Yes Sylvaneth Wood spam is balanced. It is only broken when you don't pay attention to the deployment rules, and end up placing larger woods than you should actually have been able to.

If you leave large, open spaces in areas you really don't want them to cover with woods, then you only have yourself to blame.

I still think you should take the time to thin those green highlights by like, half. Highlights should make what you are high lighting stand out, they shouldn't be the most noticeble part.
The inside of that one with the bell looks unpainted as well. If it is painted, but you just chosen a dark greyish colour, then I would advise going for a dark red. It doesn't need to be detailed or anything, it would just look a bit more natural.

That being said, I like the flesh. You done a good job making it look infected. I think you should get some Nurgles Rot technical paint so you can have a bit of fun with that.

Not him, but on closeup I agree. It's pretty jarring. However, painting like that Is best seen accross the table. It's tabletop painting vs display painting. Those blightkings are going to stand out in a good way.

It's one of those things where it would look better as a whole army, rather than individually.

Thanks for the feedback. It's tough to get into that guys belly now but I'll add some red washes to bring the tint up.

I'm going to leave the highlights thick for now because these aren't meant to be display quality models, just something for warhammer quest.

I don't mind the thick highlights, personally. In the future I'll work on thinner highlights (where appropriate).

I'm painting the rest of the Warhammer Quest box - should I do Kairic Acolyes or Bloodreavers next?

The thing about orks is they don't have to think to survive.
They're not necessarily stupid, but if you can solve a problem with brute force that is what they'll do.

Grots don't have the capabilities for brute force solutions usually, especially in Ork society.
So they have to rely on their wits.
They may be more intelligent on average, but it's not enough to be really directly noticeable I think.

Anyway isn't that more of a question for the 40k general?

Any resources spent on this 'competitive boardgame' will not be spent on updating existing armies or old ones.

It's one thing for GW to release an occasional boardgame every now and then, but they said their plans for this game are unique sculpts and to fully support it for a long time.

Here is the new wording:

Rage of Khorne: This ability affects all KHORNE units in your army within 18" of this model at the start of the combat phase. When they attack, add 1 to the Attacks characteristic of all melee weapons used by units affected by the Rage of Khorne. In addition, players do not have to take battleshock tests for any KHORNE units within 18" of this model.

If they didn't want it to stack they could have worded it something like "add 1 to the Attacks characteristic of all melee weapons used by units affected by any number of Rage of Khorne effects".

The way it's worded suggests that each Bloodsecrator applies a seperate instance of the Rage of Khorne ability, similar to how multiple Lord-Castellants using their lantern on the same model can make it heal multiple times per 7+ save roll.

I think in the new GHB we'll see a new Rule of One that puts an end to stacking buffs.

Considering there is a specialist game department that makes these, if they are not making these boardgames they aren't making anything at all.
As for the models themselves, having a regular flow of boardgames doesn't actually effect their workflow. Most large releases like new armies are done up to 2 years before they are ever actually released.
Also, since the specialist game department are staffed by forgeworld, I wouldn't be surprised if they use forgeworld sculptors from time to time as well.

Yeah I can see someone creatively building their own campaign for it. Even if you used your own tiles and stuff. It does come with a campaign and story, that's what the adventure book is, but you can throw that out if you're feeling creative. But I think Shadows over Hammerhal is more designed for that.

Silver Tower is randomly generated so can be played until you all grow bored of it.

Shadows Over Hammerhal does have a set dungeon and quest but you can change the monsters around and it's a piece of piss to write your own campaigns.

You could also do what I do and just nick all the campaigns from the older editions of WQ and HeroQuest and just change the stats so they fit in the new game. Your imagination is the limit.

If you aren't playing competetive AoS then gruntas are fine. If you wanna practice for tourneys or you play in a super meta area, then gruntas are bad. As for choice of big boss. I do a 10 man squad of brutes that that brute boss is promoted to big boss every time.

