Alright, so here's the story:
>Was helping a friend build his Pathfinder world
>Spot a few warhammer fantasy boxes, ask about it. He paints the models and uses them for display, mostly.
>He explains that he has 'a small' warhammer 40k army he never finished, asks me if I want it.
>Never played W4k before, but I've always been interested in starting, the price scared me off.
>We agree to a trade, and he drops a box full of these things on my lap.
Now I know that the rules set he used is drastically out of date, so I know that, if I wanted to play I'd at least need a new one of those.
Now I'm wondering what I should do with all of these; do you guys think I have enough units to play? Should I just sell it all and be happy with the profit? Should it all just sit on my shelf like my mageknight army?
I took several pictures, this first one is of (I think) Dark Eldar units, they're plastic. More pics to come.

More Dark Eldar, except these ones are metal.
>>52522610
Scorpion horse things, an Eldar on a throne (all metal), and busted spiky speedbikes (plastic)
>>52522635
From what I can tell, these two metal guys in the front are Space Wolves, whereas the things in the back are Slaanesh demons. Or crab people. All metal.
>>52522652
Here we have a bunch of plastic model sets for the Dark Eldar, 63 in total, plus some more plastic sets off to the left for what I think is a ship.
>>52522681
More uncut models, these ones are Tyranids(?)
>>52522709
These are also Tyranids(?) The models here are all damaged in some way (tails chipped off and such), but they look nice.
>>52522728
And finally we have a damaged ship(?) and materials needed to make bases. Also a model-cutting knife.
That's everything, what do you guys think I should do with all of this?
Seems you got a decent amount of models/supplies. if there is a GW store or you've a FLGS nearby that plays 40k you could always give it a shot if you want since it seems you have enough Dark eldar for a game. (get the updated rules from the general if you don't want to drop cash on books yet. also most games workshop managers will do a demo game with you to teach you the basics of the game.)
Fuck I wish I was you.
>>52523240
Ah, excellent. No GW store nearby but I'll see if either of my game stores have someone who can show me the ropes.
>>52523252
A step by step process:
>Gain 100 lbs
>Grow a beard
>Gain several 40Y0+ friends who collect all kinds of shit
>Offer to exchange services for collectable things.
>>52523848
i honestly wish i had more friends who were in to the hobby myself, don't get me wrong my local games workshop is full of pretty based people including the manager but i don't get to go often enough to really establish anything of the sort.
See of those minis might be worth selling on eBay anon.
Rare metal minis can go for quite a bit of dosh.
>>52524535
Yeah i'd check that to, certain ones could go for quite a pretty penny.
>>52523252
I know, why do people who have no interest always have stuff like this land on their lap?
MFW I'll never have a classic Dark Eldar army from the 1990's.
>>52522563
I love those bases. They're like a modern take on the old goblin green.
>>52523848
>>Gain 100 lbs
>>Grow a beard
Done and done.
>>52527200
Alright now go outside and get some friends.
>>52522563
>'a small' warhammer 40k army
now I know why it was in parentheses
