>>
>>52667272
Current templating rules seem to be for creatures to just have keywords rather than giving themselves keywords (except for slivers), and for those keywords to be listed at the top of the rules text.

I personally agree that it would have been better to go with your templating, but I can kinda see why WotC would want to have consistency.

I wouldn't dare. Whatever crap I come up with would be better than the official storyline. They could ask second graders to write the storyline and it'd come out better than what they've got. No, I'm just stating what they're blatantly already doing.

Only if your play group are tryhard faggots.

>>52667430
My best guess is that they want you to flash it in and use the tap ability. No way to have a instant speed tapper without flash and haste.

I do think the card is a bit mess. Feels weirdly too pushed. Either the character is very important for ongoing storylines or RGW really really needed some help in the FFL.

Boy the irony of you complaining about SJW shit is plapable.

Besides, it's not like being a Planeswalker is some great honor. All the worst characters in MTG are Planeswalkers introduced post Time Spiral. Much better to be a legendary creature, a card type with a long and venerable history.

>>52667434
Your post really seems to hint at the fact that you don't find ccg strategy stimulating, which is weird because there's actually a lot to offer. Obviously limited means you don't get exactly the cards you want, but that enables it to be freshly engaging each draft. EDH is hardly the most combo oriented format and if you keep getting beaten by combo I suppose you just don't have the right mental faculties for deckbuilding.

Not every format is for everyone, but if you can't find a single one that speaks to you maybe look at other games like board games.

Kinda? A friend of mine paid my entry to the pre-release even though i haven't played in 6 years, so i figured i should look up the cards. Yesterday and today are the first days I've looked at this set.
>>
>>52667613
I say stuff like that mostly as absurd hyperbole to highlight the fact that there really is no best format. There's a time and place for each of them, but there's no no useful discussion that can be generated by arguing over which is best.

Personally i play Modern, Commander and Pauper the most. I'm also trying to get better at draft, but I have a harder time wrapping my head around it and only ever go 2- 1 at best.

Seeing that the effect for Oblitorators is "Whenever a source deals damage to Phyrexian Obliterator, that source's controller sacrifices that many permanents" an obliterator can "kill" a walker. However, since this is in a story and not actually playing against another person with a Bolas card, the writers would probably hand wave the effect away because "muh walkers". Planeswalker cards were a mistake and a cash grab

>>
>>52667727
>>52667920

Obliterators are, ostensibly, more powerful than Negators by being obviously the same thing with a bigger and nastier ability. I don't recall them being story-significant.

Old Planeswalkers, even presuming you can dispense with their comically-overpowered access to almost unlimtied mana and entire worlds of spells, are still extremely tough. Even without spells, it takes extreme force and usuual magic to be able to harm one ,and it is even more difficult to ensure they are dead. They are not immortal, but for the purposes of any normal creature, might as well be.

Negators were crafted for the express purpose of killing Planeswalkers by arguably the most powerful entity ever to exist (depending on TRUFORM Ulamog stuff), whose entire speciality was crafting extraordinary beings, and who was renowned for breaking what were thought rules of the multiverse, using the resources of an entirely extraordinarily-powered plane under his total control. And despite this, they were still merely okay at their job. A novice Planeswalker would be in deep shit, but a truly potent Planeswalker a la Invasion-era Urza would be almost beyond approach.

New Planeswalkers are, in comparison, comically feeble. They are mere mortals, no tougher than usual, and whose only edge is having an expanded range of magic compared to regular wizards. Even Nicol Bolas, vastly more powerful than the rest and with access to a great deal of Old Planeswalker knowledge and magic, is orders of magnitude weaker than an Old Planeswalker. A Negator could easily do the job.

This would require there be negators. Obliterators are implied to be more powerful by their card, which is little evidence. Maybe they are just better at killing lots and lots of things at once. It's safe to presume they are less effective and less specialised at killing Old Planeswalkers than Negators, since they were made by beings vastly weaker than Yawgmoth. Still, the New Planeswalkers are glorified mages.
>>
>>52668144
>>52668147
>implying the gatewatch knows shit that happened thousand of years ago
>>
>>52668156

So it's difficult to tell.

But of course the New Planeswalkers have the protection of WotC Marketing, a force more powerful than any Old Planeswalker, hobbled as those were by participating in actual narratives driven by story, not by wanky marketing.

Because why would stories matter in a story-driven game.

