It's a Battletech thing. Elementals there are genetically engineered supersized humans that get stuck into 3m tall jet-pack suit like in the picture that shred through a Mech's armor. It's kinda like wasps cut pieces of flesh from a carcass, but the the carcass is a Mech and and the wasp is on steroids.
