Has this happened before?

Also, BR looks to be shaping up pretty well in this set minus the seemingly strange lack of embalm. I guess I understand why black lacks those mechanics from a fluff standpoint, but oh well, at least the zombie tribal flavor isn't so bad.

Deathtouch, indestructible

Can't attack unless you control another creature with 4 or more strength

2G:: Another target creature gets +2/+0 and trample until end of turn

what did wotc mean by this?

I find it interesting that its activated ability affects all zombies, not just your own.

>>52649094
Zombie tribal has gotten a big push today.
>>
>>52648925
I haven't seriously played M:tG in a long time, since before Planeswalkers were printed, in fact. Am I correct in assuming her third ability is kinda "meh," something you would *maybe* use towards the end of the game, while her first two abilities combined are where she really shines?
>>
>>52649271
Yes. Planeswalkers generally shouldn't be evaluated by their ultimates.
>>
>>52649220
Did not expect Deathtouch but otherwise what was expected. Hell, it's even stronger than theorised since the requirement is only 4 strength. You can easily achieve that on turn 4.
>>
>>52649220
>deathtouch
>on a 5/5
Would giving him trample make him too broken ?
>>
>>52649271
the "ultimate" ability is generally what you're supposed to be building up to and a good one can be game-ending because you're not supposed to actually get them that far
more often than not, an actually valuable 'walker has good other abilities and the "ultimate" is just gravy
>>

>>
>>52649235
We still have the black one, but yeah, calling it now, it's not going to top this.
Prediction: 3B for 5/4 menace indestructible, can only attack or block if your life is XYX or less, activated ability pays life.
>>
>>52649297
Hell, t3 this, t4 nuGideon or oldGideon, animate gideon, attack with 5/5 deathtouch.
>>
>>52648925
Aside from the fact that it's yet another Nissa (seriously WotC, give us a new walker. I don't care if it has to be that black woman that was talked about, I'm tired of seeing the same walkers every block) I think it's pretty cool.
>>
>>52649337
Or even in stompy you buff one creature at sorcery speed and suddenly you get a 5/5 for 2G on the field able to attack
>>
I'm starting to understand why many oldfags dislike planeswalkers now
>>
>>52649332
3B for a 5/4 menace indestructible sounds right, but I get the feeling it'll be more graveyard oriented. Can't attack or defend unless X cards or X creatures in a graveyard. Hopefully it's not just another pay life to draw mechanic

>>
>>52649369
Graveyard would make sense, but every other God has an attack/block condition that can be easily manipulated, like hand size or number of creatures. Graveyard is hard to fill and empty, for both players

I'm calling it, these two sets are going to have ALL the Gatewatch get a card, just in time for Nicol Bolas to hand them their first real defeat.

After that, yeah they've already said that they're going to dial down Gatewatch cards after Amonkhet. The excuse was "we couldn't apply feedback until the set after Amonkhet because of how far ahead we work.

I can get behind this card, I love me some tokens. I wonder if this stacks with itself.

>gideon now makes two 2/2s
>>
>>52650591
Everyone is saying literally the opposite.
It's Kamigawa 2.0, there's very few worth cards and overall the power level is really low, the mechanics and frames are pretty bad, and the hyped up things like the Gods are huge disappointments.
>>
>>52650591
there's a couple bombs but it's nice to see a lot of value cards, pretty evenly distributed, and in good number
>>
>>52650612
It does better than "stack".
It multiplies.
If you have two 'sessions out, anything that'd make you one token instead makes four. Because one times two times two is four. Stop me if this is too much to take in.
Three 'sessions? 1 becomes 8.
Four 'sessions? 1 becomes 16.
Make token copies of your 'sessions? You'll need to bring over another table for your tokens.
>>
>>52649220

So, Wizards, tell me if we aren't one of the lucky few to actually pull a God Card, how are we supposed to interact with it in limited? All the -1/-1 counters get put on our own creatures. There's no common-level remove indestructibility or prison auras so far. Are we to just lie down and let the opponent run a train over us?

I really like new Nissa in a vacuum. It's a lot of fun, really powerful without being completely broken, and seems to offer a lot of opportunities for counterplay.

On the other hand, it's real hard to shake the suspicion that one of two things is going to happen. Either it's going to be impossible to consistently get her out early and protect her, and she's going to be unplayable in another aggro-midrange format (or combo format - playing this against a Saheeli deck seems insanely bad) (I guess this goes in the same deck as that one 2G artifact hoser though so who knows maybe that's good enough). Or, it's going to be possible to get her out early and protect her consistently, in which case she provides enough value that she's going to be part of a dominant deck.

The problem is cards don't exist in a dang vacuum, you know, and there hasn't been any real sign of Wizards' capacity to balance everything out.
>>
>>52652313
Green one Pairs insanely with the red one.