I would imagine that it was less that Negators were powerful enough, and more that it's what they were designed to do, like specifically a "Fuck anything with a spark" type of creation but possibly lacking elsewhere or costly to use, hence their "sack your stuff" effect.
Like they can fuck a planeswalker practically being planeswalker antibodies, but against non-walkers, they're just really tough creatures.

Logically Obliterators are less specialized, but aren't as costly to use, thus easily deployed slaughter machines.

The second set they use the red, white, and green moons, powered by the blue and black ones to cast artifact destruction on Mirrodin and save the multiverse from Phyrexia.

Then make comments along the lines of "Huh, that was easy. Hey, who wants to go see how Tarkir is doing?" and leave.

Is it just me, or are the Gatewatch worse than the weatherlight crew? I mean, I liked the weatherlight crew back in the day, but I really am sick to death of the Gatewatch. I'm surprised they had to be told this instead of knowing "Hey maybe having the same 5 people do the same thing forever would be bad"

The worst part is maro only said they'd be less prevalent in cards, we might still have to deal with the origins 5 doing everything (because it's not even the jacetice league anymore, it's literally just the origins 5 since ajani fucked off)

>>
>>52669431
I think it's because of how many cards they get. The Weatherlight Crew all had one card each, maybe two to depict a major change (Like Ertai being corrupted. Also not counting the alternate reality color shifted versions)

I think overall the stories are fine, but the characters need to change a bit. Chandra still talks/thinks like a spastic teenager despite having been involved with stopping multiple interplanar threats and being part of a revolution on her home plane. At some point all this needs to actually affect her in some way. Preferably have her mature a bit but even after torching Ulamog and Koz she couldn't walk. Why not give her a limp or something from now on. She just had an entire plane's mana channeled into her which she used to cast the biggest fireball of all time, stress like that should show.

From her flavour text and her warrior type, we can guess she was trained for the trials before... well dissenting. So she has fighting abilities: double strike. She is also a voice for the dissenters, hence giving haste to others.
Her untap ability, made to work with exert, represent her reaching people that gave themselves totally (exert) to the trials and pull them out of it.
Vigilance is only there for gameplay reason, so her untap ability get used eventually, though it could represent being always vigilant as a fugitive I guess.
And why Flash? Well because fuck you that why.

Yeah, I had it backwards. In Timaeus, the Greek Solon visited Egypt and brought back the story, which includes Atlantis attempting to take over the world and being repelled by a force led by Athens, which force was dragged beneath the earth at the same time as the island.

Oh, the other dumb thing about Atlantis in Magic is that Argoth already was Atlantis -- get a new damn story.

Their application of social justice is absolutely one sided. Its been going on for long enough people are noticing the pattern and are reasonably upset that there is so much focus on it, when that focus is obviously having an adverse effect on the actual game development.

But hey, at least evil empires are being beaten by plucky underdogs left and right right? We need a block where the "bad guy" realizes the Gatewatch are overstepping their bounds and shit slaps them back to Dominaria. Hopefully someone in the Gatewatch dies soon, those fuckers are on a warpath with no repercussions coming back to them.

Just get Sigarda and do a voltron with her. All you have to do is just slap indestructible on her and you can put people on a clock.

Samut will just be chumped all day, no evasion. She's a shit voltron commander. She's a bad Exert commander too. It's honestly easier to just put Vigilance on your creatures and use untappers. Or just all in with Aurelia. She's just one of those ability soup cards that are good in standard, but shit everywhere else.

Her art is shit too, no conveyance of motion or speed. Double Strike, Flash AND haste? That bitch needs to be displaying serious velocity, and all she's doing is striking a very awkward pose. Also she's an ugly nigger.

Even better would be inner conflinct in the Gatewatch.

A couple of hotheads drop to some plane and start their new 'dissent'. And kind of go overboard or maybe the target was wrong, or maybe it was a set-up. Anyway later other guys from Gatewatch come, facepalm, and try to set things straight.

Epic battle of Gatewatch vs. Gatewatch.

All the contrary.
2015 was a record-setting sales year.
2016 was all downwards.
Speculation indicates 2015 sold so well because stores prebought like crazy in expectation of the enemy fetchlands.

So pretty much, they lied to their business partners and have burnt the public out with SJW bullshit. People don't want politics in their hobbies and tumblr likes do not translate to money. On top of that rumor has it Cocks doesn't like MaRo or Stoddard and have a stern dictate for R&D to improve the game's playability and expectator interest or get going.

