Then draft at your local game store. Most people should be decent human beings and will help you learn more of the nuances of the game. You'll also get good at card evaluation and deck building.

Then go from there. There are a a bunch of articles to help you out, you just need to look.

This is the Blue Moon deck I bought to the GP trial in my town.

I did terribly, but I think it was sideboard errors and there were definitely a couple of sequencing errors of mine that meant I lost.
Any recommendations are welcome.
I'm thinking -1 Island -1 Steam Vents +1 Mountain +1 Serum Visions. I need to upgrade to Scalding Tarns but I'm stupid, poor and lazy, so I guess I should get them while they are cheap.

The Duel Decks are pretty good casual fun, and if you like that you should continue. Consider getting a Commander precon, because every damn person plays commander and many of them are pretty good to improve slowly.

If you want to jump straight into competitive, then draft. It is a bit deep end so will rapidly make you a better player, it also means that you play a fair bit of most sets so you have experience of what cards mean or do in different environments. It will build your card collection, or occasionally give you cards that are worth real money which you can trade for store credit or cards which you want.

If you just want to be a casual fuck just buy a shitload of unsorted commons on ebay or fatpacks or whatever.

People seem to really misunderstand counterspells. The sole point of playing counterspell is literally to get at least 1-to-1 trade for lower cmc than what opponent is investing. So when you say 4cmc or less, you are already nulllifying the whole point playing it and therefore mana leak would be better. Other advantage of counter is that it can neglect "enter the battlefield" type effects that removals can't deal with. Of course removal is more versatile on when to play them as you don't have to keep mana open.

I run 3 push when I go outside my meta. My meta has a lot of Eldrazi and some Grixis, and when it's just a dead card against smashers and drowners and tasigurs, it just doesn't feel good. Read guides to learn the rules, then go to Xmage, find a winning tournament Decklist and use it, try changing the Decklist until you find one that you enjoy the most. Then build that deck in paper. People tend to recommend EDH and Standard as first formats but to be honest, I found Modern much more appealing when I started to play Magic 15 months ago.

Life has a mechanic has been poorly implemented and managed since day one.
Part of this is the way permanents and spells interact with it.

Permanents play like war games, or even something as simple as chess arguably. There are pieces that will move and allow a win if moved properly. In this case, movement is attacking vs. blocking.
Spells function more like poker cards. One player reveals three pair jacks, with the unsaid question being what the other players can respond with. Another player reveals a flush.
This is similar to one player casting removal, and another casting protection in response.
Permanents put the pieces in the open, spells stay hidden until revealed.

The problem is that WotC has decided that games must be won primarily with creatures. Revealing a flush and winning is considered bad form, judging by the lack of winning combos.
Building on a creature-focused wincon, it's a small surprise that Green will be king, along with Black as it provides the best creature-killing.
Everyone else just gets fucked because WotC has no idea how to let them win "fairly," in large part because poker-style "reveal certain cards and win" isn't allowed. Red only just gets by with Burn because those are spells that can directly deal damage. Other colors aren't allowed to deal damage with spells, so they're even worse off. If they want to win, they need creatures, and Green has the best.

Essentially, the problem is that WotC made five colors, two card master-types, and only one resource which must be depleted to win.
Unsurprisingly, certain master-types are better at depleting life totals. Certain colors most embody the philosophy behind that master-type and we end up with a binary color wheel, with maybe a splash for flavor.

Three people make 3 decks.

Decks cannot have any of the same cards. So you can't have 2 decks have polluted delta. Once one card is used in a deck, it can't be used elsewhere.

So mostly people play 2 decks with 3 colors, and the last deck is usually just Tron or Affinity.

Any Eggbros ITT?

The mana rocks are interesting, usually just run more eggs in that slot but I'm wondering if the ramp is worth it. Seems like a sweet play to drop a rock and a chromatic. The 4 chalices are to fill out the 0 slot for Trawler, but I feel like there's already more than enough in that slot between Opal, Hangarback and EE, so I'm not completely sold on this particular configuration.