Just have a Noose Constrictor on turn 2

So trample is on life support until they cand find new evasion for green.
>>
>>52652541

I don't really understand the hype desu, she seems awful in every format

Her 0 ability has the same problem that Narset planeswalker had which is that it only checks the top card so it's easy to whiff and you get no value for whiffing (unlike rashmi, for instance)

Her scry ability is also very low impact, not going to cut it for a planeswalker

Basically the only way you can play her is to be a UG ramp deck with a high number of creatures and get lucky with her 0
>>
>>52650867
At first I thought that was a super rare merchant
>>
>>52652645
you scry to set up the 0 ability. also, if you set your deck up right, it seems like you should hit a very high % of the time. over the long run, you're going to get completely insane value out of her. ramp is a natural home for her but i don't think she's limited to that.

the problem isn't the value, it's the thing where she's completely made of glass

I get that you scry to set up the 0, but that's a whole turn of doing nothing, and then a second turn where unless you have a high impact creature in your top 2 cards, you're also doing nothing (getting a mana dork off your top deck isn't worth her mana cost)

I don't foresee this being played in any format at all

I agree in the sense that this is a card that you are playing for the long game and not for immediate game-changing value, but the value that it provides over the long term is insane

Also, that ability feels awfully complex for what the NWO claims should be the case.

Jace has the luck to have not been butchered by the Kaladesh story, since he only appeared in three/four stories, of which two were on Ravnica

>tribal
>nothing but 3-mana lords
>1 each of a 1-mana and 2-mana efficient creature

Yeah no. The thing about Merfolk, Elves, and Zombies is that they actually do something unique, even all-Lords like Merfolk. Other tribal is just dogshit Lords. Even mono-white Death and Taxes is a better tribal deck than pushed Lord tribal decks.

I just lost The Game.
>>
>>52654120
The active ability is supposed to work with their creature condition though. If it's just discard it'll likely be a creature dependent on the opponent's hand if anything since Hazoret already has a discard engine. I'm thinking it might be lifelink and pay life to draw cards because, as bland as it is, it ties into the "ambition" theme well enough

Oh wow.
HAHAHA.

This. He was especially good in the Shadows story as a fish out of water in a plane that doesn't take shit from mind mages. His slow descent into insanity was also pretty fun.

I was joking but now I'm realizing there's at least a few minotaurs in this set. I thought there was literally one other minotaur even in the set at first.

no seriously, are there books? how can I read the story?
>>
>>52654254

Zombies just placed in an SCG modern event. They're not anywhere near Merfolk or Elves, but they're still a long ways away from shit like Minotaurs.

Books used to be packaged with the Fat Packs, you can find a lot of them for cheap online. More recently in Magic's History, they've been posted on the Magic website, however.
>>
>>52654050
>>52654285
There used to be books. Mileage may vary if you decide to seek them out.
Currently the story is delivered in weekly articles on wizards' website.
>>

>>52654313
awesome, thanks guys. I only started with fatpacks in innistrad, I bought single packs before that.
>>
>>52654285
They post weekly stories on the official website. The quality of writing varies widely though because Wizards employs something like 6+ different writers at any given time.

If you want to know more about the lore of the setting and not just specific stories, you can check out the wiki.

What other format do you want to talk about? Legacy, where Merfolk don't exist? Or are you just lazily shitposting?

There are books spanning as far back as Arabian Nights, probably further. Since some of the more recent sets, it's all online.

Honestly just get a trip, something like "memedernette!" and "cuck" on the hash.

'Heaven to Earth' is a silly name.
This is the only one that works with the old naming scheme. 'Heaven and Earth' is so much better.

That's not how balancing works.
>>
>>52654657
You could even make them sorceries and have them be decent. They all just seem insanely overcosted for no reason.

As soon as I saw Rags was a 4 mana sorcery for -2/-2 sweeper I knew all Aftermath cards were gonna be hot garbage

god i hate Chandra,i can tolerate everyone else but i just hate Chandra's "i HAVE to rebel against everything"

But anon you don't understand!! It's two cards in one! For one card you can do two things! Clearly slapping an extra mana on both sides is the only way to make them fair.

Am I the only one who is happy that Aftermath is total shit? Those cards are uglier than sin and they deserve to disappear

that isn't zombie tribal though, cool deck nonetheless
>>
>>52649197
Maybe if you and everyone else's mother didn't cry and complain incessantly about the 18 month rotation then maybe BFZ/OGW wouldn't be in the new standard once Amonkhet hits.

Consider maybe not being a fucking mongoloid and thinking about why we're here instead of just bitching at them constantly.
>>
Do you think Neheb can work in a madness list?

I've been trying to do that one for a while now.
>>
>>52655108

It's a black deck with predominantly zombie creatures. What else does it have to have to qualify as a tribal deck? Lords?
>>
>>52655188
It's a deck made exclusively or almost like short of 1 creature of X creature type, that deck is half zombies and half vampires and is basically a mono black aggro deck.
>>
>>52655188
Over a third of the creatures are not Zombies. To be a tribal, it needs to be at least almost exclusively one type of creature and be creature focused deck.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about those sad sacks of lard that weigh 300lbs but have A-cups, but it made me think of those rare girls that have relatively small bodies and no chest but massive hips/thighs/ass.