In the 10/5/5/3 ironjaw comp, the grunta boss is good, assuming you don't charge ahead with the squad as a heat seaking missle. You need to make sure you get atleast 2 turns with him to get your brutes and ardboyz in

Look at the wildstalker brayherd battalion, and make that your goal. Luckily for you, most of the brayherd kits are older, so they tend to be on the cheap end for GW model kits.

Brayherds right now are difficult to play effectively and competitively, without bringing other things from other factions in to fill their gaps. You have to have a lot of redundancies in your list, and ungors and gors need to be in big units because battleshock is one of your biggest enemies. Hero and unit synergy and buffing is something you have to look out for.

So they are not very good right now, but the meta changes all the time, and if you love the look and aesthetic of them, your efforts will not be wasted.

If you want to play just vampires, you can choose Soulblight Allegiance and get Blood knights as your battleline, but you're right your choice would be limited if you did that. You can instead choose Death Allegience and choose from any of the Death subfactions.

Same deal with any of the other Grand Alliances, but you'll find that there are some order Factions that have newer battletomes and so get better abilities if they just choose from their subfaction.

They're all big factions.

Grand Alliances can all go together.

Order, Death, Destruction or Chaos.

You can get allegiance bonuses and better Battleline units (troop choices) if you stick to a particular sub faction.

So say you want a pure vampire army.

You can have Coven Throne, Vampire Lord or Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon as your Leader choices, Blood Knights as troops, and Bat Swarms, Fell Bats and Vargheists as other units.

Orruk armies are Ironjawz (new huge orcs and old heavily armoured black orcs), Greenskinz (everything else) and Bonesplitters (Feral Orcs)

Goblins are now Grots, and are split into Gitmob Grots (regular), Moonclan Grots (Night Goblins) and Spiderfang Grots.

Personally I try not to mix 2 kinds of true metallic metal colors. Either go full bronze, silver OR gold. I know some people get it right, but I don't and I think especially your sword looks weird. Also maybe give the thin skin on the wings a wash in a different color. Maybe pruple or green? As a whole the model looks a little dull. Other than that it's fine. Right know I don't give my models highlights after the wash either, because for the table it's good enough and I just want to get as many done as possible.

Aside from that, it needs a little bit more contrast, but highlight will help with that. What might be a good idea is to add some yellow or purple washes to extremities, like the hands feet, or whatever. A bit like GW did on their Kairic acolytes. I would also suggest a more contrasting colour on the wings. I do like the head you've used.

But do your highlights and metals first, and then we can see how the end result looks and see if you need to add things from there.

Sword was originally all Bronze and I didn't like it, I prefer it the way it is but each to their own. Metal has some Typhus Corrosion over it in places which may be adding to the weird

Carroburg works well since red is complementary to green. It might look a tad bit pinkish. Cassandra, I wouldn't know but since I use sepia as my 'yellow' wash. But since yellow is a component colour of green it would probably look good. I would start with some of it on the hands and feet and then slowly expand. Check the vid by Duncan for Horrors, he demonstrates how to blend colours like that.

Afaik, yes. every realm has mortal inhabitants. Nagash was found by Sigmar at some point in the Age of Myth, and settlements and civilizations were already all over the place, I guess you could think of it as Slyvania - it sucks to live there but people do. This time though, they actually worship the lords/gods of death/Nagash, so some are actually happy to be there.

Yes, since the buffs make them able to bury enemies with the sheer volume f attacks, and they can keep replenishing their numbers bit by bit every turn.

Where they fall short a little is that they aren't very mobile for the most part, so you may need a few Black Knights for objectives.

Ironclad can hold up to 20 models without penalty.
Frigate can hold up to 10 models without penalty.

If you go over the limit, you get penalties. Some models do not take up slots (such as flying dudes)

If you give Skyriggers a skyhook, if you shoot an enemy with it, you actually zip towards than enemy.

Ships skyhooks are the same, except apparently "slower", so I guess they don't move the full distance.

Ironclad can heal a wound (presumably every turn). Endrinmaster lets you repair up to 3 wounds, even if they are boarded.
Apparently there are artefacts and formations that can let you do more as well.

No picture of Endrinmaster warscroll, because I was to slow and missed it like an idiot.
