It's a fantasy game you mongoloid.
>>
>>52585587
There are man made laws, and all that. Have enough money, contacts, whatever? You're above the law. Essentially, everyone/thing is above the law, while on the other hand, nothing is above justice. It's like a force of existence, like gravity, or death, unlike law.
>>
>>52584324
Or they're just people who have played D&D and use its alignment system as reference for their actions... Nah, that isn't possible. It's not like this board is dedicated to the discussion of Traditional Games or anything.

objective morality, mongoloid. there are no unjust laws in D&D
>>
>>52585554
Justice is the ideal, laws are the practical compromises.
>>
>>52585607
Are there no unjust laws in fantasy games?
>>
>>52585630
Depends on the DM and the character's alignment. If RPGs are your grounds for shitty philosophy debates you may need a new hobby.
>>
>>52585630
You need to ask yourself some questions about the law first.
1. Who set the law
2. What was its intended purpose
3. Do you feel you are in a station above whoever set the law?
Weigh up your options, then act accordingly.

We can observe and measure gravity, we know death is a fact. Justice is not equivocal to a natural law. Justice is a human concept.

Now you went full on retard mode, dragons don't have "infants" the lay eggs and the unhatched dragons are already intelligent and know how superior they are to mortals. Upon hatching the dragon hatchling is already capable of killing your average human and will do so and eat it without hesitation. Plus dragons don't have "single offsprings" they lay multitudes of eggs because dragons are fierce rival and most dragon hatchlings will get preyed upon by other older dragons or the hatcling prey upon each other because they are a potential threat to them.

For dragons there is no love for your young, they are only a necessity to propagate their species and grow their power base.

I bet Drow women just birth fucken hundreds of children, one after another, for a few days. Then the next few months are filled with subterfuge as the females send the males to eliminate their rivals children, then play dumb about it if the males get caught.

Probably not, because they aren't insects or dragons, but it's the kind of thing Drow would do.
>>
>>52583911
dragons aren't inherently evil for the most part (depends by color and setting obviously) so murdering the baby dragon would be an evil action

it hasnt done anything wrong, isnt responsible for the actions of its parent and is capable of doing great good - if anything it is your duty to raise it as a morally upstanding individual

No because dragon behavior, as dumb as it is, has a tiny semblance of logic behind it.

Drows as a race and as a society on the other hand are completely bullshit retarded and only exist and function because they have a real living goddess literally babysitting their entire society 24/7.
>>
>>52586482
It's already raised. Dragons hatch from the egg with their intelligence installed. So it depends on the colour, and because the prompt already tells us that we killed the dragon, then we can already assume we don't like whatever colour it is anyway. So you can be completely upstanding about killing the baby dragon, just make sure it doesn't kill you first, because it can do that.

/tg/ isn't a roleplaying board, it's a traditional games board. Games like warhammer, chess, and mtg do not require any roleplaying. The only games here that do are tabletop roleplaying games, which are just a small fraction of the games discussed here. If this were not true, they would not have moved quests to /qst/.

alright. so it is statistically extremely unlikely that this dragon will change alignment, having been born bad and gone through great trauma at an early age. the pragmatic thing to do for everyone is to kill it.
>>

Well as you are the traumatic event at the early age, and you have power over the dragon. You'd have the best odds of reprogramming the dragon to be good or neutral or at the very least loyal to you.

It still seems like a bad idea to fuck with the head of a chromatic dragon. They were already known for being somewhat fickle in their actions, so that just seems like it would worsen it. Would you trust a mentally traumatised red dragon to watch your back? I certainly wouldn't.

You have a theocratic feudal society that is based on slavery, cruelty and deceit, with the power hierarchy only being decided based on who can assassinate, blackmail, bribe, force the other more effectively. Everyone is constantly backstabbing everyone into infinity because this is the only way to get ahead in the hierarchy or at least keep your place in the hierarchy or else you end up as a slave or worse dead.

You cannot realistically live in a civilized society where literally everyone and their mothers are constantly planning to enslave/murder you and your family. This also includes your immediate family, your mate, your parents, your children, your servants, literally everyone secretly planning to to get you. All while you have to worship a goddess that demands the blood sacrifice of living beings and the priesthood can literally select you or your children to be sacrificed any day they fancy and nobody can do anything about it. Why all this? Because "Drow elves are evil and they do all the nastiest evil shit because their alignment said so." By all common sense and logic such a society cannot function let alone prosper. Yet Drow while being rare and restricted to the underground are one of the most advanced and powerful societies out there, while in all rhyme and reason it should be on the level of animals.

And after all that shit, at the end of the day none of that actually matters because it is always Lolth the goddess herself that watches every single Drow ever and decides who she saves from assassination and who just allows to die because of her whims.

