It's trash, anon
>>
>>52659724
Well no shit it doesn't trigger off of planeswalkers - it'd basically say 'opponents can't play planeswalkers, each opponent sacrifices each planeswalker they control'
Because it does stop planeswalkers. You can redirect that damage to them when they activate something else.
>>
>>52659886
>when they activate something else.
Sure, like what?
>>
>>52659914
Standard? Vehicles, manlands, Walking Ballista, clues, Dyanvolt Tower and anything else that wants you to pay energy.
Modern? Fetches and manlands are big ones, ghost quarter, Affinity has Ravager/Overseer/Cranial/Jar, there's scooze, Mishra's Bauble, Spellskite, Fulminator Mage...fuckloads of shit

Card is getting overhyped. It's good, but it's not eidolon of the great revel.

It's a hate-bear. It's not goyf/snap cycle's red card- all of those cards are powerful in that they reward deckbuilding / play order. This card slaps your opponent for playing particular card types, but is literally grizzly bear vs. decks it doesn't effect- your opponent doesn't need to necessarily play around it or use sideboard hate to weaken it- they can simply sit down with a 75 of mono green stompy and have no cards that trigger this guy.
>>
>>52658862
Odd flavoring

>punishes people for using gods
>>
>>52659724
>dies to any relevant removal in modern

You're right, that's also why Eidolon is so bad and nobody plays it
>>
>>52660642
Fetchlands are 3 damage with him...
Kill kiki-jiki combos, melira combos, etc...
Divining top = shock every turn
Can stop lantern control...
Can redirect fetch damage to PW
Deathrite shaman = GG
Etc...
>>
>>52660702
YEAH BECAUSE THIS CARD TOTALLY DOES 2 DAMAGE ON ITS WAY OUT THE DOOR LIKE EIDOLON DOES
>>

No one was saying it was the exact same thing. Just pointing out how stupid your "Dies to Doom Blade" argument is, like it always is.
>>
>>52660837
Worst case scenarios
>Play eidolon
>your opponent removes it promptly and takes 2 damage
>Play this
>your opponent removes it promptly and takes 0 damage
One dies to removal and does something, the other is 2 mana wasted.
I don't think the card is terrible, but the 'dies to removal' argument is perfectly sound.

It says menace replaced intimidate as a keyword; does that mean cards with intimidate as treated as having menace instead?

No.
It means that, instead of printing cards with intimidate, they're printing cards with menace. The cards printed with Intimidate still have it - they just aren't printing any more.

Less randomly hose people for playing colors because you now have an unblockable, more actively fuck their shit up because fuck their color.

Is Amonkhet the most boring set in recent MTG history?

The only cards that seem interesting in any format outside of standard are:

>Harsh Mentor
>"Bicycle lands"
>As Fortold
>Vizier of the Menagerie

Even out of those, they all seem to be EDH fodder, with the exception of Mentor and the lands which may see sideboard/fringe modern play. Fuck this set

I disagree. Haste is what makes Guide and Sportswear so good. The wither effect of this guy is pretty pointless when your burn spells should be aiming at your opponent and not a creature. In burn, if a creature doesn't have haste, doesn't do damage to the face, and doesn't draw into more burn, it's not running. There's a reason the standard modern burn creature suite is 4 Guide, 4 Sportswear, 4 Eidolon, and occasionally a Lavamancer or Revealer.

Docent doesn't protect itself. The Sphinx eats four entire removal spells, and your opponent has to play then two-and-two, and the second time it's also uncounterable.

Docent is far, far, far worse.

Docent can take over the board and bring 12/9 worth of flyers if left unanswered for a single turn and it still didn't see play when every deck played mostly 3 damage removal to counter copter

Even if that sphinx is much, much harder to remove it won't see play because it doesn't impact the board nearly enough

That doesn't matter when it's so easy to answer and doesn't do anything the turn you play it while also being much slower than Copter. It's not a very good card.
>>
>>52664279
Because otherwise he would still be able to lose loyalty counters. This is how every other Gideon works. The people talking about wither are retarded.
>>
>>52664325
I know the 5/5 gideon is a big deal not taking damage because grasp is -4/-4 so you cant block him then grasp.
>>
>>52664479
Even without the prevent damage clause that wouldn't work. Gideon would just be an indestructible 1/1 with whatever amount of damage marked. It still wouldn't die.

Yeah, any Planeswalker permanent loses loyalty counters when dealt damage. It's why Sarkhan Dragonspeaker loses the Planeswalker type and has reminder text for his transformation.
>>
>>52664437
My point was that back then most of the removal couldn't kill Docent yet he saw absolutely 0 play even when he traded up against the most played card of the whole format

A hard to remove 5/3 sphinx would have been worst back then and is barely better now, it won't see play.

I don't think you understand what that phrase means.

