It would be pretty sweet if there was a way to improvise combos, but I don't know of a system that would also include a way to have mechanical effects from the combos

I replayed it a while ago and it does feel like a big love letter to Dragonball. I don't know how much Toriyama directly needed to influence them though, it feels like the whole project was build around him.

I mean Dragon Quest is the biggest RPG franchise in Japan, but Toriyama doesn't usually have as much influence on that besides the art.