All hail the Original Autist, he who cross-classed into Edgelord.
>>
>>52591704
It's gonna be long 8 years...
>>
>>52591839
It's worth pointing out that drow have the reproductive rates of humans but still live to be hundreds of years old, and many of their assassination plots don't go off for years. Some matrons live up to like 800 and shit. Though somehow these people who could have a kid every year and live hundreds of years always end up having like five children. Drowtales had a character who lived to be quite a few centuries old, and when it came time for war she fielded an army of hundreds of her daughters and her daughter's daughters and her daughter's daughter's daughters. I thought that was pretty sweet.

Blood sacrifices also includes slaves, so it doesn't have to be other drow, though it still is fairly often. And that bit about Lolth's favor deciding who lives and dies is only somewhat true, she doesn't watch every single person but she can make it clear whether or not you have her favor to everyone around you which can make you free game and destroy an entire house overnight if you piss her off.

All this power hierarchy stuff also happens in the ruling houses. There are more normal drow living in slums and shit. They might assassinate to get ahead in life, but it's not required for them.

There are also a few drow in the novels who lacked a thirst for power, and were simply content with their lives. Not good, or even neutral, but content. I remember one priestess of a pretty high level temple who was expected to kill her way to the top, but was completely fine with just maintaining her temple to Lolth and got nervous around other drow thinking they might realize she was weak and replace her. Cute, until you rememb

>>
>>52592265
Which is why I said a few.

It's just worth pointing out that not every single drow, or even every single female drow of noble blood in a house, is constantly gunning for the person above them. Sometimes you have a goal, and you reach it, and you can only get away with so many assassination attempts.

Another thing to add, drow nobles from conquered houses are often adopted by the victor. Sometimes they quietly seek revenge, sometimes they look at things more pragmatically and just try to watch their backs and accept their new lot. Some become unwilling servants/bodyguards/agents and hope to be liberated or escape in some fashion some day.

>>
>>52591839
The structure of drow society comes from the idea of the 60-70 that twists evolution's "survival of the fittest" theory and attempts to apply it to a fictional society to serve as the reason why the individuals of said society are so badass. They have to be the most absolute badasses to survive because if they are weak they will be culled.

The members of said society are supposed to be so badass because they survived in an environment that is extremely hostile, even to the levels of absurdity. This logic might make sense on the surface level but misses the important detail that a society is ultimately formed with the goal of protecting itself and its members against the dangers of the outside world because individually the members of the society are weaker but united they are stronger. The dangers of the outside world can be anything from basic environmental hazards like cold weather, to securing supplies to sate the needs of its members (food, shelter etc.) to other dangers like animals or rival societies. A society where its own members pose the number one threat to each other fails at the basic concept working together to become stronger instead of being weaker individually.

It also misinterprets evolution, evolution is not just about that only the biggest baddest individual in the group who gets to pass on their genes to produce even bigger and badder offsprings. First evolution has an inherent randomness to it due to genetics and due to the constantly changing traits that define what is needed to be the fittest.
>>
>>52592684

The end of the 60s (culturally) is usually attributed the Manson Family murders. The late 60s to early 70s had an absurd amount of cases of bombings and domestic terrorism. You had radical left-wing groups like Weatherman, Symbionese Liberation Army, Puerto Rican independence group FALN (who was very likely backed by Cuba), and radical black liberation groups bombing police stations, government buildings, robbing banks because they believed the revolution was fucking nigh.

So a lot of politicians ran on platforms of returning law and order back to America, which is why mandatory sentencing and minimum sentences are thing even today. Because back then, citizens were tired of violent criminal acts, and because it was a first offense, the culprit would be out on the streets within a year or so. It's also where you started seeing harsher sentences for drug posession (which was expanded in the War on Drugs in the 80s), because that was how a lot of these groups were funding their activities. Also you saw the increased militarization of police forces to deal with increasingly well-equipped criminals.

It's long topic, and I've probably oversimplified things, but that's the gist of it.

It's not the senseless murder of noncombatants. It's not needless torture, or imprisoning sapient beings and reducing them to property, or needless torture. It's not fucking GENOCIDE
Is there Lawful Good rape? If you defeat the evil sorceress, is it Just to cut out her tongue so she can't cast evil spells anymore, and keep her as a cumdumpster for righteousness?
How about bestiality? Arranged child marriages?

Is the only difference between Good and Evil how much you act for personal benefit within your own code of ethics?