The pendulum has swung.

Yeah there have been sorta covert messages sent for a few months now. Some from WotC people, some from "pros" like LSV. There is a big disconnect between what the consumer wants out of the game and what the SJW within WotC want to push. Sadly, the nature of the game means we wont see any real change for a year at least. This also sheds light onto the timing, they probably jumped in head deep into the SJW angle when it was in full swing, but the product doesn't come out until the fad has expended its use. By the time it was showing up in the tcg scene it was already an albatross. They bandwagoned onto something they thought was gonna be a huge cultural shift, too idiotic to realize it happens every so often and is summarily slapped down each time.

I would feel bad for them (wotc) except they are fence sitting while knowing they are in the wrong. They know why the game is down now and they won't admit it was them and their push, not the consumer, that fucked up a relatively good thing.

My hope is that when it does swing back noticably, all the fags playing to virtue signal instead of play fun games will be gone, moving onto the next shitty area SJW diseases can fester. It will leave us to our own devices in our "nerd hobby" again. It will be a second renaissance.

The company can never admit wrongdoing unless the circumstances are extremely dire. Admitting you done goofed opens you up to a whole world of shit from just about every angle imaginable.

MTG's product cycle being so fucking long is more likely a product of their logistics. With each set they print half a billion or more cards. I'd be curious to know how long one 'print run' lasts and what their target numbers are, actually.

They're a big fucking company now too so there's an assload of internal bureaucracy involved in everything. Approvals need approving and those approvers need approval of their own.

I don't see them getting their cycles under a year unless they get out from under Hasbro and become self-owned.

That aside, their business decisions are a great example of the twitter effect - a relatively small portion of people in the grand scheme of things that make it seem like whatever opinion they hold is much more widespread that it actually is. It can also occur when you get fresh-from-college employees who have some liberal and progress ideas, perhaps from the aforementioned twitter, but lack the experience and framing to weed out a yappy few from overall trends.

I guess there's also some blame to lay with management who are probably wanting to appear progressive for the sake of appearing progressive.

My biggest grievance is how the player no longer has any agency in terms of the game's story.

You don't have to admit to anything. Just take actions that show you are committed to fixing the problem you made. They are 15% doing this and 85% trying not to step on any toes while doing it, or ignoring that other 15%.

I don't want a video of them groveling begging forgiveness like some jap, I just want them to take concrete actions to show they were in the wrong, that is all I can expect out of a company.

Killing Nissa and bringing Garruk back in a phenomenal way would go wonders to fixing the relations between players and them. Killing off Garruk as a PR stunt was the thing that made me start hating them. Its the point where the product hit a noticeable "the game is different now" vibe. And in no positive way mind you.

You are an idiot, a reactionary idiot mad that someone doesn't like something because the changes they make don't make sense. Make tony's drunken rages softer - good change for a pg-13 movie. Make the canonically white characters black - has no bearing on the rating, only virtue signalling.

Eat a dick for trying to conflate the issue you base born scum.

ms. we wuz is good enough for me to overlook her being a dindu rebel

i'm mostly just disappointed because last wednesday it looked like they would (maybe) do something uncharacteristic and have moral ambiguity in the story, but nope, gideon dumped his waifu and the gods are all evil dicks
>>
>>52673553
Fucking of course. The problem with Wizards' storytelling is they just can't stop themselves from making every last thing explicit. It wouldn't be any better if they were nerdsplaining something other than romantic relationships, they just need to shut up one in a while.

> ANY AND ALL CARDS THAT WOTC CHOOSES TO PROMOTE EITHER THEMATICALLY OR POWER WISE WILL HAVE BLACKS ON THEM, PREFERABLY FEMALE BLACKS.

Wrong. Just objectively wrong. The cards that are getting the most power-push are dragons, zombies, sphinxes, a ram-man, a naga, a tanned white Egyptian, and fucking GOLDEN GODS. You'll ignore this, because you're just shitposting.
>>
>>52673592
Shit, someone that knows what they're talking about. MY ONLY WEAKNESS! NOOOOooooooo *disappears from existence*
>>

They had to ban Reflector Mage. Trophy mage is seeing modern play. Containment priest was an EDH card made into the legacy meta. Those are real power cards. Not timmy cards you idiot. Come back when you understand what a real pushed card is.