You are also misevaluating this card. It is not comparable to Docent in the slightest in spite of their similar bodies. Docent never saw play because it lined up poorly against common removal, couldn't be counted on to generate any sort of board advantage because of this, and could never attack into Avacyn mana. Sphinx suffers from only one of these problems, which is even mitigated by it being inherently recursive. If Sphinx doesn't see play, it will be because all of the control decks are Dynavolt Tower variants, not because it's anywhere near as bad as Docent. (It isn't.)

Can't kill vehicles. Can't be used reactively, meaning you may be forced to spend your fourth turn killing their three-drop Gideon instead of casting your 4-drop. It just isn't as flexible in general.
>>
>>52664694
Sorcery speed keeps you from removing the planeswalker in the same turn they entered the battlefield
It also force you to waste 3 mana during your turn if you want to use that removal (keep in mind that during your turn, you can also attack the PW with your creatures)

gee it's almost like they're just cards, not directly linked. And if you're going to say how pump links the green and haste links the red, then I'll note how lifelink and drain/gain are practically the same subject and how -1/-1 counters can kill your creatures to activate the black god.

So literally just it's not as efficient as a instant? Because if I'd played a 3 drop in turn 3 and they played their Gideon in theirs, I'm sat there with my dick in my hand anyway.
>>
>>52664680
The only common removal it died to is grasp of darkness and reflector mage. As for attacking into Avacyn it wasn't an issue once you flipped it
If your opponent didn't have either of these and you dropped a Docent the game was over in the next turn or so especially since it turned off their copters as well but because Docent costs 5 mana and doesn't impact the board

That new sphinx just sits there waiting to trade into a 2 drop and can never generate any of board advantage no matter what
>>
>>52664743
The creative team are bad. Horrendous even. But they write crap like
>The lacerators cut themselves before each hunt. They must feed before the sun rises or bleed to death.
They overexplain their setting because they fear people wouldn't get it otherwise. They don't write incoherent nonsense like
>Out of the desert came suns of gold, and the Maw of Sands leapt to devour
>>
>>52664750
Essentially yes. There's also the matter that instants have myriad more applications in the later stages of the game. There's hosts of abilities that people would use for various circumstances, such as granting a creature with hexproof or indestructible effects, which an instant-speed spell can respond to and neutralize before it actually takes hold, diminishing your opponent's resources as you get the same kill you would have gotten anyway.
>>
>>52664791
>They don't write incoherent nonsense like
>>Out of the desert came suns of gold, and the Maw of Sands leapt to devour
They do, but as a citation of something in-world, like a book or a legend
We have flavor texts that are part of the Amonkhet religious text "The Accounting of the Hours" in this set
>>
>>52664805
Even then they wouldn't end the sentence so abruptly. They'd feel helplessly compelled to tell us about what he devoured and how tasty it was to him.
>>
>>52664861
>Ancient Grudge is the perfect example for all flavor texts
No.

>"Out of the desert came suns of gold, and the Maw of Sands leapt to devour." - The Book of the Unveiling
Is something that could be written on an actual MtG card.
We have examples of this in that very same set, like I said earlier

There's a new, confirmed difference now that we have a second series of gods with a similar theme as the previous.
Gods are, essentially, indestructible avatars with low cost but they cannot join battle unless conditions are met. For Theros the condition was always devotion, but now we have gods with customized laws to follow.

I've seen some Living End lists play GRWU instead of Jund, since Ardent Plea is easier to cast than Demonic Dread (cause you don't need your opponent to control a creature) and you don't need black for Street Wraith.
I'm not saying that it's suddenly gonna become the top deck, but there's already some incentive for Living End to run an extra colour.

Incorrect. It'll preorder at about double what it'll end up costing because it's going to be a sideboard card at best in standard and most other formats. Granted, it's very good against combo and artifact-heavy decks, but it's probably not more than a two-of in the main deck if it gets there.

New Terese Neilson is cool, but ruined by its odd perspective
I'm not even gonna mention the Amonkhet art

The Judge Promo art shows the actual details of the spell the best (a sudden unstoppable bubble of protection sustained by sheer force of will). Plus, there's such a perfect expression of calm on the wizard's face, like she's stoping the spell as if it were nothing. Which fits perfectly, considering what the card does.

I don't play commander but can't you only use cards of the color in the mana cost of your commander?

So if you use her you can only have red/green cards and lands.

I mean sure you can use stuff to generate white mana but it seems pointless to have the card be just r/g.
>>
>>52666937
Having double strike is essentially evasion.
>>

>>52666948
I have no complain about it being synergistic with exert
It's just that having both flash and haste put you in an awkward situation where you feel like wasting its haste abilities if you play it during your opponent's turn and you feel like wasting flash playing it on your turn

And it's a clusterfuck of a card regardless
>>
>>52666971
>I don't play commander but can't you only use cards of the color in the mana cost of your commander?

No, Commander's concept of "colour identity" checks every mana symbol on the card, no matter where it's located. Mana symbols in text box are a part of it.