>Is there Lawful Good rape? If you defeat the evil sorceress, is it Just to cut out her tongue so she can't cast evil spells anymore, and keep her as a cumdumpster for righteousness?
Well, if we assume the children born from that rape inherit her magical potential and can be raised to be good, it could be considered eugenics that strengthens the next generation of guardians of good and law. In that case evil sorceresses should constantly be raped, impregnated and forced to give birth until they die.

Mercy is the avoidance of needless suffering - it is not the opposite of justice,it is a method of of its implementation

mercy is the difference between a lethal injection and hanging drawing and quartering

It wasn't really an immigrant problem back then, if you're referring to FALN. Just radical leftist independence-types. They'd actually be around for a while at that point. They bombed Congress back in the 50s and tried to assassinate Truman when he was still president. The crazy thing was when they finally nailed them in the 70s, a lot of them were pardoned by Bill Clinton (possibly to curry favor with New York's Puerto Rican American population in anticipation for Hillary's Senate run). And the big guy behind the bombings (Oscar Rivera) was actually pardoned by Obama just as he left office.

>Lawful
They both believe in a system that will successfully work their ideals.
>Good
For the benefit of the people. We need to abolish the evil laws, destroy that bandit camp, and save the princess for the good of the people.
>Evil
For moustache-twirling profit. Not really. Your specific interests benefit. Remove that law, and it's not illegal to do X; that bandit camp stole my magic ring, bring them to "justice"; if I save the princess, I can get a sample of her blood to complete the ritual.

etc.
Evil doesn't mean 'destroy the world' and good doesn't mean ivory towers and anti-undead fields.
Evil can have friends, good can be a dick.

Mr A is problematic in that an aggressor is often a victim in some regard. By completely forming a black-white contrast it creates a scenario of absolutes.

Imagine if Mr A was deceived by a 'victim' making him take out his brand of justice on the 'aggressor' when in fact the believed acting party had done nothing wrong. Does Mr A blame himself or the 'victim'? Is he willing to treat himself to the same 'justice' he's had for his aggressors or will he wash his hands of it and simply put that justice on the 'victim'?

Mr A as a character could actually be quite interesting when grey inevitably mixes its way into his equation. If the writer had self awareness.

If you mean inherited, probably. In most cases they get it from somewhere

If you meant inherent though, i'd say no. Most personality traits, evil ones included, are a reaction to stimuli, not any in-built system.

>>52594530
There is only the Earned and the Unearned.
If someone earns punishment through their actions, the deserve the punishment. It is the just consequence.

By harboring sympathies for the condemned is the path to weakness and dereliction of justice, which is an insult and theft from the victim. However it is only our actions which count, and if you can make the conscious choice of good and justice, overcoming your urges to cheat the victim of justice to soothe your personal guilt, then you're hero.

We are naturally empathetic beings, it is one of our greatest strengths as humans. But to let our natural sympathies, which act to discourage violence against each other in normal life, hold us back from enacting justice on behalf of the victim, is to be complicit to the crime through weakness.

>>52594813
>problematic
>aggressor is the victim

Christ, you're a fucking stereotype.
I have no doubt, Mr. A would hold himself to his own standards, if he committed violence on the basis of being misinformed.
>>
>>52595060
And what stereotype am I anon?

Mr A has bent his standards before, even as a walking talking embodiment of absolutism. Even as an absolute harbinger of retribution he has sided with Restitution. There are holes in him. Those actually make him interesting as a character than a walking ideological sounbox.

Well, for the first, nobody but the dragon can understand the language, so who would buy it?
For the second, nobody would buy them because if there's no record of the civilisations anyone could just say you made them up.
For the third, nobody but an outer being would buy them, and they are notoriously difficult to sell and ship to, considering the distance.

>>
>>52597969
It all depends on how you break it to her. Never keep it a secret, as soon as she asks about why she doesn't look like you, or what a dragon is, or how babies are made, explain to her that her biodad was a bad person and that's why you had to raise her. If you do it early enough she won't realize that there's anything to be upset at you about. If she does get upset, she'll be young enough that you can handle it. By the time she gets older you will have indoctrinated her enough that she understands and accepts what you did.

>>
>>52595592

>>
>>52598480
To maximize the problem as much as possible for the dragon, of course. Not necessarily really terrible, painful curses, but curses of weakness. The goal is to take as much power away from the dragon's offspring as possible so that you have this powerful parent whose child will grow up comparatively helpless.
>>
>>52598772
okay, now riddle me this. What stops him from just uncursing the kid and undoing the polymorph when you leave. Its a god damned dragon. Its way more magical on average than you are.
>>
>>52598788
I of course considered the scenario to be one where you are capable of effectively robbing a dragon. Whether that means your skill level is high enough to sneak around it, or you were powerful enough to subdue it even temporarily, maybe that dragon won't have such an easy time undoing your spells.