New cards they want people to play in actual decks that already exist are always black women. But yeah give me more versions of undercosted mythics to try and make it seem even across the board.
>>
>>52673731
>Those are real power cards. Not timmy cards you idiot.
>Cards aren't powerful unless they're control cards
top kek, control babs are such cancer
>>
Why are you guys still so hung up over skin color?
Why not bitch about things that matter, like how humans are in fucking everything and are always the main characters.

>Set ostensibly about Bolas in a plane that can draw from a rich and varied pantheon
>Said pantheon takes a back seat to random humans
>Again

Go take any aggro deck thru a legacy 8 man. Tell me how good it felt to stick one creature for 1 turn before scooping. All other forms of constructed magic are a joke.

>not taking removal spell after removal spell in draft
Proper control is proper magic. I'll beat you to death with my 6 mana 2/2 flyer if I have to. You won't have a board to stop me.

Wait, are you talking about the same commander-bait 5-CMC card we are?
A 6/4 keyword soup for 5 mana isn't really pushed these days.
Funny enough, it can't even activate the green god without spending mana

Oh anon, you are so deluded and/or out of touch with Magic from the past several years.

Trophy mage is 3cmc gets a 3cmc artifact.
Reflector mage is a 3cmc that ruins games
Containment priest is a 2cmc stop cards entering battlefield unless it was from hand

I don't even know what 5cmc card you are talking about.

>>52673864
Thats why the most anticipated card of the last few years was a 1 mana removal spell right?

You know what? WotC should just go fucking balls deep with this SJW shit. Take all the shit the hamplanets cry for and crank it up to 11 and cover it in male gaze and whatever the fuck. Having fucking black-fur werewolves les the fuck out in the cards. You fucking two these two dykewolves, they transform into some thick-ass furbaits, then 'combine' into a megawolf powered by carpet munching. Or fuck it, let's give them big knotted cocks to go with their tits to appeal to about ten other subgroups.
They've got double strike if you get my drift.

You're literally saying making a fantasy setting based on Inuit culture and having them look like Apache is right.

The OP image.
The thing that started this entire conversation in the first place
You seem to be comparing it to those other cards.
>>
>>52673895
>Thats why the most anticipated card of the last few years was a 1 mana removal spell right?
Yes, exactly. I can't tell if you're missing my point of not.
Removal has been complete shit for a long while now. Even aggro isn't very good a few weeks after a new set and the meta settles. It's all just fucking mid-range : planeswalker edition.
>>
>>52673935
Pushed powerwise or thematically. Thematically being the key here. The new legend they want to show off to promote their new set is ta da!

a black woman rebelling, again. And if you don't think a 3/4 with double strike, vigilance, AND haste isn't pushed at 5 mana you are an idiot. Is it gods gift in card form, no. But it is pushed and it will see play.

People were claiming Ishkana was pushed because she made three (3!) tokens. Her ass is busted compared to this thing.
>>
>>52673822
Because nigras and their pet SJWs are shoving their clits everywhere and that's sexual assault.
>>
>>52670994
No one expects her?
>>
>>52673972
exactly my point man, people WANT those control cards. WotC has gone on record saying things like bolt are too strong (for standard), they purposely have to gimp an entire card type just to promote the other (creatures).

That itself is a microcosm of the macro problem being discussed in the thread. Instead of just promoting 1 type of thing to bring parity to both types, they openly bash one in favor of the other, then claim their footing is equal. Yeah when you destroy all the competition it appears equal. Just don't look into how it got that way.

I think we are both missing each other's points. We both obviously have problems with the game right now. You take umbrage that the mechanics aren't as good as they used to be, or the interplay of those mechanics.

I have moved 1 step further and said those things are true, but cite the over reaching goal of diversity as the problem. They are focusing so much of the mental energy on it that the game proper is suffering.
>>
>>52673975
Technically the niggress will die to the spider and the tokens live on.
I also don't think it'll see play so long as the saheeli combo exists. Sure you can flash it in End of Turn, but at four toughness it's easy to Harnessed Lightning and/or counterspell. Then they all run enough creatures they can chump block easily.
>>
>>52674058
Doesn't that 3cmc elephant thing completely stop the combo. I know the combo will try to remove the creature but I'm pretty sure its text is tantamount to "stop the copy cat combo"

Also, your argument comes down to: She would be good if not for this very common removal people play. She dodges Fatal Push at least.