I don't remember if mana symbols in italicized text (rules examples) count anymore, I think they did at one point and that was stupid.
>>
>>52667029
I think the idea is that you can play it on your opponents turn, untap a creature, and then double block with her and the creature.

If it's real.

I hope it's not real.
>>
>>52666948

If exert was the only reason, the cost wouldn't be white. The cost of the ability is only white to make her Naya instead of Boros.
>>

>>
>>52666803
But you don't mainboard these type soft wrath's, you sideboard them like anger vs match ups you're guaranteed to run into a muddled board like against affinity, zoo, dredge, fish, etc, and the exile clause does matter for a lot of cases, sometimes fringe sometimes like the obvious (dredge), and lastly the cycle is like 3, if it was 2 or less I could imagine it being potentially able to replace anger but for the most part it's too expensive to justify cycling it, and thus not really a replacement in those decks for anger sideboard.

Even if they did listen it wouldn't matter, because they do their sets more than a year in advance. That means that the sets two blocks from now have been already set in stone. They have no ability to react to feedback in a timely manner, even if they wanted to. They've tied their own hands with their retarded time table.
>>

>implying reddit isn't probably fawning over this card right now because it's a badass woman and strong creature
Oh man, I forgot about WotC and their SJW agenda, we can't get attractive looking women who are not angels anymore and the story/settings have to suffer because they have ratios to meet

Like seriously, who the fuck looks at this creature's art and think it's a cool character? Same for Rashmi, bring back original designs
>>
>>52667176
>I know right? Reddit was gushing over the embalm sphinx. Prognostic sphinx was loads better, and saw barely any play.

Card quality is massively affected by the format around the card though. Cephalid Looter was like the best card in Odyssey block limited, while Reckless Scholar was the worst card in Zendikar limited. They're the exact same card functionally, it's just that the formats were vastly different.

I don't give a shit that the character is pandering, it's moreso that the art is boring. If they made her art more like original Thalia's where she's standing triumphantly on the steps of a pyramid or something it would look so much better.
>>

>>52667259
I love Rashmi's effect, hell I even put it in my standard simic emerge deck but the art does nothing for me
It tells nothing about the character, it's just a man-faced elf touching some kind of magic stuff
I don't get any "Genius inventor" vibe out of it, meanwhile you look at LotV and you clearly see what she's all about

>>52667286
That's exactly what I mean, now it's like they a list of forbidden stuff for their art and it kills the flavor of it all, just look at all the bland dwarves from kaladesh
>>
>>52667342
Was there any real reason for the aether revolt other than oh no the consulate is taking away all the inventions!

>gideon is probably going to die this set
>>
>>52666986

Only if it's paired with trample
>>
>>52667388
So the issue is that it doesn't convey who she is within the magic lore rather than her not being sexy enough? If she really is some genius inventor then them not mentioning that part in the art actually goes against the supposed SJW empowerment agenda.
>>
>>52665506
Had a healthy laugh, thanks
>>
>>52667388
There was a reason, but for that you have to read all the stories in their website. And fuck that, the story should be clear just by looking at the cards.

If you do, it just look like a wonderful place where everyone is happy and creative then suddenly they are all against the goverment. Because reasons. There are a couple cards that show mild opression, but nothing to the level we have seen in this set. Here, the shitty parts of the world are better done and scarier.

In fact it reminds me to Battle for zendikar and Innistrad with eldrazi. Eldrazi in BFZ where boring but in innistrad they fit amazingly well. A revolution in Kaladesh looked silly but here it makes more sense. Even better, if it happens, it isn't clear who is going to win (I sure hope it gets crushed).

>>
>>52667622
They're based on Guardians of Meletis, which describes the two rulers as lovers.

Honestly, I don't mind forced diversity, as long as it doesn't
1) change the established things of a character (race/gender/sexual orientation)
2) isn't pandering (pandering is not just any appealing, its the appealing to vicious emotion; usually involves making other groups look bad by comparison or glorifying a certain group, such as if they're superior or can do no wrong; Ghostbusters 2016 is a prime example of pandering, having gay romance in Mass Effect is not unless it glorifies it above straight relationships or shits on straight relationships)

I think creators should be able to make their characters with whatever ethnicity and gender they want and not submit to the meme of forced diversity, but it's usually not a huge change so I'm not going to make a fuss about it until it gets to an [UNSOLICITED OPINIONS ON ISRAEL???] level of SJW madness.

But there was no revolution in Kaladesh, there was a restoration .
At the end of the story, they didn't change the plane, they restored it back to what it was before Tezeret arrived.

I would actually have really liked an actual revolution, but that would have required a lot of build-up. Like an actual ideological conflict, preferably without manichaeism even if you want one side to be right.
As someone who like revolutionary themes and imagery, I will tell you revolutions are only depicted in fiction when they are devoid of any meaning and any stakes. And it frustrate me greatly.
