Fun fact, the second Achillus was actually a free Contemptor Galatus I acquired with no weapons or hands. Salvaged it by making it an Achillus with Adrathic weapons instead. I only own one spear (I would buy a second spear alone if that was an option)

I've a lore question for /HHG/, as a prospective CSM player. Every instance of power armor concept art and all of the recent 30k Space Marine models depict their backpacks as having vents mounted very close to the pack instead of stuck out quite far. When did Chaos suddenly materialize these weird new backpacks when all the heresy armor has the much more sleek packs?

I use a sculpting tool to apply it but an exacto blade will work fine. You can shape it pretty easily while putting it on but if you want to do anything thick you need to do multiple thin layers. It takes a while to dry and if you put it on too thick the surface will dry but leave a wet blob underneath which will take forever to set. It's still very springy after drying and it can be difficult to secure a model to do either push the model's feet into it halfway through drying to leave impressions to glue to or put small pins in the feet to act as anchors.

Found a potential candidate for augmentation. Says it's about 12cm short, but with some engines and a proper smoke trail it'll be about perfect. Remove or enhance stubby fins and tail, replace jaw with bridge and stud with cables, turrets and plating as required, with upper walkways and such. Be a regular flying destroyer.

The way BL writes the Emps the idea that a sacrifice from another one is the thing that sparks him to lose his shit isnt going to cut it. I would not be surprised if it was retconed to something like the Emperor wasnt fighting Horus but the four gods as Horus mauled his physical body and since he could not win he simply erased the connection of the gods and the material realm, Horus' soul.

I find people are more encouraged without minimum painting requirements for a store, but I do agree that any basic minimum of paint is better than nothing. To give some insight into the perspective though, some people who paint slowly or poorly (I'm of the slow variety) just want to play with their toys, and will usually work on beautifying them between games


These days, as I work on my Custodes (I'm the guy who had a picture of an eggo waffle in the first picture of his wip), I'm content with taking my time and doing a nice job, instead of rushing to get them to tabletop. Because I find that takes away the relaxing quality of working on the modelling and paint job, and can result in sloppy work. Hopefully 8th edition will be out by the time I'm done, if not just before.

Fellow Custodes anon here. I have over 2k of Custodes ready to play, but even then I dislike using unpainted models unless my opponent wants to fight them the moment they're built.

I'd rather have quality models I spend a few days on versus just shitting stuff out. Even though I'll have new things like my Coronus Grav Carriers I won't use them until they're completed. We don't know what happened to them during the Siege, and following 10,000 years, but there were various groups on Terra who were experts in technology of some kind. Usually in some highly specialized fashion. The very best groups were probably absorbed directly into the Imperial Household, like the one mentioned in the Custodes fluff section who supplies them with Lostok Stormbolter ammunition.

Same. Thankfully there's a fairly strong community here in Halifax (Canada), so everyone encourages each other, and comes into the store to get painting done and show off their work. With me, I meant to do a nice job on my 7th ed Lizardmen, but almost 100 models is a bit more annoying to get painted up all at once, as opposed to about 30 Custodes I'm going to have at the end of this new army that brought me back. Plus that larger scale helps with the details a bit.

We won't really know until the novels or FW black books get to Terra. And FW won't necessarily agree with the novels. So basically, check back in 10 years.

According to old fluff, Mk VII started production on Terra prior to the Siege so the Imperial Fists, White Scars, and Blood Angels should have some. But many would be wearing the armor they arrived in, and if it was Mk IV then they'd probably rather wear that than Mk VII. The Blood Angels did like Mk IV.

What about the guys wearing Mk III? The IF might prefer it over Mk VII. Among the WS and BA, normally most would probably take Mk VII over III, but in a siege situation some might stick with the older armor.

I'm not involved here, but I've seen wildly different shades of gray from FW. I've got genuine FW Epic Wave Serpents (yeah, really old) that are beige, gray, and greenish gray under the paint.
