I bitched about how it basically shrunk the Big Mac that was DoW1 to a fucking cheeseburger and then pretended it was a full meal if you add fries and a drink, but I still gave it a chance. The SP campaign ended up being Diablo: Warhammer 40k which is so sorely fucking needed in my opinion, so that was a pleasant surprise. Everything else was just an overall meh, because there wasn't much replayability.

DoW1 was always about the mayhem of WH40k battles. I still play mega battles in DoW1 just to record the ones that were the most entertaining, and then rewatch them and still get that comfy feel of WH40k havoc. DoW2 essentially took out the mayhem, and its longevity suffered for it.

Its actually quite the demotion. He was Captain of the Honour Guard and defacto 1st Company Captain. Very rarely are Chaplains given operational command authority, and even then usually in a narrow capacity. Chaplain Cassius has senior command over anti-Tyrannic Ultramarines operations, but only after a lifetime of fighting Tyranids. The Carcharadons' chaplain (right?) basically sat in a corner as a yes man during the Badab War. From what we see here, Diomedes is basically stuck to Gabe's ass.

Both of which are par for the course for literally any space marine. The same thing happened to Davian Thule and Eliphas the Inheritor when they appeared in DoW 2. There is no reason it won't happen to other characters in later games. There is precedent for this sort of thing.

Remember his lines from DoW2 ending, that he cannot serve the chapter in the same way as he used to? I can definitely see him taking a demotion as punishment.
Chaplain seems fitting, both because someone who fucked up and allowed heresy to take root in chapter would be trying extra hard to prevent that gain, and because his weapon-grade shouting is wasted in any other position.

That varies wildly depending on the actual situation.
Craftworld being invaded by Tyranids? Hell yes muster every Guardian and Warrior etc.

But what the hell is Macha doing here? Did she just send dozens of banshees into close combat with orks where a pair of fighter craft could've done a much better job with much MUCH fewer - if any - losses. After all the Eldar's posturing about the value of their lives, I can't imagine risking dozens of banshees is a better deal than risking a few fighters and a few pilots. Every single Eldar snuffed out in a second by a wayward bolt is centuries of experience and centuries of life-yet-lived lost, a tragedy (for them). Limited forces is not an excuse for incompetent use of said forces.

The dawn of war series, as well as various other fluff bits, has nonsensical stuff like this that flies in the face of the Eldar's strong emphasis on self-preservation. Like when they decided an old vase of theirs was worth getting thousands if not more of their own warriors massacred by the Ultramarines. Or "lol let's assault an imperial forge city head on with light infantry" in DoW2.

The Eldar are meant to be subtle and patient, utilising every possible means to a goal that doesn't involve risking themselves. They're only supposed to risk their precious lives once absolutely all other options have been exhausted and only if success would save more Eldar that it would cost, and when employed are supposed to be tactically competent. But this all just gets cast to the wayside when an author wants "dead smug elves lol".

Not necessarily. Fighters are inefficient at killing hordes so they can flat out ignore you and be off on their merry way with the Spear you're fighting for. But if you send the guys that specialize in wiping out hordes efficiently you can win.

In the Barran War fluff a Swordwind of a few dozen Aspect Warriors sent a feral Ork force many times their size packing because the Scorpions assassinated the warboss and his boys. In this instance, fighters wouldn't have been able to do anything as the Warboss and his boyz were hiding in underground burrows until the Aspects flushed em out.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Eldar should place a lot of emphasis on using the least costly tactics possible for any given situation. They should be a total opposite to the Imperium, where equipment is much more important than lives, and instead consider an entire melted Falcon being a negligible loss compared to an Eldar life.

Sadly this is often ignored and Eldar gleefully charge to pointless deaths like in the Eldar intro, against all semblance of in-universe sense.

Sadly some writers get pretty lazy when it comes to writing Eldar. When they're written well they're basically ghosts that hit, disappear and then hit again from another direction.