The mainboard EE on the other hand really fires up the neurons. Screw having em in the board, I feel like this card does everything you'd want

It's fine for casual games but it probably won't cut it competitively. If you have some friends who are also new to the game encourage them to get some similar decks and duke it out with one another, it's a lot of fun.

This thread is specifically for the Modern format, which basically allows cards printed in Standard sets from 8th edition onwards. If you're looking to get into a format instead of just playing casual, I'd recommend Pauper (a format that only allows commons) - most tier 1 competitive decks can be built for as cheap as $50.

Modern is a pretty solid format as well, but most competitive decks sit roughly around the $600 mark.

Whatever you do though, don't fall into the Standard trap - they'll try to lure you in by saying it's the most popular format and that most decks only cost about $200, but they won't tell you that you have to buy a new deck every 6 months or so, making it ultimately the most expensive format to play over a long period of time. Also their meta is garbage, there are only like 2 good decks right now.

I'd say you should only start going to those sites when you are ready to get really competitive. I jumped straight into the competitive scene and my entire magic career has been nothing but salt and changing decks because I only want to win.

Ornithopter is a useful piece in certain decks.
Tezzeret's Touch is fine.

Everything else is trash, but some isn't too terrible, and still decently playable for you.
Dhund Operative, Tezzeret's Simulacrum, Reverse Engineer, and Implement of Examination are all okay.
Treasure Keeper, Quicksmith Spy, Augmenting Automaton, and Wind-Kin Raiders can all work.
The rest is pure trash. Trade them away if at all possible, trying to get playsets of all the cards I listed above.
Bastion Inventor and some of the big cards might be okay, because you're playing at a level without good removal, that's slow enough for you to get the mana needed to cast Ironclad Revolutionary.

But really, there are better ways into magic.
What you have is passable, play with friends and learn the basic rules, then go to FNM and draft. There's dozens of how-to guides on drafting, the idea here being to supplement what you got from this and build something decent.
If you're going to buy cards, toss "affinity for islands" or "affinity for artifacts" into gatherer. Myr Enforcer, Frogmite, and Spire Golem are all good, cheap cards you can use, especially if you complete that Ornithopter playset and add Memnites to it.
Bear in mind that none of those cards I just suggested you buy are Standard-legal, but you really don't want to be playing outside of draft and kitchen table casual play, so whatever. Format legality doesn't matter to you.

Can someone give me some insight on necroplasm? It's ability would kill me once he gets to the mana cost of my creatures too, but there are cards that can remove counters from it.

But should I use him is what I want to know. I can avoid him killing himself by ramping it's counters, but if his counters go far high, then nothing is going to be destroyed. This is also assuming I have a creature that's still alive or on the field that can remove counters.

TL;DR should I use necroplasm in commander format? I have asked this in the commander thread but got 1 reply that wasn't really helpful.

I can give you a run-down from a kitchen table multiplayer perspective, using Standard through lite-Legacy 60 card decks:
What it strikes me as is a fairly weak sweeper. With the same mana you could cast Drown in Sorrows, which is essentially a Necroplasm that stuck around for a turn, comes with Scry 1, and doesn't die to removal.
The benefit is that any method of increasing his counters increases the sweep. We'd need at least four counters on him to equal a Languish, so we actually want to beat that number to make it worthwhile.
I don't know what EDH has available for combos to do this. I don't know that there's much in Modern either. Best I can do is is Anafenza and Melira, as you see in https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-abzan-company-32798#paper

Even then, we've invested a number of cards into making a big, repeatable sweeper, that falls apart against creature removal.
I don't know that this works.
Is EDH a format where Damnation isn't great, or is there some other complication I'm not aware of?

Are there any decently efficient midrange threats in R/B that are somewhat cheap? Stuff like Pia and Kiran Nalaar is what I'm looking for.

Monored burn is still very capable of taking on T1 and T2 decks. Just because there's a better version doesn't automatically mean the lesser version is automatically garbage.

I figured out how to fix modern:

Name a card that isn't a basic land. Exile all cards with that name. Then search target player's graveyard, hand, and library for any number of cards with the chosen name and exile them. Then that player shuffles his or her library.
