Old vamp, i like new mage too.

Mage, either version. The two tend to run together when I come up with stuff for either game more than a lot of partisans would be happy with.

The technocracy is my main hangup with ascension.
>>
>>52578302

Odd, I always kind of liked them.

My hang up with ascension is the difficulty of suspending disbelief in some cases, and with awakening it's how hackneyed "the truth" is.
>>
>>52578430
I'm not a fan of the technology vs magic 'conflict'/paradigm/whatever you want to call it.
>>
>>52578464
It's a popular trope in fiction. I guess you're in the minority.

>>52578464
>technology vs magic
Mages in these games are highly adept with technology. There are technology wizards basically.

It's just the technocracy's name that gives you that other idea.
>>
>>52578622
Not all of the Awakened incorporate tech into their work.

Magic and science are the same thing based on your Paradigm. The Technocrats aren't wizards, and the Verbena aren't technologists.

There are similarities and exceptions in some cases, such as the Hermetics. They see magic as a different science compared to the Union; an arcane / occult science.
>>
>>52578464

See, the way I choose to "read" the Free Council is that they're basically what could have happened if the Traditions and Technocracy came together.

The Seers are the other possible result.

So for me, the Diamond are the odd man out. It's rare for me to play Diamond characters, and City/Region writeups I do tend to favor Council/Seers over the Diamond.

My problem is that the symbolism aspect of NMage is kind of shitty, and I prefer a more Existential approach to Mage.

The fact that "spooky goth wizard" is actually annoyingly hard to pull off in Requiem is one of my least favorite things about it. >>
>>52580851
Well there are also free-mason wizards and you can always build your own form of magic with what is written in Blood Sorcery
>>
>>52583221
The Spheres of Ascension and the Arcana of Awakening will generally outdo Disciplines at around 2 - 4 dots, while Gifts are in-between the two; over vampires but under mages.
>>
Vampires>Changelings>Mages>The rest

If your character's personalities would let them give up discovering how to kill with geometry alone then they were never really PCs.
>>
>>52583411
Mages being better than the rest is a very OWoD thing, CofD they are more or less equal to the others. There's not much that a mage can do against Celerity or Dominate for instance. Werewolves also win at 1v1 unless you're a Beast.

Huntsmen are my big one. I feel they make the Fae too prevalent in the real world, with too much of an immediate and persistent threat to the eternal question of when/whether your Keeper would come for you. Plus they're too much of the focus of the new need to keep yourself hidden, written in to too many systems.

I'm also mildly irritated that contracts are now one-off purchases rather than incremental ones, however I feel they may still have some of those.

I was initially quite annoyed that seeming is now only defined by your escape, rather than your durance, but still affects your appearance in various ways. But I've kinda come to accept it more now, but it still annoys me.

I was also initially irritated that harvesting glamour drains willpower, but I guess that it did seem a bit too good to be true that Changelings could get their resource back with almost no cost (albeit a lore suggestion that you might be harming their souls ever so slightly).

>>

So I can't speak my mind because you think I'm a shitposter?

>>52583750
It's not stupid If I'm speaking from experience. Mages aren't as powerful as people claim them to be. It's exaggerated a lot.
>>
>>52583784
I see what you mean about huntsmen. I never played Changeling but after reading 1ed core I particularly liked NPC called Grandfather Thunder or something. I liked the bit with described how he walked the cost armed with a iron hammer yelling at his Keeper to come at him. So yeah uncertainty and paranoia was great bit of True Fae

Willpower bit is IMHO alright because other splats that need to somehow interact with humans for stuff do inflict hurt in one way or another(Vamp, Beast and Demon)

I loved werewolf but I was fortunate to have a pre existing group so I never had to deal with the furry menace that supposedly surrounds it.

My character was a German Get of Fenris who had a veeery potent connection to his ancestors. He was rash, hot headed and it bit him in the ass when he got captured and tortured by wyrn beasts having to be saved by his pack (and learn a valuable lesson about teamwork).

Ech depands. Are we talking about game setting then I'm more inclined to build it around stuff I'm familiar with like history of europe and such

I played a Silent Strider Theurge in the Wild West. A slave with the thinnest bit of wolf that had a very bad view of western civilization in general and whites in particular and a lot of anger issues. He was basically werewolf Malcolm X prowling the wild frontier. He made a mess of traditional Striders spiritual practices, stuff he picked up from / bargained for with native mystics and whaty he learned about spirits by himself.
In the end he derailed the campaign by frenzying at the wrong time and killing all the wrong people... We never got to finish that story.

