>want to make dex based fighter who uses a long sword
>rapier is so much more effective
>God damn hate the feel/aesthetic of rapiers
Anyone else been in a similarly autistic position?
>>52627813
Why not both?
>>52627813
>use rapier mechanically
>flavor it as a "light" longsword
wow look at that problem solved
What edition are you in? Because if this is pathfinder I might be able to help you.
>>52627813
>Write longsword on sheet
>Use stats for rapier
Man that was hard.
>>52627813
Which autism simulator are you suffering through?
Does it forbid picking a stat block and a weapon appearance separately?
>>52627813
Use the rapier, call it a sabre or some shit.
>>52627856
fpbp.
>>52627813
Nope, I play TRoS. Every fighter is a Dex fighter here.
>>52627813
Nope, I play GURPS. I use DEX for Longswords too.

just refluff it

What if the DM doesn't allow refluff?

Wow I guess I am autistic
>>52628980
I'm 99.85% mine would allow it
>>52628966
Next time I should pic a Wizards and Refluff it as a Fighter then. Solve everything that is wrong with D&D 3.5.
>>52628948
Does the wizard have fuckhuge sword proficiency?
Is his offhand left "open" for using the fuckhuge sword (assuming it is two-handed)?
Is he following all the rules of using the fuckhuge sword (such as using it with STR to attack)?
If the answer to all of those is "yes", then why the fuck not?
>>52629040
Anime fighting magic lets you shoot fireballs out of your sword and deflect attacks with your magic shield.
>>52629040
Pretty much.
Well, aside from the autistic skill system and the ridiculous amount of spells you need to pore through.
>>52629040

>>52629093
>Make a melee spell attack with advantage if they are wearing metal armor. They take 1d8 lightning damage and can't take reactions for one turn.
Unless the damage type is relevant due to resistance, you could easily refluff this as striking a pressure point or clapping their ears or some other technique that momentarily distracts them. Something about exploiting a weak point in their armor.
>>52629093
Yep and then I will Refluff my Human as an Elf.
Because Human bonus are so much better but I don't want to play them.
>>52629138
>>52629174
In fact why don't Refluff some other system as D&D, because nobody want to play that other system, only D&D. But the other is clearly much better. So I'll Refluff it.
>>52629093
What you other fighters can't fly, turn into dragons or summon unicorns with strength alone? I guess you just don't lift enough.
>>52627813
But anon, the aesthetic of rapiers is pretty damn similar to that of a longsword. You've probably been deeply confused by sport fencing and the media and are thinking of an epee/ foil.
>>52629138
I'm fine with this.
The only point of contention is the meditation elves do and the lack of lowlight vision, but otherwise the extra feat could be just some sort of different kind of elf upbringing. The stats are like, who cares?
>>52629194
>Command Word: Death
"Dost thou even lift?"
>Summon creature
Flex until a bicep pops right off, regrow it, punch the bicep into shape, scream inspirational word into its ear until it forces itself to life to fulfill it's potential! Sadly it cannot handle its might and manly mission for long and shall revert into a pool of pure testosterone after a few minutes
>Gaseous Form
Flex until you burst into a cloud of pure whey powder.
>>52629060
>Does the wizard have fuckhuge sword proficiency?
No, it's a dagger.
>Is his offhand left "open" for using the fuckhuge sword?
Yes, because it's actually a dagger.
>Is he following all the rules of using the fuckhuge sword (such as using it with STR to attack)?
No, because this is a dagger.
See the point of the post you were replying to now?
>>52629221
Only because D&D misuses the word "longsword". The ACTUAL longsword generally means a type of two-handed weapon.
>>52629235
But that's bullshit. You can't just use the stats of a greatsword for a dagger, while also using all the advantages of a dagger. Otherwise everyone would be using "greatswords BUT looks like a shortbow! A dagger! A dart!".
>>52629235
Not really, unless the point is that he doesn't understand how refluffing works.

>>52629250
Not just D&D anon, virtually every movie, videogame, and tabletop property calls an arming sword a longsword. I think the only exception is the Witcher series.

*cough*GURPS*cough*
>>52629235
Unless you use hobgoblin in 5e, then you have longsword proficiency

Captain Feathersword please and take you that rose eating dinosaur with you.
>>52629040
That's easy
>>52628046
You can refluff it to a saber, or an arming sword, or whatever you want, but it will still mechanically only be capable of piercing damage. Refluffing can only get you so far.
>>52627813
Replace the word "Longsword" with the word "Estoc"
A dexterity based weapon that does piercing damage and has the aesthetic of a longsword.
Done.
>>52630609
Damage types for weapons are both really silly, and don't matter 90% of the time anyway.
>>52630609
>rapier can only do piercing
Do people who write this shit not actually know what they are talking about?
>>52630856
It's based on an old misconception/misunderstanding that rapiers are essentially a type of foil.
>>52630947
All those old ovied where the plucky hero gets dissed by a fencing-aster, so he swears to become his superior and wreak vengeance upon him, used foils almost exclusively. Musketeers, too, iirc.
>>52631358
*old MOVIES

>>52629339

>>52627813
Just use a rapier dude. If you are having hang ups about their feel/aesthetic then you clearly don't know what a real rapier is. 1. THEY ARE NOT LIGHT, they way the same or more than the typical arming sword (short sword), 2. They are as long or longer than the typical two handed sword (long sword). 3. THEY ARE NOT FLIMSY, they are stiffer than most other swords due to their blade geometry. 4. Most of them can cut fairly effectively. 5. They are probably the single most deadly bladed weapon 1-v-1 against an unarmored opponent (ignoring spears and pole-arms).

>Dream Elf - Elves originally from the realm of dreams, they require nightly contact with their home or begin to weaken. Even this is not enough though, and extended stays in the material realm lead to premature aging and early death from malnutrition. Their drowsy and dazed demeanor makes them less observant than most Elves, as well as leaves them susceptible to sleep and charm effects. Sleeping at night also has caused them to lose their lowlight vision to atrophy. That said, these Elves dreams have very real effects on them. Those with varied dreams become well-rounded individuals (Basic), while those with reoccurring dreams become exceeding proficient at one kind of scenario (Variant).
That was some pretty easy refluffing.
