They balance the best of what the other four castes have, plus have an innate skill at leadership and organisation that lets them govern and rule effectively.

Then again, an Ethereal-caste fighting directly with their blade in battle must be an exceptionally rare case, considering how freaking important they are to the point where even the death of one is considered a very grave loss.

This unintentionally proves that fluff about Eldar agility and strength compared humans to be false since we know Tau are weaker on average than humans and poor depth perception.

Ethereals aren't normal Tau, though. They frequently fight rituals dues with their blade-staffs where they swing their weapons faster than eye can follow in perfectly coordinated patterns.

People always assume all ethereals are feeble old men because of Aun'va (who is several hundred years old), but they're actually Tau ubermench; stronger, faster, smarter, and generally all around better than regular Tau.