Curious how much of david hills version will be kept, not worried much though since rose bailey dev'd VtR and VtR's core book is great
>>

Sounds interesting. But I think it wouldn't go well; first, only certain clans would be more keen to do it (I imagine a Brujah or a Gangrel out of respect) I think the most practical clan for it would be the Malkavians. A mental disorder would be the most appropiate to handle the guilt for becoming what the hunter most hated or the will to still want to kill vampires. Secondly, hunters tend to have some bullshit faith powers that maybe prevent them to be embraced, or maybe not all hunters, I don't know.

I know that there's a Pyramid article that talks about giving your GURPSvamps crazy kung-fu action.

The strength of GURPS has always been its modularity, closely followed by relative balance. Combat can be fast and simple or complex and tactical. You have rules for mecha, time travel, and several versions of magic.

>What if the Salubri never fell? We ask this question in the Apocrypha of V20 Dark Ages. We demonstrate a scenario where this is indeed the case with Mangaluru. I explore a similar theme with a sidebar in V20 Dark Ages Tome of Secrets, regarding the Tzimisce. What if the Tzimisce Koldün put ancestral rivalries and blood-borne jealousies aside and banded together against the nascent Tremere? Would we see a different Vienna come the Final Nights? Would we see a different Sabbat and Camarilla?

What part of the Tome of Secrets is this? Anyone got the pages for it?

>What part of the Tome of Secrets is this? Anyone got the pages for it?

Eh, from what I can tell, it's nothing major.

It seems to be referring to the sidebar on page 46.

>THE FRUITION OF KOLDUNISM

>The kraina spawn territorial grudges and violent rivalries strong enough to hamstring any attempt by Rustovich to bring the Voivodate’s sorcerers to common cause against the Fiefdoms of the Black Cross, but it’s a noble aim. It still stands a chance of acting as a secret weapon capable of tipping the War of Princes in favor of the Tzimisce.

>In your game, if the Seekers’ intent comes to fruition, it will greatly empower the Tzimisce. Playing as Cainites within the Many-Headed Seekers, or learning from them in exchange for alliance in the constant melees with Usurpers and Patricians, is a distinct angle from which to run your chronicle, especially if such actions were to seriously harm the burgeoning Tremere.
>>
>>52592575

What a load of shit. He didn't explore shit.
>>
>>52592605
>What a load of shit. He didn't explore shit.

Yeah, it's pretty fucking vague.

The Salubri "What if" scenario in the main Dark Ages book was short as well, but that one was fuckin' sweet.

It wasn't just a "OH WELL, WHO KNOWS, CHOO_CHOO, ALL ABOARD THE TRAIN OF NEVER-GETTING-A-STRAIGHT-ANSWER!"...

Instead, they sat us down and said "Alright, shut up, here's what the Salubri not dying out would lead to..."

And as it turned out, it would lead to a more reserved Sabbat that ACTUALLY managed to get its shit together and form a structured Cainite army that never performed Mass-Embraces.

Now that's the sort of crap I want more of. Not just some wishy-washy "it would probably be different, yeah", but actual *details*.

>>52592756

It's in the main V20 Dark Ages book, page 446.

>"If the Watchers could be convinced to lend their talents to the clan’s difficulties, bringing the two fractured bloodlines together into a clan once more, they have a chance."

>"Blood would still be shed in sacrifice, but the tragedy’s tone will be one of defiance, not acquiescence."

>"A reunified Clan Salubri will even be able to survive Acre’s fall in 1291."

>"The worst ravages of the Inquisition never come to pass."

>"The Anarch Revolt still occurs, but the end of neonate frustration comes not at the behest of the Tal’Mahe’Ra, but the whispers of the Healers."

>"With the Usurpers hiding under Hardestadt’s cloak, the Salubri swear they will have nothing to do with the idea of Camarilla, joining their noble brethren to form the Sabbat."

>"Clan Malkavian, seeing Hardestadt’s dream left behind, flocks to the inverted ankh’s banner."

>"The Sword of Caine still craves war against the Antediluvians, preparing for Gehenna while gathering Noddist lore."

>"By the turn of the millennium, the Camarilla is relegated to a few European cities and the American South."

>"Across the globe, the three free clans await the Red Star, licking their fangs."
>>
>>52592946

This version of Sabbat would enforce their own kind of Masquerade, no? Because I doubt they'd be able to make it so far into the timeline if they started kicking up the fuss on a global stage.
>>
>>52592970
>This version of Sabbat would enforce their own kind of Masquerade, no?

