenous war machines" and the works of random magi) I think, but don't quote me on that - and the Malcador is Heresy-era anyway

Hey, nice. I always thought the 40k Admech didn't have enough variety.
Looking at that LoW uses bit in the Mech book I can take two of the damn things at once.

Compared to the Warhound I can get for a similar point cost, they even have an extra Hull Point (counting void shields) in exchange for slightly worse armour and the ability to position each separately, and Blessed Autosim on both is mathematically identical to the 5+ Void Shield regen. That'll make a hell of a centerpiece, although I don't swim in enough money or dickishness to take two.

On the topic of edge highlighting black : I've started using a beige like bleached bone rather than grey or white for that. Takes a little practice with how much paint it needs on the brush (very little) but then it's more easy to apply than white or grey, and generally looks very decent.

You can convert BFG to 30k pretty easily since it's hard to make imperial ships/space marine ships all that different to their current stats without making a bunch of special rules.

That works to our favor as BFG battles can be done with current stats pretty easily and custom ship classes could be easily added

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Phoenix Power Spear" bullshit that's going on in the 30k system right now. Guardian spears deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a set of 'genuine' guardian spears in China for 20 Yuan (that's about $3) and have been practicing with them for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid greenstuff with my spears.

Terran smiths spend years working on a single guardian spear and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Guardian spears are thrice as sharp as Astartes swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a power sword can cut through, a guardian spear can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a guardian spear could easily bisect a marine wearing full cataphractii plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why the xenos never bothered conquering Terra? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Custodes and their guardian spears of destruction. Even in the Unification Wars, techno-barbarians targeted the Custodes first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Guardian spears are simply the best weapon that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the 30k system. Here is the stat block I propose for guardian spears:

(Melee) S+5/+2, AP 1/2, Master-crafted, Armourbane, Rampage (always active because Custodes fight as individuals), Shred
(Ranged) S6, AP3, Assault 3, Master-crafted

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of guardian spears in real life, don't you think?

My vets are Rubric torsos, arms and tabards with Mk.IV legs+backpacks, Achean pads and TS legion upgrade heads.
It looks very TS, but the non-uniformity of the overall look lessens the 'HH'-ness somewhat. Works for Vets I think, I don't plan to use Rubric bits on any other unit other than the odd Sgt or character here or there.

Well considering that big E was deep underground with his ass glued to the golden throne to keep suprise backdoor daemons out, I doubt crashing spaceships into the palace would have helped a whole lot besides making it even more complicated to get to the Emperor.

Setting his ship to self destruct is something only AL does, Horus very much intended to survive the ordeal and rule humanity in person.

And AL might appear to not aid the traitor case that greatly, but remember that for their plan to eradicate Chaos Horus had to win, but not too easily. They probably thought everything was going fine and setting up for what came after Horus becoming ruler of humanity.

Eh... the current version of the Legiones Astartes army list doesn't seem to allow it. It gives you a bunch of Lord of War choices, and the relevant one, War Machine Detachment (1-2 Super-heavies with 8 or fewer hull points), only allows the following:

>An entry from the Questoris Knights army list found in the Crusade Imperialis army list (so, knights that aren't Mechanicum-only)

I don't think there's anything unusual about painting up a Roman legion and making up adventures for them. We don't have documents accounting for what every unit did, and that applies to HH too. FW's gone out of its way to keep things vague and let us make up a lot of stories - though yes, under stricter limits than you get in 40k. (Unless you're playing Tau - they have a narrow time window and area in the galaxy where it makes sense for a Tau army to be.)

I could say that my White Scars brotherhood was at Chondax with most of the legion and stayed within reach of the main fleet (so I can justify using the primarch if he's ever released) while they were stuck behind the Ruinstorm for four years raiding and delaying the Traitors. Then they make it back to Terra and take back the Lion's Gate spaceport alongside the 1st Terran Tank Regiment during the Siege. The survivors then join the Scouring, after which they might get squeezed off into a successor chapter. That's more scope than I'll ever need.

Personally I think pre-highlighting and shading might be the best way to go.
ie. Your base is a slightly darker silver, which you highlight with a really bright silver, then a couple of thin coats of clear red over the top.

They made a decision to give the normal Malcador to the legions list and not the Infernus. Fair enough, I think a lot of people would have a problem with it unless they made some changes.

By "and variants" I think they just mean the same vehicle with different weapons, like the Macharius Vulcan or Vanquisher. I say that because the Crassus is listed separately and it's on the Macharius chassis. So FW doesn't consider the Infernus to just be a variant of the Malcador.

I'm often confused at what is/isn't a variant with the Malcador - you've got the Valdor, Dracosan and Minotaur, which are Malcador chassis but named differently, you've got the Infernus, which is named the same but is at least as different as a Valdor, then you've got a variant that you can have in the profile, the Annihilator (battle cannons -> lascannons) and a (shit) one you can't have at all.

And if the mechanicum can't take them (I don't know if their version of the rule got dropped) then no-one can take all the variants - the SA get closest, but don't have a Minotaur (or a defender, but no-one cares)

Lorgar was always a mad zealot. The only detail you'd need to change on his model to cover any point from loyalist up until right before daemon prince is to take the 8 pointed star spikes off of his mace for early on.

I painted my custards with a shiny silver/nickel sort of finish, gold details, black leather segments and crests. One or two have red cords or purity seals.

It's a shame that something a bit different from Termies is a Signals-Blob-Gunline list. Not a dig at you, just an observation. The cult powers make this more interesting than a vanilla list.

For bikers I guess you'd go for the hammer of wrath attack or increased save. Though desu I'd drop them and add something actually Thousand Sons to your army, you could juggle some points around and get a Blade cult (or even your not-wanted Termie squad) inna transport.
Your bikes stand out as odd in a list that's built around a zillion guys not moving and throwing out Divination bolter attacks. You need something killy.

Its very difficult to incorperate transports as the max squad size limitation kinda forces you into a gunline army

How many points would you put a Thunderhawk at? I think 500 would be nice, as it provides a nice contrast to Baneblade-Equivalents in having less staying power but more mobility, provided the flyer rules ever get reworked to not be a binary clusterfuck.