>>52666883

Why couldn't they have done something like this for whoever Scrapper Champion is? Give this character a name, a slew of keywords and say she has a Spark that hasn't awoken yet. Her design is just so boring: all we have is 'She's mad'.

Also, are we to expect Shard walkers in Hour of Destruction? She's probably going to be Naya and Nicky B is Grixis.
>>
>>52674101
The beast is only 2 toughness. Look at it this way - white already has a 1cmc enchantment that stops the combo and Saheeli is still the most successful deck when Mardu is the second most successful. You think a 3cmc creature is going to be help any?

The problem is you have to anticipate the saheeli deck going off on every turn starting with t4. You have to have answers in hand and mana untapped. They get to dictate the pace of the game.
>>
>>52674132
because even as small card art you can tell Scrapper Champion is a beautiful woman. We got Kari Zev instead. Look at any art of her and try to tell me some tumblrina at WotC didn't see her and told the art direction to make her more homely.

>>52674164
Yeah I know. Its like WotC actively didn't listen to people when they said they didn't like the play of the Splinter Twin deck. I think they thought spreading the same combo out over 3 colors would make it weaker somehow. Them STILL having that whole combo PLUS the new copycat in the MTGO cube is enough for me to know they don't understand the game any more.
>>
>>52674207
It's not that they spread it out, they straight up missed it. That's worrying when you consider they were printing a card that let permanents, not just creatures, be flickered. It's not like one guy missed it, either, it went on for a very, very long time.
How no one connected "Permanent" to "Planeswalker" is beyond me.
>>
>>52674132
Because she's not black.
She is pretty.
And she isn't raging.

At least I'll have the satisfaction of destroying the hysterical beastwoman everytime I see her across the table.
>>
>>52674241
I personally don't buy the "we missed it" angle they are going with. How can you fucking miss it, they are in the same fucking set. People reading the spoiler saw it instantly. They are just trying to save face because they wanted it and no one else did. They knew what they were doing but didn't know how retarded it was. Or did and put 1 half of the combo at mythic as a planeswalker so no one would realistically ask them to ban it, or expect them to.

WotC likes their combos to be 2 cards, idiot proof
Players like their combos like rube goldberg machines, like eggs (but not as extreme as eggs).

There are too many factors at play for them to out and out miss the fucking combo. And if they honest to God missed it in development, then I'm at a loss. Nothing about it seems unintuitive enough to misread over and over or never see the 2 cards together.

I call bunk on them.
>>
when is the full set list coming out?
>>
>>52674325
especially since Twin was a deck everyone saw so much of, and this was functionally slow twin.

the missing it is the worst possible truth, because it means that R&D and the entire testing crew are now incompetent/full of idiots because of nepotism.

I've heard a few stories about how poorly and old-fashioned WoTC is run, and current design lets you see in the cracks.

we are about to see another "mistake" with Zombies, they have TOO MANY cards.

just a peliminary list such as this one lets you have effective lethal so fast its insane.

4 Dread Wanderer
4 Cryptbreaker
4 Wayward Servant
4 Relentless dead
4 Plague Belcher
3 Diregraf Colossus
3 Lord of the Accursed
2 Liliana, Death's Majesty
2 Hidden Stockpile
3 Bontu the Glorified
4 Anguished Unmaking
4 Shambling Vent
4 Concealed Courtyard
3 Plains
10 Swamp
2 Westvale Abbey

Control decks and players are a necessary evil in Magic. If they don't exist what will be happen is that the meta will eventually narrow down the best Agro and/or best Combo deck and the meta will just become those one or two decks.

Kinda like what's happening right now in Standard.
>>
>>52674855
Having multiple play styles is fine, it's just that 99% of the time the retards on /tg/ think that if a single creature is viable the entire game is "Magic: The tappening" (which is the main way you're supposed to play the game, by the way).
>>
>>52674855

>Control decks and players are a necessary evil in Magic.

I actually play multiple decks in multiple formats and I fully agree with it. I even play mono U delver in pauper. But the problem isn't with control archetype itself. The problem usually are the players who pick U decks. For some reason you can expect 60-70% of them to be the most obnoxious tards you have seen in your life.

I'm literally not. This bitch is from the exact same social strata that a Central African shipped down the river as an indentured servant (or a descendant thereof) would be from in the ancient Egyptian empire. There's plenty of olive-skinned Egyptians in this set, too. See >>52673592