Correct, but it's a far more calmer Sabbat.

>"Yet the Salubri still focus on humanity, on keeping ties with kine and maintaining Road and Path. Ultimately, this focus leads to a far calmer, more philosophical Sabbat."

Basically, when the Ancients awaken in this new timeline, they don't wake up in a world where people are either A: completely un-prepared to fight them or B: not even aware of their existence.

Instead, they wake up to fully-fledged vampiric armies that have spent whole centuries preparing for the fight.
>>
>>52593046

That would be fun as fuck. Nosferatu would have to side with the Salubri. I mean, they got the Nictuku right on their asses and the Camarilla sure as fuck didn't do anything in the original timeline to hamper them, doubt they'd do shit here when they're so seriously underpowered.

Honestly, other than Ventrue, Toreador and Tremere, I can't understand why anyone would be with the Camarilla. Maybe the Brujah would avoid Sabbat due to their fuckup with Carthage and allowing the Baali to run rampant.

Oh, it's almost a certainty we are getting Bloodlines 2 eventually, whether it's good or not is to be seen.

What confuses me is why they thought Werewolf was a good choice to be the first major out-of-the-gate project for their new multimedia plan. I mean, sure they have their dedicated fanbase, but they are so different to the usual portrayals of werewolves that they risk a WTF reaction as much as anything. You could argue Skyrim is a better 'traditional' werewolf game than Apocolypse.

A shitty mobile only game or two, or a few weak roleplaying suplements, are one thing... but the Werewolf game is going to gain the attention of the Bloodlines fanbase, Witcher fanbase, and Elder Scrolls fanbase, and unless it's fucking amazing it could damage the brand which will only just be finding it's feet again.

They should have started with Bloodlines 2. It would have been far safer.

Fuck knows, maybe get Obsidian? Try and rebuild the old team on a one-game basis?

There is something about Bloodlines that makes it amazing and replayable that I don't believe for a second was intentional. It had that magic that made it a cult hit. Maybe THE cult him of videogames, with the old reinstall meme.

The chances of them getting that again are exceedingly unlikely. It is coming though, everyone knows it, I mean fuck - the relaunched Vampire is likely to treat ir's 'canon' as more sacrosanct than the old splats, given it got first product-line listing and a colored icon, completely seperate from the tabletop line. When normies think of WoD, they think of Jack, Beckett, Nines, Jeanette, Strauss, Damsel ect.

The publisher they're partnered with (Focus Home Interactive) are publishing Vampyr this year, a *very* similar urban roleplaying game to what people want out of another VtMB.

In fact they might literally want to grab Vampyr's developer for it (Dontnod Entertainment), if things really work out.

Then again, the current dev Cyanide have 2 chances to show what they can do with Werewolf and the new Cthulhu game on their list for 2017. Neither have even shown gameplay yet. Gameplay I've looked up of their Styx games seems to show that they can do 3D stealth games at least.

Honestly I think they saw the developer commentated walkthrough of the Vampyr demo and picked up the phone, couldn't get the devs to either jump what they currently have over to their licensed material OR to do a game for them too (they're fucking busy obviously), but Focus Home were able to sell them on another developer under their publishing umbrella that might have the ability to do what they want.

Best retcon of Camarilla and Sabbat:

>Camarilla
- Ventrue (Obviously)
- Lasombra (to be the muscle of the sect and proper foils to the Ventrue)
- Toreador (the more liberal element to the sect)
- Nosferatu (the eyes and ears and in general the clan is pretty humane)
- Cappadocians (The historic allies of the Ventrue and the mystical backbone of the sect.

>Sabbat
You keep the whole ethos of toppling the elders and revelling in being vampires but you add an intellectual element with various different leaders experimenting with new systems of control.

- Brujah (The passion and muscle of the sect, they make way better instigators of the Anarch Revolt than the Lasombra or Tzimisce)
- Malkavians (they're the equivilent to the Nosferatu, except where the Nos are spies, the Malks are Seers.
- Tremere (The cunning and mystical element of the sect and a huge part of why the Sabbat formed, one of their members ate a fucking antedeluvian and is still around.)

>Independents
- Assamites (Get rid of the middle eastern theme and rework them as impartial judges, maybe make them a branch of the Camarilla that works similar to the Morag Tong; a legalized and regulated method of assassination to avoid wars that will drag the mortal population into conflicts)
- Gangrel (Same as they ever were)
- Followers of Set (Same as they ever were)
- Tzimisce (Internally divided between the Lordly Koldun who hold to the ways of the old gods and the Alien-minded metamorphasists)
Ravnos (remove them and just make the Gangrel fill it's space, throw chimeristry in with a type of blood sorcery.)

And if you really need to have the Giovanni in your game, just make them the equivilent to the Antritribu of the Cappadocians who function as the moneybags of the Sabbat.

Bloodlines was absolutely horrible at gameplay and especially level design and combat, remember. Its strengths were character customization, roleplaying dialogue and atmosphere.

Anyway while it's still plenty possible to have disappointment lined-up, I'm gonna be optimistic for Vampyr. What they've shown was only weak at combat, and I don't actually give a shit about that. What they've described in terms of roleplaying paths, and what they've shown with simple vampire powers in NPC interactions like controlling them to go places, getting invitations to come indoors, is *better* than what Bloodlines accomplished with its own. If they can live up to half of their sweet promises (some of which are literally just extending what they've already shown into a larger game world) it will be a game worth playing and a portfolio item worth hiring them over for a VtM game.

Implying a Thrysus wouldn't use magic to manipulate pleasure centers so every waking moment and action feels like a combination of the best orgasm/drug high/backscratch/meal/any other carnal pleasure.

A Thyrsus douche could cause spontaneous orgasms to people they don't like.

It would be a very effective way to interrogate somebody.

"Tell me what I want to know and I'll leave you to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. Or the magic stops right now and you'll have to settle for whatever you can find on /d/."

I'm interested in WoD but my approaches have only been to VtM. Should I try the mobile game too?

>>
>>52597591
The situations that go on are absolutely insane and ridiculous. From things like the crazy murderous SJW Tranny who kills Uber drivers who aren't far enough left for her tastes (it's not JUST a tranny vampire), to quality writing like 'a dismember ass lying in its own smear' or the vegan vampire who only drinks blood from vegans, to the otherwise shit writing of these newly-Embraced morons. The situations are also often unwinnable when you get to certain ones and have no way to backtrack other than starting over.
>>
>>52596897
That's the highest quality version I've been able to find. It never got a proper dvd release near as I can tell
>>
>>52597623
>the vegan vampire who only drinks blood from vegans
To be fair, this is an entirely reasonable Masquerade Ventrue concept; I mean, their iconic character can only feed from rape victims.
>>
>>52597484
If you don't know anything about Mage the show might be a bit confusing. But the mobile game for Mage was a fun use of a few hours, I'd say the same of the TV show.
>>
>>52597640
The text doesn't make it out to be a Ventrue clan weakness thing, it makes it out to be simply 'the vampire was a vegan as a mortal'. The situation is written in such a way as if there is no sect-based oversight, with some mentions in one place about an elder gathering, but... overall, it's mediocre. I have heard better responses to the Mage one, despite being set against the backdrop of a Syrian refugee camp.
>>
>>52597223
Hunters or giests since they're the only two I can think of who don't inherently drag you into weird fucked up supernatural shit just by being around.
>>
>>52594223
All they have to do is find the people who did What We Do in the Shadows. It's VtM near-exactly, but everything stupid about actually *works* in a comedy setting.

Only Lovers Left Alive is another not-VtM movie. My head canon is that the protagonists are Toreadors.

Life is Strange. The main character, Max, is basically an uninitiated Mage with a strong affinity for the Temporis/Temporal/Time sphere, no grasp of paradox, and she has a massive crush on her childhood galpal who dresses and acts like a Brujah wannabe.

Scarily, it was the hightlight of my recent gaming experiances. The feels left me with that deep melancholy that only certain games do for days afterwards.

I actually enjoyed it, far more than We Eat Ass and All Our Friends Are Transexual Thinbloods. It isn't too biased in its approach to social issues, in this case the refugee crisis, but allows the player to be.

For example, that screen you posted, but on the other side is a small dream sequence where the
female PC was (groped/)molested by a male refugee and wanred no one would believe her and call her racist. It also doesn't paint the 'old wiccan style' mages as being all fluffy and justified, either.

All that said, it might be because I played it after All Our Friends Are Pyscopaths, and We Feed Indiscriminately.

>>52577833
>What's your favorite WoD-splat, strictly fluff-wise?

Most of the old / classic World of Darkness stuff.
Vampire the Masquerade, Mage the Ascension and Werewolf the Apocalypse.

Never played Hunter, Changeling, Demon or Wraith, and don't even know much about their fluff (just general stuff).

There was a time when I've liked the new Werewolf lore better, tho.
